Credit Cards to Illegal Immigrants? What's Next?
2007-02-24 05:31:31
There’s a lively debate going on over at BankerVision. James Gardner wrote a post regarding the efforts of Bank of America giving credit cards to illegal immigrants, which I wrote about previously here. James points out that BoA is offering a service to a niche market, and actually doing it with good business sense. By pricing the product (credit cards) in such a way to cover risks, they are actually facilitating economic activity to a part of the economy that is basically hidden. I respect his opinion, but I find it detached from what the real heart of the matter is, and that’s illegal immigrants shouldn’t be here in the first place. Think of it, if we didn’t have the problem of people crossing the border illegally, we wouldn’t be having issues like businesses making the type of bad choices BoA is making. Not that they would be devoid of making bad choices, just making them on things that matter at least. I have to disagree with another of his comments. H

Bank Robbers of America
2007-02-23 06:11:00
Bank of America has joined the race to help devalue the American way. Their so-called “pilot program” that offers illegal immigrants credit cards is their way of saying, “We don’t care about Americans.” I’m not against people of other nations — absolutely not. I am for the protection of our American culture, for upholding its laws and borders, and keeping the Great American Melting Pot from becoming a collection of bowls. You come to America and you fit in. You don’t come in and expect special exceptions or privileges. You don’t go to the front of a line of people who are following the rules to enter our nation legally and planning to contribute to our society. Working under the guise of compassion for people who have already broken the law to come here and say that they’re helping these people build their own financial freedom is something I find sickening. Why not help the people who are here legally? Am I the only one who s

What the Media Could Do If They Tried
2007-02-21 05:26:10
Oh for the love of Pete! Can the media just stop talking about Anna Nicole Smith’s death for five minutes?! I’m sorry for her passing and sympathize for the loved ones she’s left behind, but there is no justification for all the hoopla about her death. She was an attention-getting stripper who led a life of drugs and partying, but with all the hype she has received over the last couple of weeks you’d think she was responsible for improving our world. In my opinion, it’s exactly this type of attention that’s causing our society’s downfall. Being famous without having anything to be famous for has become the norm, and the spotlight usually falls on the person who has done something rather infamous. If the media would focus their attention on things that matter rather than try to twist things to serve their own view of the world, their own agenda, they might actually help us live up to a higher standard. But alas, it all comes down to media share,

Hormel Worried Over Relationship With Digital Spam
2007-03-03 08:20:57
ABC World News Tonight reported this evening that Hormel, the maker of the canned-meat product, Spam, is worried that consumers will be confused between their product and the kind of spam that you get delivered to your inbox. Gimme a break! I did a quick Google of the case and discovered this has been going on for a few years. In an article dated July of 2003, Hormel officials argued that: …the company has carefully protected and invested in the brand name and the public could confuse the meat product with the technology company. The technology company being referenced is SpamArrest, makers of software designed to combat spam — the email variety. Are you kidding me? When was the last time you tried to eat unsolicited email? I’m all for defending branding, property and so on, but this sounds to me like Hormel’s lawyers are a little too eager to come up with billable hours. Hormel, spam, trademark Share This

Zeroes: A Heroes Parody
2007-03-06 04:39:51
Sometimes, among the filth and stupidity you find on YouTube, you come across a rather funny video clip. Here’s one that’s a parody of the hit TV series, Heroes. Where they have people with extraordinary abilities, this clip has people with pointless abilities. Pretty funny! heroes, tv, entertainment, television, parody, zeroes Share This

Everybody Needs A Hero
2007-03-05 21:08:00
I’m a huge fan of the TV series Heroes. If you haven’t caught on to it, then I highly recommend you do this evening on NBC 8 p.m. CST. It’s about mankind entering a new stage in their evolution, where people are discovering unique abilities that make them extraordinary. Some use their powers for good, others for evil. Aside from the great storytelling this show has, I like that they don’t cram the special effects down your throat. The show, IMHO, succeeds in being believable. If they started out with people dressing up in hot-colored spandex like comic book heroes, I believe the show would have fallen on its face after two weeks. No, this one takes its time, showing you just the right balance of super powers and story, revealing a little bit here and there and always keeping you longing for more. This isn’t like Lost, where they drag… out… their…. storrryyy… line. Sites abound on the Internet paying homage to the show, like Hero

Credit Cards to Illegals May End Thanks to Legislation
2007-03-08 04:53:20
Legislation being introduced by Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, may prevent financial institutions from offering credit cards to illegal immigrants. It’s being called the Photo Identification Security Act. Looks like common sense is still alive in government. The bill would require consumers to provide forms of identification that are secure when applying for such things as credit cards. I reported earlier that Bank of America was claiming they weren’t doing anything illegal citing they were operating within the confines of the U.S. Patriot Act. Please — I’m all for making a buck, but have they no shame in the way they go after it? It has less to do with providing a service to a virtually untapped segment of the economy, and more to do with eyeing the dollars a bank can make. Hopefully, if passed, this will prevent Bank of America and its ilk from abusing loopholes for the sake of increasing their revenue. bank of america, credit cards, illegal immigration, legis

7 Tips for Successful Job Hunting
2007-03-12 00:09:28
A few years ago I went through a rather tough time when I lost my job. I worked for a large telecommunications company and they were letting go of their employees by the thousands - literally. I was in denial in my last days, hoping that I’d dodge the bullet, but when I got *the call* from my boss to have a meeting with him the following Monday morning (he never did that), I knew my time had run out. It was a long year and a half before I found full-time employment again. Stress was my constant companion. At times, there seemed to be no hope in sight. But I made it. If you’re suffering from job loss, here are a few bits of advice that should help you: Tip #1: Network like crazy “Get out and meet people,” is what I heard people say. But if you’re an introvert like I was back then, then it’s one challenge among many you have to face. It’s still good advice and will definitely increase your chances to getting that next best job. I’m a strong

How You Can Save Money On Your Credit Cards
2007-03-15 07:08:55
Credit card companies have a little secret they don’t like to actively make public. It’s called the “universal default clause”. These three words carry a lot of force behind them because it means if you happen to pay late on, say, your car loan or even your electricity bill, your credit card company could increase your interest rate by several orders of magnitude. “Wait, they can penalize me for being late on a payment that’s totally unrelated to them?” Absolutely, and it drives me crazy that they can do this. Their logic goes like this: if you’re a credit risk to others, then you could be a credit risk to them. So before you become that risk, they want to protect their interest by charging you an arm and a leg (in addition to the other two they’re already charging you for). So let me get this straight: I’m a little short on cash so I decide to purchase something on credit. I’ve agreed to pay a minimum payment plus inter

Bloggst: A New Place for Bloggers
2007-03-16 06:15:46
I’m always on the lookout for places that bloggers can turn to to share knowledge or to get noticed. Every once in a while, they come looking for me. Bloggst is one such place who came knocking on my virtual door and invited me over. Lars-Christian is the “man behind the curtain” over at Bloggst. His community is a resource center created for bloggers. You can post questions for help, help others, or just learn by reading the conversations that take place. Like many great starts, Bloggst came into existence because there wasn’t much being offered in the way of interactive communities to help bloggers. So Lars-Christian decided to make one himself. Looks like he’s off to a great start. It’s free to join, btw! So take a moment out of your busy schedule and take a look. bloggst, blogs, online community, forum Share This
