Day 138 Video: Easy Delicious Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream!
2008-05-01 13:27:07
Here is another recipe from my secret archive featuring one of my favorite people in the entire universe: my niece and sous-chef, Samantha. This is an extra special recipe because it's so delicious that it can fool any non-vegan. Even incredibly picky 7-year-old Samantha liked it! Phew - that's a relief because just prior to filming the vid, we went to the store to pick up the ingredients and

Day 137 - Zumba Fever!
2008-05-01 06:51:10
When I read Debbie's blog post recently about Zumba, I knew the name sounded familiar. Sure enough, I had seen it on the class schedule at the Y. So tonight, I decided to check out what all the fervor was about. The class was packed with about 50 women and one very happy guy. When the music started, I was transported to my Latina childhood (no I'm not Hawaiian.) Salsa, rhumba, merengue,

Shredder Council 2.0 Trial By Fire!
2008-04-30 06:09:47
The free ride is over! No more riding on Adam Waters' coattails. The RTP Shredder Council must now prove themselves to earn a coveted seat on the exclusive Council board. Daily picture-taking to uniform standards and blogging are now default minimum requirements. For those who may not be familiar with the Shredder Council, we are a group of people who support each other in our physique

Day 136 - 600 Rep TT Circuit Coming My Way
2008-04-29 19:21:23
Today was my first day on the Feb08 Turbulence Training Circuit Program. This is a nice switch because most TT programs are typically 2 workouts consisting of three supersets. But with this program, there are three different workouts A,B & C with 7 - 9 different exercises each performed in a row without rest and then repeated two more times. I loved it because it really got my heart pumping AND

Day 135 - Weekly Nutrition Tip: The Sunday Ritual
2008-04-29 09:54:18
************************************************************************* Tip #2: The Sunday Ritual by Dr. John Berardi of Precision Nutrition To ensure that good foods will be available when you need them, use the Sunday Ritual. This is performed by setting aside three hours every Sunday to write out your menu for the week, shop for the week, and prepare your

Day 134 - I've Got A Shiny New Badge!
2008-04-27 20:29:18
I feel as giddy as an 8-year old Girl Scout with my new badge. It's a TT Breakthrough Challenge badge that all the cool kids are sporting in their sidebars these days. This badge represents a group of Turbulence Training fans that have come together to collectively support one another through the next TT challenge. One of my fellow TT contestants, Sara organized the group and designed the badge

Day 133 - Motivational Mantra Hall of Fame
2008-04-26 22:15:16
Well, here it is - the Shredder Mantra Hall of Fame! "Get er done!" "You can do this...time to bring it!" "*%& *& %*^!# *%!%" - (colorful adjectives and adverbs) "Half assed efforts give you half assed results." "Come on, push it." "Hear me roar watch me soar." "Anybody can do this...and so can you." "Just five more minutes." "If she can run a 24 hour race to completion I can do one more rep, 5

Day 132 - End of My Winning Streak
2008-04-25 19:02:10
Today really WAS bananas! I had company over most of the day and my 100% accountability streak came to a screeching halt. I prepared for the day in advance though, by getting to the gym early this morning and really sweating out my last TT2K5 workout. I've now completed 4 weeks of TT2K5, so as per Craig Ballantyne's suggestion, I will be picking a new program beginning on Monday. I love this

Day 131 - This is Bananas!
2008-04-25 05:21:45
I was reading an article today about mind and motivation in Women's Health magazine. They polled 100 women and asked them what they "told" themselves when their mind wanted to quit but they knew their body could go further. Some of my favorites were: "Don't judge it, just do it." "This is not the hardest thing I have ever done." "I am strong beyond belief. I am powerful beyond measure." "A strong

Biggest Loser and Turbulence Training Connection
2008-04-23 19:36:20
I recently caught the news about the latest Biggest Loser winner (so I'm a little slow - lol.) Ali Vincent is the first woman to ever win the contest and she looks AWESOME - muscular and lean! She lost 112 pounds training between 8-10 hours per day. Man, I just can't imagine doing that! On the one hand, I'm SO inspired by her and on the other hand, I feel like such a loser because it's taken me

Day 129 - End of the Bikini Parade
2008-04-22 20:21:59
I found some more old bikinis while rummaging through my belongings in my garage. This is the end of the bikini parade for a loooong time. I don't think I'll ever need to buy another one during my lifetime because I plan on fitting into these when I'm 95! Another good day of training and cardio although I feel like I'm putting forth a lot of effort and reaping tiny, slow changes. But whatever.

Day 128 - Monday Nutrition Tips Debut
2008-04-21 19:00:19
I haven't been tracking my stats on Monday s like I used to for two main reasons. (1) I don't want to get wrapped up in the numbers anymore since bodyfat scales are often inaccurate and don't reflect what is truly happening within your body or how you feel physically and (2) I'm lazy - lol. So I'm subscribing to the Adam Waters method - take daily pictures, keep an accountability log and watch

Day 126 - Dawn of a New Era
2008-04-19 22:31:29
I read the article below recently on Diet Blog. It covers some of the key benefits of our shreddersphere: (1) support, (2) accountability, (3) time machine, (4) helping others, and who knows, maybe a book deal for a shredder or two? I know the fat-burning machine Michael is hard at work on a shiny new e-book! ******************************************************* Could Writing a Blog Help You

Day 125 - Bike is Back in Service
2008-04-18 19:28:13
.nobrtable br { display: none }It was such a gorgeous day here in NJ, that I dusted off my poor neglected and flat bike, walked it to the service station and pumped up the tires. Then I went for a great long ride around town. Not exactly the same as Kauai - lots more traffic and parked cars - but enjoyable nonetheless and a welcome switch from running. I really prefer exercising outdoors to the

Day 124 - Reunited and It Feels So Good!
2008-04-17 20:23:03
It's been nearly a month since I've seen my mate, but yesterday was the big reunion! The boxes that I shipped from Kauai finally arrived containing my beloved plate mates. I've been stuck using 25lb dumbbells for bench presses and rows, but now I can start to inch my way up to 30 lbers. My Kauai bikinis also arrived so now I have a bunch to chose from. Cool! Another stellar A+ day. I'm on a

Day 123 Video - Dreambody Visualization
2008-04-16 19:47:01
Besides my dreambody photo in my sidebar, I found this video below and pasted my head in and it's now my visualization vid. This will be me at the end of Beach Body Shred. It incorporates the missing sixth element: 1) Nutrition, 2) Training, 3) Cardio, 4) Mindset, 5) PRW and 6) SKIMPY CLOTHING! Lol. Now I made light of this when I heard Adam in one of his videos talking about wearing

Day 122 - The Carrot or the Stick?
2008-04-15 19:04:55
My online shreddermate from Down Under, Mike, posted a fun picture of himself holding a big ol' cane. We've been joking around that if I don't keep up a steady stream of 100% accountability days, he's going to come over and beat me with a stick. And if you've seen a picture of Mike, you know this no laughing matter. He's big and strong! A stern look is enough to get me back on course. Luckily, I

Day 120 - My Sinking Score
2008-04-14 05:51:22
.nobrtable br { display: none }Another wacky eating day. I'm so busy with online work and my 2007 tax return that it's causing me to eat erratically. I hardly got any sleep last night but I did go for a long run this morning. No pictures again today and haven't been around to comment on other blogs although I did stop by and read some. Debbie is on fire! I need some of what she's got. Can't wait

Day 119 - Family Reunion
2008-04-13 13:21:56
No Beach Body Shred photo today. After my morning workout, I spent the entire day at my sister's house well into the late evening. It was a wonderful reunion with all of my immediate family. I had planned on dinner being a reward meal, but the impromptu ice cream cake to celebrate my sister's engagement was off the chart. I also fell short on the accountability score because I was unable to

Day 119 - To Wheatgrass or Not?
2008-04-12 10:22:33
Since Sauchagirl asked me about wheatgrass juice yesterday, I thought I would post a link to this related article on Detox Diets that was published in the Tucson Citizen on March 19, 2007 and featured a picture of yours truly whipping up a cool, smooth wheatgrass juice. This is taken in the greenhouse that I used to manage for the Tree of Life in Patagonia, AZ. Here is the section on the Tree of

Day 118 - More PRWs
2008-04-11 19:49:47
So many "powerful reasons why" just keep stacking up! On top of my sister's wedding in May, she has now asked me to be her bridesmaid. So I will be front and center during the ceremony. I also got an evite from my old NJ ashtanga yoga gang for a party in 9 days. I still really haven't told anyone I'm back in NJ except for my NY friends. Although word is trickling out since I keep getting emails

Day 140 - Skinny Mocha: Breakfast of Champions!
2008-05-03 18:16:33
I went to Starbucks this morning to get online and I succumbed to a Grande Skinny Mocha . Oh, the guilt! In my mind, I had already deducted a point from my accountability score. But wait! Then I looked up the nutritional info. It's only 130 calories and no fat! It has 12g of protein and 19g of carbs - a ratio of 60/40. This is what Precision Nutrition recommends postworkout: no fat with a higher

The "Do Be, Do Be, Do" Dance
2008-05-03 15:24:32
Suzette's post on Thursday about "being" and "doing" and having a PRW reminded me of an amazing lecture I went to by Amit Goswami Ph.D., the author of ten books including The Self-Aware Universe, Visionary Window, Quantum Creativity and Physics of the Soul. You may know of him from the movie What the Bleep?!? He is a pioneer of a new multidisciplinary paradigm of science based on the primacy of

Day 139 - A Shredder's Life is Tough But So Am I!
2008-05-02 19:07:42
Today was a trying day. First, I had to go to the dentist. Yay - no cavities! But I have a loose filling that needs to be fixed and no insurance. Darn - I knew not having a bonafide job with a benefits package would come back to bite me someday. (Haha - Bite me. Dentist. Get it? I crack myself up.) Then I lost my internet access from home. I had been pirating borrowing a wifi signal, but today

Day 141 - A Minefield of Temptation
2008-05-04 13:51:47
I'm blogging at the library once again while listening to a live Mariachi band in the cafe next door. Cinco de Mayo celebrations are underway on this beautiful Spring day. Speaking of celebrations, I will be navigating a treacherous minefield of temptations this week. Tuesday is my niece's birthday party. Saturday is my niece's communion party. Sunday is Mother's Day brunch and the following
