Listen to X360R on AGI 2007-02-19 02:39:57
So Friday, in a bit of a drunken haze, I was asked to call into All Games Interactive and defend the Xbox 360 in a courtroom-style trial against the PS3, and Nintendo Wii. It broke down like this:
DerrickH - PS3
ravensdolphin - Wii
MaximusPaynicus (Me) - 360, naturally
Suffice to say I won, but I do admit that, because it IS the Xbox 360, and I knew I had all the cards anyways, I didn’t try too hard. In fact, I more of less goofed off on half of it. I do apologize for the coughing you hear — I had a cold. Either way, I hope you enjoy, and support All Games Interactive and All Games Radio. They’re good people.

t3h w31rd: February 18th, 2007 2007-02-18 06:07:51
Before we begin t3h w31rd this week, I want to speak personally for a bit…
Yesterday (Saturday), I was forced to put down my cat, Spaz. He was less than a year old when he started getting ill. Upon taking him to the veterinarian, we learned that he had feline leukemia, and would have to be put down in order to keep it from spreading to the other cats. I loved Spaz dearly, as I do with all my pets, and I only hope he has found peace, and that he is happy wherever he may be.
And now, on to t3h w31rd…
Xbox 360 Used in PS3 Kiosk
This is the only thing I could find this week that really made me go “Whoa… that’s freakin’ crazy!” But again, I’ve had a bad week, so maybe my heart just wasn’t in it. But even this had me going “Daaaaamn.” So, let me explain the story.
In Sydney, there is a PS3 kiosk. It looks like a PS3, the games look like a PS3. But notice something? Those cords in the back aren’t PS3 cords, are they? Read more:February
Halo 3 Controller Layout 2007-02-17 19:43:53
Ok, so Bungie, in one of it’s weekly updates that went online today, unveiled the control scheme for Halo 3’s multi-player BETA.
And no, they don’t tell us what the damn X button does.
Left and right sticks: Movement and look. Just like H2.
Click left and right sticks: Crouch and zoom - just like H2, although there is a "toggle crouch" option, so that you can stay crouched until you click the stick again.
A: Jump
B: Melee attack. Note: B may also be used to activate a subtle, but nifty context-sensitive feature.
Y: Switch to next weapon.
X: Activate mysterious new feature which on the cool scale falls somewhere between "crouch" and "activate Fantanas on speed dial"
LT: Toss grenade.
RT: Shoot weapon.
LB: Cycle grenade type (you have at least three types of grenade now, so they must be cycled rather than switched).
RB: Pick up weapon/activate stuff/reload/use turrets and so on.
Note: If you hold LB while standing over a dual wieldable weapon, you'll

J.W.'s Notes: A Defense of Gaming in Print 2007-02-16 21:36:30 Gaming
Magazine sales are down. Well… duh.
James Ashton was recently interview by GamesIndustry.biz, and in that interview he says that the primary cause for the falling circulation number for the OPSM3 magazine (Official Playstation 3 Magazine) is because of “transition” from the last-generation to the current one. This actually makes a good bit of sense when you look at the past figures: Any publication that focuses exclusively on one console is going to experience a sharp decline when that console becomes obsolete. It’s common sense, stupid.
In the report from ABC, the listings for the Official Playstation 2 magazine have it falling sharply by 24%. Well, this is natural when you consider the PS2 is on it’s last legs, with God of War II being the old console’s swan song. Just about every Playstation Publication was down in readership, but this is not very surprising considering the waning interest in the ancient PS2 combined with the almost tran Read more:Notes

New Skate Screenshots 2007-02-16 17:41:05
You know, ever since Tony Hawk reared his ugly head back in 1999, every major video game publisher has been trying to get a slice of the Tony Hawk pie. Even though I, personally, thought the little known Grind Session to be the superior game to Tony Hawk, Tony Hawk had the better marketing and bigger name, so it was Tony Hawk that took off. But after Grind Session, we didn’t see any real contenders to the Tony Hawk crown until Electronic Arts announced “Skate
.”
Now, when I first heard of “Skate” I will admit, I was skeptical. But then Tony Hawk’s Project 8 was released, and I quickly realized that now is the prime time for someone to strike and take the Skateboarding crown from Activision. You know, much like Activision did to EA with the WWII shooters.
Set in the fictional town of San Valelona, and featuring 14 pro skateboarders (none of which the average player has heard of, I’m sure), Skate promises to be a definite departure from the Ton Read more:Screenshots
The Halo 3 BETA FAQ 2007-02-16 17:19:42
Ok, if you haven’t noticed by now, I’ve been trying to avoid any Halo 3 news. Why? Because every other video game blog in the WORLD is going to be covering everything associated with Halo 3, from updates on it’s BETA registration, to when the guy in charge of animating the grass goes to the bathroom. “What, Alex Seropian sneezed? Fascinating!” What I’m getting at is that there has been a LOT of pointless Halo 3 news out there that, frankly, I don’t care about.
With that said, this is actually pretty interesting. Over at Bungie.net, they have posted the official Halo 3 BETA FAQ, which answers a lot of the questions that people have been asking (although it neglects the ever important “Is Master Chief the long-lost son of Robert Goulet?”). Some of the questions answered include how many people are in on the BETA testing process (Quote: “Many, many thousands”), if there is still any way to get in on the BETA (Paraphrase:

Microsoft first discovered their mistake when someone (probably a consumer) realized that they are being charged taxes for credit card purchases. Upon noticing their error, Microsoft quickly took steps to correcting it, and are now refunding everyone who has been wronged.
I should note that if your card is out of date or otherwise no good, you may want to get ahold of Microsoft and tell them of the billing inconsistency, otherwise you ain’t gettin’ poo. To the rest of you, feel free to tell me how much you got back from Microsoft. I’m curious about it, myself.

Peugeot Contest Winner Announced 2007-02-15 22:35:12 Peugeot
, the Italian Automotive Company that co-sponsored a contest with Microsoft Game Studios today announced the winner to their “design a car” contest. For a brief recap, Peugeot and MGS held a contest in which you were to design concept cars for an “upcoming Microsoft Game Studios racer” which, as we all figured out in about five minutes, would be Project Gotham Racer 4. Well now we have a winner, and that winner (seen above) is… “Flux.”
The winner, who would also have his concept car appear in full-scale model form at the Frankfurt Auto Show (Yeah, I never heard of it, either) was a one Mihai Panaitescu. When asked how he named his concept car, he was quoted as saying:
The name Flux was inspired by the continuous change and flow of our daily lives during work and play.
…that’s deep, dude. He went on to further explain the name, in regards to the actual auto manufacturer:
The shape also represents this flow with transitions t Read more:Contest

Just letting you guys know that Xbox Live will be down for a few hours, from 5:00am EST to 8:00am EST for your typical maintenance. This isn’t anything too big to worry about, but you can never be too sure with Microsoft. Will we be getting an update? Perhaps one that enables more Xbox games for play on the 360? …not likely.

Halo 3 Cameo Auction Underway (plus Halo 4 Announced?) 2007-02-19 20:43:34
Remember when I brought up the story of the Hollywood Arts honoring Tommy Tallarico, and having an auction where one of the prizes was a cameo in Halo 3? Well, the auction is now underway over at eBay, but something struck me as most peculiar in the description:
The ultimate coolness…your voice, as a character, in one the most played video games ever…imagine it!! Be a part of history!
Voiceover will be recorded at Blindlight Studios in Hollywood, CA before May 15, 2007 or this package will have to redeemed for Halo 4. Winner is responsible for transportation and accommodations to and from Hollywood, CA.
…huh? So, what is being said here is that, if the winner doesn’t get out to California by 15 May 2007 (Sorry, that’s how we write it in the Army) the winner gets a copy of Halo 4?

Halo 3 BETA Pushed Back to "Spring, Possibly Late Spring" 2007-02-19 18:44:22
The salty tears of Halo fanboys who wanted in on the Halo 3 BETA are streaming like a raging river right now, I’m sure. Why? Because Bungie announced in thir Weekly Update (the same one with the FAQ) that they were pushing back the launch of the Halo 3 BETA for undisclosed reasons.
There are still many details of the Halo 3 beta to be finalized but one thing we did want to confirm is that the beta will not be starting next week. Crackdown will be available in stores starting Tuesday, 2/20, but the Halo 3 multiplayer beta start date is still being finalized. We're still aiming for a Spring
release, but it could be more like late Spring.
As soon as we have some firm details we'll be sure to pass them along. In the meantime, enjoy Crackdown itself, which is a blast to play (especially co-op). And don't forget that we still have new Halo 2 hotness coming in the form of brand new multiplayer maps still slated for release this Spring. We'll have more to say about all Read more:Pushed
GRAW 2 [multiplayer] demo "This Week?" 2007-02-19 06:04:24
As I’m sure you know, the GRAW 2 demo is, in short, most excellent. But according to Hexus, Ubisoft is poised to release a Multi-Player demo “This Week.”
A multiplayer demo to GRAW 2 isn’t something that I would consider unlikely. They released one with the first game, and the demo is still played fairly regularly over Live. Where I question the validity of the “statement” is with when they say it’s due. “This week” sounds a little soon. When the Single-player demo was released, Ubisoft made a big stink out of it, letting the news get out to everyone they could. I highly doubt that a Ubisoft representative would let news of the multi-player demo slip out to anybody.
But, weirder has happened. You can bet I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Crackdown Gets Four New Agents 2007-02-20 17:17:55 Crackdown
has been on the market for about twelve hours now, and already there is a free download for the damn thing. Entitled the “Four-Play Pack” (Bow chica bow wow?), the download is basically four more skins for your agent. In addition to the typical skin of a big, burly guy with a goatee, you also have one who looks like a ninja, another who looks like he’s wearing Sam Fisher gear, and one who reminds me of Junkman from The Incredible Crash Dummies.
They didn’t waste any time getting those updates on Live, did they? Either way, they’re all available for download right now.

New Releases: February 20th, 2007 2007-02-20 07:39:40
Two games for the 360 this week: Luckilly, they’re both highly anticipated games, as well.
Crackdown
You know, that game that came bundled with the Halo 3 BETA. Crackdown throws you into the future, as you play a police officer fighting against crime as you take down gangs in this underachieving GTA-style shooter. But, if you like the idea of leveling your character’s strength up to where he throw cars like pebbles, and leap tall buindings in a single bound, much like a butch Superman, then this game is probably for you. Everyone else… unless you love Halo 3 THAT much, avoid it.
NBA Street: Homecourt
EA’s answer to the now defunct NBA Jam series has returned in NBA Street: Homecourt. Play as your favorite player (Chauncey!) or team (Deeetroit Baaaaske–I am so not cool) on the most famous of street ball courts in some of the most over-the-top NBA action you will find. Hell, it’s at least guaranteed to be more exciting than the All-Star Game.

Double Dragon, Wing Commander Coming to the XBLA 2007-02-22 08:18:28
The ESRB has a tendency to announce games before they are supposed to be public knowledge. When they updated their ratings for the Xbox 360, two titles immediately popped out: Double Dragon
, and Wing Commander
, although it was renamed “Wing Commander
Arena.” Don’t believe me? Look for yourself. Double Dragon
, which is being ported by Empire Interactive, is rumored to be getting a graphical polish before it’s release, much like games like Contra and Time Pilot has received. (For the record, both games have “Enhanced” and “Original” options for the game’s graphics)
As for Wing Commander Arena, we know almost nothing. Other than the fact that it’s going to be released by Electronic Arts. And that it’s Wing Commander, which is really reason enough to get excited, when you think about it.
You know, publishers need to sit down with the ESRB and say “Listen, we don’t want you putting our games on your list until we

Software quieting the 360? …WTF? 2007-02-23 06:48:31
Ok, there has been a story going around the net the past few days that has slowly been picking up steam. That story: That a software update will quiet the Xbox 360. The question: How will software quiet the 360? I think I can explain.
After doing a little reasearch on a poorly translated Deutsch website, I think I know how they’re going to try it. The new software update will give developers to create games that can run at lower speeds than they do right now. Currently, the disc drive runs at full speed for all games (which, for Xbox classics like KOTOR, still doesn’t help), with out any option to slow it. While a slower speed would undoubtedly slow load times, it could also cut back on systems overheating.
…ok, I think that’s what it said. I have no idea, ok? I had to dig that crap out of THIS:
Microsoft delivers since short one a software update to the technical literature, which makes the Xbox360 substantially quieter. The possibility is given by the update Read more:Software

GRAW 2 Multiplayer Demo Confirmed. At last. 2007-02-22 19:08:46
Remember earlier this week when rumor was abound that GRAW 2 was due “this week?” Yeah, well Ubisoft has confirmed that the multiplayer demo to their upcoming Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 will be coming to Xbox Live on February 26th. TMNT, GRAW 2 Achievements Unlocked 2007-02-23 20:17:11
If you aren’t aware of Xbox360Achievements.org, you should be. If you have ever wondered what those “Secret Achievements” are that are inside some games, these are the guys you turn to in order to find out those nasty little secrets. Well, if you go there right now, you will find achievements for two games that aren’t exactly available to the masses: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.
Without listing every damn achievement, I’ll just summarize: TMNT has 23 achievements adding up to 1000 points, and GRAW 2 has 43 achievements adding up to 1000 points. When you look at the GRAW 2 achievements, you can already tell that you’re gonna be putting some serious time into the game, not to say you wouldn’t otherwise, though. As for TMNT… they’re weak. You could do every one of those playing one time through, if the stars aligned.

Alien Hominid Coming Next Wednesday 2007-02-24 19:10:15
In an interview with superblog 1UP, Aaron Greenberg was on the defensive over the lack of stellar Xbox Live Arcade titles over the past several weeks. In addition to the traditional lines supporting their handling of XBLA, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. There were a few things from the interview that were notable, and worthy of mention
1.) Greenberg promised that we will be seeing new XBLA titles at the coming GDC in March.
2.) He acknowledged that the past few weeks have, quote, “We hear the feedback, I can assure you that these last few weeks of Xbox Live Arcade releases was not the way we planned it…”
3.) AlienHominid

Yup, in the interview with 1UP, Greenberg gave us this little gem:

KotOR 3 in Development? *Schwing!* 2007-02-24 08:13:29
Ok, I am an absolutely HUGE fan of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. Absolutely freaking huge. I have, at one time or another, owned all four versions on the market (Two for the Xbox, Two for the PC), and even broke them out to play on my Xbox 360. For those of you who have tried to play them on the 360… it’s not pleasant. So, when I was perusing the Xbox forums, and saw the threat entitled “Knights of the Old Republic 3 info” you can only imagine how stoked I was.
On the Official Xbox Forums, a man claims that he has an old colleague working at Pandemic (not too unbelievable — we all have to work, right?), and that this colleague has learned that the order to develop the KotOR
3 website has been given! That would mean, obviously, that there must be a KotOR 3 game coming. After all, why else would you want a KotOR 3 website?

UPDATE: Best Buy Selling Games at $1.99 2007-02-26 22:13:46 Earlier today I posted that Best Buy
was selling games for the Xbox 360 and other consoles for as cheap as $1.99. Well, after calling three seperate Best Buy stores for some kind of confirmation on this, I was told one thing: It’s online, and they’re sold out.
This could be a simple case of ignorance on the part of the employees of Best Buy (I wouldn’t put it past them), but as of right now it seems that the big Best Buy game sale is an online-only venture.

Master Chief would kick Spider-Man's ass 2007-02-26 20:40:33
Even if Halo 3 winds up being the final title in the series to follow MasterChief
(not very likely, but I also expected an ending to Halo 2), his story will continue to be told thanks to Marvel Comics. Taken from Newsawama’s coverage of the New York Comic Con:
Quesada also announced a Halo ongoing, naming Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev as the surprise creative team on the new series.
For those of you who don’t know how cool this really is, let me elaborate: Brian Michael Bendis is one of the fathers of the Ultimate Marvel universe, and Ultimate Spider
-Man in particular. In addition to his Ultimate Marvel work, he has also written Eisner Award winning stories for the Daredevil series.
Alex Maleev worked with Bendis on the Daredevil comics, as well as working on issues of the New Avengers, The Crow and will be working on Spider-Woman with the aforementioned Bendis.
So in short, what that means is… it’s gonna freaking rock.

Mill O' Rumour: TMNT on the Arcade? 2007-02-26 08:05:19
See that image? That is a leaked screen shot of the menu screen to an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade version of the 1989 classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade game! In an e-mail sent to 360style.net, a “Random Rumor Mole” gave the following statement:
TMNT Arcade is coming to XBLA arcade. It hasn’t been announced yet, and no release date is set, but it is currently in testing at Microsoft.
If this turns out to be true (which I assume it is, otherwise that is a GREAT forgery), then you can expect another hit for Microsoft, and considering the timing of this (with the TMNT movie and corresponding game due soon) it’s hard to argue that this is a fake.

Video Games have turned into a multi-billion dollar industry, employing tens of thousands of dedicated and hard working people to keep the gears of the gaming juggernaut well oiled. They provide entertainment and inspiration to millions with their work, turning going to the mall into a compulsion for an entire sect of people who would otherwise still be hidden in their parents basements.
Naturally, every once in a while you’re going to have something pretty damn strange happen. That is why this exists. This is… t3h w31rd.
Murder in the name of Arcades
This is actually a tragic story out of Japan, so I will keep the comments to a minimum. A 21-year-old, in his third-year at Nihon University, has admitted to killing two elderly people so he could steal their money, and spend it at the local arcade. Said Hiroshi Shimura, quote:
