Thursday 2006-12-07 15:42:00 I asked to leave early today for a doctor's appointment. I don't think my boss believes me, I think he thinks I am going to an interview. I don't have a doctor's appointment and my other appointment was cancelled last night after work. I am still taking off the afternoon for my "doctor's appointment" and will jsut get some holiday shopping done. I figured since he THINKS I am going to an interview, I will wear a very un-interview look. Who would interview for a job with bright blue eyeliner?Teal kimono-inspired dress from Paul & Joe for Target cut to tunic length. Denim trousers from Gap. Recent Weight Loss 2006-12-06 23:04:00 So, I have lost weight lately. Enough that my clothes still fit, but look a bit dumpy. Enough that my cheekbones are starting to show again. What is my secret?
I got a horrific stomach bug where I really did not eat solid food for a week. This caused me to lose over 10 pounds. It also caused my stomach to shrink
Since my stomach bug, I have been eating far less. The bug made it easy - now I can get full on half a sandwich or a Tupperware of leftover salad.
I have cut out all soda, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors and as many preservatives as possible. Seemed really hard, but it has been easy. I drink predominately water, on occasion I will have iced tea (unsweetened), and for alcohol I am mainly drinking wine, and far less of it.
I am doing yoga 2-3 times weekly and Qigong twice weekly. Neither are very aerobic, but they are having me move more than before, strengthening my body, and de-stressing m Read more:Recent

Black ribbed crewneck sweater from Chico's, black Tahari suiting trousers, long gray necklace from Target looped three times, black Enzo boots.
Hair is on it's third day, blown straight where bedhead was.
Makeup was done in a jiffy as that I lolled in bed too long reading for my Book Club. L'Oreal True Match foundation, Nars Orgasm blush, a bit of khaki shadow, a thin line of Maybelline Ultra Liner in black on top lash line, L'Oreal Voluminous mascara and Body Shop Lip Tint. Read more:Wednesday

This time of year, the sun hitsvery brightly in my spare room, making it hard to capture a full-length picture. This is the best I could get out of five tries.
Black cashmere crewneck sweater from Isaac Mizrahi for Target, gap ribbed tank in black underneath for opacity. Dark denim skirt from Gap - now too big with all this weight loss. Keeps spinning around. Under it are black footless tights from Old Navy. Black round-toe high heel pumps from Jessica Simpson. Silver chain from Ren Fest, silver pocket-watch necklace from Ann Taylor Loft. Large silver hoops and silver cuff bracelet.
Hair was washed and conditioned, then dried while brushing. Well, 80% dry. Then I ran to yoga, put half in an elastic to keep it out of my eyes and it dried the rest of the way while doing sun salutations. Came home, took the round brush and dryer to the bangs and left the rest alone, except for a small bit of Jonathan Dirt to make the smoothed part look a bit like the rough part in back.

Holiday party at my sister's place in the city. I am typing this as I wait for my ride, so I'll let you know how it goes!

So I called out sick again. I was still not holding down any food, but other than that I was feeling much much better.
However, I went out. I went somewhere and met with a someone, and depending on how it panned out, I will give you guys the juicy details. No, not as juicy as an affair or whatever - my husband drove me to this meeting. Just a possible change in my life, and for the good. This meeting required me to look nice, stylish, but not overdone... laidback style if that makes sense.
Black merino sweater from Banana Republic - those sweaters with the v so low it goes to the waistband. Under it, a black tank from Banana Republic. Black suiting trousers from Ann Taylor Loft (in a comfortable size 12 everyone!), and black high heeled round-toe pumps from Jessica Simpson. Silver multiple bracelet from Ann Taylor Loft, silver dangle earrings from Nordstrom, long silver chain bought at a renaissance festival, and long chain with pocket watch bought at Ann Taylor Loft.

Haven't consumed solid food since Saturday night and still have a low grade fever, but damnit, I am going to make the best out of the day! See that smile? I am feeling GOOD! Well not really feeling good but I am going to look as though I feel good! Let's celebrate! Hey, lost so much weight from this virus I see cheekbones and my trusty trousers are baggy and falling off. Some crazy women would be happy about this fact.
Black merino crewneck from Banana Republic. Ivory ribbed suiting trousers from Ann Taylor. Black city boots from Enzo. Strand of pearls from Limited, silver cuff bracelet.

Another business trip, another time traveling when sick. Caught some kind of stomach virus over the Thanksgiving weekend and I was feeling miserable.
Raspberry merino v-neck from Ann Taylor Loft, my turquoise pashmina, straight bootcut jeans from Gap, black city boots from Enzo, silver dangle earrings from Nordstrom and silver cuff bracelet.
Hair is washed, conditioned and brushed while being dried. Nothing special done to it, I don't feel well, I ache, the company should just be happy I am showing up.
Makeup is L'Oreal True Match foundation, L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in black and a sheer pink lipgloss from The Body Shop. Lots of foundation, hence the good skintone. Without it, I think I was a nice shade of green.
Tuesday
I wore my black triacetate pantsuit from Ann Taylor, the same boots, and an indigo silk knit sleeveless v-neck sweater from Ann Taylor. Hair blown straight, bit of Jonathan Dirt, and makeup was my standard. Forgot my camera so no picture from the hotel. Read more:Monday

Bright purple synthetic v-neck tunic from C. Brule. I don't like it. I am returning it to Nordstrom. Under it I have a black synthetic camisole from Victoria's Secret. Denim trousers from Gap, black city boots from Aldo, silver cuff bracelet, shades of purple beaded necklace from Express.
Hair is a mess, but I didn't try. It is windy, rainy and utterly insane outside. Imagine if the Wicked Witch of the West came into town - that type of weather. It's on it's second day, blew straight the bed hair and added a bit of Jonathan Dirt. As I write this it's up in an elastic because it got dripping wet when I dashed to my car.
Makeup is fun. L'Oreal True Match foundation, Body Shop stick concealer, Physican's Formula bronzer in light and a bit of Nars Orgasm to combat the winter pallor. Wednesday 2006-11-15 17:04:00 So I cut off my Paul & Joe kimono dress from Target. I have been considering it for a while. I wear it a lot, it's not the highest quality and it's beginning to look a bit worse for wear as a dress. A tad faded, a tad pilled, a tad misshapen. And well, I am feeling stagnant with my wardrobe. So this morning I cut off almost a foot off the dress with a pair of shears. The edge is raw, but I don't think it looks too bad. I also think I have enough length on it if I choose to hem it.With it I am wearing my Curvy Bootcut jeans from Gap, my teal suede wedges from Seychelles, a gray-blue, silver and gray-green beaded necklace from Target, my silver cuff and new dangly sterling silver earrings that I got at the Nordstrom Half Yearly sale.Hair is not quite how I want it. I realized I left my Sexy Straight Balm in a hotel on some business trip, hence the reason that my hair has been weird lately. Cream cable-knit hooded jacket cardigan from Express. Brown ribbed tank from Old Navy. Dark denim pencil skirt from Gap. Brown peep toes with wood heels from Maripe. Long glass and wood bead necklace from Claire's, looped twice.
Hair is washed, conditioned, blown dry while reading Lucky, using a bit of a paddle brush, but mostly the hands. Blew the bangs straight with a round brush. Headed out the door.

This Weekend 2006-11-13 20:48:00 Nothing terribly exciting. Got home from work on Friday, the husband and I walked to the town center, had dinner and listened to some live music at a cafe. Same outfit.
Saturday I got up and took a few laps around the lake, wore a berry colored tee from Target and black yoga pants from Old Navy and my New Balance trainers. Ponytail, no makeup.
Got home and did the equivalent of Spring Cleaning at Casa Dilly. Wore the same sweaty mess I wore on my power walk.
That evening, showered, changed into a gray CBGB tee shirt, charcoal shetland v-neck from LL Bean and Straight Bootcut jeans from Gap for a night at home watching Netflix and sharing a bottle of Vinho Verde with the spouse.
Sunday, did yoga via Comcast OnDemand and wore a pair of Champion black exercise pants and a blue-gray tee from Target.
During the day I had an Open House for my at-home business. I wore Curvy Bootcut jeans from Gap, black Enzo city boots, and a red long-sleeved tee from my company. Hair was dried straigh Read more:Weekend

Thursday Night 2006-11-10 17:39:00 So I got home, and had a quick salad before I headed to the city for the Andre Leon Talley presentation. And I spilled all over my black sweater and pants and was frantic. Hated my hair, outfit ruined, and just having an all-over grumpy day. I went upstairs and straightened my hair really quick, and put on one of the only clean things in my closet - my green and white print wrap dress from H&M. Red necklace, same red pumps, added some liquid liner and figured I was fine enough. Who cares, I don't know these people and will never see them again. It was slightly chilly, so I wore my raspberry pink trench from Ann Taylor Loft. I felt a bit as though I looked like I was wearing a costume more than an outfit. I felt spunky, not chic.I met my sister. She was wearing a black merino turtle, black skirt, tights and the same Target round-toe pumps I had. I guess it was for the best that I was not wearing black too. However, it really wouldn't have mattered. The audience was 95% fem Read more:Night

Thursday 2006-11-09 18:39:00 There are no pictures from Wednesday because my husband has decided to paint the hallway. This means the rug, the table, the artwork and everything else is in the room with the full-length mirror to the point that one cannot fully open or close the room's door. Also the light in that room? Well the lightbulb on the bedside table died so instead of going to the store to buy more bulbs, Hubby chose to remove the bulb from the lesser-used office and put it in the bedroom. Hot. So until he finishes his project, you will see my pictures taken in my company's elevator (if I am so lucky to have it to myself).
Here is today. Nothing too exciting, and it's quite a shame because tonight I am seeing Andre Leon Talley speak in the city. I really hate that my wardrobe is so bland and old and worn and I am meeting the epitome of a fashionista. hey, fashion mavens wear a lot of black, right? Black is safe. Black doesn't show the pounds I have put back on and doesn't show that I h Read more:Thursday

Meeting with client. Business casual is the attire. Then have to fly home in the outfit. Comfort and chic.
Black merino turtleneck from Ann Taylor. Ivory ribbed suiting pants from Ann Taylor (dry cleaner ruined the matching jacket, but the pants are still nice). Same black city boots from Enzo, same silver hoops and cuff bracelet. Wore a rasperry-colored trench from Ann Taylor Loft and carried my laptop bag as purse and case - it's black microfiber and part of the Michael Graves collection at Target.
Hair was washed and conditioned with the hotel stuff, then a bit of VO5 mousse applied and blown straight with crappy hotel dryer and round brush. Let's add to the fact that it was raining cats and dogs outside. Hair did NOT want to cooperate.

So today is Casual Friday
. And all my clothes are dirty or old or boring. And I have been feeling quite stagnant and corporate lately. So I did this combo, something that should be reserved for weekends, but whatever.
Brown tattoo-print tee from Target, denim skirt from Old Navy, distressed and cutoff by me, black thick tights that I cut off this morning, left tucked under my heels, so just part of the foot showing. Black round toe pumps from Target. Silver large hoops and cuff bracelet. In my hand is a charcoal shetland v-neck from L.L. Bean that was my father's - can wear that if I get cold. You can sorta see my daily purse - tan leather bag from this season's collection at Banana Republic.

Review: e.l.f Cosmetics 2006-12-10 17:18:00 Who can resist makeup for a dollar? I have been trying for months since I heard of e.l.f Cosmetics
(www.eyeslipface.com). I am the type who could drop some serious cash at Sephora (online or the shop), The Body Shop, a MAC counter or store or a fun cosmetics website without blinking. However lately I am trying to be good and frugal - I buy new cosmetics when what I have runs out (or gets snagged by the airport security checkpoint - ladies do not forget that Ziploc baggie with your next flight!). I research my choices so I don't have to buy twice. I am trying to purchase quality, not quantity. But Christmas is around the corner, and I love buying fun and frivolous mini gifts for my friends. Good excuse to try out e.l.f Cosmetics! And if I am purchasing for friends and the prices are at or near $1 each, well can't I treat myself too? So here are my reviews of the two goodies I purchased for myself:Hypershine Mini Lipgloss Cell Phone CharmsHow darn patootin' cute is this? For
