Stewart, Earnhardt think bad of Goodyear's tires 2008-03-10 21:30:46 Personally I think
it's the bump stops and not the tires
, but that's just my opinion. The balancing act between safety concerns and competition that Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. faces each week was the post-race focus of several top finishers Sunday. It left both sides defensive and fans wondering what happened to the typical side-by-side racing for which Atlanta Motor Speedway is famous.Tony Stewart
, who finished second in the Kobalt Tools 500, and third-place finisher Dale Earnhardt
Jr. were outspoken in their criticism for the tire compound brought to Atlanta. There were no tire failures reported during the race, but the two agreed that the harder tire made it almost impossible for drivers to run side-by-side. Only thirteen cars were on the lead lap at the finish."That was the most pathe

What you can do about the Marine/Puppy Incident 2008-03-06 22:57:25 From: The Humane Society of the United StatesDate: Mar 6, 2008 5:53 PMAs noted in the press release, we have sent a strongly-worded letter to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates asking that the soldiers in the video are punished to the fullest extent of military law. Killing non-working animals on military bases in Iraq is not against any specific rules, but we would like to note that cruelty to animals by US soldiers is thankfully rare. Please note that The HSUS/HSI is not a law enforcement agency and we have no authority over the investigation into this incident. It is a US military issue that is now being handled internally by the Department of Defense and the United States Marine
Corps. The most recent posting on the DoD website reiterates the investigation and serious approach that the Ma Read more:Puppy

Edwards hit with penalty, loses lead in Cup standings 2008-03-05 16:43:32 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the No. 99 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The No. 99 car driven by Carl Edwards
was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-2.1J (any device or duct work that permits air to pass from one area of the interior of the car to another, or to the outside of the car, will not be permitted. Good News! 2008-03-04 22:22:14 Ok, forgive me if I repeat myself, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. I'm surprised I know what day it is...ummm, errr, tomorrow is Wednesday...right? When we visited my MIL today, her drain was out and so far everything is good. The Physical Therapists helped Mom to the bathroom because she no longer had the catheter in her. She also walked a little bit and finally sat in a chair. She could not believe how exhausted she was afterwards. The PT's will be doing this with her twice a day until she gets the ok to go home. She will need some home care just to make sure all her vitals are ok, otherwise she should be just fine. Her sister is flying in from Washington State to help her for a while. Her sister is a RN so that will be wonderful for her. I'll continue to update you if you wan Read more:Good News
NASCAR finds 'issue' with 99 in post-race inspection 2008-03-02 22:53:01 LAS VEGAS -- Carl Edwards' Sprint Cup victory in the UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will stand, but he's likely to lose some of the driver and owner points he earned after NASCAR
officials found "an issue
" with his No. 99 Ford in post-race inspection late Sunday.NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Edwards' car did not fail post-race inspection. But inspectors did find something amiss."We had an issue in post-race inspection with the 99. The lid on the oil reservoir encasement, or the oil tank box, was off," Poston said. "So we're going to take the 99 back to the [NASCAR] Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., and if there are any actions that need to be taken, those will be taken and announced next week."Earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR of
Viva Las Vegas 2008-03-02 22:12:03 Ok, I never thought that Carl Edwards would have won the race with all that he and his team went thru today.First he was penalized when one of his tires rolled away from his pit during a stop. Then, Carl avoided another penalty when it happened again. But NASCAR determined the tire broke free because a cameraman was obviously in the way.“When you think you didn’t actually break a rule, you have to keep a level head,” said crew chief Bob Osborne, who immediately climbed off the pit box to make a case against being penalized.“I wanted to go ballistic and yell and scream and kick and punch and do whatever I had to do to get my way. But I kept a level head and NASCAR reviewed it.”I'm not a Tony Stewart fan, but I was a little worried about him when I saw his face when he exited his c Read more:Vegas

What a up and down couple of weeks 2008-02-29 16:27:14 It's been a very up and down couple
of weeks to say the least. As you know, we went to Florida to visit my parents as well as to go to the races at Daytona. We drove because we didn't want to leave our dog cooped up in the house. Gunner (our Chesapeake bay retriever) was a very good boy all the way down and adjusted well to my parent's house. However, my mom made the mistake of letting her bird out and Gunner killed it. UGH! While my mom was burying the bird, I figured I'd better clean up the blood off the carpet as soon as possible. I mistakenly took the bottle of Clorox clean-up instead of the rug cleaner and bleached my parent's beige carpet!!!! So, I spent $200 on a beautiful area rug to cover my mistake up. Needless to say I wanted to just pack up and leave, but my mother begged

I am back from Florida 2008-02-26 20:40:54 I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we had a wonderful vacation. The bad news is that we were alerted that my mother-in-law was rushed to the hospital yesterday afternoon. We were still traveling home and there was no way we could drive straight thru. Joey's mom had a ruptured aneurysm. She went from our local hospital and was transferred to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. When we finally made it home to NJ this afternoon we dropped off our dog and our luggage and drove to the hospital. My mother-in-law was combative and confused. She thought the year was 1975, however she remembered everyone's name including one of her dogs. Basically, the little bit of blood that did end up in her brain caused pressure, so they are drilling a hole in her head Read more:Florida

Bud Shootout 2008-02-10 11:21:16 Wow, what a race! I'm still grinning from ear to ear.Last night's race was everything and more. I have to admit I was very worried about the COT and how it would perform. Yes the COT was a handful, but after watching the passing, the side by side racing, I believe everyone including NASCAR is pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the car.Now I would like to take this time to say a few thank you's:Thank you to NASCAR for putting on a great show. I hope last night's race is something we'll see on a regular basis.Thank you to all the drivers for putting on a great show.Thank you to Kurt Busch for not causing a huge wreck and managing not to wreck yourself in the process. That was some driving!Thank you to Jeff Gordon and especially Jimmie Johnson for being such wonderful teammates to Junior

Your thoughts 2008-02-09 12:23:06 What did you think about all the craziness that happened during yesterday's practice for the Bud Shootout? Were you appalled that certain drivers let there emotions get the best of them and retaliated?Or were you like me, rather "amped up" (sorry, had to use it) that they showed emotion and looking forward to seeing what happens during tonight's shootout?I've been reading different posts about this very subject all morning and it seems that some bloggers are more for the "let drivers show their emotions" side. Now let me make something clear, I am not saying that what happened was right, but come on folks, NASCAR has been on this "curb all negative emotions or you will regret it" kick for years and I think it's wrong.I personally believe that NASCAR has taken the spirit out of stock car raci Read more:thoughts

Thanks Dale 2008-03-16 13:24:11 Jarrett will make the last points-race start of his career on Sunday in the Food City 500. "I've very happy with the decision (to retire), and it is starting to hit home," said Jarrett, who scored his lone win at Bristol in the night race of 1997. "It's going to be somewhat emotional because it's going to be close to home and I am going to be able to have a lot of family and friends around."Jarrett finished 26th in his last Atlanta race. "We would've liked to end up in the top 25, but we just got really loose in the closing laps and lost a few positions," said Jarrett. "Our team made big strides from qualifying and practice (with the handling of the car), and that's a good step in the right direction." After winning a championship and 32 races during his 24-year career, Jarrett said he doe Read more:Thanks

A "Rip" Roaring Good Time 2008-03-19 23:38:56 From the Sirius site:Operation Wax Smoke was a huge success, raising over $125,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. DeLana & Kevin Harvick, and national motorsports correspondent Ford Martin joined Tony and Matt Yocum at an "undisclosed location" for a rip-roaring good time. There was no shortage of donations to hear Tony suffer throught the pain and indignity of having his famously-furry back waxed live on the air. It remains to be seen if the procedure will improve race times for the sleeker and more-aero Smoke. Click here to listen to the clips of Tony Stewart's show.
