Gendang- The Traditional Drum
2008-04-10 09:14:00
Despite the popularity of contemporary music, traditional Malay music is still performed at many ceremonial occasions in Malaysia. One of the main tradiditonal instruments is the gendang, or drum. There are at least 14 types of gendang; each can be differentiated by its size, shape, sound and usage. Gendang Jawa is a double headed barrel drum with two different-sized 'heads', found in Javanese gamelan (a Malay musical ensemble). The gendang nobat, on the other hand, is only used in nobat, a royal orchestra consisting of four or five members playing different instruments, and performed only at official and royal ceremonies. During a performance, the gendang is laid across the seated player's lap and is played by slapping the two ends with both handsm in rhythmic beats. Depending on the speed

Parenting Tip
2008-04-10 08:50:00
Looking after our little angels....well...sometimes, devils! Your little one's first swearing episode may seem funny at first, but don't laugh! Most children under three won't understand that certain words are unacceptable. Often, ignoring the offence may be the defence when dealing with the every young. But after their third birthday, they're more likely to understand that some words are naughty, so take action: Get down on your knees, look your child directly in the eye and tell him/her: "That's a word we don't use in our family." If he/she persists in using such language, show him/her you mean business with disciplined action. For a four-year-old, this may mean calling a short time-out, taking away a favourite toy, or limiting time for TV or video games. Kids a little older may benefit

Troubles selling your property?
2008-04-10 08:25:00
I've just received a call from one of my best friends, and she doesn't sound too happy. Well, my friend and her husband have been trying to sell off their 2-storey semi detached house recently and so far, they have not heard anything from the agent, and no one seemed to be interested in the house too. It's really tough, especially when they need the money to settle in a smaller house- an apartment just a few minutes away from my house. I just knew about her problem and straight away recommended Properties Direct for quick property sale. Me and hubby sold our old city house recently via Properties Direct, and I couldn't happier with the service I received. We contacted Properties Direct for quick property sale and within a week, our house was sold without any hassles. Worry not about all th

Prison Break
2008-04-09 23:14:00
How to help your friend or family member trapped in an abusive relationship: The goal is contact, not pressure. Running your friend's boyfriend down offers them ammunition that you are trying to ruin a wonderful relationship. Hold on loosely. regular calls to your boyfriend are less threatening to Stockholm Syndrome Men. Phone at the same time each week. Monthly shopping visits together are a good idea too. Give information rather than ask questions. For example, the news that her brother just passed his driving test, reminds her that there is a whole family waiting in the wings. Listen and be sympathetic but wait for her to ask for help.

My Dream Bedroom
2008-04-09 22:52:00
What's the favourite room in your house? Mine would definitely be the bedroom, that's where my day begins each day and it's again the bedroom that I end my day. At the moment, I have an ordinary bedroom, nothing much to brag about, just the basics...but I sure would love to have a beautiful fairy-like bedroom! Hmmm....what's important to create a beautiful ambiance in a bedroom is the bedroom furniture, together with the soft furnishing. I sure have my beautiful fitted bedrooms dreams and my ideal bedroom would look like this.....close your eyes and imagine...The bedroom needs to be big, big enough to fit a wood platform king sized bed together with a lazy leather couch by the side. It also needs to have matching wardrobe and dressing table- well, did I forget to mention that I want a walk

Stockholm Syndrome
2008-04-09 09:48:00
Stockholm Syndrome is psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger (or at least risk) in which the hostage has been placed. Stockholm syndrome is also sometimes discussed in reference to other situations with similar tensions, such as battered person syndrome, rape cases, child abuse cases and bride kidnapping. How to spot a Stockholm Syndrome Man?Give him the waitress test. Does he complain, torment and generally treat service staff like dirt? What about his ex? Does he tell stories about a mad, angry, stupid or ungrateful woman?Does he give reassurances that you didn't ask for? For example, that he never gets drunk or would never actually hit a woman? Is he proud od nad behaviour? For

Mobile Phones in aeroplanes
2008-04-05 00:50:00
Electronic devices such as personal stereos can be used once the plane has reached its cruising altitude. Use of these devices cannot be used during take off and landing. The use of mobile phones are not permitted at any time while onboard the aircraft. Firstly, because there is a risk of interference to aircraft systems from the transmissions. This (previously theoretical) risk was confirmed by experiments carried out by the UK CAA in February 2000, when they carried out simulated mobile phone transmissions inside two aircraft. The second reason why using mobile phones in aircraft is not a good idea is that the GSM mobile phone network was not designed with airborne handsets in mind. Two aspects of the system contribute to interference which is likely to adversely affect other users of the

Whenever I hang out with my friends, we normally go out for coffee, stay at home and play online games or otherwise, the new addiction is poker! At first, I felt so alienated whenever my friends play poker, since I know nothing about this game. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall.....
2008-04-01 22:39:00
There's a wedding to attend to this weekend, and this is when I would actually try to look my best! LOL Hey, no, not that I am trying to find or attract anyone at the venue, but I feel best when I look best! hahahahahah However, there's one thing I hate when I look into my dressing table mirror to apply makeup- somehow I feel like that mirror is not doing much justice on how I truely look?! Don't get me? OK, first of all, it's impossible to look really close to the mirror, even if I do, then, it looks all blurred up! All I need to apply make up on is a good magnifying mirror! I did a little research online (well, not too late to get one before the function) and saw this amazing magnifying mirrors website. OH MY GOOD! Do they have the best looking magnifying mirrors ever? There's a wide ran

Shopping
2008-04-01 10:51:00
I've been busy all day today shopping for the perfect top to wear for my birthday party. I've entered and tried on like 10 tops, but none I liked! Furthermore, the choices are kinda limited, and the ones which I actually did love, were either out of size or otherwise were all sold out! arghhhh Actually, to be frank, I do prefer online shopping a lot! It's totally not tiring and you get to shop from the comfort of your own home, with a steaming cup of coffee! LOL I did went through a few sites, and clicked on a few items (tops and skirts of course) to fill up my shopping cart! Awesome- and they do have what I like in my size!!!! Talking about online shopping, have you ever wondered how do they get your items on the shopping carts- as if you are really shopping in store? How do they even com

Careful of Internet Cheats
2008-03-31 09:36:00
This posting is solely on my ranting! I've been fooled- big time! Believe that or not- yes, I hate those horrible marketing tricks which con you into doing/ buying what you didn't want to pay/ buy/ receive service from! A few months back, there was an ad on the net for some cool ringing tones, and yes, there were some tones there which I love and I'd like to have for my new mobile phone. Anyway, the ad says 50 cents for a single tone, so, I totally bought it! Anyway, that was the ONE and ONLY ringing tone I bought from the site, and yes, it said in the site that it is ONE TIME PAYMENT ONLY- no additional/ extra costs. Anyway, long story short, at the end of the month, I received my phone bill and guess what? $10 was taken from my bill for the 'ringing tone monthly fee'. What the #$%^&*

Am I Beautiful?
2008-03-30 22:21:00
Why do I feel unpretty sometimes? Why do I feel very low about myself at times? I hate it as it makes my self esteem go down to the drains. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but come on, I have a mirror and I see what others see too. Maybe, I am just over reacting, but hey, can't a lady vent out what she has in her mind and heart? Maybe I need to listen to Christina Aguilera -Beautiful ? hmmmm yeah, maybe I should!Every day is so wonderfulAnd suddenly, i saw debrisNow and then, I get insecureFrom all the pain, I'm so ashamedI am beautiful no matter what they sayWords can't bring me downI am beautiful in every single wayYes, words can't bring me downSo don't you bring me down todayTo all your friends, you're deliriousSo consumed in all your doomTrying hard to fill the emptinessThe

Finally- Home Audio Set!
2008-03-28 11:33:00
I am sure, almost everyone has gone through the phase where we need to get the 'PERFECT' birthday gifts for our loved ones, and we end up getting all confused about what to buy. Sometimes, having several options help, however, at times, options create confusion too! LOL Why am I saying all these? Well, my boyfriend's birthday is just around the corner, and for the last 2 months, I've been thinking and wondering what I should get him. Well, I shortlisted a few- namely, some electronics gadgets. There's another idea in my mind, which I think he (and me) would love- a holiday! Wouldn't that be a great gift for both of us to have our own time out? Hmmmmmmmm Buying electronic gadgets can be expensive. While browsing through some of these, I came across wholesale from China website called, light

People Search using Spock

I am not sure about you, but there's been several times that I search for people- yes PEOPLE SEARCH on the web. You know, like information about my favourite artiste, information about models in Brazil or even a long lost celebrity friend. Of course, the people search using search engine could be a pain, and there are times, you might not even get any information on the 'people' you want. Anyway, there's a new search engine called Spock , which is a great, new and free people search and also information search similar to Google and Wikipedia. Road Less Traveled

I love poetries, I used to write a few, and I have a collection of my favourite poems too. This one in particular is one of my favourites! I want to have each every favourite of mine in this blog, so that one day, I could go through them and will never loose them...ROAD LESS TRAVELED Two roads diverged in a yellow wood And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth Then took the other as just as fair And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same And both that morning equally l

Escali's stylish digital scales
2008-04-11 19:33:00
I am a weight freak- I mean, it's fine to loose weight for me, but to gain even 200g is a huge panic attack! LOL I weigh myself every single day, call me obsessed, call me a freak- that's fine by me!!! Of course, because of my 'weight obsession', I do own a digital scale at home- and the best one so far is definitely the Escali digital scales- which in my opinion, is the most stylish, fashionable and also affordable. There are a few great models when it comes to Escali digital scales and the one I just bought was a Granda Escali. There are several other cool scales such as the Avia, BFBW200, Keso and Primo. Even looking at the shape and design itself would surely tempt you to buy- after looking at the price, you are even sure to get one for yourself! :) For the full range of models and pric

What do you do when you're feeling a bit down? Raid the fridge, call a friend, get drunk, or have a good cry? According to new research, these common methods are all pretty useless. So what can you do? Do's and Don'ts.
