Web2.0 and blogging terms
2007-03-14 19:30:35
Before I start, I put my blog in for voting at this site squidoo.com/bloggingblogs Please vote for me by clicking the “^” symbol. I’ve gotten a lot of comments recently from readers who were dumbfounded on the term Web2.0, I’m used to seeing the term and knowing what sites fall into the category but I did not know the exact history of this coined term. I was surprised by its origins. Bill O’rielly and Dale Doughtery. Web2.0 Is the increasing revamping of the WWW, we see the original look of yahoo.com and the new beta makeover look to keep up with the new flashier jazzier layout. (more…)

Search Status by FireFox + IE
2007-03-16 16:36:01
For those who like to keep daily tabs on their status, linkbacks, whois and alexa rank there is a nifty little plugin created by the FireFox people. It’s created for FireFox and Mozilla for now, but I’m sure they will create something for IE for our non FireFox users. It looks like this: For every site you visit using, Search Status lets you view its Google PageRank, Google Category, Alexa popularity ranking, Alexa incoming links, Alexa related links and backward links from Google, Yahoo! and MSN. This combined search-related information means you can view not only the link importance of a site (according to Google), but also its traffic importance (according to Alexa), so providing a balanced view of site efficacy. After installing it and feeling bad about my dismal page rank, it really motivated me to do something about it even more so. If you’re like me with 0 as your page rank because you’re the new kid on the black it is also a great motivational tool! DOW

Thursday Thirteen #2
2007-03-15 15:13:26
In the tradition of what I am trying to express to all of my readers this is my second edition in joining the teeny looking Thursday Thirteen , however it does work. It shot up my visitors by 200+ the first time and keeps growing! So here are 13 ideas I’ve planned on doing or tossing around in my head for TBW (please leave feedback on what you want to see or if they are crap) 1. Blog Link Directory 2. Message Board 3. Blogging Resource Directory 4. Topsites 5. Award System 6. Hosting other blogs similiar to mine 7. Mailing list not through an RSS feed 8. Discounts with webhosting companies 9. Interviews with successful bloggers 10. Joining a media group 11. Blogging Book list - content 12. Paid Posts for related content places 13. Guest Bloggers. These are ideas I have been tossing around in my head what do you guys think of them? Any other ideas! I’d love to hear suggestions! Thursday Thirteen

Blog Media Networks
2007-03-19 15:53:43
I’ve been looking and researching about blog media networks, and placing TBW into one. I’m not sure if this is the specific route but I’m finding places who are accepting and figuring out what all the hullabaloo is about. After googling about this I came across The Blog Network List and went through the list trying to find the applications quick, easy and all the information to join. Some weren’t up, some were broken or hideous, so I came up with my list from popularity, ease of use on information to join, and aesthetic pleasure. Wurk.net is currently revamping but you do get a response, I’m awaiting my 2nd one about information on joining the net work. Weblogsinc.com - although the information to join the blogging group is right on the first page, I don’t like that you join into an existing blog and they rarely accept outside established blogs from the information floating around the web. foddernetwork - simple design and easy to get the informati

Must have plugins!
2007-03-20 16:34:02

You may see more than one version since there are so many for everything I included different ones I also enjoyed. Show Top Commentators - this is a great tool to boost commenting! Automatically links the person in a top # list and shows how many comments they have left! Del.icio.us Bookmark this! - auto adds bookmark this into every post! Aggregate - for networks and news sites it allows you to aggregate from your RSS feeds coComment Enhancer - allows you to integrate your coComments into your blog digg Integrator for wordpress 2.0+ - incorporates the digg buttons right into your site Incoming Links show the latest incoming links in your menu! Alexa Button Generator - put a button on your site to monitor your alexa ratings Permalink Migration when you update your perma link settings you lose a lot of rea

Content Resources
2007-03-21 22:00:34
Finding content is a really hard thing sometimes I know. Especially when you’re like me today and pressed for a deadline of writing a post. I try to post m-f. Unfortunately I was so wrapped up in my other new project in thinking up a name for it I forgot to post! I couldn’t believe it, however it is a true inspiration. I’ve collected some links. Its also great to aggregate news sources from places. I would say if you post daily like me, try to find a place that also posts 1-2 posts a day so that it doesn’t over power your blog as well! Please enjoy! I tried to keep them geared towards internet and blogging! Internetnews.com Webreferance.com Internet News Bureau ZDNet Wired/Blogs webmasterworld.com Blogspotting

FireFox EXT. & Review my Post
2007-03-23 18:12:50
I am testing out this crazy little function, and I think it is a good idea. I would like to say anyone who chooses to do it let me know I’d be more than happy to link you and get your experiences doing it! I’m hoping to use the money I make to help move my new network forward. The first temp layout is currently being created for it I’m excited! I have a few members already I just have to pan out the details. If anyone has any suggestions about what they’ve wanted from a network, cool programs that they think would work great in one please let me know! In effort of spicing up my FireFox browser I decided to look up new extensions. StumbleUpon is the first one I’m testing out. Its brought me to a bunch of sites I do not like so far and not one single blog. I am attempting to find random blogs to get new readers for mine! During my stumble I located these resources: Iptools.com typenow.net/themed.htm cookingbynumbers.com Adsense Notifier BBCode Squidoo Toolba

Blogger s want readers. The way to get and keep your readers is to consistently give them the information they’re interested in. How do you find out what they’re interested in? Here are 5 ways: 1. Do you have a search form on your page? (you should) What are readers searching for? For example, I have a kids site where I have coloring pages, word searches, etc., and when I see in

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the guest entry written by Randa Clay. I think she did a marvelous job and I really felt that everyone responded nicely, and I offered her to guest blog at her convenience! I’m just very happy with it. I’ve emailed around and have requested other blogs I admire for them to guest write, and would love to have more variety on here. I know I slacked off a bit on Saturday with no post and I apologize, I was a bit lazy getting obsessed with the xbox360 Rainbow 6 Vegas. That and working on my network which should be premiering soon. It’s been going well, and very smooth. I love how its turning out, there are a few tweaks which will work itself out as I expand and get money flow into it. However I think my premiere will come with a really nice contest to rumble up some activity! I have been working on my consulting and I have to say part of being a new blogger is about content and expanding on your entries. Thats the hardest problem the w

Collection of Themes
2007-03-28 19:09:03
I hate sifting through hundreds of sites to find just one decent wordpress theme. So I have collected a the list of beautiful, optimizeable! Just for these themes I made up a word :). Click the image for the download. I also recommend not futzing with the images on the site unless you know graphics well, or try to talk to someone you know who is very good at graphics. I’ve gone to many websites where I know the theme it was originally beautiful and someone then took a hacksaw too it adding fonts that do not match, or just look childish. So even the smallest things make a big impact. I immediately left because I feel if they think that is a good representation of their content then their content must be as childish or poor. When in doubt go plain! I’d rather goto a website with a layout that is dull then one that is offensively ugly :

Had to let you know
2007-04-06 17:44:04
Even though this gets me a submission I think its actually a great contest more people should enter. John Chow dot com, who also like me helps you Make Money off the internet is offering a microsoft zune giveway. Even though I’ve bought the zune before, I prefer the ipod but its a nifty toy. Plus if its brown and green I want it! I love the combination! To enter you have to do something above like I did! I like fair competitions so everyone enter! It’s an awesome prize. I’ll be doing contests like that soon! I just got a couple more clients for my consulting. The money not only is paying off my massive debt, but buying tons of great prizes for my readers. I do love all 16 of my rss feed readers. HAHA *cries* I’m working on building it up! But make sure you guys enter just like I did! And be sure to visit his site, I’ve learned a lot from him myself he’s a really great resource to have! I also want to know if you’re my reader and you win it

Skye-Host
2007-04-05 16:41:34
Skye-Host.com Now as many of you know this theblogworld.net is hosted by E-Starr.com, however I have to say I have a couple of other sites I tried out another host for and I am enjoying the stay there as well. They are called Skye-Host. They are currently the main server for one of my projects (undisclosed) and I have to say I am very happy with them. They were priced just right for my larger project. I received a nice amount of space and bandwidth for a decent price, not too much though where I would believed they were overselling but enough to feel like I had enough room to grow! They offer CPanel, Fantastico, Unlimited Sub.Domains, Unlimited FTP, Unlimited POP3, Unlimited email forwarders, Unlimited MySQL and so much more! Skye-Host’s support is friendly and fast! They also offer a message board for chatting and talking to other people and even non-clients can join and see what the fuss is about. They can even move your site for you!* I have to say I’ve tried several

Zoomple
2007-04-07 05:30:31
I surfed around the ‘net tonight and I found a site in a community on MyBlogLog. It’s called Zoomple. I joined it myself (the community I mean). I looked at the site and said to myself, “Even I coulda come up with something like this. Seriously.” And it’s true. It’s a cool idea, but it’s not the least bit original or creative. All it does is plaster your MyBlogLog profile image on a page. There aren’t even any pages (that I could see) or any posts having to do with the site (also a matter of me not seeing them). But I guess if you really wanted some kind of attention to your site, this could be one way to do it. So visit it at least once. Maybe you’ll like it. This has been a Guest Post by Jenny of Pajama Mommy.

Managing POP3 accounts
2007-04-06 21:53:05
Windows users: (I’m sorry I hopefully am getting a MAC soon so that I can find programs for my mac readers) If you are a like me and have A LOT of email accounts dedicated to numerous sites and companies you have to manage, having a good pop3 program helps! I myself have over 25 email accounts I have to manage! Since I goto work and they are cheap, and never give me anything including ANTIVIRUS! I have to find things to compensate. I was on the 3 month trial of MSOffice 2007, I loved it! Outlook 2007 is a great program but a little pricey, if you can afford it get it! Another program for those of us who like FREE is Thunderbird by Mozilla. Like Firefox, Thunderbird has extension capability. My favourite and only extension to this day is Lightning it is the Sunbird for Thunderbird. Installing it is a little tricky, if you are a Firefox user! Do not just click download, I had that problem and kept doing it over and over again! Right click save as. From there open up Thunderbird

Update for you
2007-04-06 21:29:38
I just wanted to let people know a good friend of mine Jenny who is as obsessed with SEO, PR, Alexa and everything that concerns blogs is going to be randomly guest posting on TBW. Her own site doesn’t have the audience for it and most people with personal sites like ours don’t really bother with Alexa or PR so she’ll be posting on here. Please make sure to give her comments as this is her first time posting about these topics!

Monetize your site with Kontera
2007-04-09 17:25:50
I have to say I’ve only been doing Kontera for a little while and 5 people have clicked my Kontera links and I’ve already made about $2.00 Not bad off of 5 links I must say. I wanted to tell you the success I’ve had with Kontera because its a great little program, the only draw back is you must make $100 dollars before you are paid! I’ve got a wee bit of a way to go but hopefully I’ll get there soon! As from what I’ve seen on there, I’ve yet to locate an affiliate program but instead they have Partnerships. You have to create a partnership with them and people sign up from under you. JohnChow created a partnership over 400 people signed up only about half implemented the ads into their website. I’m assuming because he’s a big man on campus they’ve constructed it with him to promote their program but maybe even a little guy can get in there if not now but soon!

Are you a comment lover? Check this out.
2007-04-09 08:25:00
Like the title says. Are you a comment lover ? If you are, you must love getting comments. That’s the only reason you would be one. There are many ways to boost your comment count and gain readers. Such as participating in Meme’s like Thursday Thirteen, or Wordless Wednesday, as well as many others. There are also message boards to promote you blog, or just linking to it in your “sig” can get you some attention. I also like MyBlogLog. The one thing I really rely on are joining blogrolls, commenting on other sites (hoping they return comments.), and a comment swapping program at Despair.NU. I get a lot of comments from people there. The way it works is, you submit your site, wait to be approved,if you are approved you then add a link to your site, and wait for an email giving you the links to sites you are suppose to comment on. You get three a week each email includes three sites to comment on. Not only do you get comments but, you might also find you&rsquo

Adwords is working
2007-04-10 15:41:18
So far so good, I have to say even though I am anti-adsense adwords is working very well. Guess what 5 dollars bought me? 31 clicks! 26 of them to theblogworld, 4 to namenova.com and 1 to templatescene.com I originally signed up for template scene to be the one for adwords, but I figured it’ll be great. After I spent the 5 dollars in there I reloaded it with 25 dollars. I have to stop spending before I spend my entire paycheck! I figured twenty 5 dollars is a good show. Namenova has $1 dollar a day spending limit TheBlogWorld has a $5 dollar a day spending limit TemplateScene has a $15 a day spending limit I haven’t quite figured out how to go from $50 a month to a daily spending limit, but I’m still figuring out the whole adwords thing. I will post more about it once I’ve learned more. I have to say I enjoy it very much, and it is working out well for a small budget. I’m sure it’ll work out better if I had hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend

Google Adwords
2007-04-09 21:42:44
As many of you know I am not so much fond of the publishers adsense but I am going to try to do the Adwords for Advertisers. I’ve started very low because I am not a millionaire. I have 3 ads in rotation which are TheBlogWorld.net, Namenova.com and Templatescene.com I have put them in rotation and I’m going to tell you how well I do and give you the complete lowdown of an average joe’s experience. I put 10 dollars in but to sign up it was a $5 dollar charge so right now my balance is 5 dollars. I do prepay make it easier. I know a lot of you know how much I dislike it but, My newest project TemplateScene needs promotion, and I figured this is cheap and easy. I’ll be checking into various other paying promotions but that are also built for people who are on low funds. I haven’t gotten paid for my consulting so I cant exactly put in the amount of money in the promotion department I would like to for my websites. Namenova I’ve never had to, its always

PR Updates
2007-04-12 22:52:55
I did a little more researching after a lot of people complaining of large backlinks but no PR well I located a great website that explains why. Page Rank Update List This Page Rank Update/Export List History contains the dates that Google Toolbar Pagerank (PR) was exported. As of April 12th, there has not been a Toolbar PR export for 76 day(s). The longest time between toolbar PR exports recorded in the below Page Rank Export List was 122 days (Oct 19/2005 to Feb 18/2006)…. This better reflects what is happening when there is a visible change in these three items. There is only an export not an update. The word update will be reserved for Algorithm Updates which will cause a change in the search engine rankings. The Toolbar Pagerank, Google Directory Pagerank, and Backlink exports don’t cause a change in search engine rankings. Any ranking changes during the export of the values of these three items is due to on going everflux changes - unless there is an algorithm update
