Back from the bush!
2007-03-28 04:22:00
G'day I am home!!!As much as I would have liked to update SnapShots while on the road it just wasn't going to happen. In two weeks we traveled over four and a half thousand miles and visited a lot of places and have to admit to being Bushed by the time Malcolm and I made our way back to the caravan that we were towing. As this is the internet where caravan has different meanings , the first snapshot will help explain what I am talking about. That photo was taken of our first night at Broken Hill.Steal a 576kb snapshotOur second day on the road; this photo was taken at a rest area twenty one kilometers East of Wilcannia. The country side was constantly changing and if we stopped for photos to catch the different scenery, we would need more time away than our two weeks that had been allowed for this trip.More photos are yet to come of our trip.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email Take a look at my Arts & Stuff BlogArts and Stuff with Susan Borgas website technorati t

Copeton Dam, New South Wales
2007-03-31 03:20:00
Click and steal a 446kb snapshotThe main reason for our trip interstate was to visit Malcolm's uncle and aunty. For the next few days we did just that although in no way did we stay idle. People that have lived in a region for a large number of years make the best guides to show their visitors what is on offer. Copeton Dam was one of these places that we visited while staying with our wonderful hosts and both Malcolm and I thank you for your hospitality and what you did for us.Although Copeton Dam is extremely low with what capacity it will hold, it was a pleasure to see. I stitched two photos together to help show of this little oasis. One day I would like to see this area full to capacity with water.I am going to organise another photo yet of this dam so stay tuned for it.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: image, photo, landscape, snapshots, copeton dam

Gwydir River, Moree
2007-03-30 08:37:00
Moree was the town that we spent our third night in a caravan park. After unhitching our caravan we explored the town, finding this spot near a parkland that the Gwydir River ran through. The water is discoloured after recent rains at the same time adding a compliment colour to the greens. I hope you like it.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: Moree, Gwydir River, caravan

Click for 318 image of a SeagullWell I didn't see Easter Bunny but this bird tended to make a nuisance of itself when I was trying to take a seascape photo. I walked to the left and it did the same as well as moving to the right, the gull followed, but of cause it had to stand between me and the photo I wanted to take.Click for 281kb image of Sunset at Port BroughtonThere is usually a good sunset at Easter time at Port Broughton and this year was no exception.Click for 497kb image of Port Broughton SeascapeI wouldn't say Port Broughton has a beautiful beach but at the same time it is an interesting one. I stitched three photos together in an attempt to give you a general idea of what the coastline looks like that is neighbouring the edge of the caravan park that my husband and I were staying at.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: images, Port Broughton, snapshots, photo, seagull, beach, sunset

Wollomombi Falls, New South Wales
2007-04-12 01:40:00
Click for free 626kb Wollomombi Falls snapshotIn the local Aboriginal dialect “Wollomombi’ comes from the word ‘Wollumbi’, which means “meeting of the waters”. The Wollomombi and Chandler rivers meet at this gorge. The Wollomombi Falls is one of Australia’s highest waterfalls with a drop of 260 metres. I would love to see these falls at their peak flowing time, as I believe it would have to be magnificent to see. The waters of the falls heads South , joining the Macleay river on its journey to the Pacific Ocean at South West Rocks.Click for free 679kb Wollomombi Falls path snapshotThe photo of the path leading to the falls fascinated me with the moss and lichen growing over moist areas that the mist from the falls created.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by EmailNew South Wales Wollomombi Falls snapshots free Aboriginal dialect

Sherrard Falls, New South Wales
2007-04-18 00:16:00
Click for a 648kb snapshotWaterfall Way in the Dorrigo Mountains in New South Wales was a real eye opener for me because I have never seen a rain forest before. It was like being in a different country and now fully understand how diverse Australia is with its landscape and I have so much more to experience, as this is only early days with more traveling yet as time permits. With Malcolm's uncle and aunt as tour guides we had lunch at the Sherrard Falls , that rushes underneath the road with a constant roar. It is a magical place with winding roads with sheer drops that were mostly covered with dense tall straight trees, shrubbery and the most beautiful ferns that I have ever seen. As I don't like heights that might have been just as well that I couldn't always see the drop beside the road although I did have the attitude that this opportunity to see a glorious area such as Waterfall Way, my fear of heights was kept firmly to the back of my mind. Um though there is another time later

Hot off the Press!

Click to steal 514kb mob of sheep snapshotAs a farmers wife, one of my jobs is a taxi driver for the men when moving farm machinery from one area on the farm to the next. As it is a dewy morning I grabbed my camera knowing that there would be light bouncing back up off the dampness with the possibility of good colours.Click to steal 558kb landscape snapshotThis is the paddock that my husband Malcolm and our son Shaun will be sowing today. Because the drought last season did not produce well, the men are direct drilling the seed straight into the ground. This will save unnecessary stress on the soil plus save cost to us as farmers. The paddock was sprayed yesterday to kill the weeds to make sure they do not survive and compete with this seasons crop.Click to steal 531kb farm machinery snapshotLooking into a different direction you can see this part of the paddock is very green. Malcolm is filling up the combine ready for Shaun to sow the paddock. While dad is busy doing his job, Shaun

The Gwydir Highway

Click and steal a 444kb snapshotOk onwards bound with my NSW holiday snapshots with Coffs Habour now left behind. If you are new to this blog and wonder what this holiday is about all you need to do is click on the NSW holiday Label at the bottom of this post or in the side bar. This image was taken from the Gwydir Highway between Grafton and Glen Innes. The vegetation is so thick that there isn't always an opportunity to see right out over the landscape. Another reason was when there are good views, there are no safe areas to pull over on the side of the road. The main reason for posting this snapshot is to show you how high we actually traveled without actually flying. Rooster

Butterfly on Yellow Daisy
2007-05-08 02:25:00
Click & steal butterfly on yellow daisy 299kb snapshot Not owning a macro lens for my DSLR D80 Camera I have to make do with the lenses that I have. This will be remedied when I have the cash to spare…. It will be awhile yet! This image was cut from a poster size snapshot and all things considered it turn out reasonably good. These butterflies are small with a huge volume flying around my head when trying to capture one that would stay still long enough. When the light caught the varied blue and purple on their body, it actually glowed as if iridescent. A great compliment to the more warm dusty colour of their wings. I have another of these to post tomorrow from a different angle. It will also show that the amount of colour does vary on these little butterflies. Maybe that is due to their age or perhaps the gender? Old Cow Shed
2007-05-14 07:27:00
click and steal 694kb snapshotThis snapshot was taken back in January 2007 on the family farm. The building was used for sheltering cattle that are no longer a part of our farm for a large number of years now.As you can see the old building has decayed badly and very little of the straw roof remaining. Malcolm did recycle some of the stones from the fallout for our garden, which is nice because I feel that I have some of the farm history incorporated into my garden. The low golden sunlight on the wall was something that always caught my eye when walking in the evening and thought to myself; hey why not share it with you all!One last little thing that you maybe interested in, I was tagged to tell stories about myself. If you would like to know more just head over to my other blog and read this post. Click and steal 437kb flower snapshotThis snapshot was taken while on holidays in New South Wales. I have no idea if it is native to Australia or not.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: photo, snapshot, image, free photos, free image, flower

If you click on the 'NSW holiday' at the base of this blog entry you will see all my post about this holiday.Chaffey Dam was a pleasant place to visit when we left the Tamworth caravan park to do a day of touring. The purpose of this dam is for regulation of the natural flow of the Peel River to meet irrigation, stock and domestic requirements in the Peel River Valley. Click and steal 363kb snapshot of Chaffey DamThis view was captured from the opposite side of Chaffey Dam to yesterdays snapshot that was posted. As you can see the light looks very different with an overall darker appearance and some loss of bright colour. Still though a very peaceful scene and would have loved to have been able to stay on the banks of this dam with out caravan while holiday in New South Wales.Actually way over in the distance in the left of this photo, there is a bush caravan park. My husband and I didn't investigate the park therefore can't say what the conditions are like but can certainly say the surroundings are the ultimate relaxing holiday you could have. There is also fish in this dam if you are into some light recreation. The next post will be still about this days drive so watch out for that one. The Big Golden Guitar, Tamworth

Click to steal 400kb snapshot of the Big Golden Guitar This post isn't about pretty pictures because I am posting two touristy images that I took while Malcolm and I stayed at Tamworth.Tamworth is the home of the Big Golden Guitar with a lot of history associated with the country music industry in Australia.Click to steal 501kb snapshot of the Longyard HotelThe Longyard Hotel is behind the building that you see in the Golden Guitar image. The Longyard Hotel was lovely to view and did look out of place with the surrounding area consisting of shops/stores and homes.Oh and the red that we sampled back at the caravan park was a nice drop that we purchased from the Longyard bottle shop. Hanging Rock Lookout
2007-05-28 03:39:00
Click and steal 603kb snapshot from Hanging Rock LookoutThis entry carries on from the last two posts because our next destination is a lookout called Hanging Rock, which was our main destination for that particular drive. Some of you may remember that I do not appreciate heights. To get to Hanging Rock Lookout in New South Wales was the worse feeling I had towards this fear of heights although the more I did of this sort of thing the less apprehension I tend to feel.In this snapshot you can see the road we travelled on although once reaching the lookout turnoff it was no more than a rubble goat track around the side of the mountain. Thankfully there was no travelers coming from the opposite direction as the road was very narrow. One thing I have learnt from this experience is to sit on the side of the vehicle that is closest to the edge of the road. This way you are aware that the drop is further away than it looks when sitting on the opposite side because I could only see open distance

Keepit Dam
2007-05-31 21:35:00
The still water of Lake Keepit or as some call it Keepit Dam is a beautiful oasis in New South Wales. With a huge area damed off with a caravan park on the banks of the Lake it is a lovely place to stay, which Malcolm and myself did for one night after leaving Tamworth.I would love to stay again at this caravan park when the lake is near to capacity because at the time of our visit the water level was only four percent. Still though there was still a lot of water to be seen with water sports for young and old. After an extremely hot day we were rewarded with a lovely sunset that lit up this cloud with beautiful colours...... sigh to be back there again would mean my holiday isn't over yet.Quick links:Free Subscription to SnapShots by Email technorati tags: free images, photos, snapshots, holiday

Click to steal 418kb image from Siding Spring ObservatoryContinuing on with our New South Wales holiday the weather at the time we stayed at Coonabarabran had the feeling of rain in the air and by the time we made our way out to the Siding Spring Observatory it did just that.Click to steal 420 image from Siding Spring ObservatoryThe soft rain added a gentle atmospheric depth to the images but must admit I would have liked clear skies for the second snapshot to have the red of the rocks jumping out of the mountains, as I have seen in brochures. Still it was a pleasure to stand in front of these mountains.Click to steal a 668kb image of KangarooMalcolm and I met this very large kangaroo when walking down from the observatory. He wasn't scared of us but have to admit I was wary of him and those big powerful legs that can kick out because he was in no hurry to move away. I gather from the many visiting tourist to his territory, he is used to seeing them intrude on his patch. This holiday
