Patent pooling to access patented knowledge for innovation
2008-04-15 21:55:00
A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state to an inventor or his assignee for a fixed period of time in exchange for a disclosure of an invention.Patent pool is a consortium of two or more companies agreeing to cross-license patents relating to particular technology. This is mainly done to save time and money of the patentees and licenses to relax the legal complications. Patent pool is a hot debate. This helps to keep alive the non exclusive quality of knowledge and information. The more people use a technology or product its value is incremented.Patented knowledge is protected by Patent rights which clearly forbid it from being used easily and widely. Until the Patent owner eases the restriction of the exclusive rights acquired by him/her the product or technology is far f

Giving out custom RSS from your Drupal Site
2008-04-02 22:18:00
Recently I ran into a problem where by I had to give out RSS of the Forum only from a DRUPAL 5 site, as the website was forum centered but it had blogs also. So when I first used the default rss.xml like () it gave out all the update not only the updated of the Forum that I wanted. I even tried another RSS source but it also had the same output. So problem is: giving out RSS of Forum only, how to do that? Then I was suggested to use the views module, I said to myself views how will it do that? But I was not using the "Arguments" part of views there was the trick. Read the steps below if you want to do it yourself as well:Assumed you have views installed, login as the adminstrator (user1) or user with access to edit views.Goto Administer>>(under Site Buliding) Views>>AddIn the new view conf

5 Notable April Fools Gags of 2008
2008-04-01 09:50:00
This year April Fools had some great pranks and gags to offer, here are 5 of them which I liked. Some are even believable I guess:Google+ Virgin Media = Virgle --- are sending people to live in MARS,“Here's the Virgle Pioneer pitch: Things will get better. Eventually. Sure, the work will be hard, the broadband rates low, the commodes decidedly open source, and yes, your life might be extinguished in a fiery instant of catastrophic technological malfunction. But your enriched descendants will appreciate your sacrifice, which should render worthwhile your choice to spend the rest of your (perhaps radically foreshortened) life in deprivation and uncertainty.”They (two co-founders of Google) have even put a convincing 1 minute youtube video about it, see it here. Google had other gags as w

2008-03-12 00:45:00
Have you ever thought of owning an aquarium? If yes and you thought who would go through all the hassle then here is an insiders guide to keeping fish as a pet. Now you can have a pet without hair, fur and without other problems associated with a furry friend. Imagine your room with a fish tank, watching the fish swim, how soothing and energizing you are feeling. An initial setup will cost you somewhere around Rs. 5 thousand or above with the cost of a tank, other accessories and some fish. The standard and popular tank sizes in Kathmandu are 12*15*30 cubic inches, 12*15*48 cubic inches, 12*18*48 cubic inches etc. A tank will gulp up twenty five or above liters of water as per its size. In the yesteryears, people used to build custom tanks with metal angles to support the glass but now pre

DrupalModules.com must for every Drupal user
2008-03-10 00:09:00
Two days back surfing through drupalsites.net I stumbled upon Drupal Modules.com. Using Drupal for past 1 year + I was consistently in search of a website that reviewed Drupal modules except of the information given in the download page or the module’s page at Drupal.org. To my happy surprise after finding (A site to test Drupal themes in live environment with content), I clicked thru this astounding website. It is owned and operated by John Forsythe and designed by Blamcast. With a clean and straight forward design this site effectively lists the 7 hundred plus Drupal modules to be reviewed and rated on 4 criteria F,R,E and D = Features, Reliability, Ease of Use and Documentation in a scale of 1 to 5. The rating guide at -rating-guidelines gives you the instructions on how to rate the mo

Drupal Experience Sharing at Prime College
2008-02-23 21:27:00
Being associated with Prime College from the past 6 years I’ve had good and ok memories attached with my college. Yesterday (23rd Feb 2008) after being postponed from an earlier date I conducted an experience sharing session at my colleges’ lab. With 21 participants mainly from the current BIM 7th Semester and some from BIM 5th semester as well the experience sharing went ok. Why ok, because I couldn’t deliver what I had planned for and also because of the following things. The load shedding problem everyone is facing in our country which is said to be the home of 2nd largest water resource . :-(The restrictive network environment of our college (it’s a must as it’s open to all students.)The slow computers (well they had just been upgraded some months back but still…)Apache bein

CCPlus opening up new horizons?
2008-01-20 05:17:00
CCPlus or Creative Commons plus is a new facilitation of license available in the Creative Commons license set. It aims to provide more permission beyond any standard CC License. Lets demystify the jargon, CCPlus (not C++ ) has a basic idea to use a CC license appended with another agreement that provided “more permission”. For some people it would be like gazing at a newspaper advert which consists of that * (conditions apply) after the very catchy line. The official Creative Commons website’s (www.creativecommons.org) wiki has a note that reads “NOTE: Above, the CC license should link to the human deed and the generic commercial license would link to a place to get a commercial license for a work. The COMMERCIAL LICENSE is generic and should be tailored for specific uses with s

Manager in a Minute, possible!!!
2008-01-16 06:44:00
Andrew Grove, CEO of Intel states “Just as you would not permit a fellow employee to steal a piece of office equipment, you shouldn't let anyone walk away with the time of his fellow managers.” A manager’s job has always been considered a very hard job which is time taking and attention demanding to accomplish but this book claims it can be done in and around 1 minute. The book is titled the one minute manager and it states to have the trademark of: 01 symbol as seen in the cover. The book is inked by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson. Blanchard is the president of Blanchard training and development Inc (BTD). Dr. John Spencer is the chairman of Candle Communications Corporations. There remains no doubt that the dynamic duo is incapable of writing a book on management. It is

Jal’s Boondh will win your heart drop by drop
2007-12-22 23:13:00
After a long wait of four years Jal have finally come up with their new album “Boondh – A drop of Jal”. As in “Aadat” this collection also has 12 songs but in place of two instrumental tracks as of Aadat, Boondh has two slow version numbers at the end. Let’s scrutinize what the album in total has to offer to the buyer. Everyone know blue and water is connected but Mr. Murtaza Naiz has taken it to new heights with the cover design, mainly the front cover is exuberant with water lit candle (See Picture). The trio also looks trendy with short hair and something to say on their own about the album in the inlays. A good thing is that the cover has credited all people involved in the making of this album The album kicks off with “Sajni” vocalized by th

Santa make CSS fully Programmable
2007-12-15 21:36:00
Christmas is around 10 days away, here is my wish to Santa .Dear Santa,Sometimes I think why is Cascading Style Sheet(CSS) not fully programmable like other programming languages? I'll be glad if this Christmas you can gift us (whole web designing and programming fraternity) something like CSS 2.0 or CSS++. That will largely simplify the way we do CSS. I hope you devise someting that will make all the webpages we develop look same in all the browers though it is Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape and we don't ever have to use< !--[if IE] >< type="text/css" media="all"> @import "/css/style_ie.css";< /style >< ![endif]-- >.I also wish if this:#left_side { margin-top: 10px; float: left; width: 200px; background: #FCD8A8 url('images/side_bg.gif') bottom left repeat-x;}#right_si

After web-publishing the drupal how to at Drupal Nepal, FOSS Nepal and around a dozen Drupal related sites I had no idea that it'll be reviewed like below by CMSwire.com that provides news, reviews and resources on Content Management System (CMS). Feb 10, 2007 – In search of petrol as my motorbike’s fuel status was in critical condition I reached a petrol pump. It was not a very good sight (See above picture) as at least I was behind 1 hundred or so motorbikes. After a long wait of around 2 hours I got my chance to fill valued liquid which was just enough for me for the next 2 week at the maximum.May 27, 2008 - We are in the queue of m
