Household Chores
2007-03-04 21:26:00
Besides hiring a maid, who we would probably not be able to pay on a timely basis, what are some tips and techniques you can share with others regarding keeping control over the house. Feel free to discuss your concerns as well. Others like you may have found the solution that will work for you.My biggest problems are laundry (my two girls and I have tons of clothes, and very few of them are clean at any one time), the kitchen, and the office. Clutter, clutter everywhere. I have bought all the books about organization, but can't seem to stick to a system. Anyone out there with a creative, workable idea???

Paying the Bills
2007-03-03 18:00:00
I make a good living. I have a steady job, albeit boring! And yet, I can't seem to get the bills paid on time, then they pile up, generate late charges, and suddenly, I am in a hole I can't get out of. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? Let's put our creative heads together to chat and discuss failures and successes, what works, and what doesn't in our ACE heads.

Welcome

This blog is a place for you and I to get together to discuss the benefits and struggles of living with ADD. I have come to the realization that ADD is not a 'disorder', but rather an ability. We have an amazing ability to imagine and create anything. The world NEEDS us, but they are frightened of us because they don't understand what goes on in our heads, because they think linearly whereas our thoughts are all-encompassing, all-seeing. Currently, we are forced to live in a world that has been created by people who insist on structure and timelines. Our brains do not work that way. We have creative, timeless, non-linear brains that if allowed to thrive could change the world! My goal is to help that happen, but in the meantime, how do we deal with the daily monotonies such as paying bills on time, getting the housework done, etc. etc.Over the next several months, I intend to raise enough money to fund a unique and profitable business that will help you and I. I'll keep you

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Abundant Creativity Endowment (ACE)?: How to Cure Attention Deficit Disorder

How to Cure Attention Deficit Disorder
2007-03-15 23:04:00
There are a lot of websites and books and articles dedicated to giving you advice on how to cope with ADD or even worse, CURE your ADD. Why would you want a cure for something that is the absolute essence of what makes you who you are. Granted, you may not be all that happy about yourself right now, but take some time to really think about all that is great about you.Do any of these qualities sound familiar? Creative, Inventive, Out-going, Able to see the big picture, Multi-tasking, Good in a crisis, Courageous, Entrepreneurial, Problem solver, Intuitive, Eager to learn, Hard worker, Imaginative, Idea generator, Multi-dimensional, Passionate, Resourceful, Spontaneous, Big Dreamer, Tolerant, Unconventional, Versatile. All of these qualities are a part of who you are if you have ADD. Why in the world would you want to change that about yourself? Why would you want to ‘cure’ your genius and your amazing creative abilities?Sure, there are challenges to this amazing condition (I refuse t

My Rants
2007-03-22 16:03:00
I have to say that I have several pet peeves most of which have to do with the way people drive. However, another pet peeve of mine is the way that some people make light of ACE and it's effects on daily living. It's not uncommon to hear someone who is having a chaotic day to say I am so ADD today. Sorry folks, much like paralysis or blindness, ACE is not a once in a while condition. It's an every day, every moment event, and your comments only prove how ignorant you are about it's impact on our lives and the those of our friends and family. When you say things like this, it diminishes us. It reduces our condition to a joke. Please, please, please educate yourselves on ACE. Very likely, someone very close to you has ACE and because of comments like yours, suffers in silence because they are ashamed they will be ridiculed. Thank you for listening to my rant of the moment.

I'm Back

I've been away from my blog for a while now dealing with some personal issues...yes, they are ADD related. What isn't? I wanted to let you all know that I am writing a book about ACE and the effects it has on our lives as adults.I am interested in gathering stories of what your life has been like pre- and post-diagnosis. Do you do anything differently or act any differently now that you know? Are you relieved or upset about your diagnosis? How has your family reacted? Have they been accepting or skeptical? This book is different than anything I've read on ACE in that it's written about our feelings and our struggles. It will offer hope and education and enlightenment on how we can peacefully co-exist with others in our society. It will offer ways of working together to uplift us all to our full potentials.

Let's Work Together

I find that one of the most irksome things about having ACE is that some people who do not have it belittle it and consider it as an excuse for laziness or incompetence. I realize that these people are not necessarily mean-spirited, but rather just ignorant of the facts. This is probably due in large part to the media frenzy surrounding the controversy of 'drugging our children'.What people fail to realize is that the media very rarely reports on the effects ACE has on the family, and on adults. I truly wish that more people would not simply repeat things they hear, but rather if they are going to make any comments, do the research and learn the truth.ACE is real, and it is a struggle. It is a lot of things, but it is not lazy. ACE's are probably some of the most motivated people on the planet. We WANT to do things right. We WANT to do things on time. We WANT peace and prosperity. But how do we make someone without ACE understand how our brains work? How do we make them understand t

The Guilt of ADD
2007-06-07 20:25:00
I was watching the news today, and saw some stories about the tragedies in Africa, the war in Iraq, and the devastation of cancer, and I realized something. I realized why adults with ACE are reluctant to stand up for themselves and ask for help. We feel guilty. I know personally, that it is difficult for me to see these types of things and want help for myself. I think that I am not as worthy of assistance as the people affected by disease, poverty and war. I have been inundated with media stories about ACE being an excuse to medicate our children, as an excuse for laziness, and as a 'pretend' disorder concocted by the pharmaceutical companies. I have been made to feel ashamed, and made to question the validity of my ACE.I recognize that ACE is not life threatening, at least in the sense that the condition itself won't kill me. I would like to know, however, how many people who have committed suicide had undiagnosed, or even diagnosed ACE. I know, however that ACE has affect

I Am Encouraged By This Research
2007-06-11 12:04:00
From http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/164/6/856 The American Journal of Psychiatry's article: Why Does the Worldwide Prevalence of Childhood Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Matter? by Terrie E. Moffitt, Ph.D. and Maria Melchior, Sc.D.Exerpt: The finding of Polanczyk and colleagues of a uniform prevalence rate worldwide attests that ADHD is probably not caused by the avarice of the American psychiatric profession or by permissive Western culture and that reducing our avarice and permissiveness will not make ADHD disappear. A uniform prevalence rate worldwide also suggests, disappointingly, that geographical variation will not provide fresh clues to the causation of ADHD. Because there is no causal biomarker with which to diagnose ADHD, the diagnosis remains syndrome-based. Thus, becoming an identified ADHD patient is partly a function of the gap between a child’s behavior and the expectations of the adults in his or her world about how children ought to beh

This Is What I'm Talking About
2007-06-11 11:47:00
I read this news article today. http://www.tv3.co.nz/News/NewsDisplay/tabid/209/articleID/28320/Default.aspx It talks about a Canadian researcher who has shown that children from broken marriages are twice as likely to be prescribed Ritalin than those in intact families. It continues to state that further research needs to be undertaken to find out why. I consider myself to be somewhat articulate, but I have to admit that my first response is...'Duh!'This is what I've been talking about. There is so much misunderstanding about ADD that even researchers don't have a clue. Has anyone bothered to think that the reason so many children from broken families are prescribed Ritalin is because they come from ADD families?Relationships are difficult enough without ADD thrown into the mix. Of course the divorce rate amongst this population will be much higher than couples who do not have ADD. The logical conclusion therefore, since ADD is genetic, is that one or more children of these coup

Abundant Creativity Effect and Ultrasensitivity
2007-07-01 14:17:00
I've had the great fortune of late to discuss what it 'feels' like to be an ACE with a variety of people from all walks of life. These people have opened up to me, and I to them because of our similarities in emotions, mental states and desires for understanding. All of us have a need to feel that someone 'gets us'; that someone truly understands what it's like to live in our skin. While no one person can truly live 'in' the life of another, commonalities can provide a certain degree of kinship or 'kindred-ship'.One of the most common elements running through the ACE's I've talked to is a feeling of ultra-sensitivity. We, as a group tend to be sensitive to a whole host of external stimuli. Whether it be a rude sales clerk, slight variations in temperature, or our new underwear.Emotional Sensitivity.ACE's have a tendency to take everything very personally. Any slight or criticism is taken to heart. In part, I believe, this is physiological, but in essence I believe t

Newest Research on Ritalin
2007-07-19 13:29:00
From New Study Suggests Pediatric Ritalin Use May Affect Developing Brain"The findings, specially highlighted in the Journal of Neuroscience suggest that doctors must be very careful in their diagnosis of ADHD before prescribing Ritalin. That's because the brain changes noted in the study might be helpful in battling the disorder but harmful if given to youngsters with healthy brain chemistry, Dr. Milner says."Clearly this is an important part of the process. There has to be a multi-step diagnosis process in place to identify children with ACE over those with other issues. We simply can't be medicating any child with a behavioral challenge because "most" of his/her ways can be categorized by ACE. I strongly encourage anyone going down this path to make sure that you or your child are being thoroughly evaluated before beginning any type of medication regimen. Only until YOU are comfortable with the diagnosis should you even consider this type of treatment. And further in the articl
