maximo park's earthly pleasures
2008-05-23 21:11:42
i have a confession to make: i have an addiction. i can't get Maximo Park track 'Books From Boxes' out of my head. it's no wonder it hit #1 on the UK indie chart - it's a damn catchy, if slightly depressing, tune. it's also a real gem on an otherwise not particularly exciting album. Maximo Park, as you may have guessed if you've already heard them, are from Newcastle and it shows (or... hears?) t

justice for all
2008-05-26 12:33:05
Justice is by far the most successful group on the Ed Banger Records catalogue. with catchy tracks like 'D.A.N.C.E', 'We Are Your Friends' and 'Tthhee Ppaarrttyy' (featuring labelmate Uffie), the duo has gone from humble beginnings to being nominated for 3 Grammy awards and in the process has created some seriously awesome masterpieces and remixes. click HERE to listen to the kick-ass 'D.A.N.C.E'

brighton beats
2008-05-26 06:55:24
surprising considering their edgy New York/Tokyo sound and look, Fujiya & Miyagi were formed in Brighton at the start of the new millennium. memorable first single 'Collarbone' brings a new brand of geeky edginess to the table with it's thumping bassline and bass guitar whilst the relatively bland 'Ankle Injury' manages to redeem itself by adding a touch of novelty to a genre already very much

hey rich girl!
2008-05-26 06:52:08
viewers of hit TV show Gossip Girl will already be very familiar with Brooklyn-based The Virgins, having appeared in numerous episodes to promote their music. with their catchy tunes and ironic musings on the idle rich, the band is bound to conquer the american indie music scene sooner rather than later. click HERE to check out hipster anthem 'Rich Girl'.'s rock-a-bility rating: 4 1/2 out of 5soun

i feel like a hero, and you are my heroine
2008-05-26 06:48:23
Boys Like Girls reached the number one spot on Purevolume's top unsigned bands list only months after their formation in late 2005 - a feat which kinda gives you an idea of their huge popularity across the alternative rock genre. based in Andover, Massachusetts, the guys are gonna be opening for Avril Lavigne's (ugh) world tour all of this year. don't let that put you off though: listen to the exc

power to the frogs! being part french myself and a big fan of Ed Banger, it's no surprise really that i'm feeling DJ Mehdi (not literally of course). discovered by pro DJ and the founder of Ed Banger Records himself all the way back in 1997, Mehdi has consistently released some top quality tracks. local media has even gone as far as to label him as the "french Pharrell". big shoes to fill but he'

sweet melodies from georgia band
2008-05-30 06:16:55
Cartel is a band that will definitely appeal to fans of pleasant melodies, saccharine hooks and easy-to-remember lyrics. from the catchy 'Wasted' to the more melancholy 'Save Us', the band's appealing music manages to stay in the minds of listeners without franchising the Jonas Brothers' irritating tween territory. to listen to and/or download the band's most memorable track The Fortunate click HE

get kooky with the kooks
2008-05-30 06:07:01
The Kooks are another quintessentially British band. formed in Brighton 4 years ago at the beginning of 2004, their debut album Inside In/Inside Out was a phenomenal success: debuting within the top 2 on the UK album chart and doing consistently well around the world. now they're back with sophomore album Konk and the first single 'Always Where I Need To Be' is seriously tearing up the airwaves. y

they're (not) from barcelona
2008-05-31 09:07:23
I'm From Barcelona isn't. they're actually from Jonkoping in Sweden but the name is a tribute to the hilarious Manuel in BBC's Fawlty Towers whom, you guessed it, was from Barcelona. on top of that, the band has 29 members. yep, that's right - 29. I'm From Barcelona isn't just your average band and that's what makes them so good. hear their 'tribute' to Britney HERE (with tongue-in-cheek lyrics li

melodic math rock
2008-05-31 07:27:25
Foals was formed in Oxford, UK only 3 years ago but has already made it onto NME's cool list of 2007. impressive right? with a sound that combines indie rock, math rock and dance, the guys have amassed a notable following on either side of the Atlantic and with reason - their tracks are melodic , catchy and at times, curiously dreamy. my personal favourite is 'Electric Bloom', which you can hear/d

ah, Anberlin. need i say any more? this Florida-based, supposedly Christian band, is like a breath of fresh air from the norms of alternative rock. fo realz. ok, cliches aside, the group have come up with some seriously catchy beats and sweet, upbeat tunes. what's not to love about a band that sings about everything from Christa Paffgen (Warhol superstar extraordinaire) to a situation that pretty

the Foreign Islands are one of Brooklyn's best exports and trust me, that means a lot: the area is at the center of a musical revolution right now. i'm telling ya, the guys are definitely destined for greatness with their unique sound that can best be described as a mix of Smallwhitelight and Dead Disco. HERE is their best track yet - 'That's How This Goes Down'. you gotta love these guys!'s rock-

ryan smith has good intentions
2008-06-05 16:44:33
apparently Ohio is another unexpected destination for exciting new musicians. one of them is Ryan Smith: a greatly talented, Columbus-based artist. the subject matters of his songs may be dark but he delivers their lyrics in such an expressive and poignant way that you can't help but feel elated and nostalgic when you hear them. one of my favorites is 'This Is Not A Tragedy'. you can download it
