SEO, SEM and Some New SEO/ SEM Issues
2007-02-19 02:25:51
SEO, SEO, SEO; another computer acronym to add to the ever growing list. However if your a web developer and this one isn’t in your vocabulary, then there are defiantly some problems. If you are one of the few, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, usually synonymous with SEM or Search Engine Marketing. These two acronyms should be on the top of your vocab as a developer, because whats a website if no one can find it or even worse knows about it. SEM and SEO are all about website promotion since the latest stats say that 80% of all persons looking for a website will use a search engine. So with that said it is pretty critical to get your website listed on the top of the search engine rankings, preferably the top 10 also known as the infamous “first page” results. With a whopping estimated 75% of the search engine market, Yahoo! and Google are of course the most critical. With over half the market using Yahoo! and Google, it should also be your task to learn these

What Should My New Car Be?
2007-02-11 16:44:14
My 1999 Jeep Cherokee has spent half of it’s life with me. I bought it just before I graduated high school with a mere 50,000 miles on it. It is now 8 years old and approaching 100,000 miles. So I have decided it is time and I will finally replace her this summer. I am a person who really plans out things, especially when it will cost a lot. I plan on spending around $20,000 and have setup some qualities I am looking for in a car: It has to be comfortable and fun to drive. Want it to have some pickup, but nothing crazy. An automatic tranny with either steering wheel mounted paddle shifters or stick shifter I am an audiophile, so a great sound system with an iPod hookup Lastly, something that is sharp looking and has a sunroof So with that said I have narrowed down my search to three vehicles, two are new and one is used. My favorite car company is Toyota which owns Lexus and Scion, so two of the vehicles are from that company. All of the cars have pretty much what I want; some

Super Bowl Sunday and Some Good Commercials
2007-02-05 15:50:25
It was a good Super Bowl, I thought it was over with the first touchdown from the Bears; guess I was wrong. I am of course a big New York Jets fan, being a born and raised New Yorker - however they didn’t make it again this year. So I went for the Bears this time around, could not even pick the winning Super Bowl team, lol. In any case, thought I would live up to my promise on getting some videos and interesting things on here and show you my picks of the best super bowl commercial and my opinion of the best one of all-time: The Best of this Years Super Bowl Commercials Even though I am not a fan of GM they tied with one of my favorite comedians, Carlos Mencia’s, commercial for the best Super Bowl Commercial this year, here they are: The Best of All Time Super Bowl Commercials Come on don’t you wanna work here????

Formatting Web Pages to be Printer Friendly using CSS and Javascript
2007-01-22 05:08:15
Hello fellow web developers, another web design topic to tell you all about. Today’s blog topic is going to be a collage of setting up your website to print in a well formatted way using CSS of course! I will also discus how you can print individual sections of your site through another Java Script/ CSS gem I found on the internet (How to Print Selective Sections of a Website), a great solution for a hand coded FAQs sheet. Sorry the blog does not have any cool pics or neat YouTube videos, but I will get there. I am working on this thing while working my three jobs, so time permitting I will be expanding on this as much as I can. When it comes to CSS, I think the most overlooked item when setting up your styles is a printing format. By now you should be utilizing CSS for your web design along with external stylesheets. However many developers are just setting up one or two external sheets to define how their site shall be laid out. You need to go beyond this and set up a separate

Best Business Model: Make Your Customers an Employee
2007-01-05 05:47:52
I recently starting receiving the magazine from Business Week called “Small Biz.” It is probably the best magazine for small businesses I have read in a while and I defiantly recommend it. In any case, I found a great article in the past issue about making your customers employees titled: True Believers. I did some research on the internet on this one and love the idea. Here is how it works: Instead of dictating to your customers of what to buy and how to buy it from yourself, allow them to make that decision. Sounds confusion right? How can you possibly allow your customers set your product line and decide how to sell your products? Believe it or not, it is possible and easy to implement. I feel that the business model may not be that usable in all sectors, such as in my sector of web design, however a portion of it can be used somewhere in your business to enhance it. In addition I think this model is ideally suited for the retail industry since it has the most customer i

Well I did it! I proposed to the love of my life and girl friend of now almost 3 years. I did it at (Wollman TRUMP (lol) Ice Rink in Central Park), a definite must do if your in the city. As for the ring, I think I should pass on my wisdom for the bachelor’s who are about to make “the big leap”. Like always I did some big research with this one and got educated. So for the weeks I spent learning, I hope this past on wisdom helps you guys out. First off, I bought online. I looked into the “mall stores” and they were WAY over priced. Then I looked at the local stores and they were close to where I wanted to be. Then I found the perfect online store, with some great prices! I decided to go with an online store named James Allen (James Allen). From the start, these guys were right up front and helpful. I would defiantly recommend them as an option during your search. Hello World! LOL, for some reason that simple phrase reminds me of what seems a million years of trial and error programming. Through my limited years of college, I can remember writing Assembler programs for dinosaur IBM P390 servers for hours. In my first assignments, just so the screen can produce those words. In any case, my name is Jason Fisch and this is my blog. I never thought myself as a blogger, but in my job field I have found it to be critical to run one in order to network and figure out those big roadblocks. Although I went to school for programming big IBM servers, I have traveled a different path of web design. An interest and hobby since I was 14 and now my own business. Now that’s out of the way, I am currently working on my companies site. While I am at it, let me put you on a great Java script I am currently using and have modified. I know Java script right, who needs AJAXs when you have some good old java script. To stay on track now and

Flickr Photo Album Review, Solved Major Web 2.0 Theme Issues with Plug-In
2007-03-12 04:40:58
As you know, I use Word Press for my blog. As many developers do, I also feel it among the best blog suites out in the market - especially as open source freeware. One of the major pluses to it or any software is its plug-ins. Word Press developers love to make them and there are literally millions of them. One major project of my blog was to make a photo album section, so as always I spent about 2 or 3 days doing some major research on the topic and I have found what I think is a home run for your Word Press Blog. However as always I ran into some issues with customizing it with my theme, a problem I have scene with numerous other Word Press blogs who use the Web 2.0 Theme . Rest assured though I fixed those problems too. The Flickr Photo Album Plug-In ( Tan Tan Noodles ), is a great plug-in for Word Press. However before I even talk about the plug-in, I have to talk about the step before it. I needed to decide if using my own server or a third party service to host my pictures. Doing

It’s That Time Again! Fantasy Baseball Season and the Beacon Mets are Back
2007-03-13 20:12:46
I have been playing fantasy baseball since 2000 with my fantasy team, the Beacon Mets. I have had some good seasons and some bad seasons, but it is always a fun time. Now in our 8th season we hope to have a repeat of last years season being the World Series Champs of our league. One thing we also hope to hold on to is that every time we make the playoffs, we win the World Series. A big bragging and intimidation record we hold. One other interesting fact also is every time Lance Berkman is our MVP, we also win the World Series. So we have Lance again this year and are ready for 07 and our third World Series Title. This years draft turned out pretty good. Although we are a better offensive team than pitching; we are happy to take the best catcher, Joe Mauer, and closer, Francisco Rodríguez, in baseball as well as this years number one prospect, Delmon Young. If anything holds us back though it would have to be our starting rotation that has three injury prone starters that pose a great

Biggest Evolutions in Computers in YEARS!!!
2007-03-28 02:15:54
We are in the era of the biggest evolution in computers since the PC was introduced in the early 80s. However this time it is not one object that is making it so revolutionary, it is multiple that have allowed us to finally reach the potential of computing and the Internet. All designed to allow us to easily enjoy our life’s and to easy interact with each other. More than ever we can do this with a handful of new technology that have been released from about 2002 to now. These technologies are so revolutionary I am naming this the biggest evolution since the car, lol. Well maybe not that big - but close… Number 4. Although wired networking is not as interesting of a topic as wireless, it is here to stay. Wired is much more secure and reliable than wireless, it will take years for
