Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Berlin, Germany 2007-02-28 12:17:17 The news around town is that there will be a new Mercedes
-Benz Fashion
Week hosted in Berlin
for the Spring/Summer 2008 Collections. As usual, the event is produced by IMG Fashion. This will be Germany
’s first official Fashion Week event! As such, Berlin Fashion Week will serve as a “platform for international designers and fashion brands in one of Europe’s fashion capitals.”
Berlin is otherwise known for its being an ecclectic artist’s haven. I recently travelled to Berlin and was amazed by the diversity and importance of artistic representation in the city. Not only does the city have incredible history, but it also uses its art as a means of expression and definition beyond that history. Or rather, the historical background and the art go hand-in-hand. I, for one, think hosting a Fashion Week in Berlin is long overdue. Fashion is as much an art form as any other, and I think that it’s good to move beyond the traditional boundaries that enc
The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection: Kimberly Guilfoyle 2007-02-26 19:22:22 This is a little tidbit that I’m putting out there, seeing as I’m from San Francisco. Apparently Kimberly
Guilfoyle — currently a Fox News anchor and formerly the wife of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom — walked the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York earlier this month. She was wearing a dress for The HeartTruth
Red Dress Collection. The show was part of a program at the National Institutes of Health to promote awareness of heart disease in women. According to SFist.com, this is an issue close to Ms. Guilfoyle because it took the lives of both of her grandmothers.

National Wear Red Day 2007-02-02 09:34:56 Today is National
Wear Red Day — a day meant to promote awareness of women’s heart disease. “The Heart Truth” is a program of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
At 11 a.m. there will be a runway show (at “the Tent” in Bryant Park) at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for The Heart’s Truth Red Dress Collection featuring a host of “celebrated women” wearing dresses by several different top fashion designers.
Here is some more information from a press release put out by the National Institutes of Health:
“The 2007 program will bring together “celebrated women” from the performing arts, literature, fashion, business, food, media/journalism, and sports on one runway to support the issue and prompt women to take action to protect their heart health. They will be wearing Red Dresses created by the following top designers: Betse

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2007-01-02 17:22:24 The following is some press information put out for the upcoming Mercedes
-Benz Fashion
Week in New York:
“Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week epitomizes style, design and craftsmanship–the pillars of both high fashion and automobile leadership - and Mercedes-Benz is thrilled to return as title sponsor of this premiere event in New York. In addition, Mercedes-Benz committed to the title sponsorship in Miami and extended their title sponsorship in Los Angeles, creating a “”trifecta” of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks.
“Mercedes-Benz has created a dedicated website, www.mbusa.com/lifestyle, featuring exclusive Mercedes-Benz Fashion week content that will be continuously updated throughout the year with engaging multi-media features such as video highlights of runway shows and exclusive interviews with top designers. Calling for a Healthier Body Image in the Fashion Industry 2006-12-20 11:21:16 There’s been much talk in the news lately about concerns over models being severely underweight and the measures being taken to create a healthier image for the fashion industry. In September, the organizers of Madrid’s Fashion
Week instituted a ban on models with a BMI of less than 18. Now Italy has followed suit, banning models under the age of 16 and calling for a more “full-bodied” presence on the runways and catwalks.
Without meaning to beat an already dead horse, these initiatives are definitely a positive sign of a new awareness on the part of the fashion industry. Seeing as Milan is the fashion capital of the world, the message calling for a more positive and healthier image of models and the fashion industry in general will hopefully set the gears going. In other words, such a stance being taken by Milan could affect fashion industry centers such as Paris and New York.

Los Angeles Fashion Week: Kevan Hall Closes LA Fashion Week 2006-10-21 15:33:59 From the AP:
The main tent at Smashbox Studios was transformed into a starry midnight sky for the final show of Los AngelesFashion
Week, as designer Kevan Hall unveiled his ethereal collection of spring dresses.
Floaty and feminine creations defined the line, which included silver sequined pants, sparkly tops with kimono sleeves and flowing, floor-length gowns sure to be seen on Hollywood’s red carpets.
The former Halston designer already counts Renee Zellweger, Debra Messing and Felicity Huffman among his formalwear fans. Actresses Virginia Madsen and Kerry Washington are apparently fans, too: They had front-row seats for the Thursday night show.
Grammy-winning singer Jody Watley was the first to walk the runway. Wearing a creamy satin top and floor-skimming black skirt, she sang a refrain of her song “Aquarius” to open the show.
Then came a smattering of short shorts, which Hall paired with beaded blouses or cropped jackets. There were also slim-fitting slacks, inc Read more:Los Angeles

AP Report: Paris Fashion Week Kicks Off With No Plans to Ban Skinny Models 2006-10-03 21:24:01 The Paris
ready-to-wear shows kicked off on Sunday with the French fashion industry’s leading official saying he did not believe organizers should ban the use of models considered underweight.
Didier Grumbach, head of the Chambre Syndicale — the body that governs French fashion — said that he did not plan to follow in the footsteps of Spanish authorities in setting guidelines for the minimum weight of models who appear on the catwalks.
“I think it’s a non-issue. You don’t solve public health problems by regulating the size of models,” he told The Associated Press on Sunday. “You know, fashion is only the reflection of what is happening in society. It is not the cause.”
France’s Health Ministry recently announced it was setting up a working group on body image, with the aim of establishing a charter with advertisers banning the use of excessively thin models. Grumbach said he did not plan to take part in the government talks.

Debut of Kate Moss’ New Clothing Line at Top Shop 2007-05-06 23:07:51 Here is a new article from today’s LATimes on Kate Moss
’ clothing line launch.
A lot like Kate Moss: The inspiration for the model’s much-awaited cheap-chic line clearly is her own closet.
By Melissa Magsaysay, Times Staff Writer
UNLIKE the closets of most style celebrities, Kate Moss’ coveted wardrobe is not about her turn on the red carpet or her image peering out from the cover of almost every fashion magazine. For Moss it’s those moments in between all the glamour that are indeed her most glamorous ones.
From paparazzi snaps of her early days in quirky baby blue Adidas shell toes with tube socks to her recent fling with beaded Versace mini-dresses and Manolos, she has fascinated both the fashion industry and the style obsessed. She’s been a muse to designers including Alexander McQueen and Christopher Bailey at Burberry, photographer Mario Testino and endless wannabes on both sides of the Atlantic.
Now, with enormous fanfare, Moss is releasing he Read more:Clothing
