2008-05-15 15:10:53
Deciding Who To Fly To Chiang Mai During a recent trip to Thailand I decided to break away from Bangkok and spend a few days in Chiang Mai . While my first instinct was to book Thai Airways (TG), a Thai friend suggested that I try the low cost carrier Nok Air (DD). Nok Air uses the old airport, Don Mueang...

Labor Union Problems at American Airlines
2008-05-19 12:34:05
The USA Today reports that American Airlines ' mechanics and bag handlers Union rejected American Airlines latest contract proposal. Having one union disagreeing with management is hard enough. But American is also in the midsts of negotiations with the pilot union. And the flight attendant union begins negotiations in June. Yikes! With American Airlines' huge loss this last quarter and fuel...

American Airlines will charge $15 for checking your FIRST bag
2008-05-21 09:39:02
And the fees keep coming. Now American Airlines will charge you $15 to check your FIRST bag. Elites are exempt. So are international itineraries. But otherwise expect to pay up for checking a bag. I expect them to increase enforcement of carry-on size restrictions. I also expect United and others to join the race to the bottom as soon as...

TSA to allow laptops through x-ray in some new bags
2008-05-22 12:53:49
Seth at TravelTechTalk reports that TSA-friendly laptop cases are coming. The idea is to create a laptop bag that you don't have to remove your laptop from when putting the bag through the x-ray machine. In theory this is good because it takes time to remove your computer from the bag and spending less time near the TSA is a...

Pictures of the Air France Lounge in Houston (IAH)
2008-05-24 03:17:02
As promised, here are pictures of the Air France Lounge in Houston (IAH). You can see why I was shocked that the old KLM lounge was still being used in January when this lounge was empty before my KLM PrivatAir flight. Gary at View from the Wing asks what is the worst airline lounge in the world? He offers the Alitalia Boticalli Lounge in Milan as a possible contender. I agree that is an awful lounge. KLM Lounge in Houston (IAH) Should Be Closed
2008-05-23 15:47:24
Some airline lounges are amazing. Others are horrid. Like the KLM lounge in Houston that I visited in January. It is small and old. It should be closed. Use the nice Air France lounge that is less than a minute away. Between the SkyTeam lounge sharing rules and the fact that both KLM and Air France are wholly owned subsidiaries...
