Sony might let Microsoft use Blu-ray on Xbox 360 2008-03-09 13:29:27 According to The Financial Times, Sony
might be on the verge of allowing rivals Microsoft
use Blu-ray technology on the Xbox
360.With HD-DVD seeming like it will be overtaken by Blu-ray DVDs, it looks like the HD add-on for the Xbox 360 won't be of much use. Microsoft have acknowledged this and are on the brink of an agreement with Sony that will give them the rights to use Blu-ray on the console. The problem I see with this is, the predicted price of a Blu-ray add-on will be in the range of $300. At this price you might as well just buy a PS3.
Google and Microsoft to fight for Digg 2008-03-08 02:24:14 Digg have said the they are prepared to accept a bid of less than $300 million. Google
stated that they would be likely to bid around $200 - $225 million. Microsoft
are aiming for a lower price because most of Digg's income has been thanks to an advertising deal with Microsoft.Digg raised $250,000 per month in 2006 and is likely to have increased.

EA to buy Grand Theft Auto for $2bn? 2008-03-02 12:23:09 The Grand
Theft Auto series's publisher; Take-Two has received a bid from EA games of 2 billion dollars to take over the franchise. Some might argue that it could potentially kill the series because most people know it as a Take-Two game. I think that it could actually do it some good, I mean, EA doesn't exactly have a bad track record. But still, all this is assuming the takeover happens in the first place...
NTT DoCoMo D904i: The Wii of Cell Phones? 2008-02-27 15:39:18 The NTT DoCoMo
D904i will be the first cell phone to offer motion sensitive gaming. The phone will use it's camera to track the player's movements. The screen can also be tilted to move a ball around the screen in a "Super Monkey Ball"-esque style. The question is: how will a player know what's happening if they are playing a boxing game and ducking and weaving at the same time? Won't the screen be a bit blured?

Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080 HD: Reviewed 2008-02-23 13:24:19 The good: This 50-inch plasma TV displays an exceedingly deep shade of black with excellent shadow detail; clean image with little noise; "smooth" video-processing mode removes most judder; excellent antireflective screen; sleek, minimalist styling; removable speaker; superb connectivity with four HDMI inputs and one PC input; CableCard compatible with TV Guide EPG. The bad: Expensive; inaccurate primary color of green; no user-menu fine color temperature controls. The bottom line: The Pioneer

FIFA 08 vs Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 2008-02-21 12:07:23 This has to be one of THE biggest battles in games lately. Comparison between the two heavyweights of soccer games has been going on for as long as they have been around, but these two are completely different in style but very close in quality.I'll start with FIFA. This year, the major difference has been the addition of various tricks that can be done by holding LT (Xbox 360) or L2 (PS3). This can be a lot of fun and is great for embarrassing your friends. Sadly this can only be done on Next-Gen consoles. For other systems such as PS2 and PC it is very similar to FIFA 07, which disappointed many fans of the series who had not invested in a Next-Gen console.Next up is Pro Evo. This has been labeled the game for hardcore fans of the sport because of its fun factor. It is much more fast pac Read more:Evolution

Digital firms playing a new tune in music sales 2008-02-19 11:39:56 You might have 40,000 songs on your MP3 player, but in one sense they're all rather boring: They sound the same every time you play them. For all the changes in the music industry, today's artists usually enter a studio with a mind-set little changed from 50 years ago: They hope to produce a static song. A recording might end up in millions of MP3 players, but it always sounds the same. Now a start-up in Paris called Musinaut claims to have a fresh way of doing things with a format called MXP4. The format allows for a song to be recorded and played back in many different ways, and for extras such as notes, videos and lyrics to be included in the file, as well. Think of it as MP3 on steroids.

Some bet on 'projector glasses' for mobiles 2008-02-14 14:03:39 Mobintech, a Denmark-based group, believes it has found the solution to the mobile phone industry's problem of trying to offer television and video services on a tiny screen."The first is the size of the screen. If you're watching football you can't see the ball. If it's boxing, you don't know who is hitting who."The group's proposition is a chunky pair of futuristic-looking glasses that connect to the phone, which when worn by a viewer give the impression of watching a 30-inch (76-centimetre) television at a distance of two metres.Read the full article here.

Gran Turismo 5: Reviewed 2008-02-07 10:46:55 Another of the most hotly anticipated titles of the current console generation is Sony's "Gran Turismo
5." It's the first PlayStation 3 installment of the venerable auto racing franchise, and it looks as sweet as anything we've seen yet on that machine. But we still have only a tentative late 2008 release date. To tide fans over until then, Sony is releasing "Gran Turismo
5 Prologue" on April 17. It'll feature 60 vehicles and a small selection of the final game's tracks, and will allow up to 16 players to race against each other online. The catch: It'll set you back $40, which seems like a lot for an extended demo disc. Then again, if you're a "GT" aficionado you'd probably spend twice that for a taste of the high-def racer
