Jaws 8 and VISTA
2007-03-15 00:27:00
Just been testing the new Jaws update with Windows VISTA.Most of it seems to work fine, the only exception being that the Auto start feature has been disabled, Nice move FS! not much good when you need to navigate the Login screen to gain access to your machine.Have also found loads of issues with Office 2007, probably the most anoying being that you can't use the business cards view for contacts in outlook!

Audio description with Sky
2008-03-11 14:16:00
Ok, so I’m really quite impressed with this one. Basically for anyone who doesn’t know, Audio Description or (AD) is a service offered by various digital TV providers (SKY) etc which provides us blindys with Feedback happening on the program you are watching. It’s pretty good as you don’t need to constantly keep asking the person who ever is in the same room to describe what’s going on.

Creating sites in Dreamweaver
2008-03-04 16:30:00
I must say, I have been playing around with Dreamweaver for the last few days and am pleasantly surprised how accessible it is with Jaws.Ok, so, some Keyboard Shortcuts may not be the same as Microsoft's apps, but I feel that it's quite a good package to use once you work out where things are on it.

Good Pizza place
2008-03-11 19:01:00
Well, only been in my new House a few weeks and managed to find a pretty good Pizza place. I sent in a Text to 118118, asking for Pizza delivery in my local area and got a few replies back.  Looking down the list, there were the usual offerings, Pizza hut, dominos, Pizza Express, Milanos  etc and one called Pacific Pizza who I had never heard of. So, thinking that most of the others were closed and bearing in mind that Milanos is utter shite I decided to try out Pacific. Good swift delivery, not bad food and quite reasonably priced too. Will definitely be using them again.

Noodles!
2008-03-19 15:41:00
Not sure about everyone else but I like those Noodle places where it’s like around £3 per dish. I don’t mean the ones where it’s all that you can eat for a fiver, personally I find those kind of places pretty scanky, there’s cheap and then well I’m not sure really. I always find that the food in the ‘all ya can eat’ places has no real taste and the plates are just slightly bigger than Toast plates, or maybe there toast plates for fat bastards! And I really can’t be arsed to eat a couple of mouthfuls of what ever slop I have ordered then go for some more. Back to the Noodle bar then! Went out on Saturday to one in Greenwich, lovely food, a bit packed but that’s what you can expect for a Saturday night. 2 ma

Nearly the Bank holiday
2008-03-19 15:35:00
So, it’s nearly Easter then, one more day until the start of the long Weekend, ) Hope the weather improves a bit, want to get out in the Jungle that is my Garden and start trying to cut down some of those weeds etc. Hoping that there are some audio described films on Sky which I can get stuck into, oh well, will just have to wait and see.

Went out for some Food tonight, had a lovely time, eating some healthySalad type thing, then a walk around Covent Gardens. What is it with people when it rains? It somehow seems to make them moregormless than they normally are which is pretty worrying really. Itseems to make people just stand there completely in the way and look atyou like your some kind of alien when you try and ask them to move.I think the next time I see someone like that I should say, 'I'm notreally blind so you can stand in my way like you have been for the last30 seconds, gauping at me like your some kind of fucking Goldfish!'Seriously, what is it with people? They see someone with a long Cane andjust seem to walk right the fuck into it, I mean, who's the one with novision, them or me? I do wonder som

Snow at Easter
2008-03-23 06:57:00
I woke this morning, Went to put the Cat out into the Garden and noticedit was snowing.I think the last time I remember it snowing on Easter day was in theearly to mid 80s when I was about 8 or 9.Sadly, the Snow didn't lay long, it was soon replaced by Rain, oh well, maybe we will get some in London some time, but I doubt it.Happy Easter to anyone who reads this, have a good day.

It's the summer nearly and time for tickets for Reading/leads and all other festivals to go on sail from places like://www.ticketmaster.co.ukAnd countless other sites I can't remember the names of.For anyone who doesn't know, or maybe hasn't been to download, it's thefestival on Donnington racecourse normally early to mid June.Check out  the Festival lineup.Looks like a good lineup this year, hoping to see most of the bands though that's pretty hard sometimes especially when some dopy stoned Wanker decides to step on my Blind stick making it more bent than boy George, Thanks mate, I'll remember to buy you a beer at the Beer stand this year and promptly throw it over your fucking head!I've got to say that the disables camp section of Download is really e

Living the life of an Owl!
2008-03-27 22:45:00
So it's exactly 03:40 AM on a Friday morning or at least that's what theSystem clock on my Computer says and I'm wide awake after having all ofabout 2 hours sleep.I think it must be something to do with being blind, I have needed thatmuch sleep unless hung over or completely tired out. It seems that ifwe have a long Weekend No, any Weekend actually and I sleep more thanusual, around 3 days later it all seems to catch up on me and I kind ofcatnap for around 2 or 3 days. This nightlife is pretty cool really, faster download speeds, Birdssinging (the ones that can be bothered anyway) and no traffic from theMotorway, well that's something then, thanks for considering theenvironment.

Stew!
2008-04-06 08:43:00
I must have read somewhere that the weather was going to be cold today as I went and got all the ingenious for a good thick Stew yesterday. There pretty easy to make really, all you need to do is get everything you need, (the following list is a pretty good template) and chuck it all into a Pressure cooker or something; ü       4 Cans Guinness; ü       2 packs Stewing meat; (leave this out if you’re a vedgy!) ü       1 Sweed; ü       1 Onion; ü       2 Leaks; ü       Potatoes (the small ones you can skin and chop up; ü       A couple

Snow in April?
2008-04-06 08:33:00
God, it’s April 06 2008 and it has been snowing in London. I woke at around half 10 this morning to the sound of what I thought was rain beating on the Windows, but found out it was snow. The Cat did his usual thing, bolted for the Back door and howled to be let out, ‘Ok, go on then but you will prob be back in around 30 seconds’ I thought;  and I was correct. I opened the door; he ran out and found there was some strange cold white substance coming into contact with his Feet.  My Cat wasn’t blessed with brains when he was born or if he was he’s doing a good job of hiding it. So, he’s outside in the cold snow, what does he do? He lies down on the cold path and rolls about in it like he’s a Fox or something.

Watch repairs
2008-04-08 16:43:00
Hi to everyone; Was really impressed with the service I received from these guys so wanted to share with you all. Around a year ago I purchased an old Smiths Braille watch from Ebay, I think it dates from around the 60s or something.  After the Item arrived, I noticed it did not work so started looking for a jeweller in the hope of repairing it. I phoned and visited many shops in my area including RNIB, none of which seemed to be able to help, all accept PW Constable Watch repairs based in London. I took my Watches into them and was phoned a couple of days later with a quotation which I accepted.  The work was done and I was telephoned when all was complete. I received a highly friendly, efficient service from these guys and would would highly recommend them to

London Marathon 2008
2008-04-10 18:33:00
Well, it's Marathon time again, good luck to everyone who runs it, belucky and free from injury and drink plenty of Water during the race. It's a good job it wasn't last week really, all that snow? Well, therewasn't really that much but it would have made Running conditions prettydangerous. It's quite a good feeling watching the Marathon, there's always a goodatmosphere and there's something to be said for encouraging the athleteson. I always think you never get the whole atmosphere of the occasion if youwatch it on the Telly.I always wonder how some of the Runners manage to complete the race insome of there outfits? There was a huge Dragon last year or the yearbefore, wouldn't have fancied taking that off at the end of the race.

Curry!
2008-04-10 18:21:00
Went to a Curry house on Wednesday night.I am a regular there and have got to say that the food is always of ahigh quality, the people are friendly and efficient and in general it'sa pretty good atmosphere. There was a group of people on the next table to me last night, prettypretentious, Stuck up and in general pretty unpleasant really, you know, the sort of people who have been everywhere, done everything, all atthere parent's expense and who think they know everything but in realityknow absolutely fuck all!One woman was wining on that she hadn't been to this place before andwas bleating on about starters, what to have, what not to have and ingeneral really pissing everyone off.I looked over to her table and said; 'The Prawn starter is pretty nice, I've had it a few tim

simple Hello!
2008-04-10 18:11:00
I'm not sure what is going on with people in society at the moment?Take a normal every day scenario, you are out or something and casuallysay 'Morning' to the person who is walking the same way as you are.Nothing wrong with that really, just being friendly and all that, sowhat's the harm?Occasionally, someone will say 'Morning' back to you, more often thannot, they will just walk past you sucking on there Fag or running forthe train that had they left there house 5 minutes earlier they wouldnot be rushing for, or they will tut at you like you have done somereally strange outlandish thing or something, oh what it must be like tolive in there world, the one where no-one speaks or anything.

VISTA or XP
2008-04-10 15:02:00
I think I'm starting to loose count on the amount of discussion topics seen on the Internet or heard in pubs referring to Windows XP or VISTA? I've got to say that although VISTA is a hungry memory munching operating system, on the whole it's generally ok. It seems quite accessible with programs like JAWS or Window eyes though you can only use JAWS 8 and later on it as Microsoft have completely rewritten windows or something, I'm not sure about Window eyes as I don't use it.   I have seen specs for machines with 512 mb RAM or a gig saying they are VISTA ready, but to be honest, I don't think I would run it on any machine with at least 2 gig minimum Ram, maybe even 4.  People are probably thinking 'Why does he want so much memory?' well, here's the answer; T

I think I've been stereotyped;
2008-04-10 14:53:00
Ok, so is this a case of Stereotyping people or am I being a tad over sensitive? I had arranged for a contractor to come and take a look at something at my property yesterday, I had contacted the people who own my property and got everything sorted for an appointment between 9 AM and 1 PM yesterday. The Contractor arrived, I let him in and went to the Drain which was causing the problem. Upon inspection, the first words he uttered were; 'So, who called this in then, was it your Home Help?' To say I was shocked and taken back would be something of an under statement and I think my face said it all! Part of me was tempted to answer 'Yes, please excuse me while she feeds me my Breakfast and changes my Nappy' but I thought better of it. Firstly, I do not have a Home help, se

Training again?
2008-04-11 13:18:00
All this talk of the London Marathon really makes me want to be in the race. A couple of years ago, I approached a couple of charities, (1 for prem Babies) and the other, well I can't really remember. I think that one of the T&C's on racing for them was that you need to raise about £1500 which I wasn't sure I could do. Is this not a bit cheeky of them? I know there charities and all that, but surely isn't the important thing the fact that your running for them anyway and trying to raise them some money?

I've been thinking of getting Sky+ for a while now but not really sure weather it's a good move or not? Ok, so it's got is good points like; being able to record programs you want and store on it's internal Hard drive, but as a blind person I am wondering how accessible it would really be? I mean, I read somewhere that you can send a text to it or something basically saying what to record and when; but the problem comes when you want to listen or watch what you've recorded.   Short of a Web based solution, I don't really see how it would work unless you are a really organised person who memorises exactly what is in the menu, hence, knowing how many times to scroll down the list of recordings before you get to the one you want. I think I'll just wait for a while and wait a

is it finally summer?

I like this time of year, the Sun is out, there is a gentle breez and the Birds are in the trees, sounds like the start of a badly written song or something.nah, its nice because its bringing the dark cold nihts to a close and we are entering a period of longer warmer days and nights, i guess i had better go and get a bbq then, make sure its a Charcole one though.
