Happy Oxytocin Day!
2008-02-14 10:30:00
I don't think you have to be a scientist to realize chemical bonding must be absolutely necessary between lovers. After all, how else would we put up with all the extra-curricular crap outside the bedroom if it weren't for some hormone that makes us go ga-ga?"In humans, oxytocin is thought to be released during hugging, touching, and orgasm in both sexes. In the brain, oxytocin is involved in social recognition and bonding, and may be involved in the formation of trust between people and generosity." -- More at Wikipedia. So you know what that means: on this day, go stimulate yourself and your lover enough to produce gallons of oxytocin, because you know there are going to be days when you have to tap into the reserves!tags: valentine , oxytocinYou won't see me on the side of the bus!

Chancleta: Cooking with Cojones
2008-01-19 14:03:00
Professor Chancleta drops the Hialeah accent to help a friend from the northeast learn a few basic words in Spanish."I feel like little red riding hood ... I wish the big bad wolf would visit me at night. Eh, he's such a wuss!""Everything is so freakin' complicated with Cubans ... when you say to a Cuban 'I'm going to give you a cracker' you could also be saying 'I'm going to bitch-slap the shit out of you' ... it's all about context.""When Cubans eat a banana, they are reminded of the bloody, money-greedy history of colonialism, when plantation owners brought slaves from the country of Guinea.""If you are in fact referring to testicles, use the word COJONES.""Spanish-Cuban people put chorizo in EVERYTHING. I don't care if it's a birthday cake!"It's all about the paprika ... and that sl

Cold Weather Crisis in Florida!!!
2008-01-04 10:07:00
It was very cold in Miami during the past couple of days. Cold trumps everything for us tropical creatures, zOMG! I mean even the iguana that lives in the tree behind my apartment died! It was floating in the Biscayne Waterway, so sad! Plus, there was free frozen gator meat festival in the Everglades all weekend. Oy! Let's not even talk about citrus fruit and such. This was one hell of a cold front. It even snowed in Daytona, typically the land of hot rods and loud carburetors. Do you think Julia Tuttle could've pulled the wool over Henry Flagler's eyes with this one? Julia Tuttle, the founding "mama" of Miami, sent Flagler orange blossoms as proof we do not have freezes down here, just to encourage him to extend the railroad down to our hot, sticky swamp. Julia, was that a well-

Silence Is Golden

Dear Readers, this 'live blogging' thing has suddenly come to my attention. Would you be interested in a regular Manola show? Twat would it be about? And what time of the day? Please leave comments below, but make sure they are not below the belt. I would be happy to entertain this possibility ... Already one of my loyal fans suggested a Dr. Annie Steelclit bulletin board, but I think we can take it next level, especially with other blogger guests. Remember, it's a little me, a little Miami Beach ... and maybe, a little you. What say?tags: seesmic, videoYou won't see me on the side of the bus! I AM THE BUS! Sexcrunch: If These Holes Could Talk

All the news that's fit for bed, served between the sheets. Don't ever say you aren't getting any!Yay! Miami has sexist clubs! To see some real hardcore pussy, scroll down. Photo by Ade Peever. These Butts Were Made for Walkin' ...... well, sort of. A pensioner in Germany went in for leg surgery and got a refurbished bunghole instead. Clearly, someone at that hospital wasn't anal retentive enough about surgery scheduling, so our medical correspondent Dr. Suckmy Gupta just had to get to the bottom of this case. In an exclusive interview, he asked surgeon Herr Doktor Feindass if he knew the difference between chronic incontinence and incompetence. "Well, the old woman's sphincter was loose and a little worn around the edges," said Herr Doktor Feindass. "Face-to-face with a fresh, tight

South Beach: Requiem or Rhapsody?
2008-03-25 22:24:00
"When the quest to fill your inner emptiness by appropriating something from outside becomes desperate, repetitive, or automatic you have what is called an addiction." -- Edmund J. Bourne, The Anxiety & Phobia WorkbookAddiction. That's brilliant. There's no better way to describe my relationship to this place. I was addicted to the idea of the beach, even though, two and half years ago, I started this blog in a process that was really the beginning of the end. I had some kind of unnatural attachment to the island and everything it represented -- a life of longing, a life of being single with no responsibilities, a life of flotsam and jetsam, minus the consequences. A life of cocktails, minus the hangovers. A life of tourism, a life of running away, traveling to and from my own li

Relationships, Part 1
2008-03-24 12:13:00
Well, lots of change going on ... "we" may be moving off the beach, but no matter ... this blog has always been about sex and relationships. Relationships with self, with others, with sex, even relationships with ... especially relationships with place ... stay tuned. And besides, who wouldn't want Manola reporting from other locales?"Everything is about relationships. The most important relationship you can have is with you.""I think most of us in social media realize this -- it's not the media, it's the relationships that are formed that are most important.""Relationships shouldn't be a mirror. It should be a fucking reality check. How can you make me a better person?""This I think is the key to any social media circumstances ... want to ... not because you have to."tags: miami, seesm

Traveling Light
2008-04-07 14:40:00
A funny thing happens when you decide to let go of all your material possessions. You realize that they were never really yours and that those things you do own -- your heart, faith, purpose and love -- are the things that no one person or circumstance can take away from you.An even funnier thing happens when you decide to let go of your attachment to place. You realize that as a spiritual being on a human journey, being rooted anywhere is just a temporary illusion. The most important anchor you have is yourself.I'm getting a divorce and having an affair all at once -- separating from places, people and things that no longer serve me and falling in love with all that truly matters. This is an interior place of peace that only exists within. It doesn't have a name. It's not on any map.

Alexander's Note
2008-05-07 08:00:00
I come from a family that left their homeland with nothing but the clothes on their backs, so it's interesting that I have little, if any, attachment to personal belongings. I detest clutter, but my mother hoards all her countless knick-knacks with the possessive zealousness of a child. Her life is measured by an inventory of things she owns, whereas my life is measured by an inventory of things I've done.I sometimes wonder if her sense of loss inspires the compulsion to be a pack rat; I also wonder if my seeming detachment betrays some fear of loss. This much I do know: what I possess should never possess me.I once promised myself, however, that I'd always keep a treasure chest -- one simple box filled with all the little things that shore up memories.Recently, after making the decisi

Sex and the City of Pleasant Living

As I settle into my new life in South Miami, the city of pleasant living, the possibility of dating again has begun to rear its ugly circumcised head. But what would I know about ugly? I haven't seen a live penis since the pre-construction phase of Stonehenge!Speaking of the past, that's precisely what I'm determined to no longer do. I've put the past behind me. Hurricane Season Boyfriend 2008: Hope Blows
