Bad news regards Bacary Sagna
2008-03-27 10:21:00
A recurring theme of this season seems to be our form players being struck down with significant injuries, from RVP early on, to Eduardo and Rosicky later on, and now Bacary Sagna who is likely to be our for around three weeks with a rather unfortunate ankle injury. With three huge games against Liverpool coming up and a rather big fixture at Old Trafford all within the next three weeks, Bacary

Thoughts after Chelsea
2008-03-26 04:23:00
Sunday was a depressing day all round and there is no escaping it. However, we are not out of it yet and if Chelsea can play at that same tempo against ManUre, then I reckon they will drop some points. However, our biggest problem is that our form is now terrible - 4 points from 5 games is desperately bad. Unless we get 3 points at Bolton then we are out of it for sure. Watching the Chelsea game

Pipped by the classless chavs
2008-03-23 13:37:00
An exciting game, no doubt, Chelsea coming out of the encounter 2-1 winners, leaving us with a very significant hill to climb if we are to win the title this year. The game earlier had been swung by a slightly controversial piece of refereeing, as a lacklustre Liverpool were seen of by Manchester United, but there was no doubt about the key moment that swung today's game Chelsea's way. The

An uphill battle
2008-03-22 11:46:00
Having returned from a fantastic week of holiday, I fed my Gooner paranoia my watching the highlights of the Arsenal Boro game from last weekend. I came away with the distinct impression that lots of little marginal decisions may well cost us dear, and these are decisions that very rarely go against the likes of Manchester United. Firstly Adebayor had a good goal ruled out incorrectly in the

Happy St Totteringham's day!
2008-03-13 11:32:00
That lovely day has come, sweet joy, St Totteringham's day is here, and Tottenham cannot finish above Arsenal for another season. Tottenham are 31 points behind us with ten games to go, I'm afraid that's it for the sorry spuds, even though it does pain me to say it. This excellent St Totteringham's database is worth taking a look at, brought to us by Mike Pitt, many thanks Mike. Interestingly

A rather slow week
2008-03-12 13:39:00
It's not that I have no life outside of following the mighty Arsenal, but weeks with no action like this do pass that little bit more slowly than the action packed ones. Liverpool made it through to the quarter finals last night, completing the English quartet, and raising the odds of Arsenal drawing an English club to almost one in two. Alexandre Song, a sometimes maligned and frequently

Sinking to Wigan's depth
2008-03-09 13:38:00
It was never going to be pretty on a ploughed field in Wigan , but we did enough to have won today, I hope that our missed chances do not cost us dear come May. Wigan huffed and puffed but didn't create anything clear cut, Almunia only had one real save to make from a decent twenty yarder in the second half. Adebayor had a couple of great opportunities, a one-on-one at the beginning of the game

Another youngster snared and Wigan preview
2008-03-09 05:53:00
Arsenal have snapped up another young talent from Barcelona's feeder club, Ignasi Miguel, a centre back of some pedigree. This story was first broken by the Telegraph. Obviously there is a long way to go for the lad, and very few of these highly rated youngsters make as first team regulars, however it's still promising for the club, as Arsenal is seen as a club that will put young players into

Pipe down you unemployed imbecile
2008-03-08 03:08:00
The small man who masquerades as a rather vain egotistical Portugese by the name of Jose Mourinho has been shooting off his dysmorphic mouth yet again. He really is so foolish and petulant that he continues to insult those he used to compete with in an immensely bitter and disrespectful manner. Some things never change, some people have absolutely no class at all, and that appears to never

Simply awesome
2008-03-05 01:34:00
That was the best I have ever seen Arsenal play away from home in Europe. Ac Milan were made to look rather ordinary, not the mighty European champions that they are. It was a great team performance as well, true, some individuals were better than others, however everyone worked for each other and everyone showed immense discipline over the ninety minutes. Milan started strongly with lots of

Not a complete disaster
2008-03-02 13:35:00
Bendtner's last minute goal may be crucial come the end of the season, and salvaging a last minute draw feels so much better than losing at home. Our morale would really have suffered if we'd followed on from last weekend's controversial events, when we deserved all three points, with nulle point at the Emirates. I do like to be positive. As Arsene says it was a bit of a hungover performance, it

Time to Separate the Men from the Boys
2008-02-29 03:51:00
It has been a tragic week in Arsenal land. A great deal has been said about the Eduardo injury already and I fully endorse 1979Gooner's stance on this issue. Unfortunately, apart from Gary Lewin, no-one has come out well during the week and the media and FA should be ashamed of themselves. I expect there to be a lot of emotion at the Emirates tomorrow for Eduardo and we shall all wish him to a

FA covering themselves in manure
2008-02-26 12:22:00
The FA's inconsistent and useless disciplinary system continues to work its wonders, as Martin Taylor is banned for three games for a dangerous straight legged lunge while Jeremie Alaidiere is banned for four games for a little slap. As Arseblogger says, the FA are weak cowards who have been refusing to address the problem of violent tackles for a long long time. The sheer inconsistency of

Eduardo latest
2008-02-25 16:02:00
I was wrong, it appears that Eduardo has sustained a fractured fibula and a dislocation of his ankle joint: "Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg." The club appear rather optimistic about Eduardo's prognosis: "It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months time and making a full recovery after nine months." I

The 'beautiful' English game
2008-02-24 10:41:00
Some people have no shame. Arsene is not optimistic regarding Eduardo's injury with good reason, it's a particularly nasty injury which allegedly involves the ankle joint as well as the break higher up. These kind of injuries can end careers even with the best surgical treatment. Arseblog queries as to whether it is just the fibula that is broken, unfortunately this is unlikely to be the case,

The scum settles on the surface
2008-02-24 03:07:00
The reaction to the Eduardo injury in the English media has quite frankly beggared belief. I don't know how anyone can genuinely have any faith in its objectivity, when Martin Taylor's tackle is defended by so many 'experts' and pundits; compare and contrast this to the way that Eboue's tackle from last week was roundly called reckless and malicious, and a 'definite red card'. Eboue's tackle

Refereeing of the lowest order
2008-02-23 09:07:00
I am still fuming following the disgrace that was Martin Taylor's 'tackle', Sky's pathetic double standards and Mike Dean's retarded officiating; the combination of which has deprived us of a very gifted player for months and maybe his whole career, and of three deserved points. The games started with a truly appalling tackle from Martin Taylor that may well end Eduardo's career. He lunged in,

All to Play For in Milan
2008-02-21 04:08:00
The 0-0 result last night did not reflect Arsenal's good performance last night against AC Milan , one of the true greats of European football. Although not at their best this season, form counts for little at this stage of the Champions League and AC Milan boast some players of true class - Kaka, Maldini, Nesta etc alongside some exciting youngsters, such as Pato (which I believe translates to

A decisive moment
2008-02-20 09:05:00
Tonight's game has the potential to be a pivotal moment in our season, after the shambles of Saturday, we have a great opportunity to get straight back into the saddle. As ANR comments it is one hell of a big night for a certain humble German. I hope I will be proven wrong by Jens, but I don't think he's been on top of his game for over a year or so, and Almunia has been outstanding so far this

Eboue, a convenient scapegoat
2008-02-18 15:46:00
Emmanuel Eboue's tackle was stupid, it was a bad foul and that I do not deny, however the reaction that is has provoked has been more than a little unfair and over the top. Eboue had his studs dangerously up, however the worst that would result from such a challenge would be a bit of a graze; Eboue's leg was bent and anyone who has played football can understand that this kind of tackle may look

A bit of perspective
2008-02-18 05:27:00
It was dissappointing to lose against Manchester United and it was especially gutting to lose in such a manner, however it was one game and Arsene clearly has his eye on the Milan game. I will make no excuses, Manchester United thoroughly deserved their handsome win, and played us off the park. There were certainly some clear reasons for why this happened. The missing fullbacks and centre

Reality Bites
2008-02-18 05:11:00
I'm in two minds about saturday's 4-0 thrashing by Man Utd in the FA Cup. Part of me wants to say it doesn't matter, just like the thrashing Spurs gave us in the Carling Cup semi-final (see posting below). However, I think the better half of me is screaming in frustration. Man Utd were clearly 125% motivated for this game, presumably having been bollocked all week by Demento after their own

Arsenal News Turkey
2008-02-12 07:27:00
I had to pinch myself when I read this amazingly cocky piece on Arsenal News Review, here we have a rather over confident journalist claiming that fergie should be reading his ill informed blog to learn a bit more about the game: "Well, Sir Alex and Avram are too close to their teams and can't see the wood for the trees. They should read ANR." I wouldn't read ANR if I were you, it's full of

Anything for a quick buck
2008-02-10 10:36:00
What a terrible shame that Manchester City won on the 50th anniversary of the Munich air crash. It could never be said that Manchester United have exploited the tragic deaths of the Munich air crash by selling overpriced merchandise to commemorate and profit from the disaster. One can certainly tell a lot about people in the way that they react after disasters. It seems that pathetic little

Have that Bolton
2008-03-29 10:45:00
The first half at the Reebok summed up our last few weeks, somehow we contrived to be 2-0 down in a game that we shaded, to put it mildly. Bolton rarely threatened, but managed to open the scoring against the run of play with a well taken headed goal and then fluked a second with a rather fortunate deflected effort. At the other end we had missed chance after chance, Van Persie shooting straight

David Rocastle - the legend
2008-03-28 06:04:00
David Rocastle was no ordinary footballer, he joined Arsenal in 1983 and went on to be a key part of George Graham's side that won two league titles in 1989 and 1991, he was also capped 14 times for England. Having left Arsenal for Leeds in 1992 his career never took off as many hoped, constantly plagued by injuries he struggled to maintain any kind of form and after several transfers he

Let's bring the ruckus
2008-03-31 08:10:00
Liverpool have not set the world on fire this season, but they are a pragmatic side and will be hard to break down on Wednesday night. It will be interesting to see how they line up, will Benitez play a more attacking 4-4-2 or will he try to bore us with a more defensive 4--5-1? I don't think this should affect how Arsene approaches the game, I feel we should line up with a standard 4-4-2 as

Intuitive is one word for it, I can think of others
2008-03-30 01:34:00
"A lot of what I've written about Arsenal here is intuitive, impressionistic, off-the-top-of-my head stuff and that is risky. It's written in the moment for the moment. You can come a cropper doing that, as I've done many times. Mistakes creep in at the best newspapers, despite armies of editors and sub-editors, so it's hardly a surprise that Myles Palmer goes off the rails almost every week.
