Mission Retail Therapy, Unsuccessful 2007-04-27 16:42:00 I've gain weight, most people may not realise how much but it's creating havoc with my wardrobe. My pants that were previously too loose to be worn without a belt, are now fitting and may even be a little tight. The rest of the pants are so tight that they look like they've been spray painted on me when I put them on. Those pants are not too bad since they're rather low rise but the jeans really cut into the tummy every time I sit down. On top of that, my t-shirts make my non-flat tummy look even more bloated. So what I'm trying to say with this long winded explanation is that, I NEED NEW CLOTHES!When I went to town for dinner with my colleagues earlier this week, I saw quite a number of flimsy, semi-transparent tops that caught my eye. However at that point of time, I was too focused on getting to the book store to consider most of them. They even have some pretty dresses in almost the same pattern, though I'm not sure when I'm going to get the chance to wear them. BL even show Read more:Mission

Bookworm At Heart 2007-04-26 15:57:00 It's not a secret that I read too much but did you ever wonder how much? Now you can! Just take a look at my GoodReads account. This is only a portion of the books that I had time to add today (books that I remember the plot that is). If I actually own every single of those books that I've read, there wouldn't be any space in my house for the people because it'll be just books, books, books! As it is, I have books in the cupboards, books at the foot of my bed and even more on the table. I even bought three new books yesterday, one of which I've already finished reading today and am currently re-reading. Cool huh?Sometimes I wish that I didn't read as fast or as often, so that I wouldn't get bored so easily but, oh well. I think I should dig out Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince after I'm done with these new books. You know, getting ready for the last book, getting into the hype and all that. I just have to figure out where to pre-order the 7th book.Technorati Tags: books Read more:Heart
Tea With Me 2007-05-04 14:40:00 I love the smell of freshly ground coffee and I absolutely love me a good mocha frappucino, though I can't have it very often due to it's laxative effects on my digestive system. So, I drink tea like a thirsty camel to get the same caffeine rush. I used to think that tea should be normal and plain, I'm addicted to Earl Grey. I could have pots and pots of it throughout the whole day but then, I have to pee every half an hour, with tea being a diuretic and all that. Now, I'm all for trying new types of tea and when CF and BL asked if I was interested in a chai latte since they were making it, I said HOT DAMN! YES! It took some experimentation before we got it right. I'm glad to say that the tea tasted as good as the one you can get from one of the yuppie coffee places, even though it was a little too sweet. How were we to know that the no-sugar-added vanilla powder already had aspartame in it so we didn't really need the sugar? Totally misleading I tell you.So now, I'm itching to g
Of All The Times To Have Low Batt On the Pod 2007-05-02 14:08:00 Dear fellow train passengers,I'm sure that all of you are tired and the only way to relax after a long day at work is to pretend that the train cabin belongs solely to you so that you can do anything you want.To the guy sitting on my right, I guess you must really, really like Fall Out Boy so much that you had to share it with the rest of the train by having the volume of your player all the way up. Though, I didn't think you realised that not all of us appreciate the musical suckiness capabilities of Pete 'Peengate' Wentz and his buddies, so hearing their music at ear blistering volumes was not fun. Especially when I'm trying to read. I wonder if you've heard this thing called headphones? If you'd been wearing one, (the good one I mean, the one that cancels noise from the outside so that you don't have to have your volume up so high) I wouldn't have to fight the urge to strangle you with your earphone cord.To the two guys on my left, what the hell dudes? Not only were you guy Read more:Times
Some Scary Shit Dude. 2007-05-05 12:19:00 This year seems to be the year for Malaysian horror movies. After so many years of not having any decent horror movies, their film industry came back with a bang.Earlier this morning, my sisters and I went to watch Jangan Pandang Belakang (Don't Look Back), which had collected RM$3.3 million in the first week. From what I've heard and read from the media, it seems scary and of course, the controvesy surrounding the movie even before it was done filming made it more interesting. We took the earliest show since middle sis had to go to school in the afternoon and also, we weren't brave enough watch it at night seeing that all three of us have very over-active imagination. Anyway, the plot was good, though the acting could have been better. The music and sound effects were very effective in scaring us, making us scream a few times. Although, the three of us will scream at almost everything. The first sighting of the ghost was very creepy. I mean, wouldn't it be scary to have something Read more:Scary
Shopping Anyone? 2007-05-09 14:17:00 Is it just me or does the Dashboard and the Create Post pages look weird? Hmmm....Anyway, after managing to squeeze into a pair of jeans only to find that it bites at the crotch when you sit down, I decided that it's time for a wardrobe overhaul. Most of my pants are tight around the thighs, waist and most importantly, they make my tummy bulge more than in really does. Besides the need for looser pants and jeans, I need to get some tops to go with these new pants/ jeans because both my sisters have a habit of wearing my clothes to school even if they do have even more clothes than I do and their shirts are nicer than mine too. Maybe, I'll even get some acessories to go with the new clothes too (read: more earrings).Besides the clothes, there are a few other things that I want to get:Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain - I've heard that it's a very interesting and funny book about the chef's memoir. I've seen the guy's show and of he writes exactly like the way he acts, it' Read more:Shopping

Motherly Love 2007-05-12 15:01:00 Do you know how hard it is to find for my mum? Jewellery is way beyond my budget, the hand bags were not appealing and ... I have no idea. The mall was filled with all sorts of flowers, fake and fresh, for Mother's Day. Every where I went, they had posters or adverts that said, Say Thank You To Mum. That got me thinking, why does it have to be just one day to show our appreciation, our thanks and our love to the woman who cared for us, who loves us unconditionally and provided the best for us? Why can't we show how much we love them and appreciate them every single day? They definitely deserve more than one day a year. So, go up to your mum and give her a hug. Tell her how much you love her and do this every day; not just on Mother's Day. It's worth to see the smile on her face. To all the mums out there, have the happiest Mother's Day.Technorati Tags: Daily Life
As much as I want to bitch and moan about my week,... 2007-05-10 16:58:00 As much as I want to bitch and moan about my week, I won't because that will just be the hormones talking. PMS is a little early and more pronounced this month.Anyway, I'm glad that it's almost the weekend and that can actually finally catch up on some badly needed sleep. Ok, so I've been staying up late this past week because I was reading but the book was too compelling for me to put it down. Even if I've already read the books twice or thrice, I don't know, fifteen times, it's still too good for me to put it down. I've been reading Merecedes Lackey's Mage Winds trilogy and her Mage Storm trilogy and I still have her Magic's trilogy, By The Sword and OwlSight in my to-read pile. This of course does not include the other books in that pile that are listed on my GoodReads page.I have been trying to things other than reading, like writing and doing the daily writing exercises on Wake Up Writing! but I just can't keep my focus. My concentration is shot to hell and all I want t
Ladies Night 2007-05-15 17:21:00 BL and I had fun hanging out at CF's house earlier today; watching DVDs, drinking Coke, petting CF's cats when they're not jumping around and giving me a scare and having lots and lots of pizza. We had A Bit Of Fry & Laurie and Garden State, courtesy of BL's DVD collection. Fry & Laurie were HILARIOUS! Hugh Laurie was sexy back then but I think that the laugh lines and the wrinkles that he has now makes him even more sexy. What can I say, I'm a little strange that way. Anyway like I said, they were absolutely hilarious. They're sketches are so much better than anything I've ever seen. You've got to love those Brits.Garden State was really good. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I'm not a fan of Zach Braff but Natalie Portman, HELL YEAH I'm a fan. Queen Amidala can do no wrong, even if she did shave her head bald but at least her bald head is definitely better than Britney Spears. I'm sure that most people will find Zach Braff cute but I feel that his lips are a di Read more:Night
Radioactive Arachnid 2007-05-14 17:42:00 Update: After a night's sleep and thinking about the movie, I've decided that the movie was just... Meh. Not that great but not sucky either. Even so, you can't deny the utter coolness of Venom. Though I wished Topher Grace was more jocky than the nerdy cool-person-wannabe that his character was. So yeah, not one of my favourites but like I said, I'm not much of a Spiderman fan in the first place. I'm more of the villain(ess) groupie. Go figure, when my idol is the one and only Darth Vader.I've just came back from watching Spiderman 3 with CF and BL. I've heard so many mixed reviews before I watched the movie and after watching it, I can't decide if I like it or not. Here's what I do like about the movie:Spoiler Alert!1) Venom/Eddy Brock's fangs 2) James Franco only in his boxers3) James Franco's smile4) James Franco's body *wipes drool of keyboard*5) James Franco's hair6) James Franco in all his glorious hotnessOk, so the best part of the movie was James Franco but then, I Read more:Radioactive
Commuting Murder 2007-05-16 14:57:00 There are two things that I take very seriously when I'm commuting; my reading and my music. So, when an idiot makes the bad judgement to pretend that the people sitting around him wouldn't mind his choice of song, food and other various idiotic things that he does, I have this overwhelming urge to wrap my hands around his thick neck and choke the miserable life out if him. The punk rocker wanna-be on my left promptly had his laptop out the moment he sat down and had his music on at full blast and started munching on an apple filled pastry. Usually, I'm able to tune out the outside noise but when you have Micheal Learns to Rock drowning out my Linkin Park and distracting me from my Kitchen Confidential, there's bound to be bloodshed. Fortunately for the punk rocker wanna-be with the questionable taste in music, he got off the train just as I was about to shove the bloody pastry up his nose and hit him repeatedly with the laptop until the music stops playing say something. It'll be Read more:Commuting

Lazy Sunday 2007-05-20 06:40:00 There's nothing much to do on a lazy Sunday
like this one. There's nothing good on TV either so I'm left with nothing to do but read. If you have yet to see my GoodReads page, here is what I have on my to-read pile:1) The Nasty Bits2) Angels Falls, finished on 20th May 20073) The Historian4) Pride & Prejudice5) Wicked6) By The SwordI've read part of The Nasty Bits but I think I'm going to leave it for a moment and step out of the kitchen to have a break in the romance genre. Nothing like a good romance novel to relax to. Recently, I've just finished Undead and Unpopular, the fifth book in Betsy the Vampire Queen series. The book characters are still snarky though I find that the story is a little too short. I wish that it was longer with more details going into the undead lives of the characters and adding in a little bit more action. I feel like the story ended too succinctly for my taste but the, I'm not the author of the book, am I? The last book of the series, Undead and Une
In Memory 2007-05-23 06:59:00 When an old friend called to inform me that one of our classmates had passed on after an accident while on holiday, I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe it, didn't want to believe but that doesn't make it was any less true. He was only 26, with his whole life in front of him.I haven't seen him in almost a decade since we graduated from high school and I still think of him as one of the class jokers. The 16 year old boy I remembered was a superb athlete, an amazing soccer player like the rest of the guys in my class and had so much potential. It's just so sad that he was taken away so tragically. What To Blog? 2007-05-21 20:16:00 Update: I've placed my pre-order for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. 21st July can't come fast enough.I'm not sure if anyone has realised this but I'm running out of topics to write about. Or more along the lines that I just don't know what to write about. Lately all I've talked about are on books, books and a little bit on the movies but mostly about books. That's because I'm a boring, boring person who does nothing but read. Actually, that's not true. It's just that lately, too many of the things running through my head and the things that I feel like I want to talk about my feelings, my worries and all those other emotional related things. I try to avoid those topics since one might read it a different way from what I intend it to be and that isn't good. Besides, they might think I'm more of a Drama Queen than I am. Seriously I'm not. It just that I exaggerate and complain a lot. So anyway, that leaves me with nothing

Ladies Day Out 2007-05-26 10:01:00 The Fat Sunshine Club organised a KTV outing today. I met up with them after my blood donation and listened to them belt out the songs with gusto. The karaoke session was followed by a walk through a flea market near the lounge. I bought a pair of pretty earrings in a shade of green that I don't have in my earrings collection. More shopping was done at the various malls and I got a pair of high-top sneakers, a baby-doll top and some second hand books. Shopping was interrupted by a good dinner and then more shopping before stopping at McDonald's for a break where I got these:In case you don't know what those are, those are Shrek ears that McD's is selling to raise funds for their children's charity. I just thought they were cute. Unlike my sister, I doubt I'll wear it to work. Not professional and I don't think the visitors would find it as cute as I do.Anyway, I think that the FSC should have more weekend activities since it's actually a lot of fun to socialise outside the work
Attack of the Acne 2007-05-29 08:52:00 The damn acne is back! I hate it! It's damn uncomfortable, it hurts and it makes my face all red and blotchy. Violence of the Lambs 2007-05-29 02:04:00 When you say sheep, one would immediately think of those cute little lambs with tasty meat, lovely wool sweaters and fluffy animals. Wait until you see the following trailer.Black Sheep is like 28 Days Later meets Lamb Chops Play-along. With Weta doing the effects, you know that you can't go wrong. Cool, almost scary, so I'll definitely want to watch it once it's released here. However, it will be rated R21 when it opens next month in this little island, which means that I won't be able to get the video locally. Damn the censorship regulation and shit. Sneak(ers) Show 2007-05-28 02:48:00 Here's some pictures of my new shoes! Of course, now I feel like getting at least one other hi-top in a solid colour, may be green. I shouldn't of course but it doesn't hurt to look.Anyway, the sneakers make me feel like I'm in high school again. Back then, they could only be white due to the school regulations. My first non-white sneakers were a nice bright shade of red. Despite the fact that my mum kept referring them to Ronald McDonald's shoes, I loved them very much. The soles have holes now and it's too slippery to wear them out so they've been retired. The only other pair of sneakers I have are cheap blue ones that I leave in the office, to wear to the lab when I go to work in flip flops. I've never had hi-tops before so wearing them feels strange and alien, though I know I'll get used to it soon.My mum calls sneakers cat shoes as the only brand of sneakers they had when she was in her teens was the Cat brand. I guess it fits because you can literally sneak up to people
Jack and Mac 2007-06-02 09:03:00 I caught POTC :At World's End earlier this morning and I don't understand why so many people said they didn't understand the whole movie at all? I thought it was fairly straight forward but then, I don't think that there are too many people out there who would obsessively watch the first two Pirates in anticipation of the third.Johnny Depp was as sexy and delicious as always, Orlando Bloom was still hot and Kiera Knightly was mightly annoying. Keith Richards appearance was the best bonus ever. If you think that Captain Jack was cool, Keith Richards as a pirate was a hundred fold cooler.Though, as much as I enjoyed the movie, I'm still not sure if I liked the way the the movie ended. Well actually, come to think about it, the disappointment I felt was because the series ended and there's nothing to look forward to. It's like LoTR all over again. No more Captain Jack! *sobs*Ah well, at least there's still Shrek 3, Transformers and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. They
A Fishy Day 2007-06-01 08:44:00 Since they opened the Underwater World all those years ago, I've never been there. In fact I haven't been to Sentosa in more than a decade. So when my first aunt asked if I wanted to go, I said YES and we did the touristy thing! We started the day early, which is a good thing because we got lost. We took the wrong tram and ended up at a beach on the other side of the island. At least, we had a chance to see the different beaches there. That way, I know which beaches to go to if I happen to convince my friends to come to Sentosa for the day. It was a very refreshing change for me as the air smelled like the sea and flowers, so different from the air in the city. Anyway, we finally arrived at the place and there was already a crowd. I was excited that there was a rock pool at the entrance where we could touch the exhibit. However, I was somewhat disgusted with the way the shark felt; leathery and slimy yet kind of cool. The other cool thing they had at the entrance was the interactive Read more:Fishy
Thai Beef Soup Craving 2007-06-04 08:41:00 Satisfied! I finally had my craving satiated and more at the Thaksin Beef Noodle outlet at Clementi. I was so full that for a moment, I was worried that CF would have to roll me out of the shop but fortunately, I could still stand. The rice was a little hard but the soup made up for it. A medium sized bowl of tasty soup with large, tender chunks of beef and tendon; heavenly. They offered tripe as well but I'm not a big fan of it. They were generous with the greens and they were rather fresh too, not boiled to death in hot water. I could go on and on about it but then, that would just be cruel to all of you who can't taste it for yourself any time soon.Technorati Tags: Food
It's All Anthony Bourdain's Fault! 2007-06-03 06:07:00 Google helped me find a site where they had Macbeth: Entire Play. I tried reading it but I couldn't get into it as I did with the book physically in my hand. It's damn long play too. So instead, I continued with The Nasty Bits. A few weeks break from the book really does wonders for my attention span for it. The down side of reading the book, especially when he talks about meat, is that it makes me hungry and gives the itch to cook. I don't have as much time to cook as I would love to and I don't usually have the ingredients to cook what ever it is I feel like cooking. I have a craving for Thai beef noodles but I haven't gotten around to satisfying that craving yet. I guess I could find the recipe, which I did (here), but I'm not sure if it's the same thing as the beef noodle soup. So I guess the better choice, and an easier one at that, is to go down to the nearest Thaksin Beef Noodle outlet and satiate this craving of mine.Technorati Tags: Books, Food Read more:Anthony

Things To Do On An Island Country (Or My Version of Come Visit Singapore Campaign) 2007-06-08 04:08:00 Too many of us say that Singapore
is boring, there's nothing to do besides shop and eat. Many months ago I would have agreed with that assessment but when I to Sentosa last week, I realised that there are so many things to do not only there but also in the main island that I think I should do at least every few months. I think that the beaches at Sentosa are very pretty when there aren't that many people on it. The (most probably imported) sands are white and they look soft enough to comfortable dig my toes in. I want to spend the whole day there, trying to catch a tan even though I will most probably be slathered in sunblock. There's the bicycles that I could rent so that I can explore the island at my own pace. It would be cool, no? There's also the trekking that I could do. I'm not much of a trekker due to my innate squirminess towards creepy crawlies but I'm curious enough about nature to walk through the trek if there Read more:Island

I'm looking forward to my trip on the week after next but at the same time, I look at the amount of work I want to accomplish in what's left of the week and in the next, I feel like panicking. So many new things to be done and now, I wish that I hadn't asked my aunt if she wanted to go on a trip with me but I think that if I don't go now, I won't be able to go on a holiday for a long while.I just finished The Nasty Bits today and I don't think I'm up to gushing all over it. It's good I can tell you that. Maybe, for his next book, I'll either get Bone in the Throat or A Cook's Tour. Though, I thinkI should finish all the books I have first before getting another one. Cooking (Mis)Adventures 2007-06-11 07:18:00 When I was in high school, I had to bake rock buns for one of the home economics classes. It was one of the simplest recipes ever but somehow, my rock buns didn't turn out as expected. They didn't have the rough texture that the buns were supposed to have. Instead, they look like large suji cookies. I didn't score well for that class which wasn't a surprise but I'm glad that the teacher didn't know about what happened when I brought it home or I would have definitely failed that class.I brought home the buns for my grandmother to try and I thought that it would a superb idea to heat it up in the microwave before serving them. I heated it up for a minute on high and almost immediately, the buns caught fire! I threw away the most burnt ones and served the not so burnt ones to my grandmother. She said that they were very hard, like rocks. She didn't finish the rest of the cookies so I kept them in a container that wasn't very air-tight and totally forgot about them.
