Top 6 '80s Commercials
2008-05-25 09:40:26
From time to time I find myself reciting old commercials. It's almost like their parables. Each holds a lesson. Here are six that have stuck with me.1. You know you love Ernest P. Whorl. We all do. We all hate Sprite though. Kind of rips a hole in the space time continuum, no? 2. Is there a little Plumper in you? 3. The Powerglove is now just a fashion statement. It used to represent somethin

Killer Instinct?
2008-05-25 09:09:10
Does Samsung's new iPHONE killer have what it takes? Apple is a brand behemoth with legions of loyalists. Samsung has the opportunity to tout that "other" mystique for a time. I think we've seen what happened to the Zune when it tried to rival the iPOD's dominance. What do you think?

Top 6 Ways To Fight Baldness
2008-05-30 22:16:30
1. Convert to Judaism. The yarmulke makes an excellent shroud for your naked dome. It's not a hairstyle, it's a religion. Shalom!2. Lose a limb. Now this one takes some commitment. All I'm saying is that no one looks at the one legged dude and says, "Hey, he's bald!" You were too symmetrical anyways.3. Bad attitude. If you walk around insulting people all the time they're less likely to

Bill Say It Ain't So
2008-05-30 21:46:34
Bill Murray is the sort of gent you'd die to have at your party. As indicated HERE. He's had his bad luck with authority BEFORE. That's all well and good. The current charges of SPOUSAL ABUSE really take the wind out of my sails though. This is the kind of guy I wanted to be when I got older. A cad. An eccentric funny man with a taste for the absurd. Please let this be a nasty divorce gone wrong. W

Netflix Roku
2008-05-30 21:18:15
Netflix got my attention with their new box called the Roku. This is a device that allows you to instantly download movies. Forget waiting for your mail carrier. Instant gratification. While wars are being waged for Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD (RIP) and DRM security those in the know are shrugging their shoulders. If it never exists in hardcopy form, it doesn't matter. Smart move Netflix. It transfers over

Hardcore
2008-05-30 20:33:39
I'm a bit of an old dude these days. I got myself an old lady. I have a mortgage. I'm filling out TPS reports Monday through Friday. There was a time when I breathed fire.My friends and I would pack into tiny basements. We'd scream our brains out through awful PAs, pound the hell out of drums and bleed all over guitars. There were no rules. The shows were free or at the most $5. All the money went

Foodtacular
2008-05-30 13:30:51
The Epicarrion has tapped his dessert damsel to write the Friday food blog which makes sense considering I'm the only one cooking in this abode. About a month ago I was going through a drought of ideas-completely stumped on what to make for dinner each night and tired of the same recycled meals each week. I went on a major spending spree on amazon.com for new cookbooks to inspire me each week. Two

Traveling for work sucks unless food is involved
2008-06-06 10:02:02
This week I was needed in NYC for a client lunch. I lived in NYC for 3 years and do not feel the need to go back up so whenever I am forced to for work it's never a happy experience. Adding to my unhappiness-client lunches normally take me to steak houses, meat/cheese based spanish tapas, or generally anywhere insensitive to my needs so you can understand my excitement when my client requested din

Post-Theory
2008-07-21 08:43:09
I read this mind blowing article in Wired the other day called, The End of Theory : The Data Deluge Makes The Scientific Method Obsolete. The gist of the piece is that with enough data we no longer have to daydream about concepts. We can measure whatever we like. It points to the "born again" quantum physicists searching for a single unifying principle with N dimensional models as an example where

Good Magazine
2008-07-20 20:56:25
After months of staring at the rack beside the checkout at Whole Foods I finally decided to start buying some of their magazines. This week I settled on Good Magazine . It's their travel issue and it's quite impressive.Visually, it's quite pleasing with an eye towards modern sleek design. Often function is passed up to make things look cool. That's okay with me since they do a nice job with it. The

Raw Feat
2008-07-18 16:26:23
My lady is quite into health food. Several times she's tried to get us onto the raw food diet. Every time she has attempted this I have rebelled. I firmly believe that we should take care of our bodies but we should also enjoy our lives. Eating is something I really get pleasure out of. We are both vegan and that requires some sacrifices. Each of us has our own limit of how far we are willing to g

Top 6 Ways For Lou Pearlman To Repay His Debt To Society
2008-07-16 19:26:17
Noted fat guy and pop band promoter Lou Pearlman is accused of stuffing $300 million dollars of other people's money into his mattress. He's responsible for such audio abortions as 'N SYNC and the Backstreet Boys. He's already doing 25 years in the slammer for stealing this dough but it took the Feds a while to put an exact price tag on his caper. How is he going to pay all of it back? I'm glad yo

My View on Myvu
2008-07-14 20:16:15
While thumbing through the pages of Wired, I noticed this odd advertisement. It was this attractive woman wearing these ludicrous looking glasses. No woman would EVER wear these things. They were clunky and nerdy looking. And what do they do? Well what do these glasses do exactly? You hook them up to your iPod and they allow you view video and audio. Your own personal theater for public transporta

Top 6 Reasons Offshore Drilling Is A Bad Idea
2008-08-02 09:37:28
The news is abuzz with a great debate between Obama and McCain on the issue of drilling for oil off America's shores. This is a measure that seeks to solve a complex problem with a simple solution. Rising energy costs require a more holistic answer and not one rooted in political motives.1. Offshore drilling merely prolongs the inevitable. At some point we will run out of BLACK GOO spurting from t

Point and Clique
2008-07-29 20:15:02
I grew up in a world dominated by games by Lucas Arts. These "point and click" masterpieces were fun, addictive and challenging. This was before the days when you could just hop on the Internet and find a walk through guide to that impossible level. Why won't that door open?! How comes there's no gasoline for this chainsaw? Argh! It was like walking uphill to school both ways but I loved it. Now t

Cuil Reception
2008-07-28 16:19:13
If I was running my own venture capital firm, I think one of the last companies I would fund would be a search engine. Your major competitors are Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. Those companies spend more on stationery than most companies generate in revenue in a year. Your only hope is that you create a company, concept or technology so great that one of those behemoths wants to swallow you up. Well

Why?- Alopecia
2008-07-27 13:03:15
The first time I sat down to listen to Alopecia by WHY? I found myself staring off into the distance and becoming absorbed in the rhymes, melodies and beats. I  had a rush that was akin to the first time I heard  The Shape of Punk To Come by Refused or Evil Empire by Rage Against The Machine or 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields. Here was an album that executed a concept and was fun to

Toothless
2008-08-22 09:50:40
So the wife recently had her wisdom teeth yanked out. This presented an unusual dilemma with regards to eating. If you follow the doctor's orders you're not supposed to eat anything crunchy or chewy for 1-2 weeks. So you've got to think of a lot of oozy, drippy and/or formless things to consume. At first blush this wouldn't appear to be hard. I however challenge you to come up with 3 meals a day a
