Ummm...I think I can see the future... 2007-03-01 01:54:00 Wow, the other day I went ballistic because some council people in New York wanted to ban an ugly, offensive word. As ugly as it is, I rhetorically wondered where it would stop. Well, looks as if Florida is grabbing a sled and plunging headfirst down this slippery slope. This time, the term they want to ban is...please, if you're under 18 click here...illegal alien. Yes, State Senator Frederica Wilson think
s this term is offensive. Read The News-Press.com article if you think I'm lying. Frederica states she has no problem with the term 'illegal', though she prefers 'undocumented,' but finds the term alien offensive. Ignorance is bliss Ms. Wilson. Might I suggest a dictionary next time you decide to publicly embarrass yourself. We are going to take a moment to educate Ms. Wilson, so please be patient if you already realize how absurd her idea is. An alien is defined as an unnaturalized foreign resident of a country, according to American Heritage Dictionary. An immigrant
Supermajorities 2007-02-27 18:20:00 Please realize I consider myself a conservative, not necessarily a Republican (especially recently). What is really starting to grind my gears (Family Guy reference intended) is the fact that every time the Democrats want to do anything in the Senate, the news talks about the 60 votes necessary to pass it. The Republicans faced the same hurdle. There are only 100 Senators. Logic, and math, would dictate you'd only need 51 people for a majority (50 if the V.P. supports the issue). Although I don't agree with many of the issues the Dems want to pass in the Senate, I still think an up or down vote is only fair to the American people. That would enable us to hold our elected leaders accountable in the next election. The filibuster should be the exception, not the rule. Under our current system of checks and balances, if the President thinks a law would be harmful, he can veto it. That is when a supermajority would be needed to get the law passed.Obstructionist politics sucked when
An Inconvenient Hypocrite 2007-02-27 00:05:00 Al Gore's science-fiction thriller "An Inconvenient Truth" won an Oscar for best documentary. This is like giving "The Departed" an Oscar for best animated short film. Throughout the film, Mr. Gore exaggerates by 2000% the possible rise in ocean levels due to the alleged warming of the Earth. Al Gore claims the oceans will rise by 20 feet, while even the inflated estimates of the U.N. state it will be 17 inches. With record snowfalls in the northeast, motorists stuck on a Pennsylvania highway, and record cold temperatures in the Midwest, it seems that global warming has taken a hiatus this winter. The real inconvenient truth here is that global warming is a theory, not a proven fact. The weather on this wonderful planet changes, and has for millions of years. But in a stunning display of hypocrisy, the self appointed moral authority on global warming claims we all need to reduce our energy usage while his luxurious mansion sucks up enough energy in a month to power most American h
Banning a word...solving nothing 2007-02-26 15:56:00 In typical 'feel good-do nothing' political fashion, there is a movement being discussed by the New York City Council to ban "The N-Word." Read the New York Times for the back story. All I can think is...what the hell? Now we begin to legislate political correctness in unenforceable, symbolic statutes. Is it wrong to call someone "The N-Word" in an attempt to belittle or demean them? Ummmm, duh! But common decency and civility dictate its wrong to call anyone any name for those purposes. Banning
a word doesn't even address the issue. It simply makes some people feel like they've done something, although that something is nothing. But since nothing is nothing, nothing isn't something. See how stupid this can get?All I'm saying is, if we ban one word, what about the rest? Shouldn't Asians be allowed to ban 'The G Word,' Jews 'The K Word,' and Democrats 'The L Word.' All are insulting, degrading, and derogatory. Maybe our new Speaker of the House can create a House
Lets jump right into this... 2007-02-25 15:44:00 Recently, the BBC ran a story titled “Mexican anger over U.S. ‘trespass’ ” on their website. It goes on to state that Mexico’s Congress has condemned a border violation by U.S. crews building parts of the proposed 700 mile border fence. The alleged violations are that U.S. crews and equipment are up to 10 meters inside Mexico. These violations are said to have occurred near Douglas, AZ. Later in the article, it mentions that over 1.2 million illegal entrants were arrested trying to cross the border in any one of the southwestern U.S. border states. That number was in 2005 alone. According to other estimates I've seen, there are over 12 million illegal entrants residing inside the United States at the moment. The irony here is almost too much to handle. While the Mexican Congress condemns the U.S. for a few work crews’ minor incursion into their sovereign territory, the U.S. Congress is looking at ways to fast track citizenship to those that are only here beca
Rehab for Ann? 2007-03-06 23:30:00 It has to have become obvious that I think censoring/banning words is an absolutely pointless symbolic gesture. People will use whatever words are available to them to express their opinions, perceptions or frustrations. There are effective ways to get ones point across. Her recent 'gaffe' was not one of them. However, the beauty of this country is that you can't be jailed for what you say, unless it puts others in danger (hurt feelings do not constitute danger). So Ann Coulter resorted to a snide remark about John Edwards. Was there a better way for her to get her point across? Probably. John Edwards reminds me of Doc Holliday in the movie Tombstone, when he points out to Wyatt, "My hypocrisy knows no bounds." The man is rife with inconsistencies and faults that make him one of the worst choices we could make to be leader of the free world. So Ann probably would have been better served pointing out one of these. She could have stated that although he points out that out o Read more:Rehab
Dust in the desert? Surely you jest. 2007-03-19 01:21:00 So last Thursday, it was reported in the Arizona Republic that the EPA found Phoenix's air violated clean air standards. Was it the pollution spewing from outdated factories? No. Hmmmm. Ok, then surely it must be the wasteful commuters in the Valley that don't drive vehicles powered by the byproducts of chicken nuggets and french fries. Nope. Well then, please, tell me who this criminal polluter is so that those that live in this desert paradise may breathe easier again. Oh...according to the EPA's spokeperson Captain Obvious, the contaminant in the air is dust.So by the end of the year, Phoenix has to come up with a plan to clean their air to comply with the clean air act. So the state of Arizona will devise a plan to alleviate windblown dust in the desert. And the next time Louisiana floods, maybe the same miracle workers can part Lake Pontchartrain and allow all those stranded in Ray Nagin's 'Chocolate City' to walk to safety via dry land.

And Detroit is Just One City 2007-03-22 17:13:00 U.S. Representative Tim Walberg is in the pressure cooker for comments he made likenening Iraq's state of security to Detroit
's. What he actually said was that most of Iraq "is reasonably under control, at least as well as Detroit." The mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, and the Dems are up in arms over this statement. Mr. Kilpatrick's office states, "Any reference to Detroit as a war zone is absurd." Is it? Let's compare the country of Iraq to the city of Detroit and compare its relative safety.Iraq is country with a population of about 26,000,000 people, encompassing a land mass of just over 168,000 square miles. Currently, there is a force of about 125,000 U.S. servicemen and women in country. In 2006, 822 U.S. troops were killed in Iraq.Detroit is city with a population of about 850,000 people, encompassing a land mass of 143 square miles. In 2006, 411 people were murdered within this glorious city. Seems to me you're safer in Iraq than you are in Detroit.
First the rope... 2007-03-30 23:30:00 Vladimir Lenin has been quoted as saying, "The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them." An interesting article from the Associated Press shows that our courtrooms may allow our enemies to not only win, but to profit and fund their absurd notion of a "peaceful" religion. Six people prayed to Allah in Arabic, moved about the cabin to converse quietly with each other, requested seatbelt extenders, and cursed the U.S. while praising Saddam Hussein. Those people were pulled off the plane for safety concerns. Realize the exigency here. Is it not prudent to air on the side of caution when over 200 people's lives are at risk. The investigation was not able to probe anything criminal. But do we know for sure these Imams were not testing alertness and response? No, we don't.Now these Imams, that spoke so lovingly of our country to begin with, are not only using our court system to sue the airlines, but also the people that voiced their concerns to those in charg Read more:First
Morphine is my friend... 2007-04-05 09:34:00 For those that don't know, after about 4 days of abdominal pain, my wife finally convinced me to go to the E.R. Once there, it was discovered I had appendicitis. Meaning they would have to do surgery to take out my appendix. I don't know that i've ever been in this much pain in my life. The only shining moment is when the morphine injections enter my IV bag.Anyway, I'm expecting a quick recovery and new rants to continue soon. For the time being, remember that liberals suck, conservatives rock, and I'm high on an opioid. Read more:friend
Guests Of The Ayatollah 2007-04-17 02:12:00 A new feature of this blog is going to be a book review. Not so much a book review as a telling as to whether or not you should read a book. So while I was infirmed, I read two books, but will review only Guests of the Ayatollah: The Iran Hostage Crisis: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam at this time. For those that don't know, this book is written by Mark Bowden, the same man that brought us Blackhawk Down and Killing Pablo, two of my favorite books. First off, I'm kind of predisposed to anything Mark Bowden writes. His matter-of-fact, this is the way it was, like it or not style of writing appeals to me when reading historical accounts. His dissection of the events of those 444 days of captivity of our countrymen is detailed and unapologetic. I was only a child during these events, but vividly remember my grade school teacher telling the class about the hostages' freedom, and then a discussion on what freedom meant.I feel for all of those victims of the
The Blame Game Begins 2007-04-19 16:17:00 Fingers are already being pointed. The President of Virginia Tech should be fired. The Police Chief and his department should have foreseen this as a consequence of the first shootings. Mental health workers should have done more. The administration should have heeded warnings and forced this anti-social psychopath into treatment. And the judge should have kept him there. That's a lot of should haves. Oh wait, I forgot one! People should have been allowed their right to defend themselves. The second amendment is not just a protection against a government gone awry. Back when it was written, guns were a necessary defense mechanism. There were raids by hostile natives, random acts of violence (yes, murder is not a 20th century innovation), and the occasional tyrannical dictator that wanted to deprive you of your rights. I hope the one thing we can learn from this is that the second amendment is vital to ALL law abiding, freedom loving, self-reliant citizens. Even in the era o Read more:Blame
Calling the Kettle Black 2007-05-20 14:35:00 Jimmy Carter has called President Bush and his policies "the worst in history" in international relations. Yes, the former President that created the misery index as a way to describe the domestic mood had the gall to name call the current President. Is Carter hoping upon hope that there is a chance we forgot about the true worst President in U.S. history?Let's not forget the Carter legacy. We gave away the Panama canal, in international interest. He immediately recognized the 'legitimacy' and 'goodwill' of the Ayatollah in Iran after the overthrow of the shah. He sliced our military readiness to dangerous levels. He gave us a the beautiful tag team of double digit inflation and stagnant growth, two economic concepts that theoretically should not even be able to exist together. Finally, nothing would be worth noting about the Carter legacy without mentioning the 50+ American citizens kept hostage in Iran for 400+ days, while America laid like a helpless giant unable to do a Read more:Calling

The End of Days 2007-06-15 18:13:00 Today, June 15, Senator Trett Lott accomplished what no college professor or mainstream media pundit was able to accomplish. The Republican party has lost touch with who its base of support was. They no longer push forth conservative causes. Don't believe me? Since when is it a conservative value to spend more money than you bring in. They no longer care about those that for so long kept them in power. Today, I've registered as an independent.I will miss my party. Maybe soon a party will come along that will appeal to disenchanted conservatives like myself. Until that day, I hope you enjoy this video, and let it remind you of some of the better times for the Republican party, and this country.
I Beg Your Pardon? 2007-07-11 21:21:00 OK, so it's a little late, but lets talk Presidential powers here. President Bush commuted Scooter Libby's prison sentence. Agree or disagree with the decision the President made, it's his to make. For any reason. Yet, Billary (Bill and Hillary Clinton) have the nerve to question the President's decision. Where does the hypocrisy end with these people? It was bad enough when Hillary said she was afraid of what dirt she may find once she's back in the White House (as my Mother would say when talking about death, "Oh God Forbid!"). Does she not remember her husband's staffers pillaging the White House when George W. Bush was preparing to enter that coveted residence? But now, in what can only be described as chutzpah, she wonders why Scooter Libby benefited from an executive decision.Marc Rich and Roger Clinton received FULL PARDONS from Bill Clinton. So apparently in Clinton/Democrat logic, it's OK to fully pardon a family member or high dollar campaign contributor, but a Read more:Pardon
I'm back 2008-06-16 21:08:00 After about a year, it has been suggested that I begin this blog again in order to vent, and perhaps lower my blood pressure. I guess I got discouraged after seeing things get worse and worse in the political world. Well, I'm no longer discouraged. After seeing the Tucson City Council, led by one of the most ineffectual mayors in the history of mankind, take this City on a backwards path, I've
Penny here, 3/4 cent there, adds up to real money 2008-06-18 16:46:00 So Arizona has been looking at adding 1 cent to the sales tax for transportation needs. Now, they are authorizing Pima County to add 3/4 cent to hotels, rental cars, restaurants and bars. These raises in taxes are misguided for the purposes they purport to support.Let's just say that all of these taxes pass. That would add 9.75% to your bill right off the top. Pretty soon, State and Local Read more:Penny
A temporary win 2008-06-28 17:49:00 The state legislature, at the last moment, did not allow Pima County to vote on that asinine .75% increase to the sales tax. Excellent! And in order to make the budget balanced, they actually made cuts. Yip, a government entity that cut its spending. Things are looking up. Now we wait for Tuesday and see what the Council does about Mike Hein.
Apostle Rick 2008-06-26 17:14:00 I know I said that I was going to keep this on local politics, but I just need to mention that I have become a believer in Dave Ramsey. For those of you that don't know who he is, Dave Ramsey is a radio talk show host and best-selling author that is convinced a debt-free life is a path to true peace. The man is a genius, and I am dedicating myself to live his principle of getting rid of all debt
End of Days? 2008-06-25 22:05:00 Tucson City Manager Mike Hein is under attack. So much so that Mayor Bob Walkup had to leave the National Conference of Mayors in Miami in order to defend him. Will it matter? I sure hope not...the man has to go.For months, the Tucson Police Officer's Association has been calling into question Mike Hein's credibility and honesty during contract negotiations. Hein, out of nothing but spite, cut
When gun banning doesn't work 2008-07-03 10:40:00 I saw this coming for years. The efforts to save the planet are just a different spin on ways to have the government control your behavior. Don't believe me? How about the fact that the Supreme Court has ruled that CO2 is a pollutant. Guess what you put into the atmosphere everytime you breathe. Yip, a pollutant. I can't wait for the first regulation for that one.But that's old news. Today,
