Salad plants

This year we started to eat salad from our garden in April. We have rockets, green fresh onions, mint, parsley, green fresh garlic and radish. We eat them almost everyday. There are spinach and lettuce as well, but they are not ready yet. .

Skimmia ( Japonica )

Native to warm temperate regions of Asia This lovely skimmia is one of the first plants we put in our garden. It’s in a large pot with some other little plants. This year it flowered at the end of March and finished at the end of April. It’s a hardy plant and keeps its leaves throughout the winter. .


Radish ( French Breakfast )

We put seeds in the mid April. They grew very quick and we ate the first crop 3 weeks later. Since then we eat very often and replant the seeds when we cut the crop. .

Iris yellow flag

Native to Europe, Asia, Africa, North AmericaWe grew it from seed, gathered from Blackleach Lake in Walkden. We put the seeds in pots in 2005 and in 2006 we put them in a wet area in the garden. First year they didn’t have flowers. On the 19th May 2007 they flowered first time. . .


Scabiosa (pink)

Native to Europe and AsiaWe received them as cuttings from our neighbour in autumn 2006. And they flowered in May with two different colours of pink. There are over 40 flowers. They are very beautiful plant and the bees love them. We will divide them again in the autumn. . .


Little Pond

After watching Springwatch 2007 on BBC we decided to make a little pond in our garden for insects.


Heuchera Coral Bells

Native to North AmericaWe have got 3 different Heuchera plants. This one has got both pink and white flowers. We planted it in 2006 and this year it flowered in the beginning of May. It’s unusual but it has two different colours of flowers. .

Wren Family

There is a wren family nesting in our garden. Today around 18:00 mother and 4 babies came just front of our kitchen door. We were standing and watching her feeding babies. They were so close to us and one nearly came in our kitchen. Mother was picking caterpillars and giving to their mouths. At the same time babies were packing at the soil but getting nowhere. They looked very exciting and happy. They were jumping in the bush from branch to branch and calling their mom all the time.
