First Parsh Church Cohasset Massachusetts 2007-03-04 08:37:00
Shades of light...
The First
Parish Church
on Cohasset Common in Cohasset, Massachusetts
. Some of you may have seen the 1987 movie "The Witches of Eastwick" The First Parish Church was the church that was used in the movie. Much of the movie was filmed here in Cohasset.
A little Eastwick movie trivia...
At the beginning of the movie there is an aerial view from a helicopter flying over Cohasset Common and the Cohasset coastline. This was done because Cohasset was so picture perfect that the producers of the movie wanted the audience to see that this was a real New England town, and that it wasn't just a movie set with structures built for the scenes in the movie.
Photographed using my tripod mounted Nikon 8800 digital camera.

Seen here in this photo are plantings of beach grass working in conjunction with snow fencing to help control the effects of erosion here at Duxbury Beach. Trying to preserve the beach for all to enjoy, along with trying to control the environmental effects that nature can have on it, is a 24/7 job. Reminiscing 2007-03-06 20:10:00 It's been a long time...
The years pass by way too quickly...
I've have been a big fan of Led Zeppelin for many years. I was lucky to see them in concert a number of times, going all the way back to their first tour of the states. They played the Boston Tea Party in January of 1969, and you just knew by their music and stage presence that something big was about to happen to rock music. Back in 1995 and 96 my oldest son Jonathan and myself went to see Jimmy page and Robert Plant on three different occasions. Jon was 17 then. This is a ticket stub from one of the shows we saw at the Fleet Center in Boston in 1995. Photographed with window and room light with my tripod Nikon 8800 at macro setting.
I realized what Led Zeppelin was about around the end of our first U.S. tour. We started off not even on the bill in Denver, and by the time we got to New York we were second to Iron Butterfly, and they didn't want to go on! ~ Robert Plant on Led Zeppelins first US tour beginning Decemb

Bluebird house in the field...
This photo was taken in the field right near the entrance to the South Shore Science Center at the Jacobs
farm on Jacobs Lane in Norwell
, Massachusetts
. This has to be one of my favorite photos from the Norwell area. It was such a peaceful June morning. photographed with my tripod mounted Nikon 8800 digital camera at full telephoto of 350mm.
I like the Nikon Coolpix 8800 digital camera. It's a nice small 8MP camera with many neat features... and it shoots tiff format as well as raw format, and has great optics, and is very user friendly. Some of my favorite photos were taken with my Nikon 8800. I understand about the only place you can purchase an 8800 now is on eBay. I checked four online stores, and nobody sells it anymore. It looks as though Nikon has taken the 8800 out of production for good... I can't figure why camera manufactures do the things they do... And often the model that replaces the model they removed isn't as good... I don't under

Antietam National Battlefield Sharpsburg, Maryland 2007-03-09 20:58:00
Antietam National
Civil War Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland
, although peaceful, invoked eeriness as I photographed this scene looking out from Smoketown Road. Some of the fiercest battles on September 17, 1862 were fought in this area known as the Cornfield. That one day of fighting left more than 23,000 men killed, wounded, or missing-the highest amount of any single day during the entire Civil War. I photographed this in June of 2005, with my tripod mounted Nikon Coolpix 8800 digital camera.

Cohasset Town Cemetery Cohasset Massachusetts 2007-03-09 17:22:00
I felt much sadness here...
This twenty foot tall Celtic cross is located high on a hill at the Cohasset Town Cemetery
in Cohasset, Massachusetts
... Below the cross are buried the remains of forty-five unidentified Irish emigrants who perished in the St. John "Famine Ship" shipwreck on October 7, 1849 off of the coast of Cohasset. Most of the victims were from the Irish counties of Clare and Galway who were heading to the United States to escape the potato famine that plagued Ireland. The mass grave went unmarked until 1914 when the Ancient Order of Hibernians placed this Celtic marker at the gravesite. Photographed with my tripod mounted Nikon 8800 digital camera.

Eastwick Hardware Store 2007-03-10 18:23:00
Actually this is the inside of the Cohasset HardwareStore
in Cohasset, Massachusetts. The hardware store was used in the 1987 movie "The Witches of Eastwick" starring Jack Nicholson, Cher and Michelle Phiffer. The sign still hangs in the store, and the stores owner Bud was good enough to let me take a photo of it this morning. I also chatted here with Bud and some of the local Cohasset guys who worked on the trucks and the Mercedes that Jack drove in the movie. For one of the scenes... The movie company had bought about $2,000 worth of goods from Cohasset Hardware, then loaded it on the back of a pick-up truck and in one movie scene destroyed it all. Bud also showed me his photo album of great candid photos he took of Jack and Cher, and all the goings on between scenes in the movie. It was an enjoyable Saturday morning, and I thank everyone there for giving me the time to talk with them.

Sunset in the living room 2007-03-13 19:55:00
I like daylight savings time...
Glancing over to the right while sitting on the couch watching the news I was noticing how the setting suns glow passed through a window and across the room... and it was after 6PM. As the sun set, its glow on the chair and desk lasted about 2 minutes then vanished. I had the Nikon D200 with the 60mm Nikkor Micro mounted on the tripod which was right next to me... so I snapped this photo.website
