david brent-inspired band name?
2008-05-17 14:02:58
that's right, the name Does It Offend You, Yeah? is a quote from the cringe-worthy character David Brent on the original UK version of The Office. don't let the title put you off though - this band, all the way from Reading, England, is actually very decent and not at all offensive. often compared to electro-dance acts Daft Punk and Justice, they have done some stellar remixes for Muse, The Racon

wake up to the morning light
2008-05-17 13:30:58
The Morning Light are a veritable Purevolume phenomenon, consistently ranking highly on the site's charts. formed in Pittsburgh, the fivesome are quickly gaining prominence across the US indie scene with their Jack's Mannequin-esque croonings. having recently played nearly 150 concerts across the country and featured heavily on MySpace, it's only a matter of time before the band strikes gold. in f

i don't know what it is about Scandinavian countries but clearly creativity runs in the blood of their people. up-and-coming duo The Raveonettes, featured in last month's Blender, have become an integral part of Denmark's new musical revolution. the twosome's third EP 'Lust, Lust, Lust' includes some of their best and most avant-garde work to date, including the evocative 'Dead Sound' and the nos

German electronic artist Apparat is a one-of-a-kind with his clever combination of electronic beats and classical string instrument samples. his experimental music is easy to listen to and it's haunting vocals linger in the mind long after they are listened to. find and download the almost eery and lingering track Arcadia HERE then check out his MySpace @ like: Pacific UV, Ellen Allien, Telefon T

how would i describe Canadian band Hot Hot Heat? it's difficult to label them with just one definition. in times of need i turn to the awesome Wikipedia, which states that their primary genres are indie rock/new wave/post-punk revival. on the other hand, the band itself describes their music as having more of an alternative sound. not helping me! either way, whatever they're doing i guess they're

mc lars is more punk than you
2008-05-19 16:34:23
Andrew Nielsen, better known as MC Lars, is the self-proclaimed originator of "post-punk laptop rap". aside from the fact that he has a bit of a white boy sound, his rap is strong and unique, sampling a wide variety of post-punk and alternative bands. it may be surprising to some when you listen to his tracks but the dude is actually incredibly smart, having studied English at Stanford and Oxford.

2008-05-19 14:30:18
with only one album under his belt (the modestly-titled 'I Created Disco'), Calvin Harris has already become somewhat of a phenomenon in the indie dance scene and on MySpace. unfortunately, music critics don't feel the same way: said album has received some pretty negative reviews from many of the major music publications. regardless, i think his music is great. hear the UK top 10 hit 'Acceptable

anyone who has ever watched The OC will probably already know of the greatness that is Rooney. based in LA, the band has a typically Californian, all-American sound with an added British retro twist. often compared to The Cars and Blur, they have made a big splash across the double-u double-u double-u with their unforgettable songs. click HERE to hear the PG 'When Did Your Heart Go Missing', whic

i swear i'm not obsessed with Sweden... it just so happens they have some really sick bands. ok fine, maybe i am a little obsessed. but only a little bit. Peter Bjorn and John are one of the country's best exports, aside from the aforementioned Ikea hot dogs and Swedish girls. formed in 1999, the guys have created some crazy good tunes which are always easy to hum or sing along to. hoxton heroes and indie cindys
2008-05-19 11:27:59
look out for these guys (and girl), they're gonna be HUGE - in the UK at least. Hadouken!, formed in Leeds, England, already have a massive underground following who love their 'grimey' beats and mocking lyrics harshly targetting wannabe MySpace-ers, scenesters and youth culture as a whole. looking at the band, though, i don't really see a difference between them and their targets... maybe that's

"we want to be indie but we're not cool enough"
2008-05-19 08:03:41
that's a direct quote from trendy British/Swedish threesome The Hoosiers when asked how they would describe their unique sound. influenced by bands like The Cure and The Flaming Lips, they have been very successful across the UK with the memorable singles 'Goodbye Mr. A' and 'Worried About Ray', which samples The Turtles' "Happy Together" extensively. click HERE to take a listen to 'Goodbye Mr. A

despite their tween-pleasing image and Panic-esque sound, Scenes and Sirens (started in 2006 by Mark Rosas and Brian Maddox) are actually a pretty decent duo. the band has become huge online, counting a massive fanbase that have helped them get to where they are today. i decided to give their radio-friendly hooks the benefit of doubt and now count myself amongst said fans simply because everyone

Kid Sister is pretty much as fresh as new-wave hip hop comes. born and bred in Chicago, the 28-year old MC pushes the typical cliches of traditional hip hop aside, choosing instead to focus on 80's throwbacks like beepers, the World Wrestling Federation and... nail salons? i know it sounds weird but traditional is definitely what Kid Sister isn't. what she is, though, is unique and the game she b

Abri is one of Dubai, UAE's best fresh musical talents with a raw and soulful jazz sound. as you can see, it's difficult to define them by labelling them under simply one genre - the band breaks all sorts of barriers. with a memorable sound that is on par with the some of the best the world has to offer, Abri is definitely one to look out for as they hit the planet by storm. look out for these gu

what's not to love about unique British outfit the Klaxons? they have mastered the art of seriously catchy tunes and explore some very unusual topics in a never-been-done-before way. it's no wonder they've already won a Mercury prize and a place inside the hearts of many (cheesy i know, but true) after only three years since their original conception. the unique Uffie, alter-ego of Miami-born Anna-Catherine Hartley and one of my personal favorites, has just released a new track to her MySpace by the name of 'Robot Oeuf' - literally translating as 'Robot Egg'. i can't make my mind up about the track yet - it marks such a dramatic departure from her traditional cute-yet-naughty style (so prominent in masterpieces 'Pop the Glock', 'Dismissed' and

that's right - i've decided to officially take the leap and jump onto the Lykke Li bandwagon and i won't be turning back any time soon. first introduced to the Swedish songstress a few months back by a (gasp! horror!) Danish friend of mine, i can't say she impressed me at all. now, though, it's a different story and i can't seem to get enough of her soulful tones. her album is produced by fellow S

those are lyrics from Pedro the Lion's controversial "American dream"-slamming 'Indian Summer' and something the band won't be tasting any time soon - choosing to stay far, far away from the major labels (thank god). however, this also means that they aren't receiving as much attention as a band of their excellent calibre should be. hear the song that sends shivers down the backs of upper-class h
