Tait Ball Buster 2004 Presale 2008-04-12 04:14:30 About this wine: As it has been in previous vintages, the value-priced 2004 The Ball Buster
Proprietary Red is a classic Barossa Valley effort in terms of bigness, boldness, and a dramatic display of fruit and intensity. If you want something delicate, restrained, and understated, steer clear of this locomotive that crashes over the palate [...]
WINE; IT’S KOSHER 2008-04-11 04:37:02 Beginning about a decade ago, a younger generation of Jews decided that there was no reason why they had to be masochistic to be observant when it came to the High Holy Days. Many of them ba’alei teschuva (returnees to the faith), they were also sophisticated in matters of food and drink. They refused to [...]

Ramon Bilbao Edicion Limitada 2003 2008-04-15 03:40:37 Another quick note, time seems to be getting away from me at the moment but I have a load of bottles to write up plus a couple of tastings this week.
So this is the best 604 barrells of Tempranillo from a single vineyard, Finca Valpierre. Bunch selection is used to find the best clusters and then [...] Read more:Bilbao

Adulam Sauvignon Blanc 2002 2008-04-18 00:31:09 Rating: 4
Actually, I tend to avoid white wines; they usually don’t appeal to me, but for some reason this Barkan Classic Adulam Sauvignon
Blanc was just right.
Not too woody, not too fruity or too light, just a very nice combination of flavors. I was favorably impressed.
If you like Sauvignon Blanc I suggest you give [...]
Arche d’Alliance Merlot 2000 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-04-21 00:44:16 Rating: 3
An ordinary Merlot, this wine was quite tolerable after a few minutes of air. My guests and I enjoyed it. The color is not the typical Bordeaux claret; it’s a deeper red. (This wine, or a similar one, also comes in a 180 ml bottle with a screw cap, and in that version [...] Read more:Alliance

Berlinka 1996 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-04-22 23:04:37 Rating: 4
Did you ever hear someone say, “This wine has character”? Well, this is the kind of wine that has lots of character.
When I first pored this wine, I actually had to double-check that my glass was clean, because the surface of the wine had an oily sheen to it. I realized later that [...] Read more:Kosher
Beaujolais Villages 2002 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-04-25 01:34:25 Rating: 3
Abarbanel does an excellent job on their Beaujolais
, so much so that their Beaujolais Noveau is occassionaly rated among the best in the US. This Beaujolais is estate-bottled, usually a mark of higher quality in these wines, a guarantee that the grapes have some traceability and accounting.
Abarbanel’s Beaujolais is a fun wine to [...] Read more:Villages

Beaujolais Villages Nouveau - Kosher Wine Review 2008-04-28 01:06:04 Beaujolais Nouveau
is supposed to be a fun, rather than serious wine, and meant to be enjoyed in just the month or so after release (traditionally, the third Thursday in November). In 2001, Abarbanel’s Beaujolais Nouveau was simply excellent. Not only did I and my guests enjoy this wine, but the Wall Street Journal rated this [...] Read more:Beaujolais

Black Muscat 1998 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-01 01:31:05 Rating: 4
This is one of those wines you have in your reserve when you need to serve or give a gift of a sweet wine; it’s quite sweet enough for those who prefer sweet wines, but its a decently-made wine for all that. It’s actually more of a desert wine than a kiddush wine [...] Read more:Black

Blanc de Blanc Brut - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-03 01:25:03 Rating: 3
This is a sparkling wine, and perhaps one of the better inexpensive ones. The alcohol content is a little light, so the wine doesn’t have much bite; but the flavor of the wine grapes comes through, and the wine lacks the bitterness I detect with some sparkling wines in this price range. It’s [...] Read more:Kosher

Blanc des Blancs - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-06 01:02:17 Rating: 3
This wine does very well for the price. The wine isn’t very aggressive with its sparkle or flavor, as you’d find on wines that cost five times the price; but on the other hand the flavor is acceptable and the finish is smooth (rather than bitter, as I’ve found with other inexpensive sparkling [...] Read more:Kosher
Blaufrankisch Barrique 2000 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-07 23:00:24 Rating: 4
Hafner is starting to import kosher wines to the US, and I caught up with them at Vinexpo Americas. I have seen wines from central Europe before, but these are the first kosher wines I’ve seen from Austria.
Blaufrankisch is a grape I haven’t tasted before; if I have to compare it to something, [...] Read more:Kosher

Bordeaux 2002 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-12 23:41:23 Rating: 2
I was very disappointed in this wine; it was thin and unappealing, with some harshness as well. I tested it by letting it sit overnight, corked, and the next day it was slightly more palatable; this indicates that the wine might be acceptable if it matures in the bottle for a few more [...] Read more:Bordeaux

Cabernet Merlot 2002 - Kosher Wine Review 2008-05-15 00:01:52 Rating: 3
This is an inexpensive wine. I find it drinkable and a bargin at this price; other friends find it completely impossible to drink. I’ve tried two bottles, and while it isn’t impressive it isn’t horrid.
Through a typographical error, the bottles don’t say Kosher
for Passover and don’t say Mevushal — a pretty serious [...] Read more:Cabernet
