Cork transfer case 2007-04-06 11:16:23 Cork City's transfer
saga could mean that FIFA will have to take another look at their transfer regulations. Cork signed Gareth Farrelly and Colin Healy on free transfers but following an appeal FIFA ruled that neither could be cleared to play. But this week FIFA threw out the appeal barring the two players from working in football again until July 1. It means FIFA's rule is in conflict with European Union law which forbids restrictions for its citizens to work when and where they want.Cork still have the right to a further appeal through the footballing authorities but the players themselves could take the matter to the European courts. It is believed that as many as 30 players hoping to register for Irish clubs face similar problems. The Finnish FA has already decided to ignore FIFA's rule and allow players to register under these same circumstances.

Heineken Cup Safe? Maybe 2007-04-12 07:56:49 Directors and shareholders of European rugby are due to meet in Dublin today to discuss the future of the competition after the English & French clubs pulled out. On Monday, the IRB rowed in to the ongoing civil wars between French and English unions and their clubs, accusing the renegade clubs of "absolutely disgraceful" actions.Although the irascible statement didn't clearly entertain prospects of a meeting, the clubs have accepted the thorny olive branch and last night wrote to the IRB's Irish chairman, Dr Syd Millar, requesting round table discussions. LinkBut as Tom's Sporting Almanac points out maybe rugby fans could use the Heineken
Cup mess to show their support for the Magners League instead. Read more:Maybe
