The Battle Of: two new demo songs 2007-03-01 23:56:43 The Battle
Of, a NY Hardcore/Metal group, have uploaded two demo songs
to their MySpace profile. Although the demo unripe atmosphere is quite dominant both musically and (especially) vocally, I somehow feel I gotta listen to some more. I’ll be definitely checking them out in the near future.

Well, “deron”,
im jealous of slayer??? how?
You’re jealous of a band that has both recognition AND influence on various of others, while yours doesn’t. You’re jealous of a band that even their crappiest note on their crappiest song on their crappiest album is better than anything you have ever done. Musically speaking of course. Besides noticing your 14 y/o English I can’t really say I know you that well.
read the story get your facts straight.
Oh, I read the story. And oh, my facts are damn straight. Actually, my facts are straight and simple: you publish your opinion freely, I publish mine. You say what’s on your mind on your website, and I say mine - on mine. Fair deal, huh?

The green eyed monster is chicken shit: CKY vs. Slayer part 2 2007-02-26 14:33:00 Awww! pissed off blabbermouths scared CKY’s Deron Miller so much, he had to write them a response:
“I did not expect my SLAYER rant to be newsworthy enough for a Blabbermouth post. And I dont think it is at all. I did not submit this statement to Blabbermouth to be listed as a ‘publicity stunt’ (that accusation always makes me laugh, because I have no interest in publicity), or ‘jealousy’ (I wish I wrote [METALLICA’s] ‘Master of Puppets’, not [SLAYER’s] ‘God Hates Us All’). It’s this simple… a fan asked for my opinion on CKY’s website about SLAYER and I answered it in my opinion. Too fucking bad… that’s what I think. All the Blabbermouth morons get to spew their moronic statements, so why can’t I? The only difference is, people read mine. Otherwise there wouldn’t be hundreds of responses that all say the same thing, I’m sure (I could only get through two): ‘S Read more:eyed monster

The green eyed monster is loose: CKY vs. Slayer 2007-02-25 19:05:57 “Slayer
is Bullshit” according to CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller (who?). Uh, CCY. No, sorry, KKY. Or is it CKK? I, I just can’t seem to recall…
Behold his own words on the band’s official website, when asked about Tom Araya’s being a devoted Christian who still writes anti-Christian songs.
slayer is bullshit. somehow they became the “scariest & fastest” metal band that everyone is aware of. little does anyone know that slayer is far from being the fastest, heaviest, brutalist, and most talented extreme band. back in the day they were extreme, but now theyre just a parody of themselves. everyone always yells “SLAYER!!!” at concerts because they think thats the first band you need to know if you’re trying to be an extreme metalhead, as if slayer is underground and they know something no one else does. everyone knows slayer and has heard them. truth is, i always thought slayer sucked. i somehow ended up owning all Read more:eyed monster
Let Sleeping Giant lie 2007-02-25 18:09:57 Sleeping Giant is a Christian Hardcore/Metal combo with a hip hop edge to their sound. Think Explosions in the Sky meets Isis meets Biohazard, and you’ll get it. They now have two new songs up on their MySpace profile, taken from their upcoming debut album with Facedown Records. Their sound is tight and abundant, and the vocalist is particularly belligerent. In their little pool of musical genre, they definitely have a bright future ahead of them.
And why “Sleeping Giant“, you may ask?
We are called Sleeping Giant becuase christians in the world today are just that, in the world. And they need to wake up!!! They are sleeping giants of war in this world over-run by people who do not see the enourmity of their sin and don’t realize they live there lives day by day forsaking a just and amazing God who deserves everything.
Pfft, don’t look at me, I’m Jewish.

A few Mastodon snacks for the weekend 2007-03-03 09:42:25 * GameTap is a game community and they have chosen Mastodon
(nice work, WB) as their Artist of the Month, which means exclusive content from the band will be available throughout the month. Right now I can’t see anything too exclusive, but it’s only March 3rd on my calendar so I’ll be patient this time.
* The guys visited the MTV2 headquarters a couple of weeks ago, and revield the story behind the Blood Mountain, or, well, something like that. Get ready for this:
The narrative behind Blood Mountain:
“It’s about a gay sailor. Or maybe it’s about a geisha sailor. It’s about a treacherous journey through time and space.”
“Also, don’t eat the brown acid on Blood Mountain. It might mess your innards up. That’s it in a macadamia nutshell.”
The Mastodon video game:
“What? Where? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it. I thought people were $%@$!! with me.”

Pro Indie with Andrew Tweedy 2007-03-02 23:54:57
I actually enjoy it when a member of an aggressive group is going softy solo. I really do. I think it shows not only variety in musical tastes and influences (which is always blessed), but also another side that is always interesting to hear and know.
This is the exact case with Buried Inside’s guitarist, Andrew
Tweedy, who just released a new video for Time to Kill off his debut 2006 solo album, Glass Fingers. Equipped with a delicate folk/rock agenda and a beautifully feeble acoustic guitar, Tweedy seems to create a moving piece of fragile work; music that stands out for itself, but shines dramatically when putting it alongside his Metal and Hardcore work.
Help yourself with two songs up on Andrew Tweedy’s MySpace page, and enjoy some peaceful time with his new video.

And the prize for worst vocalist ever goes to… Celine Dion. And then, Ozzy 2007-03-04 22:35:00
It was only last year when the British Q magazine has labeled Ozzy’s “Under Cover” at #47 on the “50 worst albums of all time” list (right after Milli Vannili, and a step before Oasis).
2007 is even bigger for the Ozzman, when it comes to the Q - according to Blabbermouth, he was voted as one of the worst vocalists ever by the magazine readers, holding hands with Celine
Dion, Mariah Carey and “any Death metal singer”. Respect.
I’m left wondering what 2008 will have in store for Ozzy - I predict Herpes.

Fire in the Eyes of the City studio diaries 2007-03-05 23:45:38
Founded in 2004, Fire in the Eyes of the City are a very interesting and diverse Screamo/post Hardcore group from New Jersey. They released their first, s/t EP two years ago, and they’re now getting ready for the real deal - a new LP which will come out this year, hopefully. Starting today, they are updating their Myspace blog with happenings from the recording studio. Today is, actually, day 1, and apart from the predicted enthusiasm, the P.S part provides some food for the mind.

Raising Ma Barker from the grave: Maylene and the Sons of Disaster 2007-03-08 20:09:41
Murder. It’s unique, mysterious and sexy: Named after a family of killers, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
are an Alabama-based Southern metal group with a bit of an Hardcore edge, and their new album, II is out on March 20th. This will make their debut on Ferret music.
II, as well as the whole M.a.t.s.o.D imagery is based on the stories/legends of Ma Barker
and her sons - a murderous crime family who shed terror all across the American south and midwest throughout the 1920’s. The album’s booklet is graced with beautiful photos courtesy of Ryan Russel, an extraordinary young photographer who also worked with Mastodon, the Melvins, Norma Jean and many others.
Formed in 2004 and led by Dallas Taylor (ex. Underoath), M.a.t.s.o.D have already been getting a lot of great reviews and recognition, and I must join the festivity as well. It’s time to get your Alabama Thunderpussy groove on, visit M.a.t.s.o.D’s MySpace page for a few songs, and check out this ver Read more:Raising
Grace yourself with Heaven and Hell set animation 2007-03-09 22:42:06 Paul Dexter, a lighting designer, was hired to design and handle the lighting arrangements of Heaven
and Hell’s stage on the upcoming and much anticipated tour (starting this Sunday!). He now shares on his website a few computer generated animation screen shots of the actual stage look and feel. It seems Dexter is using some extra special effects, and promises nothing but holy greatness. Flipping through these pictures, I can clearly catch the general wicked mid-evil-computer-game overall look of the stage, and I’m thankful that no stonehenges are involved this time.

Preview Our Impact Will be Felt: Tribute to Sick of it All 2007-03-09 09:22:16
Abacus recordings will be releasing Sick of it All tribute Album, celebrating the influential NYHC group’s 20 years of existence, on April 24. The line-up is very impressive, and contains exclusive covers by both Hardcore and Metal acts. I’m actually pretty excited about this, since it makes the third powerful tribute album in 2007 so far - right after the diverse EyeHateGod tribute and the free Saint Vitus covers project.
The official Myspace page of the release will include several tracks from the upcoming album; Each week, new tracks will be added as follows. Personally, I can’t wait to hear Sepultura’s version of “Scratch the Surface”.
Our Impact Will be Felt: Tribute to Sick of it All tracklist:
1. Rise Against “Built To Last”
2. Unearth “Clobberin Time/What’s Going On”

I scream, you scream, we all scream for some DOWN action 2007-03-11 04:44:32 It’s no big secret that my most anticipated album of 2007 is a new Down release. Actually, it has been my most anticipated album since their last release in 2002. A few live pictures from a fresh Seattle show were posted online, both on Flickr and on the official Down message boards. According to the lucky attendants, the band played mostly their old materials, but they also previewed a new song out of the new record, Down III, called “I Scream”. A very low quality version of it can be d/l from this location.
More Heaven and Hell: Vinny Appice interview 2007-03-10 23:37:41
Knac.com features an interview
with Black Sabbath/Heaven
and Hell’s drummer, Vinny
Appice, where he talks about the formation of the re-formation, the tour, Bill Ward and other drumming subjects. So, why Heaven and Hell?…
I don’t know if we couldn’t use the name Black Sabbath, but I think everybody wanted to distinguish it separate from all of the stuff that they did with Ozzy, when it was called Black Sabbath. Rather to go out as Black Sabbath and causing confusion again, they decided to call it Heaven And Hell, which kind of sums up this line-up. Especially with Ronnie on vocals, so it was called that. Everybody knows who it is, and what it is. So the name didn’t matter that much. The tickets are selling really quick, and the entire buzz on the Internet. It has gotten an amazing response. It extinguishes more of it’s own identity, doing it this way.
To be frank, I was very saddened to hear Ward wasn’t about to join the tour, although I se

Rock-n-Roll classic moment: the Motorhead guide to wrecking hotel rooms 2007-03-11 23:24:24 Now, this is an old, very old interview from back in ‘82 for the French television, during which Mr. Lemmy Kilmister and Phil Taylor demonstrate the gentle art of hotel wrecking
. I must admit that while their style is highly predictable, it remains inimitable. This is rock and roll (and a very drunk one).
