“Maggie” – Her Story 2008-06-04 07:17:00 “Everyone has a story…if only the world would listen.” – My Mother
This is the second in a series on people I have either known or met in my life. Some notable, some not so notable and some you would rather not have ever met. The first in the series was Mr. Mullane – His Story. You can read that one by hitting the link.
As I have stated several times before (maybe too many times) Read more:Maggie
Doctor Visit 2008-06-06 07:02:00 Yesterday I went for my semi-annual checkup to my primary care physician. You get the idea it’s time when you don’t get any refills on your prescriptions. That always irritates me for some reason. My checkup always seems to fall into a time frame when I can least afford to go to the doctor. Of course, not going to the doctor, when you are in the middle age range, is playing with fire. Wit Read more:Doctor
D-Day Reflections 2008-06-07 08:07:00 I feel terrible about not making an entry about one of the most honored days in American history, D-Day, yesterday. I am limiting myself to one post a day so as not to bore the many (and I especially appreciate certain readers from Warner Robbins, GA and Pompano Beach, FL) readers to this blog. I appreciate you all very much.
I won’t make a long entry today (for me) because I feel so guilty

Battle at Kruger: The Mini Version 2008-06-07 19:12:00 I’m sure many of you have seen the astonishing video on YouTube called “Battle
at Kruger
.” I believe National Geographic did a special on it a couple of weeks ago. To briefly summarize, a pack of young lions attack water buffalo calf, takes him into a large watering hole and the battle begins. The lions struggle to take the calf out of the water when a huge crocodile grabs hold of the cal
Tuesday’s Rambling Thoughts – June 10, 2008 2008-06-10 06:52:00 Hillary, you finally admitted defeat. Actually, I was quite surprised that she conceded. It’s not the Clinton way of doing things. The Clinton way of doing things is do what you have to do to win, legal or illegal. It doesn’t matter to this power “couple.” By dragging this campaign out for so long, she may well have cost the Democrats a chance to win the White House when everything ha Read more:Tuesday

The Recurring Dream 2008-06-09 07:12:00 I’m sure most, if not all, reading this blog has had a “recurring dream” at one time period in their life. The first one I can remember is when I was stationed overseas while serving in the U.S. Navy. I had this dream once or twice a month. It was usually me on the ground watching a plane crash. I was never on the plane. I’m just watching in horror as it crashes. It was every type of Read more:Dream
Parting Gifts from Katrina 2008-06-11 07:19:00 After any hurricane, especially one as devastating as Hurricane Katrina
, you get a swarm of unscrupulous, manipulative contractors that come in to take advantage. There have been many cases where people have paid out of state roofers $8,000, only to see them skip town after doing only minimal work. It just goes to show, you need to make sure they have a license to operate in your state. If

Violent Weather 2008-06-12 06:45:00 We have had two days of violent thunder and electrical storms here on the gulf coast. Nothing unusual about that. But, yesterday it knocked out power to over 5000 people for a couple of hours. You look at that and say, so what. It’s 90+ temps and 70-80% humidity outside. It’s tough for a lot of people to take, especially the elderly and young. We have gone a couple of weeks with little o
Alexa, You Are So Beautiful! 2008-06-13 06:57:00 Well, I finally did it. I broke the million mark on Alexa
today. I was just doing a little work in layout, saved it and looked at my blog. Lordy, I looked at the little Alexa icon in the left sidebar and did a double take. It was less than a million (although it did change back to 1,153,00 temporarily when I reloaded)! I thought my eyes were playing jokes on me. But, I went to the Alexa

Tim Russert 2008-06-14 07:05:00 Like so many, I was saddened and shocked at hearing the news that NBC newsman/commentator Tim Russert
had died from an apparent heart attack in his office. It was just one of those things coming out of the blue you totally don't expect. I had no idea he had any type of heart disease. In fact, like me, Tim had recently had one of those treadmill stress tests for your heart. Like me, Tim

Woolmarket: The Visit from Aunt Gladys 2008-06-15 06:37:00 This is the fourth in a series on Woolmarket, a time in my life spent in a backwoods, backwater area called Woolmarket, MS. If you would like to read from the beginning, simply type “Woolmarket” in the search box in the top left corner.
As the first summer in Woolmarket began to draw to a close, we received news in the form of a letter that we would be having a visitor from a far away land.
I Feel Bad 2008-06-16 07:15:00 I went to the same local restaurant yesterday morning (prior to Father’s Day dinner, although I am not officially a father) just as I do almost every morning. As I was seated in the non-smoking section, my usual waitress (for the past four months anyway) did not come to my table to take my order. Most times I order breakfast. But, sometimes I just like to drink coffee and read my newspaper.
Tuesday’s Rambling Thoughts – June 17, 2008 2008-06-17 06:56:00 My nephew, at long last, received the government stimulus check in the mail yesterday. Unfortunately, it was not for the $600.00 that he had been told he would receive in a letter just last week. It was for $300.00 instead. He called the toll free number that was in the enclosed envelope in case the check was in error. They told my nephew he needed to send the check back and they would

Home Invasions 2008-06-19 07:00:00 It is no longer safe to be in your home. You’re not even safe in broad daylight. In my city alone, there have been at least two incidents within the past three weeks when people at home were terrorized by criminals. In both cases, their front doors were knocked down. In both cases, it was meth addicts who were responsible. In both cases, it was early afternoon. They were looking for money
Blog Ads 2008-06-18 07:15:00 Regulars here may have noticed I no longer have any ads on my blog. I’ve had everything from Adsense, to Adbrite to Widgetbucks. I made money off some and nothing off of others. The one I made the most money on was Claxon. I wasn’t making enough for that dream vacation to Hawaii. But, enough to pay for breakfast at the local restaurant I frequent (or did until they fired my favorite
I Just Don’t Have Much Luck… 2008-06-30 06:58:00 …with women. Since my divorce in 2005, I am now 0 for 5 (or, as a “friend” of mine said, 0 for Alabama).. Saturday night, my girlfriend, or rather, my ex-girlfriend and I decided to call it quits since we don’t see eye to eye on a few things. It basically boiled down to a couple of things. One, she wanted me to move in with her. Been there, done that. It ain’t going to happen again.
I Miss “The Sopranos” 2008-06-29 03:30:00 Sunday nights just aren’t the same without “The Sopranos
.” In my opinion, this was one of the finest series, if not the absolute best series in television history. Excellent writing, acting and some of the best lines ever. Who can ever forget Junior saying to Tony, in the doctor’s office, “I got feds so far up my ass, I can smell the brell cream.” It seems like Junior always got th
Just a Coincidence 2008-06-28 02:01:00 I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that after just two days of posting “Cardboard Cops” on this blog, I get my first speeding ticket since 1991. Yep, I was ticketed going 40MPH in a 25MPH zone. They were motorcycle cops, well hidden behind bushes and I got nailed. I thought maybe he was just going to tell me to slow down. Hell no, it’s the end of the month and these guys need the money Read more:Coincidence
Good Old Comcast!!! 2008-06-27 06:55:00 I’m not sure how I ever existed without my HD DVR from Comcast
now that I am spoiled by it. Just set it up to record a series and you’re done. You can then watch whatever you want on your TV as your leisure. I simply can’t watch network TV any longer. I love the SCI FI Channel. However, they seemingly have five minute intermissions of commercials. I simply lose focus on whatever I’m
The Walking Man 2008-06-26 07:05:00 There has been this man, about late 60s to early 70s, who has walked in my area of town virtually all day long. I mean, ALL DAY LONG. He apparently has never had a car, and frequently was seen carrying a couple of bags of groceries back to his Section 8 apartment. His name is Robert, but everyone refers to him simply as “The Walking
Man.” Now, you are probably thinking with gas prices being
Cardboard Cops 2008-06-25 07:40:00 In my hometown of Mobile, AL, we have growing litter problem in our streets, sidewalks, parks, etc. City leaders have tried to appeal to people’s pride in the city to help with the litter problem in the past. That didn’t work. They tried “Litter Pickup Day” downtown. That didn’t fare too well either. Entire Boy Scout troops have spent many a Saturday just picking up litter downtown. Read more:Cardboard
Tuesday’s Rambling Thoughts – June 24, 2008 2008-06-24 07:02:00 Sugar Ants. We get them every summer and find it virtually impossible to get rid of them. I have tried boric acid, vinegar, corn meal and an assortment of other home remedies. Nothing is working. I don’t see paying Cook’s Pest Control $40.00/monthly for a year to do this if I can find one proven way to do it. If you know of some remedies that actually work, please let me know. Obama – McCain Battle 2008-06-23 07:10:00 Well, well, well…just when I thought McCain
’s chances of overtaking Obama
in this election were slim and none (ok, and Slim just left town), we get news that he actually out raised Obama by twenty million dollars in May!. That is astounding when you consider the money machine Obama has in place. Senator Obama broke all fund raising records by raising an incredible two-hundred eighty-seven

So, I’m Driving Down I-10… 2008-06-22 07:04:00 …from Mobile, AL to Pascagoula, Ms (about a 40 minute drive), just watching cars zoom by me as I am doing 75MPH, when I see what appears to be the complete wheel of a car hanging from the bottom of a tree. I’m thinking, “That’s sort of unusual.” So, I pull over into the emergency curb, hit the blinkers and get out of my car. I just had to get a second look at this. There was no way t Read more:Driving
Kida: The final shot by the X 2008-06-21 07:12:00 I have always hated cats. Always. I had no use for them. I saw them as the spawn of satan. They filled no void that I could identify. What use were they? At least a dog can provide some sort of security by barking when a stranger comes up. I felt that way about cats until I owned one. My X and I adopted one from an animal shelter who was destined to be euthanized within three days. He was
Faced with a Dilemma 2008-06-20 07:09:00 As I have stated on this blog before, I received disability retirement from my employer due to three different medical conditions I have. One of those medical problems is my back; degenerative lumbar disc disease. I had surgery for a ruptured disc in July of 1995. After my surgery, I had several good months of being free from pain. But, the pain came back with a vengeance after about six
Blog – Medical Leave 2008-07-09 06:56:00 As many who frequent this blog will tell you by now, I have back surgery scheduled at 8AM, Thursday. Doctor says I will be in hospital for 3-5 days. But, he says I won’t leave until I meet certain criteria. One of the criteria is that I have to be able to walk around the nurse’s station at least once. That’s easier said than done. I remember how difficult it was to walk after my first b Read more:Leave
Tuesday’s Rambling Thoughts – July 08, 2008 2008-07-08 07:11:00 Surgery. That is what is on my mind and about the only thing on my mind. My back surgery is set for 8AM, Thursday, July 10. Of course, it was set for about the same time 13 years ago. I didn’t actually go into surgery until about 2PM that afternoon. I was so drugged out on Demerol, I didn’t care. Demerol is some kind of powerful drug. I lost my nervousness real quick when they started

Starbucks Woes 2008-07-07 07:08:00 I freely admit, I have never been a Starbucks
fan. Their coffee was greatly overpriced. I can’t see paying four bucks for a regular cup of coffee or more for a latte. I just never could see the fascination of paying so much for a cup of coffee which, to me, was no better than the coffee I would get for a buck at McDonalds. I honestly mean that. In fact, I prefer McDonald’s coffee to
The Century Mark 2008-07-06 07:02:00 One-hundred posts since April 5th, 2008. Just over three months and, yet, it seems much longer. I say that not because it was difficult. Quite the contrary, writing has always come easy for me. A lot of times, I will sit down to write a blog entry with no idea what I’m going to write about. But, once I get started, it’s like someone else takes over and I just sit idly by and watch. That Read more:Century
