A Kids Show Worth Trying
2008-04-23 01:35:00
I'm up late watching Nick @ Nite and I just saw a commercial for a new Nicktoon called The Mighty B. It's from the brains of funny-woman Amy Poehler, (Sidenote: Who else is going to see Baby Mama this weekend?) and Erik Weise (a writer for Spongebob Squarepants). It features the voice work of Kenan Thompson and Andy Richter. The show centers around Bessie Higgenbottom, a spirited, over-achieving scout. She is on a quest to earn every badge and summons the strength, courage and will to do by tapping in to her imaginary alter--ego The Mighty B.  It looks cute, creative and might even have some staying power. I'm only left thinking one thing; Poehler has a pretty solid movie career, she guest stars on other shows and now she's holding the reigns on this one. What's keeping her tied to SNL? I

Montana Pens Memoir For Mucho Moola
2008-04-22 21:00:00
Chew on this:Pop Princess Miley Cyrus signed a seven-figure book deal today with the Disney Book group. That's right, a 15-year-old entertainer who probably couldn't pass the English AP test will earn at least a million dollars to composing her memoir. I'm sure the book will be a best-seller when it's released in 2009 and the investment is well worth it for Disney. Plus it may be interesting to hear about this rising star's hectic life, especially if she actually delves in to some of the challenges and misconceptions about fame. But still. Seven figures? Is anyone else a little sad their parents never enrolled them in voice lessons?

Welcome Back Everybody!
2008-04-24 22:22:00
Tonight was my first busy night of television since before the Strike. ABC's Thursday night line-up (Ugly Betty, Grey's, Lost) premiered tonight and NBC tried out a new time-slot for 30 Rock. Both of these tidbits were great news for me, especially on the same night. The time slot switch made it possible for me to watch all of my shows in one sitting. It was like a new lane opening up on a busy highway.Anyone else settle in for a night of superb comedies topped off by perplexing drama (thanks LOST)? It was really nice to have so many options again. Not only that, but the episodes were really well done. I'm officially back in the swing of things...just in time for things with SAG to heat up. I won't be able to take another strike. Hopefully it won't come to that.I'm going to sleep well to

Best. Picture. Ever.
2008-04-24 22:17:00
Thank you TV Addict for providing me with this giant photo of the 24 season 7 cast. Cue oggling. The first things I noticed:1. It's nice Janeane Garofolo can turn shlubby on and off.2. Where are the CTU agents/political figures of color?3. Love the fact that Jack is the only one wearing jeans. You'd think he'd switch to tear-away pants by now for maximum flexibility.

A Minute For Brothers & Sisters
2008-04-27 22:29:00
I'm assuming Justin and Rebecca will date once it comes out that she's not a Walker. However, in real life, wouldn't that be too much to overcome? Would the Walker family really let that relationship happen? Though they're cute together and the audience likes them as siblings, how will America take to them being a couple?Just thinking out-loud and readying myself for the potential awkward television that will be their relationship.Any thoughts?

Bloodier Than The Original: The 300th Post
2008-04-27 21:51:00
It's the 300th post! Like the 100th and 200th before it, I will ring in the excitement with an obnoxious list. This go-round we're talking about my favorite 1980's theme songs.Theme songs were different back then. They were a minute long, catchy and inspiring. My first attraction to TV came in the form of the Punky Brewster theme song and its been a love-affair ever since. #5 Empty Nest (1988-1995)This show was only okay but nothing beats watching old man Richard Mulligan stroll on the beach with his dog.Favorite lyric: Sometimes the answers can be hard to find/That's something I will never be.#4 Gimme A Break (1981-1987)This theme song sucked until season three when they picked up the tempo and let Nell Carter sing it. And nothing beats her trying to strangle a bathroom scale.Favorite lyr

Like Hulu But For Teen Girls In The Late '90s
2008-04-28 21:38:00
Since being swallowed up by the CW, few have uttered the phrase "WB" in awhile. That changed today when Warner Brothers premiered the long awaited web site aptly dubbed, theWB.com.What's out there? Oh just freestreaming episodes of The OC, Gilmore Girls , Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Friends, Smallville and more. The site will also house new original content from the WB.Too good to be true? Unless you're a beta tester, it is. But theWB.com will be up for the general public soon.I hope they post those old 3 minute promos I used to love so much. I wanted to hang out with them sooooo bad!Sleep with one eye open Hulu.

You Win 90210 Spin-Off
2008-04-29 22:17:00
Jessica Walter (Lucille Bluth of Arrested Development fame) is playing the role of a wealthy, alcoholic, former soap star on the new 90210 spin-off.This news is a gift and a curse:Gift: I will watch anything Jessica Walter touches.Curse: The show isn't a comedy so it will be hard watching her work within the confines of a teen drama. It's kind of like forcing a chef to make you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

This Week In American Idol
2008-04-29 22:09:00
I'm still watching tonight's episode.I have a couple things to say:Why are people still voting for Jason Castro? If he's still here next week, I'm through.Apparently the folks over at Idol are contemplating how they can make the show better. My suggestion? More crazy Paula and less bad singing. If David Cook can eek out an American Idol win, it will give this show the credibility it so desperately needs this season.Back to suffering through the back end of tonight's episode.

Amazing. Hilarious. Speechless.
2008-05-01 21:15:00
I'm feeling under the weather so I'll make this quick:Tonight's episode of The Office had the following highlights:Stanley freaking out. " Did I stutter?!" My guess is NBC will make a shirt and start selling it tomorrow.Toby playing dirty.Jim fake proposing...again.Andy and Angela doing adorable MadLibs.Michael making a giant face divot. The org chart to end all org charts. The ugliest glasses ever.Creed's triumphant return to funny.Daryl shares his insights into gang life. (When he mentioned Newsies, I laughed so hard I stopped breathing for a second.)And much, much more. With this is mind, I am declaring tonight's episode, "Did I Stutter?" my new favorite and (I'm going out on a limb here) the best episode of The Office.Agree? Disagree? Bring it. I think this one is pretty hard to top.

Hump Day Update
2008-04-30 22:25:00
It's Wednesday and always there's too much to talk about. How was your hump day everybody?Top Chef finally got rid of my least favorite chef. I won't give it away, but let me just say: I'm glad he's gone mate.David Blaine broke the world record for holding your breath under water after breathing in pure oxygen for 25 minutes. Yes, the record is that specific. Apparently there are two types of records. One where you don't take in the pure oxygen and one where you do. Either way, you get the shakes, your heart goes funny and you look like a dumbass in a giant globe of water on the Oprah set. If SNL were new this week, they'd be having a field day. And in Idol chatter, one of my favorites, Brooke White, went home tonight. She wasn't going to win, but I did like her modesty, sincerity and ever

Life Imitating Jokes
2008-05-02 23:54:00
Last night I joked that NBC would have a t-shirt featuring Stanley's new catchphrase "Did I stutter?," by today. While that's yet to make it to the site, you can purchase something else from yesterday's episode...the car. Andy Bernard, (or should I say Dwight's) Nissan Xterra SE is up for sale on eBay. The SUV is actually owned by a member of The Office production staff. The current bid is $15,300. For that chunk of change you get the Xterra, an autogtaphed copy of last nights script, and all of the props and stickers used in the episode. Not a bad deal at all.If all else fails, you can flip it for profit.

When Stars Collide
2008-05-04 21:39:00
I'm a little behind on this one. Did anyone else catch Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, on Ugly Betty last week?He did a wonderful job. He was playing an over-the-top version of himself, but still, not everyone can pull that off (are you listening Kirstie Alley?).Heres the clip in case you missed it.

Commercials I'm Currently In Love With
2008-05-04 21:15:00
I watch a lot of TV and even with the wonder of Tivo I still manage to catch my fair share of the commercials. Lately, there have been two that I've actually rewinded and watched over and over again. Amazingly, they're both for cell phone carriers. Whoa. The Mother's Day Commerical From AT&TIt makes me want to buy a phone, buy my mother a phone and do horrible things to flowers. That's a lot for a 30 second spot. The Firefighter Commercial From SprintI laughed out loud the first time I saw this. It doesn't make me want a Sprint phone, but I do want to wear a fire helmet. Mission Accomplished.

How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying
2008-05-05 20:33:00
Seth Macfarlane, the twisted brain behind Family Guy, American Dad and the new Family Guy Spinoff (The Cleveland Show), just signed a massive deal with 20th Century Fox. When I say massive, I'm not exaggerating. Seriously ridiculous. Macfarlane is set to make $100 Million between now and 2012  for writing and producing his current animated docket and an upcoming live-action show. Learn from this people: You too can make an excess of $25 Million a year for coming up with crass humor and weak plots...and this from a fan. Seth Macfarlane is now the highest paid writer-producer in television, and a lot of people would argue that he's not even very funny. Funny or not, the man is successful. If nothing else he is a master of raunchy jokes, timing, negotiation and luck.

The Most Awkward Top Chef Quote Ever
2008-05-07 21:32:00
It's even better out of context."I'm like Popeye's motherfuckin' wet dream here."Everyone's favorite foul-mouthed, ginger chef Andrew rattled that off after making 125 servings of creamed spinach.

Like The Simpsons? Get a load of this clip of every single couch gag ever. Ever. All 418 episodes. The best part is that you can pick out certain episodes by their gag.You can say the show's gone downhill. You can say it's no longer funny or relevant. It's Greek To Me
2008-05-07 07:04:00
My blog partner wrote about her odd fascination with Greek shortly after its premiere, but even with her ringing endorsement I didn't tune in. Teen (and 20-something) dramedies require you to know the characters. It is not easy to come in without backstory. But I finally watched the popular ABC Family show last night with the help of my friend Annie who caught me up on backstory as needed. It also helped that I watch a lot of ABC Family and see the commercials 5 or 6 times a day.My first impressions? This show doesn't get enough credit. It's by no means extremely innovative and there were some bizzare casting choices (Geico Guy as Mr. Cartwright?) but it is entertaining, witty and the actors look age appropriate. That's something few teen+ dramas can boast (cough, cough, Dawson's Creek, cou

McCain/Shrute: Dream Ticket!
2008-05-08 22:31:00
John McCain appeared on The Daily Show last night. He can go wherever he wants, easy to do when you're not locked in a ridiculous, futile contest. I digress.McCain sat down with Jon Stewart to talk politics, the secret service, Mao, and general old man hilarity. You can watch the whole thing here and here but the part of interest came when McCain quipped that his running mate should be none other than Dwight Shrute, assistant to the Regional Manager of Dunder-Mifflin Scranton...and fictional. His staffers probably don't want to tell him it's not really a documentary.I kid. McCain seems like a funny guy. The fact that he likes The Office gives him points. Too bad we disagree on every issue except how awesome soup is and how much we love America.

Resuscitating Scrubs
2008-05-10 00:43:00
NBC aired the Scrubs "finale" last night. I throw "finale" in quotes because it wasn't quite a series finale and not really a season finale. I filled you in on the battle NBC and ABC are having over the quirky medical drama. Chances are, it will be heading to ABC this fall, but things aren't certain.Anyway, NBC went forward with a sort of send-off, sort-off final episode. Zach Braff directed the episode which was based loosely on The Princess Bride. Cute idea. Soem of Scrubs' best episodes broke their one-camera comedy conventions. But this time it was just...okay. The episode would've been just mediocre if it hadn't been labeled as the finale. But because it was, I had high expectations. The episode was unfunny from start to finish. I only chuckled at the occasional joke about horse manure

HBO Gets "Hung"
2008-05-10 22:04:00
HBO just secured some Hollywood clout for its next television project, Hung. The creative mind behind Sideways, (the movie not the book) just signed on to serve as an EP for the dark comedy.Hung follows the trials and tribulations of a basketball coach with an abnormally large penis. Seriously. But with a title like Hung, I don't know what you were expecting. A biopic of Top Chef Miami winner Hu

HBO In Your Home: No Subsciprtion Required?
2008-05-12 23:21:00
HBO is working out a deal to sell their some of their TV shows on iTunes. While this is great news, the real headline here is that the episodes are probably going to sell for more than the $1.99 price-point Apple has for the rest of their TV content. This is the first time in Apple's agreed to different pricing structure ever (at least on iTunes USA).You may recall NBC taking their shows off the o

Hump Day Update

It's Wednesday. How are you celebrating? The Real World is shooting in Brooklyn for its 21st season. In case you're counting, this is the 3rd time they'll be in New York. I wrote a post about this for my other blog, and I'll link to it when it goes up. In the meantime, let me just say this: Really? Three times in NYC? There's no other place in the worth checking out? In this entire country? Really

Tonight We're Gonna Party Like It's 1972!
2008-05-15 22:47:00
ABC is putting its chips in the BBC basket and making a re-make of a popular British drama for the fall season. Life on Mars follows a police officer in the prime of his career. Too bad he gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1972. Is he dreaming? Is he in a coma? Or could this really be happening? It's a little less "out there" than Pushing Daisies and more creative than Eli Stone. My concern is that

The TV Addict put together a lovely montage celebrating our favorite characters and shows we lost this year. It's pretty moving for a video mourning television shows. It just reminds me how many shows and characters I've missed over the years. I still smile when I see Mark Green on ER and Dana Fairbanks on The L Word. These characters aren't my friends, they aren't my family, but they come into my
