LA Biz Ladies Meet-Up
2008-04-19 15:00:00
I met some seriously stylish women at the Design Sponge Biz Ladies Meet-Up last Wednesday. It was truly a delightful evening, filled with mini-cups, amazing furniture, and informative speakers. To me being in L.A. is like being on a t.v. show. Everyone is really pulled together (hair, make-up, clothes) and looks familiar. Like you've seen them on a reality show or they were an extra on The Hills.Picture taken by Miss FruitflyGrace (in the blue sundress) gave us a quick presentation on how to market your indie business.Picture taken by Miss FruitflyBillie and Tootie from Reform School gave us the 411 on their store and how they find designers and artist.Picture taken by Miss FruitflyLindsay Horstman from Smith Barney recommended the book On My Own Two Feet and told us to start saving.Pic

There was a lot going on yesterday: Taxes, Biz Ladies Meet-up, and an article for indiefixx.com. Working on taxes left me brain dead for most of the night and not worth mentioning until next year. The Biz Ladies Meet-up was awesome and not just for the insane amount of cup cakes but more on that later. I wrote an article for Indie Fixx that I'm pretty happy about, I'll post a link when it's published. Three international crafters were interviewed and many more volunteered to help me. I'm going to post everyone's product pictures for the rest of the month so we can all network and help each other out. Right? I hope you enjoy it.Here's a sneak peak at one article.I am in complete awe of U.K. crafter, Laura Howard . The top selling etsy store owner carries all kinds of goodies, from

Atlanta Paint by Numbers
2008-04-12 21:50:00
Images owned by Miss Fruitfly LLCWe have finally finished our Paint by Numbers !!! WoooHoo!Made a few changes for the better. The color scheme has changed and we decided to use oil paint pens instead of a traditional brush and paint. Finding good quality paint wasn't as easy as I thought it would be and it took forever to find. After testing ever kind of paint you could imagine, we stumbled upon paint pens. Paint Pens, who knew? It's really easy to use, no clean up, and the end result is amazing. We also changed the name from Paint by Numbers to Paint it Yourself. This item is currently available on Etsy.com

No Nuts Granola Recipe
2008-04-08 01:28:00
Photographed by Miss Fruitfly Welcome to Mad Crafty Monday Night (PST). Humm.Mr. Fruitfly and I are slowly trying to change our eating habits. To us, breakfast is like it was in old Tom 'n' Jerry cartoons; pancakes, grits, bacon and cheese, lots of cheese. In reality it looks like the picture above. No we're not 80, we just want to live to be 80. (In my head someone screams "OLD" while pointing) This is a nut allergy safe recipe, though the pumpkin and sunflower seeds keep it pretty nutty-esq. It turned out great and will keep you energized all morning. Keep a jar by your desk for a little mid-afternoon snacky -poo.Pre-heat oven 255 degrees (slow and steady wins the race)3 Cups Old Fashion Oats (quick cooking oatmeal doesn't crisp well)1/2 Cup Wheat Germ1/2 Tablespoon Salt1 Cup

Photograph from Two Straight LinesI've been searching for vintage glass jars to store flour, coffee, and sugar. Ebay is always a good first choice but this weekend while I was at Target I saw the above jars. Two Straight Lines' blog featured them today as terrariums projects for kids. Might have to try that out.

Photographer Walter Schels has a new exhibition Life Before Death at the Wellcome Collection. The exhibit consists of before and after photographs of terminally ill patients. With the help of his partner, Beate Lakotta, interviews were recorded for each person. It's beautifully done and worth a visit if you live in London or hit this link. Star Trek
2008-03-20 23:14:00
Photos from Caren Golden Fine ArtI have to admit that upon learning a new Star Trek movie was coming out that would include Spock but no Kirk, I was pissed. I'm ol' G (old Generation) when it comes to Star Trek (Mr. Fruitfly is all about Next Gen, of course). Where would the whole series be without Captain Kirk? Show the Captain some respect!I'm not the only one who believes in showing a little respect where it's due. Devorah Sperber made the most insane homage to the greatest science fiction show ever made. It's sick. The art installation is made using 25,ooo plastic beads and mono filament for each character. She also did some pieces using spools of thread. Insane! If you live in N.Y, please go see Mirror Universe at the Caren Golden Fine Art March 20- April 26.Photo from Caren Gol

Yarn Bombing?
2008-04-20 16:19:00
Photograph from Yarnbombing.comA book which will be published in 2009 called Yarn Bombing : The Art of Knit Graffiti is taking submissions for patterns. What's yarn bombing? Fiber lovers knitt or crochet art pieces to light post, parking meters, or street signs. Anywhere you would find traditional graffiti but with a granny vibe. If you don't knit or crochet why not try moss graffiti...seriously.Related articlesKnittas: New York Gangsta Graffiti Knitters [via Zemanta]Knitting public art [via Zemanta]Masquerade: Our New FavoriteInhabitat: Knitta Please
