Spring Garden Tour 2008-04-18 20:09:00 UPDATED TO ADD:Okay, so a lot of you know I live in Alabama and obviously, I don't venture North of the Mason-Dixon much. I forget that some of you darlin' girls are still rockin' your parkas and scarves in May instead of planting a spring flower bed. In the interest of making sure everyone can participate on our Garden
Tour, the date is changing to JUNE 13th. The button will be updated soon but for now consider this a heads up. Also, I want to give a huge thanks to BooMama for deferring her own Garden Tour to this one. Just one more reason why we love her so....:) There are lots of things I love about Spring
. Blooming dogwoods dancing in the breeze. Lawnmowers and the smell of freshly-cut grass. Birds singing and twittering about. Tulips pushing their way through the ground. And most
Is Too Much Finally Enough? 2008-04-17 10:27:00 Interesting article at FoxNews today about Oprah and her over-the-top peddling of New Age Philosophy. I was personally encouraged to find that perhaps, even in the eyes of the world, she has finally gone too far.A quote I heard from her own mouth last week in a video interview?"God is a Feeling, not a Being."Oh girl, how DO you dodge the lightning? And I shall stop right there because the soap box is tall and my stay there would be long. And on to a much more fun topic, check back later for an announcement about the Spring Garden Tour I'm hosting in May!!P.S. While I'm whining, can someone please tell me why the Dove Awards are on Wednesday night? Read more:Enough

No, You Shut Up! 2008-04-15 22:27:00 Don't hate me when I tell you I got these adorable things on clearance for $15 yesterday at one of my favorite shoe stores in Georgia. The owners are the most hateful people you've ever met but, because they have the greatest dept. store shoes significantly below retail, you just find yourself sucking it up and going back anyway. I can't even tell you how excited I was to wear these today with my jeans. My toes almost froze off but I could have cared less! That's all!! *squeal*
Deak'd 2008-04-15 20:29:00 What in the world is Deak'd do you ask?Well, that would be what happens when one of your deacons does something cruel and heartless to his preacher's wife. Not only has this happened before, but this weekend I found myself the victim once again. Not by the same deacon, mind you. Seems we have an entire board full of devilish dudes just achin' for a laugh at my expense.Saturday started out innocently enough. I cooked a typical weekend breakfast of biscuits and gravy, bacon, and eggs. The news called for a warm breeze and sunny skies, (not at all like the weather Friday) so Luke and I called a family work day to clean out the flower beds. Now, on a normal day I would make some attempt at straightening the kitchen but since our time outside was limited, I left all the dirty dishes figuring I co
A Little Preview.... 2008-04-14 10:01:00 ....Of what is coming up this week!1. A Spring Garden Tour!! Oh this is going to be fun....2. Introducing a New Column at Christian Women Online Magazine...3. And I've been punk'd Deak'd.....again! Is revenge appropriate for a preacher's wife? Should that be our next survey? Now I've got to get a couple of writing deadlines under my belt and then I'll be back to fill in the blanks...Have a great Monday! Read more:Preview

It's Gonna Be A Bright, Bright Sunshiny Day....(Or Not) 2008-04-11 20:16:00 Since the recent tornadoes in our community, I can tell you that the usual dread I experience when a warning is issued has been replaced with sheer terror. Apparently, I live in quite the tornado alley. The kids were released early from school today because a line of storms was moving our way. It wasn't even raining when the boys got home so I wasn't too concerned. Number Two was supposed to go to a sleepover so I fed him a snack, got his things together, and left to take him to his friend's house. It was only sprinkling.I stopped in a dollar store not even a mile from my house because a granola bar craving hit me that just wasn't going away. It was barely drizzling when we went in but within three minutes it got ugly. The clerk took a phone call and immediately began yelling, "Lock the doo Read more:Bright
Survey: Are You Called With Hubby? 2008-04-10 09:09:00 Not long ago I had an interesting conversation with a woman whose husband had enrolled in seminary to prepare for ministry. “He can take classes all he wants but I didn’t sign up for the preacher’s wife thing.” Since she didn’t believe her husband would actually follow through, she went on to tell me she planned on humoring him until the day his calling affected her. And if that day ever came? Well, she’d just cross that bridge when she came to it.In the same span of time, I attended a ministry wife conference where there was a panel discussion at the end. Five women, each in different seasons of life and ministry, lined across the stage. The question was asked, "What is one of the most difficult things you deal with in ministry?"I'll never forget the youngest woman's resp Read more:Hubby
Perhaps I Should Look Into Alternative Forms of Entertainment 2008-04-09 10:32:00 I don't know how you moms of toddlers feel about Yo Gabba Gabba. I'm personally a little intrigued with DJ Lance. He's like a Raj throwback from the days of 'What's Happening'. However, something about this show brings out the inner beast in The Girl. She gets the Pavlov Dog reaction everytime it comes on that, for lack of better words, freaks me out. The Girl normally watches her morning shows with wonder and delight, but here's what I heard this morning when DJ Lance introduced himself as 'Your Friend':"I am NOT your friend you stinkin' weirdo. Get a new outfit!" (Don't you love how she went straight for the fashion jugular?)And when he dared introduce the Dancy Dance:"You think YOU know how to Dancy Dance like crazy? I'll show you crazy!"I'll show you crazy, indeed. Tomorrow we ar Read more:Alternative

Happy Anniversary, Baby. I've Got You On My Miiiinnnndddd..... 2008-04-07 22:47:00 I am so excited to tell you that today Luke and I are celebrating 18 years of marriage. How about a big 'yay' for us but an enormous 'YAY' for God! I've shared the story of our restored relationship before here. But today, I would like to tell you about the beginnings of Us. This is the story of how we met or, more eloquently titled, "The Parking Lot Romance". I sense you're getting nervous. I promise this post is G-Rated. Luke is almost four years my senior so as teenagers, I knew who he was but that was all. Except that he was hot. Yes, I knew that, too. My best friend dated Luke's best friend and they were determined that we should go out. I was secretly thrilled over the idea but back in the good 'ole days, believe it or not, there was still some mystery in the dating process. A girl w Read more:Anniversary

Everything's Funnier After 1 a.m. 2008-04-07 21:17:00 UPDATED: Here's a group shot...Aren't those some fine lookin' ladies??I've just returned from my church's annual women's retreat to the Smoky Mountains and I have but one word for you:Exhausted. However, there is no amount of tired that can trump the ridiculously great experience of a weekend with God and 50 of your closest girlfriends. I don't know that I have ever laughed as hard over things that were any less funny than I did Saturday night.I'll be recapping as soon as I get some pictures from our resident photographer, Cheryl, but for now I just wanted to make an appearance in case you are really sick of looking at 'How to Clean Your Shower'.To the girls who went on the retreat: Oh, how I adore you. As If I Needed To Explain Why I Don't Home School 2008-03-31 23:49:00 Today was the beginning of the end. The end of what you ask? The end of the season of my life in which I am the mom of a pre-schooler. Yes, girls. My precious, darlin' baby daughter is on her way to school this fall. My MOPS days are almost over. I would love to tell you that Kindergarten registration was today. In fact, it was last week and somehow I missed the huge, glaring sign in front of the elementary school that read, "KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION". And lest you give me the benefit of the doubt for not seeing it, I should also say the sign is less than 100 yards from my front door. I'm nothing if not observant. So anyway, when I discovered I had missed the O-Ficial Kindergarten registration I stopped by the school office to see when make-up day for the Loser Moms was scheduled. I picke Read more:School
Family Movie Night 2008-03-29 16:41:00 I'm not at all ashamed to tell you that when it comes to tv and movie viewing, my kids are totally sheltered. To give you an example, my 12-year-old had a birthday party a couple weeks back where 14 of his closest friends came to the house after school. (And for those of you who asked, I ended up getting a $4 cake off the Day Old rack at Walmart after I couldn't get the ice cream one I wanted. Figured there was no reason to spend a fortune if he didn't even like it! And then, after everyone was gone except for the Smith Brothers, I realized I'd forgotten to even serve the thing. I have no idea why my almost teenager didn't want to wear a pointy hat and blow out birthday candles but hey, I let him have his way on his b-day. So anyway, when I finally got the plastic container of staleness ou Read more:Family

Quick Question 2008-03-28 14:44:00 Hello girls!I'm continuing to work on my Married to the Ministry book and something has come up that I'm curious about. So a quick question....If you are married to a pastor, etc., do you feel he has ever put pressure on you to 'behave' or to be someone you are not for the sake of appearances? (Much in the same way we may sometimes put undue pressure on our pk's) If you are not married to a pastor, have you ever witnessed or been made aware of your own ministers criticizing/belittling their wives? I can't really say why I ask this other than this is something I've not considered much because it is outside my experience. Looking forward to what you may have to say! Read more:Question

Yay Me! 2008-03-28 12:28:00 I can only pop in for a second but I simply have to share what wonderful advancements I've made into my To Do List!!1. I just finished my taxes!!! They are filed and I am proud to say that, even though we are self-employed ministers, we broke even. Praise Jesus who is head of all rulers, principalities, and governmental agencies!2. I've finished the itinerary/info packs for our women's retreat next weekend.3. My living room is vacuumed.4. I was SHOWERED AND DRESSED AND MAKEUP'd by 10:00 a.m.5. Even though I went running this morning!6. During the walking part of my running, me and Jesus had some prep time for the study sessions for the aforementioned retreat.7. Did I mention I had a shower before lunch? And now all that's left is to....1. Wash ball uniforms.2. And lots more clothes.3. Load

Wanna Laugh 'Til You Hurt? 2008-03-26 15:17:00 This guy is a Christian comedian named Tim Hawkins. I'm rolling over this bit about praying with our kids. We were just talking about the 'if I should die' prayer in parenting class the other night, so guys, this one is for you!
The WalMart? It is mocking me..... 2008-03-25 06:52:00 I think it's fair to say I've established that I do not love WalMart.I know. *GASP*There was the whole incident about them no longer carrying my 100 Calorie Packs, and my yogurt, and my Mr. Clean sponges. And then there will always be the time I had to fight my way through the square dancing competition. And now, as if all that weren't enough, they committed the ultimate birthday sin.All my son had asked for was an ice cream cake for his 12th birthday party. The kid isn't demanding in the least so of all things I wanted to give him, the specific cake he'd asked for was top of the list. Since we are a bit limited on purveyors of this delicacy in my little town in Alabama, Walmart was the only option. I had seen these cakes in the case 3 days before but didn't buy one because I wanted it to
Once Upon A Time..... 2008-03-22 20:31:00 Once upon a time in a land far south of the Mason-Dixon, there was a girl who liked to write stories. Imagine her delight when one of those stories actually ended up in a REAL LIVE BOOK!Yes, ma'am! One of my tales is included in the Life Savors anthology. There is also a companion book called Life Savors for Women. Mine is in the general volume. I have no idea what page as I haven't actually seen the book yet. I know that it is currently available at Amazon and CBD but am told it is also being sold by major retailers whose identities are still a mystery.I am nothing if not a bundle of information.Y'all keep your eyes out for it and let me know if you see it anywhere. And hey, it'd be great if you bought it, too. FYI, Linda Crow of 2nd Cup of Coffee and Darlene Schacht are also contributors
Reflections on Good Friday 2008-03-21 15:19:00 Her prayer was simple."Dear God,Thank you for my friends who have come to visit me today. I pray that you would help me stay strong. I know I make mistakes but you are there to help me through them. God, I ask that my daughters would follow my ways. Thank you for being in my life. I am blessed every day. Amen."This prayer could have come from any one of us and yet this one was humbly voiced by Josephine - a recovering, resurrected, and redeemed drug addict. I had the joy of visiting with her on Monday for the first time in eight months.I first met Josephine last year in Montgomery, Alabama when our church ministered in her housing project. We had been praying about reaching the mothers of the children that came for our Back Yard Bible Club and came up with offering first dibs on new, donat Read more:Friday

Kick Your Shoes Off And Stay Awhile.... 2008-04-19 19:56:00 So I'm getting ready to go out today and go to the closet to get my shoes. I scanned the floor, looked in my shoe organizer, and realized they both looked strangely bare.I'm a world class shoe-kicker-off'er so I went to the place where I spend the most time sitting in the house - a makeshift desk set up behind the sofa so I can write and not feel I'm neglecting my family. After running my hands under my little work space, I came up with this:(Don't judge me on the dust bunnies or the Nerf dart, 'kay?)And no, they weren't lined up this neatly when I found them. I didn't bother to mop but I sure didn't want you to see the disarray that was my under-the-desk shoe collection. (Be sure you notice The Shoes are among the pile.)After I took this picture, I was forced to come to grips with my affe
Things You Never Wanted To Know 2008-04-22 13:22:00 Lindsee tagged me for Seven Random Things and, true to form, I've waited way to long to holla back (am I too old to pull off Gwen?) at one of the most darlin' little college girls I've never met. (Never met yet I should add...San Antonio had better watch out!) So here's to you, Lindsee! May your hair retain that glossy lustre and your shoe collection increase one hundred fold.(It was meant for me to do this today. I JUST got an email with the same tag from Robyn at 3 Girls Mom. So here's for you, too, my Alabama friend! :)Here's my current list of randomness in, you guessed it, no particular order....1. I was a rockstar for a day!Apparently Boomama and I had the same idea about hosting a Garden/Spring Tour thing. When I found out she'd thought about doing one too I had a flash back from hi
The Siesta Fiesta Blog 2008-04-21 21:38:00 My friends Patty and Kim have created a Siesta Fiesta
Blog for those attending the LPM event in August. I am so excited they've done this so we can get an idea of who to look for and what to look forward to when we get there! I know a lot of you have made mention of going, but y'all know I can't hold two thoughts in my head at one time. So tell me, do I get to meet you in San Antonio??
Because we can only eat so many nachos dipped in cheese.. 2008-04-22 17:53:00 Okay, girls. I need help. Ball season is full on and I am completely stumped as to what I can cook that will accommodate different dinner shifts. I don't want the kids eating at the ballfield every night so I would LOVE it if you would share your favorite crock pot, one pot, or casserole recipes with me. Your reward for being so kind? Hopefully you'll find a new dish to add to your own menu this summer! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Overheard..... 2008-04-24 00:09:00 Just suppose my 5-year-old daughter's name is Sally Jane and then imagine my utter disbelief at hearing her introduce herself to another little girl at the ballfield last night when she didn't think I was listening:SJ: Hi. My name is Sally. What is your name?Other girl: Emma.SJ: Well, my name is Sally. My nickname is Jane. And if you are wondering what color my hair is? *Hair swish* It's blonde but actually it looks more like honey. Oh.My. Gosh?Surprisingly, precious Emma was non-plussed by Miss Honey Hair but give it a few years and I'm scared to death that little display will be met with a YouTubed whoopin'. If her mom and dad don't get to her first. And can I just ask you? Are little girls prissier than they ever used to be or am I just now noticing since I've been busy raising three bo
