Troubling News About Iran
2008-03-25 22:06:00
This article, written by NR blogger Steve Shippert, gives a troubling look into the changing tactics of Iran and how they are taking more direct control of their foreign terrorist operations throughout the Middle East. While the news media and the Democrat candidates all bashed McCain for saying Iran was behind the Shia militias in Iraq, all the evidence, including the words of Gen David

Liberal Profs Part 5: Suggestions for Reform
2008-03-25 09:17:00
Delegate Landes’ academic freedom bill that would impose transparency on higher education is a step in the right direction. However, Landes’ bill does not solve all of the problems mentioned in Part 2 or Part 4. A new program by the Center for Union Facts suggests firing America’s worst teachers by buying out their contracts. While humorous, this program hints at the biggest hurdle facing

McDonnell Bolling = Unbeatable in '09
2008-03-24 22:19:00
Lt. Gov. Bolling announced today that he will not seek the governor's office in '09. This paves the way for AG McDonnell (more on this below). Bolling will seek re-election and probably be the presumptive Republican gubernatorial nominee in '13 when the Republican brand is more in favor. Perhaps McDonnell should in some ways envy him! Bolling is a conservative's conservative. 2008's General

Cuccinelli Speaks to the RLCVA
2008-03-24 14:05:00
As vice-chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Virginia, I had the pleasure of listening to conservative State Senator, Ken Cuccinelli, deliver a fantastic speech on transportation and the general assembly. Mr. Cuccinelli also discussed a possible attorney general run. A must-watch for those concerned by Richmond's actions and fans of the state senator. Also, Vern McKinley, the 10th District

McCain Turns Blue States Purple
2008-03-24 11:30:00
In yet another sign of why John McCain is the best choice the GOP could have made, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota have all been steadily turning purple since McCain sealed the Republican nomination. All of these states went for Kerry in 2004 and have been considered solidly Democrat until this past month. In fact, as the Rev. Wright controversy heated up, both Democrats' poll numbers fell

Each poll will last one week (Sunday-Sunday). Week 1=private citizens. Week 2=politicians. Week 3=Championship (top person from each advances).

WaPo Beer Bracket is a Fraud
2008-03-22 19:51:00
To my chagrin the Washington Post Beer Bracket is run by a panel of judges. Your vote doesn't matter! Not only that, but many of the judges aren't beer experts. The biggest disgrace so far was when Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat rightfully demolished Ommegang Hennepin with 89% to 11% in reader votes and Ommegang advanced anyway!! I have only tasted 2/8 of the beers left and no longer feel

JMU's SGA Shenanigans
2008-03-21 14:56:00
I am getting word that JMU's Student Government Association is bringing charges against one of its most popular members. Will provide updates as more becomes public! UPDATE: Adam Hall (JMU CR) has been brought up on charges of missing too many meetings. The charges appear to be bogus and potentially politically motivated. Will keep this post updated.

Liberal Profs Part 4: Once Upon a Time
2008-03-21 01:12:00
My last post on Delegate Landes’ academic freedom bill referenced testimony I gave to the House Education Subcommittee on Higher Education in 2007 on behalf of Landes' bill. Below is my true personal story of liberal bias in the classroom. Before the subcommittee opened up to public testimony the delegates debated the relevance of Landes' HB 1643. One Democrat asked if anyone knew of a single

Women's History Month
2008-03-20 12:55:00
March is Women ’s history month and the University of Mary Washington has a series of lectures and exhibits planned to supposedly celebrate this. While there are several lectures dealing with some historical issues of interest relating to women, the events seem to mainly be an excuse to push the feminist agenda onto our campus. The keynote speaker in the lineup is a blogger for National Abortion

Liberal Profs Part 3: Del. Landes' Academic Freedom Bill
2008-03-20 12:19:00
The media coverage about confronting liberal bias in the classroom has mainly centered on David Horowitz's Academic Bill of Rights. Fortunately or unfortunately, the ABOR has successfully been branded as a heavy handed attempt at reform that would harm free speech. Conservatives need not reflexively support it just because the press gives it the lion's share of coverage. Right here in Virginia

Liberal Profs Part 2: Effects on Higher Education
2008-03-18 21:17:00
In my last post I defined the problem of liberal activist professors. In this post I show how ideological activism affects higher education. All research cited below comes from papers submitted for the symposium Reforming the Politically Correct University put on by the American Enterprise Institute in November of 2007. At a later post I will provide personal accounts of bias. 1) Liberal s

Liberal Profs Part 1: UVA Prof Rorty and Nazi Contrast
2008-03-18 12:07:00
Like I said in my post yesterday, this Wednesday a lecturer at JMU will be discussing how the Academic Bill of Rights is totalitarian. I will not be addressing this issue. Instead over five posts in the next two days I will be discussing why there is a need for legislative reforms to stop liberal professorial bias. Longtime UVA Philosophy Professor Richard Rorty - paraphrased from Universality

JMU Student Tossed From Class Over T-Shirt
2008-03-17 11:09:00
As a violin student at JMU, I teach two days a week at the Madison String Academy, a government-funded strings program for children in elementary school. We wear your average college-student clothes for this teaching position - jeans and t-shirts - with the permission of our faculty supervisor. Monday, I wore my new Rock for Life T-shirt, which you can see at www.nationalprolifetshirtday.com.

Academic Bill of Rights is Totalitarian?
2008-03-17 10:48:00
Dr. Bill Scheuerman, the former President of the United University Professions, will present a symposium talk entitled: “Stealth Totalitarianism: Questioning the Academic Bill of Rights ” this Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at JMU's ISAT 159 from 5:00-6:15pm. I have class and cannot attend, but would encourage others to go and give this liberal some grief. Dr. Scheuerman sees the Academic Bill of

GMU earned a lowly 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament today. They face Notre Dame this upcoming Thursday. On to more important business, the WaPo beer bracket update! Disgusting beer like Miller Chill was eliminated and we are down to 16 beers like Leinenkugel’s and Brooklyn Lager. I will update again when we get to the final four and show off my beer lingo! Obamagate

Barack Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ, slams America and "white people" in the videos below. This is Obama's pastor of nearly 20 years who presided over his wedding, was the inspiration for one of his books, and who had an official role on the campaign! This guy is not an "old Uncle", he is a racist who hates America. Obama's tolerance of this man for so many

Support Take Back the Night NOT Vagina Monologues
2008-03-15 10:43:00
My post about the Vagina Monologues sparked debate with a college student all the way in Las Vegas who made the claim that CRs can't complain about the Monologues unless we are doing something to reduce violence against women. If you know anything about logic this is an irrelevant argument that one should expect from liberals, but when I can easily respond why not! JMU's Take Back the Night is

Amit in the 8th
2008-03-14 12:13:00
Amit Singh is contending for the republican nomination in the 8th district. He’s a principled conservative and I’m endorsing him for the nomination (as if anyone cares). I recently had the chance to ask him a couple questions. Here’s an excerpt: Q: Who is your least favorite president and why?A: While I applaud his leadership and work in civil rights, Lyndon Johnson made some errors that I

6th District Dems & Human Sacrifice Metaphors
2008-03-13 01:04:00
Rep. Goodlatte's (R-6th) Democratic challenger will have the honor of being the first Dem to face off against him in ten years! Goodlatte will easily spank whoever it may be, but before the carnage takes place it seems the two Democrats vying for nomination have sparked an intra-party squabble that includes some great campaign cannibalism. To begin, Sam Rasoul made the faux pas of the year by
