Metcheck cocks it all up 2008-07-15 06:58:05 Even the experts can get it wrong. Metcheck, one of the most popular weather forecasting websites managed to screw up their move to bigger servers and ended up putting their site down for at least a day, ruining their Google listing in the meantime (see image below).
When I checked their website over the weekend it looked like their domain had expired and some speedy young chap or chapette ha
Trust me - I'm an expert 2008-08-08 04:12:00 I'm not usually one to boast or blow my own trumpet, but I want to remind you of a post I wrote a few weeks back about the importance of linking out for your website SEO and why you should be doing it with your own website.
Why am I reminded you of it? Well, I can be justifiably smug (hence the photo of the smug llamas) since a couple of the major SEO bloggers have approach the same subject (a
Comparison of the top 10 SEO companies' backlinks 2008-07-29 06:44:48 I've been playing around with Yahoo Site Explorer for a while now and looking at the backlinks
that various sites have. It's a handy tool, but it does have its limitation (not least that it only allows you to view 1000 backlinks). But for getting a flavour of a site's backlinks then it does the job.
One of the things that annoyed me about it was that there was no way to aggregate the results, so Read more:SEO

Naturally most small business owners are nervous

Google Chrome Plug-ins 2008-09-05 06:36:39 I've been using GoogleChrome
now for a few days and I really like it.
I'm a bit behind the times with posting a review but I wanted to take a few days to get used to it and see how I found it. So this is more of a considered review rather than first impressions.
Having said that, I think that for me, the first impressions still stand. It's fast, nice to use and seems to be stable - I haven'
Google Chrome Browser Market Share 2008-09-05 06:05:36 As you probably know (in fact, it's almost impossible to avoid it) - Google
launched a new web browser on September 2nd called Google Chrome
.
The implications for Firefox are pretty immense since the early techie adopters form the main user base for Firefox. These same people are the people most likely to move to Chrome, at least in the short term.
It's early days, but judging from the webs Read more:Market

What search engine is the most important for my traffic? 2008-09-04 09:45:41
Whenever I speak about SEO, I generally always talk about Google rather than Yahoo, Live, Ask or whatever. I've been told that I should refer to search engines generically, and that's good advice, but I think I can be forgiven when you look at the market share that Google has.
In the UK, Google controls a massive 87% of the search market . In Australia, it's much the same story with 88%.

What's a keyword? 2008-08-27 03:55:48 You may have heard the term ‘keyword’ before – in fact, you may even get unsolicited emails from various SEO companies telling you about the keywords on your website! But do you know what a keyword really is and why it is critical to the effective search engine optimisation of your website?
Simply put, a keyword is a word, or a number of words that you type into a search engine in order to
How to change the title of my web page 2008-09-30 04:44:27 If you want to make the changes yourself then you will need access to the web server that your website is hosted on and the HTML code. If this doesn't make any sense then you'd be better going to your website design company. However, if you have access to both of these, then read on.
Open up your HTML file for the page that you want to change. If you don't know any HTML then it'll look like
This blog is moving! 2008-09-29 10:39:10 I've finally lost patience with Subtext so have taken the opportunity to move to WordPress.
