This is Polyphemus the cyclops? blinded by Odysseus, the reference is from an image on Wikipedia I was just doodling but with this one I have a sense of resonance - simply that this is an odyssey, to do these sketches, and they do take me places. The blindness is getting to me. I have two dream posts (see category) one is called “blind” and another is similar, and is calling for glasses. What is that? Reading a book, A Writer’s Paris , by Eric Maisel I bought it because I like the sketches by Danny Gregory but the book is lovely in its tone. It is totally relevant for me at this moment - substitute sketching for writing (unless you call this writing) and Paris for anywhere and it is the right book for me now! It is helpful on such things as discipline & freedom, getting in the mood, how to get unstuck. I think Eric Maisel is a psychotherapist & he sounds like a good one to me! #370 Tarzan Click for larger image. I hesitate to post this image, things can get kitchy enough around here, but, 1. I just read a great book. 2. The topic came up in a forum I am in. 3. I had the digital liquid ink pen in my hand & I could not help it. 4. It just occurred to me it would be fun to try an Elvis tag. 5. I am a fan! 6. Elvis looks like David, the classic artist subject. This one will be printed on pure purple velvet (at the right price). I have not forgotten what I wrote in an earlier post: I can only do very few images in this blind way… I think developing a repertoire of these "autopix" will help my flow. I did the next four with my eyes shut, (not the fill just the outlines) of course I deleted God know how many, but slowly the ability to do these is in my hand, not my head. Quite liberating, and I think the freedom comes through. So the next few posts are more of this genre I call autopix. Oh, they are done in one line. All over the place

I have not posted sketches for a while. I have some stored up, not all that pleased with them, but I have been learning a lot. Learning to use Corel Painter IX, it is quite hard but I love mastering little things one step at a time. But that is not the main thing I am getting from this pause. I am looking at what I am doing. I am all over the place. On the one hand that is a challenge, get focussed. Narrow down. Build on what I have, sort, select and make more of themes and deepen them. On the other hand it is just right. I am all over the place. Not really a Kiwi, not really an Australian, not really Dutch. And I have just given up a psychological writing focus (that was a bit messy but needed attention) for this art project. Thousand Sketches is throwing everything I am doing into a bit of a crisis. So on many levels I am all over the place. That means there is congruity and authenticity and the project is working as a mirror. Just as it should. I am thinking I need to simp
