The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
2007-03-05 17:02:37
I just finished this book a few minutes ago and I have to say it’s the best book I’ve read in a really long time. There were many times I just had to put it down and cry. Sad tears and happy tears any kind of tears you can cry I cried them. What’s crazy is that I avoided reading it for a really long time even though it was constantly being recommended to me everywhere I went. I would see it on the shelf at the library, pick it up and then put it right back down. To be honest with you, I had no desire to read a book about war torn Afghanistan. I’m so glad I gave this book a chance and if you haven’t read it then do yourself a favor….read The Kite Runner ! Here’s the text from Amazon.com. In his debut novel, The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini accomplishes what very few contemporary novelists are able to do. He manages to provide an educational and eye-opening account of a country’s political turmoil–in this case, Afghanistan

Comfort Food
2007-03-05 05:26:26
I made this for the kids tonight. It’s a super simple recipe and they love it. Dieters beware! Cheesy Broccoli Chicken and Rice Casserole 3 chicken skinless chicken breast cooked and cubed 2 cups of cooked rice 1 bag of frozen chopped broccoli (steamed) 1 can of Campbell’s cream of chicken soup with herbs 1 can of Campbell’s cheddar cheese soup 1 bag of shredded Cheddar Jack cheese pepper to taste Tony Cacheres Creole Seasoning Preheat oven to 350 and mix the chicken, rice, broccoli, soups, 1 cup of the cheese and seasonings in a big bowl. Then just plop it into a baking dish, top with the rest of the cheese and bake for about 30-40 minutes until the cheese is browned on the edges and bubbly. You can also add sauteed onions and garlic but my kids throw a fit so I just leave it out. You can substitue the cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom but, again, my kids hate it and pick out the mushrooms

Bring on the hand-me-downs!
2007-03-04 22:34:31
Yesterday I got a call from my 8 year old daughter’s best friend’s mom. She was going through her daughter’s outgrown clothes and wanted to know if The Twins wore size 6/6x. I was like, OMGZ YES!!! ’cause I love me some hand-me-downs . So she brought them over last night. The Twins now have more clothes than anybody else in the family put together and will be the best dressed 5 year olds in the state of Lousiana. We are talking, Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren,…all brand name stuff and SO FREAKING MUCH OF IT. As I was going through all the clothes it made me a little sad. This little girl is an only child but no child needs this many clothes. My girls have a very limited wardrobe. Due to our tight budget I have never been able to afford to shop for them like I’d like. They (including the best friend) wear uniforms to school so it’s not like we need a tons of clothes. We have some play outfits, a few church outfit

Soapmaking!
2007-03-06 13:38:10
I’m seriously itching to make some soap. I started making handmade soap from scratch a little over 2 years ago. It’s such an expensive and addictive hobby! I haven’t made any since Christmas, though. I guess I got a little burned out making batch after batch. I’m out of so many ingredients…olive oil being one of them. It’s so dang expensive! I keep my recipe pretty simple but I’ve got to have olive oil. I also need to order some fragrance oils. I like the fruity and foody types of scents. So hmmm, yeah…I want to make soap.

girlsense.com

Tonight I found a super cute site for girls.  You can open your own boutique or salon, play dress up games and all kinds of neato things little girlies like to do. My chickies are going to have a blast playing on it!

What shall I read next?
2007-03-09 20:35:43
Ever finished a book and wondered, “What shall I read next?” Pretty cool little site. This week I’m working on Twilight by Stephanie Meyer and while I’m out and about I’m listening to the audio CD of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova in my van. So far both are going great. Both, believe it or not, are books about vampires. What are you reading?

American Idol results shocker
2007-03-09 13:22:20
So after watching the American Idol results last night I have a few things say. First of all, I am sad that Haley made it in over Sabrina. Sabrina has major talent and I totally had her pegged for top 12 from the beginning. Haley has a nice voice and she is pretty but her stage presence is just not there. I am thinking she’ll be the first one booted from top 12. Second, I am glad Brandon and Phil made it in. I was really worried about both of them. I’ve liked Brandon since his audition and well Phil is just funny and has a great personality. When he really opens his voice up WOW. I can’t wait to hear more from him. So happy Stephanie is there! Another one I was worried about mainly because she didn’t get that early exposure on the show and I wasn’t so sure how tight her fanbase was. Love her. And thank you America for getting Antonella off my TV!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you! And finally……SANJAYA OVER SUNDANCE????? Holy shit

Soap scents ordered!
2007-03-09 01:37:37
I placed a delicious fragrance oil order with Daystar Candle and Soap Supplies this morning.  Can’t wait for it to get here so I can start cranking out some handmade soap again. Pink Grapefruit & Sugar Cane Melonberry Tea Buttermilk & Honey Kiwi Lime Sherbet Sun-Kissed Mangos I’ve never used this supplier before but they have an awesome selection of scents.  I could really get carried away over there.

Pay Per Post
2007-03-11 12:51:08
I became interested in joining Pay Per Post after reading a couple of my friends success stories. I really wanted to be a part of it but I had to wait until this blog was at least 90 days old to qualify. Also, I had to clear up an issue was having with my Paypal account. Well today marked the 90 point and last week the Paypal thing got worked out so I signed up this morning. Now I’m just waiting on my blog to get approved. My page rank is kinda low, though. It’s only a 2. *crossing fingers*

Getting ready to soap.
2007-03-13 04:39:31
The fragrance oils I ordered came today! Man, they smell divine.  She even gave me a generous sample of a pomegranate scent which also smells good enough to eat. I went to the store and stocked up on my oils and now I’m all ready to get soaping. It’s a good thing too because we are down to just slivers and I refuse to buy any at the store.  You can’t beat handmade soap.

UDOO by Wirefly….cellphone fun!
2007-03-13 04:16:29
I’ve been playing with this cool little cell phone tool, UDOO, and I have to tell you it’s pretty cool. UDOO lets you have custom Avatars and ringtones that you can either download to your cell phone, email to your friends, or post on your Myspace profie. You can make your avatar say all kinds of silly things by choosing one of the funny pre-recorded messages or you can record your own message by phone. I thought about doing that but I really hate my accent. Some of the pre-recorded messages are hilarious. I also love how there are so many different faces and styles you can choose from. After you select your avatar you can then choose through many hairstyles, clothing, and accessories. Don’t like the background color? Well, feel free to change that too. You can literally spend way too much time playing with these avatars. With so many choices the possibilities are endless! With sites like these I always tend to create a person that resembles me but you can be

Finally a relaxing day
2007-03-12 19:15:53
Usually Monday’s are so hectic. Hubs is off on Monday and Tuesday and he likes to do “stuff” meaning he has the attention span of a 3 year old and has to be entertained at all times. Well, after a week of playing chauffeur and running errands, and all the other fun stuff moms do I am ready to just chill and not leave the house. I do not care to do “stuff”. The “stuff” I do want to do does not include anybody but ME. Well today is all rainy and gloomy outside we are just hanging out watching movies…he’s on his computer and I’m on mine. Haven’t left the house since to took the kids to school this morning. Hopefully, tomorrow can be a repeat of today because Wednesday is packed.

SponsoredReviews.com

Being a busy stay at home mom to 4 kids I’ve been searching for ways to make extra money to supplement my husbands income. I just joined this brand new site called, Sponsored Reviews and I am really excited to be a part of it. After creating your account, you just add your blog. After only a few hours mine was approved and I was able to log in and see what opporutunities were available for me. Here’s the cool thing…when you apply for an opp you can actually put in a bid for the amount you want to be paid. It could be anywhere from $5-$500. The amount that advertisers will pay you is based on the amount of traffic you get on your site. Once you’ve submitted your bid, the advertiser will either accept, deny or make a counter offer. Again, they were very prompt! Also, advertisers can search through blog profiles and purchase reviews right there on the spot. SponsoredReviews.com only takes a flat-rate commission of 35% which is the lowest of the competit

Parenting is so much fun!
2007-03-14 18:35:13
Last night I was all hunkered down for 2 hours with Ryan Seacrest and 12 wannabe singers when Maddie comes out of her room screaming hysterically, “Mama!!!!! Looook at Abby’s EYEEEEE!!!!” Then followed by even more hysterical screaming from Abby and then Caroline because she was scared for Abby. It seems as if 3 little monkeys were jumping on a bed and one jumped up and bumped her head. Yeah, I spent the night in the ER last night. 7 hours to be exact. It turns out that heart attacks and car accidents take precedence over gaping wounds. And I also found out that people who barely have anything wrong with them go to the emergency room. And then there was the woman who brought all 5 of her kids with her to the emergency room. One of them had hit his head and she was getting it checked out. I felt so bad for the kids because they were so young and sooooo tired. I guess she couldn’t find anyone to help her out with them. I was lucky that Patrick was off

Address labels
2007-03-16 14:57:32
I can’t count how many times I’ve written out a stack of bills, addressed them, stamped them and just as I was about to take them out to mail I realized I didn’t put the return address on them. Very frustrating! Then I find myself hoping and praying I can dig up some address labels only to find that I’m all out. I’ll be honest here. I’m lazy. I hate having to write out that return address. This site sells some really cute address labels and if you are like me then you should check them out. They have a HUGE selection to choose from and a great price too.

Update on my sick and injured children
2007-03-16 03:56:52
Abby is doing great with her stitches. She’s not too happy about how she’s looking right now, though. She gets them out on Tuesday so that’s good. Jacob on the other hand is still feeling pretty yucky. These seasonal allergies are just kicking his butt this year. His eyes are what bothers him the most. His eyeballs get very red and swollen. Yes, the actual eyeball swells. It’s the most bizarre looking thing I’ve ever seen too. He has some drops called Optivar and they really work magic on them. So let’s see… he’s on the eye drops, Zyrtec, Albuterol inhaler, Flonase, Zithromax, and Orapred. That sure is a lot of meds for a 10 year old but it helps. The great things is when April comes all the symptoms will dissappear overnight. He’s in his bed reading right now. Today he finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and started right in on The Half-Blood Prince. He’s hooked on Harry just like mama. The fact

Amazon Coupon Codes!
2007-03-15 22:49:50
I don’t think there’s a single person out there who shops online that doesn’t like coupon codes. I know I do! Being a mom on a budget I have to save money anyway I can. Since I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately I’ve been spending a lot of time at Amazon reading book reviews and looking for great deals. I have so many books that I want to read and since my library doesn’t carry some of them I will more than likely just order them from Amazon. It’s always nice to know that Amazon has great coupon codes and free shipping shipping for orders over $25. Of course, we all know Amazon sells a lot more than books, right? ;) This is a sponsored post.

American Idol Top 12- Diana Ross Night
2007-03-15 19:08:53
Well, first of all I didn’t get to watch the show (see post below) or the elimination show but I did go to Rickey’s yesterday afternoon and listened to some mp3s he has posted. Gotta love that Rickey (even though he supports Sanjaya…ick)! I was blown away by Phil and imagine my shock this morning when I found out he was in the bottom 3 last night. I mean what in the bloody hell is wrong with people??? Phil has the best voice out of all the other guys up there. His voice is gorgeous! Yes, I know his head and ears are distracting but still…he’s GOOD. Phil’s fans better wake the hell up and get to hardcore voting like those crazy Sanjaya fans. I’ve already vowed to not vote this year after my obsessive year last season voting for Ace so don’t say a word to me about not voting. It just burns me up that goofy Sanjaya with his crazy hair is STILL THERE. Please please please, stop voting for him whoever you are. I beg of you. Put

Mmmm…Spain
2007-03-15 18:46:56
If you had to choose a country to visit where would you go? Personally, I have never been over seas or to any other country. My husband and I like to daydream about winning the lottery and traveling the globe. We love to watch travel shows together and just fantisize about it. I know, we’re silly. But I think one of the beautiful countries in Europe I’d love to visit would be Spain . Beautiful beaches, gorgeous villas, and not to mention the rich history and culture. I love history and would definitely love to see places I’ve only read about. Maybe someday I’ll be able to get there. *sigh* Post sponsored by Spanish Venture.

I got up too early!
2007-03-17 13:42:04
I woke up at 5am (internal alarm clock) and I am really regretting it now. I want to crawl back in bed but the gang is starting to stir and well, they will all start in with those demands any minute now. Besides, I have to take Jacob to the school in an hour for the testing workshop so he can get his “special treat” from the teachers that I paid $3 dollars for. I’m still pissed about that, by the way. Then I have to take Hubs to work at 11am. After we drop him off the girls and I will be heading to the library to hang out until it’s time to go pick up Jacob and 1pm. No big plans for the rest of the day. I’m sure Maddie will start the weekly begging of having a friend over because she’s bored. Personally, I would like to lock myself in my room and read and watch some shows I have stored up on my DVR. I haven’t even had a chance to watch the latest episode of Heroes! If you’ve never seen the show but would like to catch up, you ca

Friday Gripefest
2007-03-16 18:34:59
My kids all go to the same elementary school. The twins are in kindergarten, Maddie 3rd grade and Jacob 4th grade. I remember thinking how much easier it was going to be to have them all in the same school. While it is easier in someways, it has its pitfalls too. For one thing…I’m so sick and tired of this school wanting money every time I turn around. One week they need a $3 donation for a gift for the teacher’s birthday and the next it’s $5 fee for field day shirts and the then they want me to send in money for some AR software that they’ve installed in the damn library, etc, etc…. Well, I’m sorry, but we are not rich. You take all that and multiply it by 4 and it’s a lot of money. And then there’s the fact that I have a horrible memory and can’t remember to send the damn money in! And they always want cash and exact change. Well, I’m sorry but I do not keep a stack of one dollar bills around the house. A

Cute Decorative Flags
2007-03-19 23:20:34
We worked in our yard today and it looks so pretty now. My husband is always off on Monday and Tuesday and for the last few weeks it’s either been raining or too cold. Well today was nice out so he had no choice at all. Now that it’s all done it makes me want to get one of those cute, decorative flags found over at Discount Mart. Lots and lots to choose from. Not only do they have flags but they also have fountains, outdoor decor, and even kitchen and bath items.

2007-03-19 14:44:32
I am so happy it’s Monday! Bet you’ve never heard that one, huh? And I believe I was just as happy a couple of days ago when Friday got here. Heck, I don’t know what I want. LOL This weekend was non-stop. Yesterday was a killer. I was up at the crack of dawn, got the kids ready and we all went to Sunday School and church. Hubs has to work on Sunday so he doesn’t go with us. After church we rushed home and I got everyone fed. Then it was back in the van to take Maddie to a birthday party from 2-4. Came back home and we worked on the twins’ family projects that were due today and finished just in time to load everyone back in the van to go pick Maddie up from the party at 4. Instead of coming back home we rode out to my MIL’s for a little visit. She lives on the street behind our church which is a good thing since my kids do Awanas and I am an Awanas leader and we have to be there by 5:15. Awana is over at 7 so at 7:30 we get home, I fe
