Chambers Gorge Snapshot with water
2007-02-25 01:55:00
Yesterdays post showed a face of the cliff leading up to this area in todays snapshot of Chambers Gorge. The area is quite rugged and my husband and I found ourselves scrambling over rocks, avoiding stepping in water plus a watchful eye out for snakes and yes we did see one snake; don't know how many saw us though!Click here to steal a 680kb snapshotQuick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Emailfirst post for Chambers Gorge technorati tags: Snapshot, image, photo, landscape, chambers Gorge, water, rugged, snakes

Chambers Gorge

The next painting that I would like to tackle is from the area known as Chambers Gorge in the Flinders Ranges. There are massive creeks that run into this area and look out if you get caught in a flash food. These floods have been know to bury Four Wheel Drives in this Gorge.Click for 652kb snapshotQuick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email Take a look at my Arts & Stuff BlogArts and Stuff with Susan Borgas website technorati tags: Snapshots, chambers gorge, flash flood, flinders, flinders ranges, images, photos, free, free snapshots, free photos, free images

Pigeon

This snapshot was taken on the jetty at Moonta Bay. Often there was a seagull with a group of these pigeons. Fisherman at Moonta Bay

With the help from members of the WetCanvas forum, I managed to shrink what was a very large file to an acceptable level for this blog. The thread can be found here.My problem was very jagged edges once downsized. After some experimenting I decided to use "Bicubic Sharper" with PhotoShop without using the "Save to Web" function. The image is larger but because I want this blog to provide good quality images (I promise to get better ) the file will be larger. I will try and remember to put the size of the file with the link so that you have some warning if on a dial-up connection.Click to view 624kb imageQuick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Emai technorati tags: boat, sea, moonta bay, wet canvas, wetcanvas, forum, wetcanvas forum, bicubic sharper, photoshop, save to web, photos, snapshots, images

Kissing in the Rain
2007-02-15 10:47:00
Well these two are enjoying a cuddle in the rain with a kiss on the cheek from him!Being farmers, rain is an exciting time for us. The land has been parched for so long over the past few years that it is a wonderful time. There was light East and West of the homestead here. The photo shot from my veranda to my sons home is looking South. This one is to the East which can be seen from my studio window. If you look carefully you can see the rainbow. As quickly as I am writing this the sun is setting.Good night my friends, peace!Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email Take a look at my Arts & Stuff BlogArts and Stuff with Susan Borgas website technorati tags: rain, rainbow, kissing in the rain

Looking through Water

Another snap from my holiday at Moonta. I don't necessary take pretty pictures at all times but do try to keep things interesting. I just love the way light plays on and through water then to sparkle and play, touching what sits below on the bottom of the seabed.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: sea, holiday, snap, pretty pictures

Hello there!!!
2007-01-24 04:14:00
After finding out that snapshots could not be uploaded to my blog via the Internet Café when signing into the caravan park at Moonta Bay they told me that the Community Library does supply the internet to anyone that cares to use it. As I am on holidays I chose not to continue daily to contribute to my blogs but rather show an occasional post so that you know I have not forgotten you.The day before my husband and I left home we had good rains. With the water draining off the rubble roads enough for us to travel with a caravan hooked up behind us we headed off for our holiday destination. Because we knew there was still rough weather to come it was decided to hold off putting our annex up until it had passed. The first night wasn't too bad but gee the second night the wind certainly belted the tents and caravans around in the holiday park.By the third night the sea was like glass. The storms have passed bringing much needed rain in some parts of Australia though for many, still not b

Days End
2007-01-18 10:14:00
This photo was chosen for todays post as I felt it was appropriate to the sun setting on my last entry to this blog for the next couple of weeks. In saying this there is a possibility of an occasional post if the Internet Cafe in the area that I am holidaying in is available. Now getting back to this sunset, the snapshot wasn't taken today as we have had glorious rain all day. With the drought that Australia has been experiencing, our farm included it is a wonderful time. The sunset snapshot was taken on one of my earlier walks on the farm.So there you have it, no more walks on the farm for the next two weeks though that doesn't mean I won't be walking at all. The scenery will be very different though with the sun setting over the sea instead while feeling the moist sand between my toes on the beach. Cheers my friends! Lutheran Church
2007-01-17 11:46:00
A little Lutheran Church at Fullerville in the Southern Flinders Ranges is one of a few buildings left in that area. This building is now someones home after renovations where made to the interior with two levels taking advantage of the hight of the building. As churches amalgamate there are many buildings left behind that make a wonderful home for someone that has the imagination to make it their own. This is one of those dwellings that has been brought back to life with love and care by a person that had the foresight to see a future in such a building.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email Take a look at my Arts & Stuff BlogArts and Stuff with Susan Borgas website technorati tags: Lutheran church, home, fullerville, sourthern flinders ranges, buildings, renovations, dwellings, imagination

Bearded Dragon
2007-01-14 04:22:00
There are often Bearded Dragon Lizards foraging in my garden during the warmer months. It isn't uncommon for lizards like this one in the snapshot to follow me around in the garden bed waiting for an easy meal to appear. This young fella was so cheeky that I was afraid that he would end up trodden on when chasing small flies around my husbands feet when cooking a barbecue. To be honest I don't know if this Bearded Dragon is a female or male. I do love having them in my garden though snakes are another story. Snapshot of a Bee on Gazania Flower
2007-01-06 05:45:00
My husband is a beekeeper of a small number of hives which keeps him out of mischief with a hobby besides working our farm. I have never been stung by a bee and never want to experience it either. My dear husband tells me it is supposed to be good for arthritis.... yeah right thanks but no thanks I will stick with the arthritis .This snapshot of a bee on a Gazania Flower is more than likely from the hives that are in the old fruit garden north of my home. They are friendly and while working in the garden, it isn't uncommon for them to be buzzing around parts of the garden that I am working in.As in my previous post this snapshot was taken with my Nikon E5700 and often took a mighty macro image when it come to flowers. technorati tags: Snapshots, gazania, flower, arthritis, Nikon, Nikon E5700, bee, beesQuick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email

Worlds End Gorge
2007-01-05 02:28:00
Worlds End Gorge or what used to be known as Burra Creek is a lovely camping spot in South Australia. There is permanent water in the gorge although it is better to walk further in from the camping grounds to see the deeper water. While visiting, a yabby was spotted crawling around in the transparent water. It has been said that fish are also in these waters but can't say that any were spotted. This snapshot was taken back in July 2005 using my Nikon E5700 camera, which has now been retired with the barrel showing signs of wear from zooming in and out. "Thankfully I have thousands of photos to that cameras credit"Thankfully I have thousands of photos to that cameras credit and is now my back-up camera for the time I may have a dreadful breakdown with my new DSLR Nikon D80 and oh how I hope that is far into the future.I haven't had a chance to paint anything from the Burra area as I am so busy painting for the Painters of the Flinders Ranges network. More photos will be posted on SnapS

New Growth
2007-01-03 07:16:00
This post is is to add a bit more to the one yesterday. The Peppermint Box Eucalyptus trees have suffered a lot during the drought and after some recent rain the trees bust out in all different directions with new growth. The sun shining on the new growth on this low branch caught my attention and decided to post it on Snapshots rather than concentrating only on "pretty pictures".New Growth If you are a fist time visitor to SnapShots do check out my other blog at Arts & Stuff because that one has been around a lot longer with many more interesting posts to keep you busy reading. technorati tags: arts & stuff, snapshots, new growth

It's a tough life
2007-01-02 08:25:00
It's a tough life for this Peppermint Box Eucalyptus tree on our farm or should I say it is laying down on the job while growing. With a number of scrubs on the property made up of these Eucalyptus trees it keeps the possums very happy. I can't say that the possum pee is a welcome smell though for those people down wind of these local marsupials habitat. Steal it! technorati tags: Eucalyptus tree, tree, possum

Gum blossoms & macro flower
2006-12-27 07:43:00
The garden has freshened up after 82 points of rain that the heavens decided to bestow on us recently and is lovely after such a long dry spell. My garden does lack flower s other than the odd one that decides to burst open. The farmyard has many native Eucalyptus gum trees that surround the two houses and sheds on the property. It helps keep the wind down though with age the bottoms of the trees are thinning out allowing a lot more blustery weather to whip around the garden.Tomorrow I will post an old gum tree with its twists and turns that I painted many years ago and was the beginning of my love affair trying to perfect a way to paint them. Until then I hope you enjoy these two photos today.Steal it!Steel it!........take note of the ants crawling over the blossoms technorati tags: Eucalyptus trees, tree, ants, flower, blossoms, macro flower, garden

If you have ever heard the "Silly Galah" term before, these quick snaps will help you to understand why. You can also read more about it from the Wikipendia for Australian slang terms.Steal it!Yesterday these Galah's were playing out in the light rain here at the farm yesterday. I wish I had time to grab my tripod but for the time I had this was the best that I could do. As you can see the sky is very grey although it does compliment the pink feathers with these comical birds. Yes they are a silly Galah ;) !Steal it! technorati tags: Silly Galah, galah, photo, photoghrapy, SnapShots, free

Chambers Gorge, onwards we go!
2007-03-02 08:16:00
Ok.... on with the chambers gorge series of photos. By the time Malcolm (husband) and I had reached this area the flies were driving us nuts and that is an understatement! To get to this area we pushed through some thick native vegetation and even met a couple of university students who were cataloging the species of plants found in this area.We didn't walk through the gap as time was against us. The students had informed us that there was indeed a spring in this area which we found. That photo will be posted next. The rock pool painting from the Chambers Gorge area that I am presently working on isn't going to be posted today even though I have worked most of today on it. Chambers Gorge, waterhole
2007-03-05 00:05:00
Click and steal a 642k SnapshotThis is another snapshot from deep in Chambers Gorge. I have to admit to being a little disappointed when Malcolm and I found the water hole, as it was just basically lower area of the creek bed without any vegetation growing around it; well other than the tree growing out of the side of the rock as you see in this image. The eucalyptus tree is certainly a very tough one!The waterhole wasn't all that big although there seemed plenty of depth to it, which I couldn't see because the breeze was coming down the gorge constantly in this area and rippling the water. I would have loved to have been able to take a photo of reflections in the water but knowing that we had to head back from where we had come, which was quite a distance and the time waiting for the water to level out wasn't available. There is photos to come from this area so watch out for them.If you haven't done so, check out the oil painting that I am working on at my Arts & Stuff blog. Steal a 648k snapshotIt is getting late and while Malcolm waits patiently in the Patrol I happily snap away to get some more photos as I know it will be quite some time before we visit this area again. It wasn't until after I posted the first photo of this area to SnapShots that I regretted not starting from the very beginning of the trip by way of telling a story for the whole day. It is something for me to remember to do in future. This last photo of the sun setting over Wilpena Pound was taken to close our daylight hours to a very big day on the road. This was the only stop that we made as the later the day became the more kangaroos we had to avoid hitting as they came out to feed. It was quite a relief to get back to Wilpena Pound caravan and camp grounds where we were staying at the time I was artist in residence.Steal a 323k snapshotFor those that are not familiar with Blog Feeds I have made it easy for you to subscribe to updates by using an email subscription.
