Vanity, Thy Name Is Expensive Torture
2008-02-24 07:33:00
It's been a while since I actually did something proactive about my egoistical need to look pretty even though no one else notices the way I look, so I decided to do a little torture pampering.I started the day early with a session with my sister's beautician. I have to say that it's one of the best facial experience I've ever had. She had a gentle touch and she didn't prod my skin mercilessly. In fact, she was really nice. The best part was that she didn't charge us (my sister and I) too expensively since two of our aunts are partners in the small spa establishment. I'm actually looking forward to the next session in two weeks. (Yes, my skin is bad enough that it needs bi-weekly treatment).Later in the day I decided to go for a haircut. Originally, I wasn't planning to cut my hair until S

My Bubbles!
2008-02-21 08:14:00
Remember back in the day when you were still a child, for twenty cents, you can get a small pink bottle that you can blow your own bubbles until your lips pucker up from the soap? I love those. It's been years since we last had any bubble blowing toys in the house as my sisters are all grown up. That is until my dad received an elephant-shaped bottle of bubble liquid at the petrol station.I've been playing with is at least once a day and now there's only half a bottle of the soapy liquid left. It's really fun and relaxing, blowing all the bubbles and watch them fly around the room. I especially love it when the fan is on and you get to see the way the air moves. My sisters think I'm strange but then, that's normal.Once I've finished the small bottle I'm going to get this:You can actually g

Second Breakfast: Becoming Hobbit-Like
2008-02-20 19:58:00
Listening to Blind Guardian's Nightfall In Middle-Earth album, which is based on Tolkien's Silmarillion, made me want to start reading Tolkien again. I've already read Lord of The Rings twice but never got around to finishing The Hobbit or even starting Silmarillion. I've had The Hobbit for seven years, having bought it a week before my exams while in uni but had to stop due to well, exams, and never finished it. So this morning, I restarted The Hobbit and I'm only in the first chapter but so far, it's been ok. I don't want to overload on Tolkien by reading all the Middle-Earth books I have back to back, so I'm going to intersperse it with romance novels other genres. If you've seen the movies or read the book, you would know that a hobbit takes seven meals a day; breakfast, second breakfas

Would You Think I'm Strange...
2008-02-19 07:46:00
If I told you I love going to museums? I actually love learning about history, just that I hate studying it for exams. I never understood the need to remember the dates during exam because I thought that understanding why something happened and what could have been done to prevent a catastrophe was more important than any dates, but hey, I was a geography student; what do I know.So anyway, back to them museums. There are a number of local museums that I've been meaning to go but just never got around to doing so.1) Asian Civilisation Museum - I never knew that this museum existed until a few years ago. I was walking down Singapore River and there it was. According to the site, they have a gallery that houses about 2500 years of history of the region and that just made my inner budding hist

Family Gatherings, You Can't Get Out Of It Even If You Tried
2008-02-17 09:23:00
I'm not sure about anyone else but family gatherings are something that I look forward to and yet, I dread at the same time. Let me tell you why.In my family, gatherings like the one I had earlier today always involve loads of food. So many different kind of food that by the time everyone leaves, they'll be filled to the gills and they even packed some of the food since there was so much left after the whole thing. It's not a Malay family gathering without food enough to feed a whole village for a week.An epic gathering usually happens when cousins come home for a visit. Especially when said cousins bring the newest addition to the family with them. When else are we going to meet the little tyke, since they'll be moving to another continent next week. These gatherings are also great opport

Just Another Day
2008-02-14 08:39:00
It's just another day for me since I don't do the Valentine's Day thing.I finally got to cook dinner for my cousin and her family. They're back her for a week or two before the move to the other side of the world. So we had beef in soy sauce (I'll post the recipe soon) and everyone liked it. Too bad the beef was tough or it would have been better.I got to meet my nephew who shares my birthday and he's so cute! All chubby and oh, so delicious looking that I could eat him in one gulp. He's still cute even if he did drool all over me. And then he cried.I'm looking forward to the trip to the Night Safari, this weekend with my cousin and her family. It would be interesting. Nocturnal animals! Different from the zoo! Can't wait.So yeah, it's just been another day for me.Technorati Tags: Life

7 Weird Things About Me
2008-02-11 19:26:00
I was tagged by Savia for the following meme, though I think whittling the list down to to just seven might be a little hard. Here's the rules:7 random or weird things about yourselfThe rules are as follows:# Link to the person who tagged you# Post the rules on your blog.# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.1. I have a memory of an elephant when it comes to inane things. For example, I can tell you exactly what happened in a book that I read two or three years ago but important things (for my job that is) like how to do a simple gel filtration and such, I draw a blank.2. I read the dictionary when I'm bor

Switching Facial Cleanser = Acne Breakouts. Dammit!
2008-02-11 02:57:00
I switched facial cleanser recently and the breakouts that resulted from that change is horrendous. In hindsight, I guess it was really a silly thing to do to switch cleansers since the old one was working well. I switched from Deep Cleansing Seaweed Cleanser from The Body Shop to the Deep Cleansing Wash from Simple. It always takes at least 4 weeks for my skin to adapt to the new cleanser and during that time, I have hell of a lot of trouble trying to keep the breakouts at bay. The Deep Cleansing Mask from Simple may have also had some contribution to the sudden massive breakouts since you know, deep cleansing masks brings out the impurities from the skin which in turn causes acne. For me at least, not sure about other people though.I also think that my diet lately has affected my skin. I

Miss Grumpy McGrumpypants Cooks Lunch
2008-02-08 05:19:00
Hi, I'm Grumpy McGrumpypants and I want to hit people. I want to hit people for talking too loud, for being stupid or even breathing into my personal space BUT I didn't because I'm a good person that way. Even though, I really did want to inflict massive, unimaginable pain to the stupid people I had to encounter. Other than that, I'm all fine. Really, I am. What? You don't believe me? Oh shut up and get out of my face before I hit you.Anyway, I got to cook lunch today. Well, it's more like my mum said, I'm not home today so you cook chicken rice for lunch. So I did and the recipe is here. Lunch was good. It wpuld have been better if I'd remember to add in salt for the soup. Hmm... I wonder if we need more chicken? Oh well.I got to spend the whole day watching DVDs and not doing anything m

I Need More Movies
2008-02-05 08:38:00
I just came back from watching Sweeney Todd with my sisters and it was good. Disturbing, but good. I loved the blood and gore and the way he murdered his victims but the singing. Gosh, the singing. It was like I was reading Lord of the Rings again, the part where Legolas was singing and singing and singing. Pages and pages of singing. I almost walked out of the theater if the singing lasted longer than it should.Overall, it was a movie but I find it a little too disturbing to be added to my DVD collection.Next movies to watch would be 27 Dresses and Jumper.Technorati Tags: Movies

Which One Of My Friends Is A Competitive Asshole?
2008-02-04 06:38:00
That should be the real title for all board games, because seriously, it's true. I happen to be one of those a**holes too. I play to win and when I lose, I'm a sore loser don't take it very well.My favourite board games to play are Scrabble, Monopoly and Cluedo. I wonder if Boggle would be counted as a board game. I do have Scrabble, Monopoly and Cluedo at home but my sisters don't really want to play with me. Maybe due to the reason above. Besides, playing with them isn't that fun because it's not challenging for me.I would love to play these games with other competitive assholes because that would make it more interesting and, well, competitive. Everyone would be playing to win and the victory would be sweeter because then, you get to rub it in their faces. *insert maniacal evil laughter

You Have To Check This Out
2008-02-03 06:36:00
Since I don't get to travel as much as I want to, I love going to travel sites to read what they have, just so that I can pretend that I was there and experiencing what the writers did. Also, the photos are cool too. They make me wish that I was there, which I guess is the main point of the photos. One of these travel sites is Itchy Traveller. A cool site I must say. The site has great travelling tips like for example, did you know that it's better to get a seat near the emergency exit because you have more leg room? I didn't. I usually take the aisle seat since, you know, the need to pee increases on a flight since you have to drink more fluids to prevent yourself from drying out. Or is that just me? Anyway, besides that, the site also has interesting articles that are well written and ac

My LoTR Obession. Passion. Life. (Pt 2)
2008-03-13 09:22:00
Back in 2006, I did a post on my obsession for Lord of The Rings. In the past few weeks, I've rediscovered the my love for it when I was listening to a Blind Guardian's song:It made realise that I had yet to read The Hobbit in its entirety or even start on The Silmarillion. So re-started the urge for me to delve into Tolkien's work again. It took me two weeks or so to finish The Hobbit because I could only get time to read it while I was commuting to and from work. It wasn't as dull, dry and uninteresting as I had originally thought. Although, that could be due to already having read The Lord of The Rings and experiencing the convoluted and complex way of Tolkien's wording. I still had a some trouble reading the story because at some parts, my mind would start to wonder and I had to re-rea

Learn-To-Cook-Something-New Sunday: Beef Rendang
2008-03-16 08:30:00
In my quest to learn to cook, I realised that I cook too much non-Asian food and very rarely do I cook something that originates from my own community. So I decided to learn a traditional dish that is usually served on Eid and that is beef rendang. The recipe is posted here. There are many variations to the dish and my mum taught me the simpler version. It was easy to make actually and for the first time in a along time, my mum told me the approximate amount of each ingredient instead of just 'a little of this' or 'some of that' because that just makes my inner scientist chomp at the bit.So anyway, it turned out rather well; spicy and thick, just the way I like it. I was thinking of doing a local dessert next week. Wish me luck.Technorati Tags: Food, Life

I'm a big fan of dark chocolate and I loved the creamy texture of it. The milk chocolate that they served us wasn't very well done as it separated into two layers; oil and chocolate. Besides, I thought that the milk chocolate as too sweet. Then I had the Italian chocolate cream in dark chocolate. Gosh, that was like drinking melted chocolate and I didn't want it to end at all. So when I found out that the prize for the monthly competition at Itchytraveller.com was a 5day, 4 night trip to Bali, I know I had to join. Check out the poster below. You have to be a member to join the competition but well, it takes less than five minutes to join anyway. Me = Scriptwriter?
2008-03-24 07:58:00
It's not November yet but the people at The Office of Letters and Light have come up with Script Frenzy, and I, like the insane writer wannabe, I signed up for it. Unlike NaNoWriMo, where you write fifty thousand words in thirty days, in Script Frenzy, you write a hundred page script in thirty days. Sounds easy? Well, it would be easy if you had a plot, scene and at least a semblance of an idea of what to write; which I have none. All I have is one character and that's it. Oh well, I'll just wing it (like I normally do). Wish me luck.Technorati Tags: Writing, Script Frenzy

How Was Your Weekend?
2008-03-23 09:20:00
Mine was great actually. This weekend had been one of the best weekend I've had in a long time.I had my well-deserved break from my family and it's recharged my batteries somewhat.Yesterday, I went for tea and spend some time among the book stacks at Kinokuniya. It was nice and relaxing. I even found a few books that I added to me to-read list once I've actually cleared my current pile and found space to store all my other books. So that might take a while. Also, I welcome book vouchers as presents. *hint hint*Then today, I cooked again, seeing that it's my learn-to-cook-something-new day. For a first attempt, my mother said that it was good and for the first time, she actually said that my cooking was delicious, so that was an achievement all on it's own. The ondeh-ondeh I made was not as

Is Borders Going Under?
2008-03-27 20:35:00
Nooo! Tell me it isn't so!According to this, it seems that Borders is under some financial difficulties and may be selling out (via). I hope that what ever happens, they won't be closing down the Borders. As it is, I don't think there's enough book stores. It's not like we have a Barnes & Nobles here. There was a Dymocks outlet at City Link back in the day but that closed to give way to MPH. Even then, the size of the store shrank. I know that there's always Kinokuniya but I need a variety of book stores because I find that each book store specialises in different genres of books and to be limited to just a few genres just makes my brain explode.I have an addiction for book buying and I can never get enough of them. So, anyone has any suggestions where I can get good (new) books and new rel

Tech Envy, I Have It
2008-03-27 09:23:00
I'm not much of a tech geek but that doesn't stop me from lusting after wanting the latest tech things that people have. I really, really want the following:1. ASUS eee PC: I guess this goes without saying since I've been saying how much I want this for a long, long time.2. Wii: Ever since I tried this out at a work event, I've been wanting to get it. I've heard that they have Guitar Hero for Wii too. I've never tried the Guitar Hero but I heard it was fun. I also like how interactive it is.3. Xbox: I want it just because almost everyone I know has it. Also, Guitar Hero!!The funny thing is that, I'm not even a serious gamer. I can barely play the games that involve you to shoot someone, without panicking. Actually, I can barely play any game without panicking and I want to get a game conso

What The Hell Was I Thinking?!
2008-03-31 08:27:00
Why did I think that I could do Script Frenzy? It starts tomorrow and I have no idea where to start! I haven't done any of the worksheets, developed any of my characters and the non-existent plot. Writing a script isn't like writing a novel, where you can bullshit your way through and pad your words with poems and lyrics. Fifty thousand words is a snap actually. I'm not sure if I can actually do a hundred page script. Screen play vs stage play vs tv script.ARGH! I don't know why I signed up for it.I foresee coffee by the gallons that will be drunk.*headdesk*Technorati Tags: Writing, Script Frenzy

Family That I Don't Mind Spending Time With
2008-03-30 07:28:00
My cousins and my siblings and I are close as we spent a lot of time together growing up when they came to visit the grandparents. It was fun having playmates roughly around the same age, to interact and fight with. As we grew older, most of us and especially me, started to drift away from the younger cousins because as a teenager, you didn't want to hang around kids and play kiddy games right? It just wouldn't be cool.In recent years, as each of the younger cousins entered their teens and twenties, I found it easy once again, to get along with them. May be it's just me finally looking past their childishness or just them maturing, what ever it is, I felt like it was back to the good old days, talking and laughing about everything and nothing. It was too bad that due to the demands of life

This Script Writing Thing Is Hard
2008-04-02 09:18:00
I've got a total of 3 lines of text, only to realise that I have to start all over again because I was using the wrong template. I'm finding it hard to feel motivated to start the writing. Maybe it's because I've never written a script before or it could just be me being sick and totally not in the mood to write. Also, the drugs make me so sleepy.Novel writing is so much easier.Sigh.Technorati Tags: Writing, Script Frenzy
