ASUS Eee PC 4G XP
2008-04-17 09:34:27
The first ASUS Eee PC took the world by storm because of its low price, ultra-light weight, fast performance, and easy-to-use, tabbed menu system. But while the Linux edition of this machine was fairly intuitive, consumers are simply more comfortable with Windows, which can run many more popular applications.Same Eee PC Size and WeightThe Eee PC 4G XP uses the same exact chassis as the Linux/Xandros version and is offered in five color schemes (Galaxy Black, Pure White, Blush Pink, Sky Blue, and Lush Green). Our review system was done up in Pure White, which features a pearly, low-luster finish that is impervious to fingerprint smudges. Measuring 8.9 x 6.3 x 0.8 inches, the system easily fits in an oversized handbag or slim briefcase, and at 2 pounds you’ll hardly know its there. The whit

Dell felt it was time to shake up the tablet market with its first ever convertible, the Latitude XT. And shake it up it does: The system is the first convertible to employ capacitive touch technology for its display, which means you can manipulate the screen better than ever before with your fingers. The capacitive touch also helps future-proof your purchase, in that it will support multi-touch applications when those become available. We also like that you can configure this convertible with a solid state drive and mobile broadband. The lightweight and secure Dell Latitude XT is one of a kind, but for a whopping $3,321, we wish it offered longer endurance without having to splurge for the nine-cell battery.Dell Latitude XT Design and ErgonomicsThere is no doubt that the XT belongs in Del

Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium Review

Samsung once again seeks to offer a dose of UMPC love to mobile professionals (and this time around, students of higher education) with the $1,299 Q1 Ultra Premium . Although it features tablet functionality and weighs just 1.9 pounds, we once again scratched our heads and wondered if this device is seeking to fill a niche that doesn’t exist.Polarizing DesignThe Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium features a split QWERTY keyboard that resides on both sides of the bright and sharp 7-inch, 1440 x 900-pixel LED display, similar to the PepperPad ok or Wibrain B1E. Getting accustomed to typing URLs and quick e-mails took us only a few minutes. If the split-keyboard design isn’t to your liking, the Q1 also lets you punch out letters on a virtual keyboard with the stylus, or go the more natural route by u
