Blogging Cards
2008-03-02 16:49:00
I decided to make some new little blog cards to go with the new look of the site. These are nice to have on hand when someone is interested in your blog. I can't tell you how many times I've dug around in my purse only to find an old wrinkled reciept to write on. Tacky, I know. These cards were made in Adobe Illustrator. You could easily make a cute card in Microsoft Word as well. If you don't want to do it yourself, you might want to try MOO cards. Another option is Vista Print, they will print free business cards for you, the catch is there logo is on the back of the card.

Tuned In or Tuned Out
2008-02-20 11:34:00
Let me start by saying that I don't usually talk about my everyday life. Because frankly, I don't want to bore you to tears. But today as I was posting a comment, a super-ball bounced off the top of my head. I paused for a second then proceeded to type. I'm not quite sure what this says about my parenting skills or my blogging. Excuse me while I do some reflecting.

How To Make Stitch Holders
2008-02-17 16:55:00
My stitch holders mysteriously disappeared(hmm...) so I had to buy some new ones. After I purchased them it occurred to me that they would be easy to make. I used craft wire purchased at Daiso to make these. It cost $1.50 for the wire and yields about 20 stitch holders. If you don't have a Daiso near you, try the hardware store. Directions Below.Supplies: wire, needle nose pliers, wire cuttersclick on the directions to get a better view* stitch holders come in different shapes and sizes so you might want to check some out online if you've never used them before

Gift Tag Blues
2008-02-16 17:04:00
All the gift tags above were made out of recycled cards. I do this with all the cards I receive. Using a gift tag punch, I punch out the tags from the cards. If you can get in the habit of doing this with all your cards, you'll have a tag that matches just about anything. You can make about 4-7 tags from one card depending on its size.

Thriftin' Ain't Easy

Last weekend I went out searching for an ugly blazer for my husband's Fantasy Baseball League. You know, typical wife duties. Should have been easy, right? Nope. Instead I found a bunch of gray small check blazers. But all was not lost. In the process, I found this great retro wrapping paper! Would love to hear about your best thrift store finds. Please share.

Easy Paper Cut Silhouette Card
2008-02-02 16:22:00
Inspired from all the "paper cut outs" I've seen lately, I decided to make one into a Valentines card. I figured out an easy way to turn ones photo into a silhouette cut out. The possibilities with this technique are endless. Directions below.Cut a person out of a photo. Trace the person onto card stock with pencil lightly. *The heavier the card stock the better. With an x-acto knife cut out the shape of the person. Keep all the little bumps and lumps (don't try to smooth them out) , that's what makes the silhouette more realistic. After, erase the pencil mark. When you get to the feet, you'll have to decide where to stop cutting(refer to picture). Fold the image up. Done

How To Make a Mizuhiki Heart Knot

Make a Valentine Candy Maze
2008-01-20 22:05:00
Here's a fun Valentine to make and give. The candies are enclosed in the heart so the only way to get them out is to push them through the maze. Well okay, that's not completely true, you could rip the whole thing open, but where's the fun in that! Directions below.SuppliesLarge clear zip lock bagscolored paper (something with give like washi paper, card stock doesn't work well)Candy thread (color of your choice)scissorsDirections1. Using the colored paper, cut out a heart. I recommend nothing smaller that 5" by 5".2. Cut out a piece of the zip lock bag that will cover the heart and over lap some.3. Machine sew the paper and zip lock together around the edge of the heart leaving a space to put the candy in. Trim the zip lock so its the same shape as the paper heart after sewing.4.

What I've been Knitting
2008-01-15 14:42:00
I knit up this hood for a birthday present the other day. Does it look familiar? It's the hood worn by Lyra in "The Golden Compass". I got the pattern from Lion Brand's site here via Craftzine. I altered their pattern with smaller stitches. The Lion Brand pattern's gauge is 4 stitches = 4 in. So, you can imagine it knits up really quick. This pattern is super easy.

Sumo Wrestler Doorstop
2008-01-12 17:02:00
Think this is a doorstop? Nope, it's a stress ball or in this case a stress sumo. I like to play this game where I think up new uses for everyday items. That is how the stress ball doorstop was born. You can use just about any kind of stress ball(sponge kind) for a doorstop. The sumo wrestler came from the dollar section of Target.

Grow Your Own Easter Grass
2008-03-17 15:40:00
My Mother in Law planted this grass in the kids Easter baskets. What a nice alternative to the fake plastic grass, don't you think? All you need to do is line a basket with plastic wrap. Add some soil, add some grass seed (we used wheat grass), add water, and place in the sun. It takes a little less than a week to grow so there's still time if you want to make one for Easter. This also might make a nice dinner table centerpiece. If you don't have a basket, a nice bowl/dish would work as well.

How To Make a Basket Pincushion
2008-03-20 15:18:00
Looking over at my sad, tired pincushion, I new it was time for a change. My old one was the standard tomato and it had served me well. It had been with me through prick and pin. It stood by my side in my first sewing class. Farewell, tomato.Seriously, this pincushion was inspired by all the Easter baskets I've seen lately. There is no sewing involved and it only takes about ten minutes to make. I made the pins as well. They're more for looks than anything else. I'm not sure if you would want to use them for sewing honestly. Directions for both projects below.Pincushion Basket Suppliessmall basketscraps of fabric, depends on the size of your baskethot gluestuffing*If your basket has a more open weave, you will want to line the inside with the fabric you are using.
