Like mommy like daughter. 2008-04-24 09:13:39 I just bought this FABULOUS dress at Target on sale for ONLY $11.48 (online for $45) which reminded me of a post DesignMom published a couple weeks ago about this darling designer of children's dresses-Ses Petites Mains. Their dresses would totally go with my new Issac Mizarahi find. Their prices are really high but what else would you expect from a small designer with a french name?
Another duty to neglect 2008-04-25 10:46:31 Shirking the small details makes more of a difference than you'd probably imagine. My fingernails are always black and chipped from some project I'm in the middle of completing and the balls of my feet are always rough and dirty from walking barefoot all day. To the average daily encounter I must look like I don't bathe for weeks. I've *never* had a professional manicure in my life let alone a pedicure. So that's why the theme of our bi-weekly MOPS meeting was right up my alley. They say pedicures and manicures are as much about relaxation as they are about the aesthetics of having nice-looking nails. See my introduction to the world of pampered rituals above (I'm wearing black) By the looks of things, some of us start earlier than others. How cute!
If I were three again.... 2008-04-25 09:35:55 I've always been a fan of leaving a child's room looking like a room rather than creating a tacky "theme". But looking at this space makes makes me want to change my mind and convert our upstairs office into another bedroom. Perhaps when Molly gets older. Although, it would be a sad day when you'd have to paint over the walls in lieu of some N'Sync-ish poster and blinking string lights. See how she did it here!
My new blog! 2008-04-28 21:50:48 I'm sorry for the lack of post today. But I do have a perfectly good excuse and that is....GROSGRAIN! My new blog devoted to sewing. Please, check it out. I have a fabulous post about a new reversible dress I designed. More cute than anything in Gymboree, I swear.See it at:
Not too modern not too disney 2008-04-29 09:44:41 Both lily and molly have had beautiful origami mobiles made just for them. However, I don't think I'll ever have it in me to ever make another one. They can be highly tedious and frustrating. I did find a couple really unique, completely disney-free mobiles sure to prompt guests to ask whereever you bought it. They look like something you might see at MOMA but really affordable. Something about me prefers the ugly duckling. Buy them here at Modern Nursery.
Look flirty while frying fish 2008-05-01 07:11:55 Love these totally feminine, totally flirty retro aprons. Who needs to lingerie when you have one of these in your closet, just whip up some dinner. Buy them here at Perdoozy.
Cardboard Safari 2008-04-30 08:51:56 Thought these were a modern, animal friendly way of getting the look of a bust. Added bonus- your kids can help you put them together. Buy them here at CardboardSafari

One more thing.... 2008-05-02 09:43:12 I sewed a new item for Grosgrain. See it here!
A month of outfits 2008-05-02 09:22:39 I loved this idea. Lucky Magazine has put together a month of outfits (I'm hoping for each issue). If you don't want to purchase the magazine you can view the images here! The entire month is put together in only 20 pieces of clothing. Very chic.
Bring life to your tired closet. 2008-05-02 09:14:49 On another fashion note, I thought I should mention Wardrobe Remix. A flickr group devoted to showing off your perfect outfit. Great to use for wardrobe inspiration. No commerical pics allowed, purely everyday people, flaunting everyday (and not so everyday) outfits. With over 8,000 members you're sure to find a photo to bring life to your tired
closet.
Paperdoll ME! 2008-05-04 11:46:57 OMG! I just found the cutest idea for a birthday party: personalized paper dolls of your child. I did my paper doll in Photoshop. This was the easiest way to whiteout the background, resize the dresses and add tabs. But if you don't have a photo editing software you can still make these. First, have your child stand in front of a white background. Mark where they stand on the floor with tape. Then mark where you are standing on the floor. For the basic doll, I'd recommend photographing your child in their undergarments or bathing suit as this looks more authentic. Have your child hold their arms out to make room for a myriad of outfits. Then, having your child stand in the same place, photograph them in a variety of outfits. Be sure that they stand in the same position. Print the doll and
FairIE Festival 2008-05-03 21:15:01 Today we attended the fairy festival (whoops....I mean fair"ie") all the way in Glen Rock, pretty much on the PA border. The weather was appropriately misty and grey. Lily wore her petal tutu but it was nothing compared to some of our fellow attendees.Even the dogs donned wings, I kid you not. Some donned "less" than others. Yuck. Aside from the fanatical christian protesters and cornfield parking lot, the atmosphere was appropriately whimsical, albeit hippy dippy, phish fan, wiccan loving. But the kids seemed to like dressing up in their hair wreaths and tissue wings. What child doesn't like the idea of fairies? Answer: the zealot 12-year olds holding the pickett signs. My sandbox is prettier than yours 2008-05-06 22:26:59 This makes me wish I threw out my old sand from last year and bought new sand. I found this while perusing pavers at Walmart yesterday. The bags were twice as much as the tan (aka boring) sand but I think at $8 per 20lb bag, $28 would fill a small sandbox. Not too bad. It came in vibrant hues of pink, purple, blue and green. All of which are guaranteed to stand out on your brand new carpet:)
Makeover your patio without hiring a contractor 2008-05-08 09:37:44 Since summer is around the corner I thought to mention these handy wood tiles good for concrete patios, balconies and in the yard. I like this idea because they are removable and portable so even renters can improve their space. There are many different kinds at many different price ranges. The most expensive have interlocking bottoms and come in a variety of patterns. There are a number of companies out there that sell these. But all of them ask for quotes which to me means 'out of my price range'. Just type in interlocking wood tiles in google to see the various sites.Ikea also sells something like this for a more affordable price at a little over $3 per square foot. However, they don't have interlocking bottoms so I don't know how you would keep them in place if you didn't have anything Read more:Makeover
Blowing my nose. 2008-05-08 07:58:11 Today is a sick day. But I promise I WILL push through and write a post.
My Mother's Day 2008-05-12 11:32:31 Despite my impending bronchitis, Mother's Day was pretty nice. We had a picnic at the park and bought some Sheetz take-out which I thought might be a little gross but actually turned out really good. I ordered a bacon melt on pretzel bread with honey mustard. Mmmm....pretzel bread. Lily gathered all the nearby dandelions and brought them to me as a bouquet. Within the next few hours my cold turned
Business cards for moms! 2008-05-12 11:07:57 Have any of your seen that article that claims SAHMs should earn a salary of over $100K a year. Of course, I'm all for that but for such a highly paid position one should at least have some sort of calling card. Right? I thought this was THE neatest idea for moms....Playdate Cards....which to me seem more like business cards for moms. Just hand them out whenever you meet a new friend. Makes sense Read more:Business
A substantial headphone without the ugly bulk 2008-05-14 09:14:18 Found the most delicious stripey headphones. Like the large retro kind you used to wear at the library in the listening booths but more updated and prettier. The headphones are manufactured by ZUMREED. It has 15 different colors and can be folded while not in use. The recommended price in Korea is 38,000 Won (approx US$37). Since they are primarily sold in Japan they are hard to find even on the i
99 red luftballoons 2008-05-13 11:15:29 I'm really debating whether or not to combine lily and molly's birthdays. They are close enough so that the decision becomes rather difficult- almost exactly one month. I don't think most people would come to one party and then another in three weeks. And hey, my birthday is in there too! I could make Molly's one week early and lily's one week late so they weren't as close together. Ugh. I don't k
Charming on so many levels 2008-05-17 22:02:35 The girls and I watched Balloon rouge, Le (The Red Balloon) today- a french movie made in 1956 about a boy and the red balloon that befriends him. Although it's made half a century ago in a foreign country it transcends language as there is very little dialog. It's quite charming and if you have Comcast Cable I recommend watching it on IFC Films on Demand. Read more:levels
RUN don't walk to Tarjay 2008-05-17 21:59:12 Just bought these delightful Issac Mizrahi dresses online. Better yet, I bought them on sale, got free shipping and used a $5 off coupon (love coupon codes). I figure I better snatch them up while I still can. I don't know what I'm going to spend my money on after he leaves. Maybe I'll make MY own clothes too.
Lastly Lost 2008-05-16 10:16:29 On a personal nerdy note, LOST! Need I say more. I've never mentioned my obsession before but now is a good time with the finale airing in two weeks. And I can say, FINALLY, finally Jack knows about Claire. Great! Talk about pleasure delaying. The wait was almost worth the look on his face when he realized everything. They say there will be one significant death in the finale. But after Charlie I
Behind the bathroom curtain 2008-05-16 09:44:28 Found this adorable blog dedicated to sharing your child's artwork, writing, whatever. Users are free to comment on the artwork and as any parent knows, kids LOVE feedback. The creator, Brian, found the inspiration for the site in a box full of his old schoolwork and drawings that his parents had kept over the years. Poring over all the old papers, Brian and his wife were entertained by how bizar Read more:bathroom
Wholesome family fun 2008-05-20 10:04:45 I always liked the idea of family entertainment like in The Royal Tenenbaums- Where the children past their time by putting on plays, playing tennis, breeding dalmation mice, the usual pre-tv past times. For those of you who feel the same, here's a cheap toy for encouraging creativity. Good for puppet theater (human theater to0). Buy it here at Carton Chic.
This flickr group takes the cake....literally. 2008-05-22 09:52:57 For those of you who have ever taken on the task of a multi-layered cake or had the pleasure to try their hand at fondant you HAVE to check out flickr's Cake Fun group. Pictured right is a cake I made for Lily's first birthday. I stayed up until 3am to finish, but totally worth it. Molly's first birthday is coming up pretty soon and I plan on making her cake as well. This site is great for inspira Read more:literally
No more Dora, Disney or Diego Flip Flops!! 2008-05-21 10:19:55 While dressing Lily for one of my Grosgrain posts I couldn't find any shoes that I thought were appropriate for what she was wearing- dressy but not glossy. I was looking for a matte finish ballet flat. I looked everywhere, Payless, walmart, the children's place, gymboree, even.....jcrew (ridiculously over priced). Finally I found what I was looking for at Target. You'd think more stores would car Read more:Disney
