Buccaneers and Vikings Interested in Allen
2008-04-17 14:17:30
Jared Allen , who has publicly stated that he wants out of Kansas City, may soon be getting his wish. Allen became disgruntled with the Chiefs when negations for a long-term contract broke down last year. The Minnesota Vikings and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have both expressed interest in the disgruntled pro-bowl defensive end. Allen, who led the NFL with 15.5 sacks in 2007, had been declared the franchise player by the Chiefs for the 2008 season. Allen is free to sign a contract offer from any franchise. The Chiefs then have the rights to match the offer and retain Allen. Read more...

Deadline Buyers?
2008-04-16 09:32:10
The Royals are 8-6 early into the 2008 season, half of a game back in the AL Central. It is very early, but it got me thinking, “when the trade deadline approaches, are the Royals buyers or sellers if they are close in the standings?” The Royals have begun creating a nice young core of players with Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, Brian Bannister and Zack Greinke heading into the future, and with three of those four graduating to the Majors last season, the Royals farm system is nearly depleted of near-MLB ready talent other than Luke Hochevar. DeJesus: Overrated?
2008-04-14 21:57:35
David DeJesus, who has been injured since opening day, is back in the lineup tonight and it got me thinking, “where does DeJesus rank amongst the AL center fielders?” After a quick glance through the MLB depth charts at MLB.com, I found only two AL center fielders that would go on my wish list lower than DeJesus; Alexei Ramirez (CHW, playing CF because of injury to Jerry Owens) and Ryan Sweeney (OAK). What is so special and great about DeJesus? Look for it, it’s not there. Read more...

Which is the MOST Important?
2008-04-13 12:06:43
In the NFL, draft experts and gurus are always telling the fans that teams must "take the best player available," not the best player available to fill a positional "need" on the team. 2008 NFL mock drafts have the Chiefs taking a wide number of players with the #5 overall pick, such as: Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College (Scout.com, nfldraftcountdown.com, Pete Prisco, CBSSports.com & others), Keith Rivers, LB, USC (Rick Gosselin, The Dallas Morning News), Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State (Vic Carucci, NFL.com), Sedrick Ellis NG, USC (The Sports Xchange) and others. Two main questions are presented to the Chiefs as the draft approaches: 1) What is the biggest need of the many for the 2008 season, and 2) Should that "need" be filled at the cost of passing on the best

Brian Bannister: Stopper!
2008-04-13 02:24:03
There is no doubt that Brian Bannister is one of the most knowledgable pitchers in the game of baseball today. He has an uncanny approach to the game, to always improve and to continually learn. If you need more convincing read Brain Bannister Q&A, Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3 from mlbtraderumors.com.Bannister has started hot this season, winning his first two starts, and the Royals need his hot streak to continue. He has a 1.50 ERA, allowing two runs in 12 innings, and he has struck out 10 batters in 12 innings, a greatly improved strikeout ratio from 2007. Read more...

Day of Rest or Day of Change?
2008-04-12 16:31:34
Alberto Callaspo was given the start over Tony Pena Jr. last night as the Royals fell quietly to the Twins. Is this a sign of lost playing time for TPJ, or was it simply a day off? Pena entered the day batting .037, and Callaspo left the day batting .357  (in limited playing opportunities). Will there be more opportunities for Callaspo to come?Pena is arguably one of the best defensive SS in the American League, however, it is no longer the 1980s. Shortstops are expected to hit for a high average, if not also for power. Great defense is no longer the lone ticket to the game for a Major League shortstop. Read more...

Guillen/Royals Win!
2008-04-11 14:20:43
MLB has recinded the 15-game suspension that was handed down to Jose Guillen in late 2007. Guillen was given a 15 game suspension for unspecified violations of the previous drug testing program. Read more...

Are the Royals for real?
2008-04-10 01:45:14
A week in a half in to the season and the Royals are leading the Majors in ERA, Saves, Shutouts, and are 3rd in Walks Issued. Yes, I know that the season is only 8 games old, but I get excited to watch every game, every day. The Royals have been conquering some of the top offenses in the MLB Read more...

Draft Day Party Flop?
2008-04-25 23:40:37
Jared Allen has gotten his wish. He is out of KC. Good for him. The Chiefs have traded Jared Allen to the Vikings. Allen went to Minnesota on Tuesday and signed a six-year contract worth just under $74 million with more than $31 million guaranteed, the most ever for a defensive player. The Chiefs get the Vikings' first-round pick (No. 17) and both the Vikings' third-round selections (73rd and 82nd). The trade gives the Chiefs six picks in the first 82 players in this weekend's draft and 13 total. I, for one, don't really care either way about the trade. The Chiefs have so many holes, and now another one, that I do not expect them to compete for years to come. The trade of Jared Allen is not the topic of this article. Read more...

Chad Johnson Trade: Truth and Consenquences
2008-04-24 13:35:42
Cincinnati Bengals Pro-Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson has been spending the last few months ranting about how displeased he is in Cincinnati and desperately wants out of the Queen City.  Recently, after harsh remarks about his current quarterback Carson Palmer, Ocho Cinco has finally demanded he be traded prior to the NFL Draft.  Fellow teammate T.J. Houshmandzadeh has even suggested that trading Johnson would be the best option for the Bengals to avoid having a cancer on the team to cause more problems. Read more...

Homeruns & Wins: The Keys to Building a Team
2008-04-23 11:28:34
This is my first article for Kansas City Fantasy. Thanks for stopping by. You may know me from such hits as KC Royalty, Royals Corner, Royals Authority and Royals Review. Yes, I'm a little ubiquitous on the web. Hope you enjoy.Today I'm going to talk to you all about my strategy (which has worked often) in building a fantasy baseball team. My next article will focus on Royals to look into for this season and for upcoming seasons. My basic tenets are:- Pitching can always wait unless you've got a chance to draft a top 3 guy.- Homeruns are gold, but they're not that difficult to find.- Steals and saves are way overrated. If a player only helps in one category, they're not worth much to me.   Read more...

NFL Draft - Impact on Fantasy - AFC North
2008-04-30 23:35:06
Our look at the NFL draft's impact on this year's fantasy draft continues with the AFC North .  Balitmore and Pittsburgh did the most to affect fantasy owners in 2008, but Cincinnati's move all depend on what happens with Chad Johnson and Cleveland traded most of their drafts for vets in the offseason. NFL Draft - Fantasy Impact - AFC South
2008-05-04 10:53:53
Arguably one of the top two toughest divisions in football, the AFC South is rearming for another slugfest of a year for the division title.  Could this be the year the Jaguars or Titans catch the Colts?  Do the Texans make a run at a playoff berth and their first winning season after finisining 8-8?  Not a lot of short term help from a fantasy standpoint here, but a few guys to keep an eye on. NFL Draft Impact on Fantasy - AFC West
2008-05-16 02:20:37
Our look at the 2008 NFL draft from a fantasy standpoint continues with the AFC West.Denver: Another team that didn't really affect the 2008 fantasy season by drafting skill players, but rather through drafting key line and secondary help to improve their existing play makers.  OT Ryan Clady will revitalize a Denver line that was once known as the best in the league, but slipped a little

Do fool me now!
2008-05-19 20:11:06
The Royals are getting exciting again! Nobody can believe that the Royals are only one game below .500 and 2 games out of the AL Central lead in mid/late May... You say that you are not surprised... I say, "You're a liar!" Yes, I have high hopes for this team this season, but my high hopes stop at a max of 79 wins... A fantastic season! Anything else is a bonus and should be treated

Favorite Players...
2008-06-02 21:29:43
Who are some of your favorite players that do not have much of a fantasy impact? My Current Top 3: 1 - Ryan Spilborghs - I should have written this last week. Ryan is getting a bunch of playing time lately due to the injuries to Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe, and Spilborghs is taking advantage of the unfortunate injuries to his teammates by playing pretty well. I heard an interview with Spilbor

6-foot-4, 215 pound, lefty, first baseman Eric Homser has become the latest in the line of high MLB draft picks for the KC Royals. For the second straight season the Royals have drafted arguably the best bat on draft day. The power struggles throughout the Royals lineup the past few years leave no question as to the motives of Dayton Moore, "We need guys that are future stars on that diamond

The Royals also dropped to 4-29 at Yankee Stadium since the start of the 2000 season.Joba Chamberlain mixed in some curveballs and changeups and moved one step close

Seriously... Some Respect, Please!
2008-06-08 23:12:44
How could CBS Sports even consider using this picture on the profile of one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history? I am sure that they could have found a better picture of Maddux in a Padres hat than the one they chose. It looks as if Maddux was allowed to wear a cap for his mug shot.It would be a little more understandable if Maddux had been a pain to the media, or fans, or simply not a nice gu

If there is a division that most impacts your draft, it's arguably this one, especially if you need a WR.  The QBs in this division should light up your league as well with all the new additions.Dallas: As always, Dallas was a mover and shaker in the draft, which is what you expect from Jerry Jones, but his moves were also predictable.  He took the other Razorback RB in Felix Jones

One thing is very clear about the Royals right now... When Jose Guillen gets hot he can almost carry the entire teamoffensively. Guillen finished his remarkable series against the New York Yankees in the greatest of fashion, by hitting a tiebreaking solo home run off Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2 win.
