Litany Against Fear
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.Only I will remain-from Frank Herbert's Dune novel

Study, eat, study, sleep, study
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Yeah I've been studying. Going through surgery topics. Sleep, study, eat, study, bathroom, study, sleep, study, google news, e-mail and blog, study, bathroom, sleep! My life is becoming very mundane. I'm gonna chain myself to the desk sometime cause that way I'll get more studying done.I ran into an interesting transcript on CNN with Keith Ellision and his reaction to Virgil Goode's biased comments. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0612/21/sitroom.02.html read and decide for yourself. No doubt "Ignocrisy".You all know what's going on in Darfur right? If not click this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/5316306.stmLast week I was requested by an N.G.O. to help do a presentation on hand washing awareness for grade school kids (5th to 8th grade) in one of the best English medium schools in Bangladesh. More on that on some subsequent blog. Maybe.I added a weekly and monthly quote to the blog recently and divided the links separating the blogs links.

A Pile of Books Upon My Chest
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I saw this poem in sixth grade but I really didn't understand it at the time :"Now I lay me down to restA pile of books upon my chestIf I should die before I wakeThat's one less test I'll have to take"For sure, I can totally empathize with it these days.

Bangladesh
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Beauty and KindnessHonesty and IslamThis is Bangladesh Blood with ViolenceCorruption and JealousyThis is BangladeshIn the upcoming Bangladesh elections the people will get to choose between two rotten eggs (The two candidates of course and its always the same two candidates.) and the country will have to smell and digest those rotten eggs for the next 5 years. Bangladesh is not a democracy it’s an aristocracy. Whatever choice the people of Bangladesh make doesn’t really matter. Either candidate will win but as usual the people of Bangladesh will lose.

Why we are losing the war on terror
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I thought this was an interesting news article. I ran into it in google news today so I copied it here so you guys could "viddy" it too. WHY WE ARE LOSING WAR ON TERRORBy Damien FletcherTWO hundred terror cells, 30 major attacks planned in the UK, 1,600 fanatics plotting chemical, biological and nuclear atrocities. The warning this week about Muslim extremists from MI5 chief Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller - in a speech cleared by the Home Secretary - was stark and terrifying. But was it just scaremongering?Experts said yesterday the alarmist rhetoric was a sign that the Government and MI5 are losing control of the war on terror - and out foreign policy is to blame.Terrorism expert Simon Reeve said: "This kind of speech serves only to alarm the public without offering solutions."The Government, standing shoulder to shoulder with the US, is losing the war against terror because of our appalling foreign policy - mainly in Iraq - and a failure to understand and address the root causes of terr

~Still Studying!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Yes I'm studying real hard and that's pretty much all I'm doing. I know it is pretty mundane but I have to keep pushing straight ahead. If you sweat more during training, you will bleed less during the war right?I am currently going through Medicine (As our teachers have said it really is the ocean of knowledge!)And my stats? I've finished:1) Connective tissue system2) Renal System3) 3/4 of Cardiovascular system4) 1/2 of Respiratory systemI have a whole lot more to get through . . . . I need more caffiene!I've seen a few movies too.1) Memoirs of a Geisha - Classy movie. I recommend it2) Tokyo Godfathers (anime) -If you are looking for action, sorry but it is a drama really, good story and characters to boot. I'm impressed with the fact they were able to pull this kind of story off with the anime medium3) Steam Boy (anime) - Theme of how Gov't and society use advances in science to destroy themselves and humanity instead of using that knowledge for the betterment of mankind. The Democrats have taken over! :)
1970-01-01 00:59:59
My fellow Americans,Isn’t it a great day? The sun is up and the Birds are singing . . . . Donald Rumsfeld got the axe (Now if we could just get his balls . . . Project mayhem anyone? :) and the Democrats have taken over the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Republicans have had too much power too long. The Democrats need to put Bush on a leash and pull hard to bring him in line with reality. I hope changes come swiftly especially on the U.S.’s Foreign policy (The regular Joe should have a say on this. Have a vote on the best foreign policy available.) The U.S. is the police force of the world but I ask you what has always been asked of the police force, “Who watches the Watchmen?”I want Hillary Clinton to run for president in the next presidential election. I’ll be the 1st to vote. The U.S. needs to focus on itself and improve things at home.American voters elected an Afro-American Democrat Keith Ellison, a 43 year old lawyer and state representative, as the first

Internet at The Pit of Doom!?

Yeah Hi!Yes I know, I’m not supposed to post for the next 2-6 weeks but I have to take that back now. Something unexpected has happened, regardless of the banana wires we use to communicate here in Shayol Ghul . . . . . . We now have an internet cyber cafe in The Pit of Doom! Its some kind of cell phone based gizmoThat means I’ll be able to update the old blog almost whenever I want, communicate on messengers, and e-mail. That means you’ll have more opportunities to see snapshots of my eccentric psyche! You’ll be able to e-mail me and get a reply within 2 days!Yes, look me up on messenger!

The Sniper Bubble
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Everyone including myself have complained at some point or another that we can't concentrate 100% at whatever we're trying to do. I think I found a way out of this.To get the concentration and focus you need to take out one target at a time you should use the sniper bubble. Its a visualization tool that's taught in sniper training.Basically what you do is you visualize a bubble around you that seals you off from the rest of the world, and the only things that matter are within that bubble. It's a gradual shutting off from the outside world. It creates two worlds. Mine and the one outside. In one the normal activity of everyday life continues. In the other, only me, my weapons, and my target remain.(e.g Me, My weapons are my books and my target is the exam I'm gonna shoot down with my studying)Nothing else exists. Not my past baggage, not my inner demons, not the people around me, the weather, sleep, the argument I had last night, or all the things that go on around the world that do

My Jihad
1970-01-01 00:59:59
O.K. I started a new blog, called Ashiq’s Jihad . It’s targeted mainly toward Muslims but anyone can go have a look see. Here’s the description from the blog:“Jihad means Struggle. This blog is not about taking up guns and swords. This Blog is about Jihad Al-Nafs. Jihad or Struggle against oneself. It’s about improving ourselves for the sake of Allah. It's about abolishing ignorance. It's about promoting love and peace at least from my point of view. And yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The blog will be either updated bi-weekly or monthly”Yeah so here's the address: http://daishan4jihad.blogspot.com/The link is also available in the left column under ashiq’s blog ring thingYes I know I have shamelessly promoted my own blog :)Guess what? This is my 50th post. I have 19 posts from 2005 and 21 posts from 2006. This is post number 10 for 2007. That means I only have to do another 10 posts and I can rest for the rest of the year. (whew!~)Right? :)

Bring the Troops Home
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I was busy the past week.I wanted to trash the state of the union address by Pres. Bush (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,246158,00.html) but why bother trashing trash right? Everyone’s telling him to pull out but this guy just won’t listen. We’re still waiting for Congress to do something about it but as usual they have to “talk it over” which takes forever.Pull out the American troops and let Iraq have its sunni-shia civil war. Let them work it out by themselves. Yes people will die but guess what? A lot of people have died already. It‘s not the responsibility of the United States to take care of this. Too much blood has been spilled and unfortunately a lot of young blood at that. Its time for the U.S. troops to go back home to their families and friends who miss them so, so much.

Ponga-Ponga
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Ok so these two guys survive a plane crash and find themselves in the middle of nowhere. This primitive tribe finds them and takes them prisoner. Obviously they take the poor guys to their leader. So the 1st guy is presented to the leader and the leader gives him a choice, “Ponga-Ponga or death?”The 1st guy says “Ponga-Ponga.”The leader replies, “O.K. Ponga-Ponga!”The 1st guy is then tied down in the prone position and they spread his legs. Then they insert the bark of a huge tree up his ass. They continue sodomizing the guy with the bark of the tree for the better half of the day. All the while the 2nd guy witnesses all the pain and suffering of the 1st guy. Finally they let the 1st guy go.The 2nd guy is then presented to the leader and the leader gives him the same two choices that the 1st guy got, “Ponga-Ponga or death?”The 2nd guy considers what happened to the 1st guy and decides he can’t deal with it so he cleverly replies, “Death.”The leader says “O.K. I disagree with the President.
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Pres. Bush wants to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq. I totally disagree with him as usual. It’s time to bring all the troops back home. A lot of people have died (Go to the Iraq-nam blog and see who) and a lot of money has been wasted. I hope Congress will stop the President ’s plan. There’s a reason why the constitution has checks and balances and it’s time for Congress to exercise the power to do just that.Personally I think the President is sending additional troops to Iraq as a launching point into an invasion of Iran. Why else is there a naval build up in the gulf? It’s not just me. 70% of the American people disagree with Pres. Bush. And he’s been criticized by several newspapers and TV programs. The people have spoken but will it matter? Time will tell.http://www.themilitant.com/2007/7103/index.shtmlOn another note here in Bangladesh “the people” can’t even have a peaceful election. It’s sad really. Click the link below for details. People have died a

Back Home for a Visit
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Yeah so I'm back in Ny. Surprised? Yeah me too. I found out I was coming 24 hrs before my flight. I flew Emirates from Dhaka to Dubai ( 5 hrs ) and then ran around dubai duty free for 15 mins and then grabbed 2 Big Macs and got on my flight. Checked out some cell phones and bought a huge plush camel with big eyes for Momsy.Yeah Dubai has like the best McDonalds food even compared to Ny cause it's fresh and hygienic unlike the ones made here by High School students working part time, spitting and sneezing in the food and putting in God knows what else. For reals my high school buds warned me to avoid this particular branch of Burger King while I was in High School. I was like why? And then they told me. I'm like how do you guys know? They're like we work there, we're one who add the extra nutritious stuff.I checked out a few cell phones namely the Nokia N series stuff. The N91 music edition with 8GB of internal memory is like 500 bucks and I liked the N73 music edition with 2GB mem

Using Foxit reader for pdfs. 7-zip for zip files. Limewire for file sharing. America online for Internet. Firefox for browsing, Free download manager for speeding up downloads, Irfan view for image files, yahoo messenger and aim for instant messaging. More Troops to Afghanistan?
1970-01-01 00:59:59
President Bush is ordering an additional 3, 200 troops to go to Afghanistan . He's asking Congress for 11.8 billion dollars for this. Bush said he hopes to help Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf repel Taliban forces that have been holed up in the mountains between the two countries. "That's wild country, wilder than the wild, wild West," Bush said.Where does Pres. Bush get such brilliant ideas? And that bit about being wilder than the wild wild west. For sure he must have hired a failed Hollywood script writer to write that.I'm waiting for Bush to announce how many troops he's gonna commit to Iran next. Yeah it's probably coming and we saw it coming years ago. Just a matter of time probably. What do you guys think?About the upcoming elections. I'm not really sure who the best candidate is. If Hillary gets elected it'll just confirm the fact that democracies in the long term become aristocracies. The current President's father was President before Bill Clinton. Is Hillary the b

Iraq-nam : Spreading the word
1970-01-01 00:59:59
As Davin suggested sometime ago, I went on a drive by blogging last week and ran into this awesome blog:http://iraqnam.blogspot.com/In the author's own words,"The point, and the purpose here is to simply present the facts and events, and let them tell the story of Iraq -Nam . . . But beyond that, and what matters most, are the people whose stories are told here... for this will be the true legacy of Iraq-Nam"What I really digged about the blog is that it's not just about the countries, religions, and the groups involved. It's about real people. That's the side we never get to see really and this seems like a perfect window to it.There are between 10 - 40 posts daily. I e-mailed and asked how many people work on the blog? Guess what? Its all done by "1" person. That's right one person. The blog is objective and tries to tell all sides of the story there.Well what are you waiting for? Click the link above and go.You can click the link on the left side of the screen under "Ashiq's Bl

Canon Powershot
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I got Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children special limited edition boxed set. It's the movie sequel to the '97 game Final Fantasy 7.came with 2 DVDs, 10 post cards, the script and a novel and wicked box.The movie has cutting edge CGI. After 10 mins you'll forget it's all computer generated. That's right we don't need actors or actresses anymore. I highly recommend this to all Final Fantasy 7 fans. I broke my old digital camera a couple of months ago. Its was a canon powershot 3.2 megapixels. I was debating whether to get to get the Kodak Z612 or the Canon powershot SD630. I read reviews online and got my friends and family to help me decide. Thanks! I finally got the Canon Powershot SD630. It kicks serious @$$ people. The 3 inch LCD rocks. The pictures above were taken with the camera.

If you are a Fight Club fan then this is for you. The above picture is a warning which appears for a few seconds on the start up of the Fight Club DVD which is preceded by the FBI video warning. It's a hidden message from Tyler Durden. I took a screen shot of it while it was playing because there is no way to pause it or read all of it in the time given. The Rules for Project Mayhem:1st Rule is: You do not ask questions2nd Rule is: You do not ask questions3rd Rule is: No excuses4th Rule is: No lies5th Rule is: You have to trust TylerIf you have not read the Fight Club novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Ok so we know we need to see the picture and type the letters there so can prove that we are real human beings and not some bot or program. I was doing a post in the orkut community and this is what came up. I was like "R U 4 Serious?" I had a good laugh and since the odds of this ever happening again are remote. I did a screen capture to share it with you guys.Notice it says "To protect our user's safety . . ." What were the people over at google and orkut thinking when they made this? Is it a subliminal message? Maybe just a joke? Or do you think this was actually random? Nah :)As Davin would put it "It's just gold"

Studying at NYU Medical Center on Sundays
2007-03-12 19:24:00
I took a few photos yesterday. I've been studying at the New York University Medical Center Library the past 2 Sundays . That's 9 hrs and 10hrs of studying respectively. The 1st photo is a pic I took of Manhattan in the car on the Queensboro bridge which connects Queens with Manhatten. The 2nd photo was taken coming off the Queensboro bridge entering Manhattan. The 3rd photo is of me in the Library at NYU med center. Yeah that's where I parked my butt to study. The 4th photo is of an ambulance they used to use at Bellevue Hospital back in 1898. The only thing missing here are the horses which would be pulling the ambulance and of course the driver. The 5th photo is a showcase showing medical equipment doctors used at the med center during the 1800's and 1900's.

Understanding Our Parents
2007-03-18 01:29:00
If you needed to get a new kidney today, your parents would be the 1st (if not the only) people to give up their own kidneys for you so you could have a better life. If they could sacrifice their life to save the life of their child. They would do it without hesitation in a heartbeat without any thought. The decisions, sacrifice, and love of our parents for us will only be understood completely once we have children of our own. For the love for our children as parents will be a reflection of the love of our parents for us. Truly it is a mystical relationship that exists between parent and child. This post has been inspired by a recent post done at Manjari's blog because just a comment would have fallen short of the scope of the topic.
