2008-07-01 22:47:00
I recently had a meeting with renowned licensed artist Carol Eldridge. Carol has started doing art licensing consulting as a part of her business, and I paid her a visit for my own session. I came out with a wealth of knowledge, and also with a list of many things to improve upon and work on. I won't be sharing much in the way of details about our meeting, but I want to share with you how insightf

I got the Alex flat files built!! Yay!!!
2008-07-24 13:47:00
I will admit, it was not pretty. The first hour and a half went along smoothly. Then, a mini-freak out occured when I accidentally merged the incorrect backing onto one of the drawers, using one of those plastic nails that are almost impossible to reverse! It's an odd thing, when you begin actively, angrily swearing at furniture. A bit weird to think about after the fact (who was that??) but funny.

Space limitations
2008-07-17 22:21:00
I've become frustrated with the limitations of my workspace. I have a serious lack of counter space, and my storage for many things is just not functioning well and really needs improvement.Tomorrow, I am going to Ikea to address some of these issues! I've got all of my measurements written down, a tape measure, and a list of specific storage needs. I've checked the web site to suss out some ideas

Let's make some cool stuff.
2008-07-14 20:20:00
These are mini-cards with envelopes (not shown)I originally had tonight slotted for working on one of my children's book dummies. But I found myself inadvertently short on some pieces I need to deliver tomorrow, at the very last minute. I had to do some impromptu making-of-stuff .I love crafting and making stuff with my artwork. What artist doesn't? But I now remember why I got out of this line of

I am SO excited about the release of "You Lost Him At Hello" by Jess McCann (HCI Books). I designed and illustrated the cover, and it is my first published mass-produced fashion illustration work. I am also SO thrilled to have my work wrapped around such a witty and energetic, hilarious and ultimately VERY HELPFUL book! This book will make you laugh and nod! It's all about the laughing and the nod

I glue-stick one side of the chip board, then carefully line up the cover at on it. I then lay a sheet of parchment or wax paper

Art Tip

I was planning to work on a painting last night, and I took a couple snaps to show you what I like to do to safely experiment with different colors on my illustration.(Please excuse the dark photos)I take my watercolor ink drawing :This is just the drawing And then I place a piece of clear plastic over it and color with markers. This is the drawing with a clear plastic page over it, with marker. Binding update
2008-07-29 22:31:00
I went to Kinko's tonight to check out my binding options. There were only a couple of options that stood out for me for my time frame and my needs: Velo Binding and Tape Binding.Above: Velo Binding option (with the clear plastic cover)Velo Binding is when they fuse a piece (a thin bar, really)of plastic, paper-to-paper, along with your pages. So it fuses your pages together with plastic essential

The creation of a picture book dummy
2008-07-28 23:00:00
I am once again working on my first picture book dummy. I worked hard on it earlier this year, but put it away for awhile until recently (...like letting dough rise, ha ha... or making beer. I've never made beer, but I think it needs to sit in the cellar for awhile.) Anyhow, this is the same original story, but it is Version 2.0 of the actual dummy!I am finally figuring things out for myself regar

Studio update 7/27/08
2008-07-26 23:35:00
For more pics click here (takes you to Flickr.)We are getting there! I think things are just going to officially be a "work in progress" from here on in. There are things that would be ideal to change, but that I simply cannot change about my space right now -- fundamental usable-workspace things, not talking 'bout cosmetic things -- but the room is in as good of a shape as it is likely to get fo

BED TIME is a part of the daily routine that many kids don't enjoy very much! Here is a peek into a new kid style I am working on. The style is evolving from when I first started sketching, and I'm now seeing things begin to gel with it. I've not posted any art of this style yet - this is the first. Hope you enjoy seeing my progress with it!

BIG BIG BIG NEWS!! Tomorrow morning, Jess McCann, author of the book "You Lost Him At Hello", will be a guest on Fox's Morning Show with Mike and Juliet!!!!!! (If you remember from a month or so ago, I posted about the book several times because I did the cover illustration and design!)The book pops right off the page, so I just know that Jess will be as effervescent as a nice glass of champagne!

The Pika Package August 2008... I'm in it!!
2008-08-18 21:48:00
The Pika Package Project is a very unique collaborative effort. It involves around 40 artists a month, one super-energetic woman named Amy (who organizes the project, picks the artists, photographs the goods, assembles the packges, publishes a magazine, and... and... well you get the picture). But last but not least, it involves YOU, because YOU have the opportunity to WIN one of two August 2008 Pi

Illustration Friday: Detach

The boat detached from the harbor to go off on a big adventure. This is a greeting card I made for a friend. It's from a couple of years ago but it really fit with "detach". I almost posted it for "sail" last week but little Cap'n Doggie fit that one so well that I went with him, instead for last week.
