A very different kind of system update 2007-03-28 20:59:00 The development team here at PayPerPost has been quiet for a little while, beavering away on defining a slower, higher quality development process, fixing bugs, making some confusing aspects of PayPerPost.com simpler, listening to and applying feedback we've received, and generally making things better than they currently are. So, at 23:59 Eastern Standard Time (GMT - 5 hours), we'll be taking PayPerPost.com offline for about 90 minutes. I'll do another blog post later today detailing exactly what we've done, but I can confidently assure everyone out there that you're really going to like it (well, our competitors won't, but hey that's business!). What I would like to do here though is just walk through some of the lessons we've learned and talk about how we've applied those lessons. Unlike some companies, we have no problem admitting when we've made mistakes. We've made quite a few in the journey to this point. In just 8 months, PayPerPost as a company, and PayPerPost.com a Read more:different

Who needs the most help? 2007-03-28 18:18:00 I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of bloggers who responded to my offer to review their blog. I wish I had enough time to review each and everyone of them, but if I did I wouldn't be able to get the other things done that are important to PPP longterm. That being said I need your assistance to get through the list. I need you to take a look at each of the blogs below and tell me which blog you think needs the most help:http://www.utterlygeek.comhttp://willifordblog.comhttp://www.u-g-h.comhttp://homebizblogger.comhttp://www.ailurophile.com/stuph/I will read through the comments and give my attention where it is most needed. Thanks for all of the interest guys, together we are making things better.

I love VC Dan! 2007-03-28 15:47:00 Dan Rua of Inflexion Partners agreed to do an interview about PayPerPost and the investment his firm made in our company. It's a great interview and I appreciate the time he took to answer some tough questions about PPP. Dan has been a great investor and board member to work with and has taken a very active role in helping to shape our organization. Thanks for the kind words Dan.Check out the interview here.I have got to give a shout out to my entire team of investors. Dan has been great, but I must also give props to Josh Stein from DFJ and Michael Barach from Village Ventures. If you are a startup seeking venture capital and enjoy working with investors that both push you and stand behind your company you can't go wrong with any of these firms. PayPerPost has had to navigate some pretty rough waters in our short existence and these guys have been there for me every step of the way.

New Affiliate Badges 2007-03-29 19:48:00 This release included a few things that Pete looked over, including the addition of a slew of new designs for our affiliate badges and Review My Post badges. To see them all simply click on the "affiliate tools" link in the blogger dashboard. Many of you said the old badge didn't match the colors on your site so we provided a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Read more:Affiliate

The new roll out 2007-03-29 17:02:00 So, we did our big roll out last night, and I'll get the bad news out of the way first. In this case though, the bad news is also good news, kinda. We had one bug at roll out which is related to the 'spinning icons' on the blogger dashboard. I'll explain why this was in a bit when I walk through the feature list, but suffice to say that issue is fixed. Our new process seems to have worked. The only other 'issue' of sorts is actually a misunderstanding due I think to a failing on part with regard to communication to you guys. There have been a number of people complaining that their page ranks etc are not updating. They aren't supposed to update real time. We update blog ranks of all kinds every 48 hours, based on login. So, if you login every day of the week, you'll see changes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and so on. We limit the updates that we do simply to limit the load we place on our data providing friends. We are assessing what the impact would be of reducing the update ti
Oppapalooza! 2007-03-29 07:00:00 I am pleased to announce a new promotion that will benefit Advertisers and Posties alike. The release that rolled out last night included one small but very important change to our pricing system as it relates to segmentation. Previously when an advertiser selected a level of segmentation (PR, Alexa, Technorati or Tacks) the corresponding minimum price would increase with no ability for the advertiser to reduce their offer below the minimum price as set by our system.During Oppapalooza that is no longer the case. We invite advertisers to set their own price based on whatever segmentation they choose. Rather than dictating the price for you we will simply provide you with a suggested price. The absolute minimum remains $5.00 per post, but you control the offer price beyond that. Please recognize that the suggested offer is there for a reason, if you deviate too much from the suggested offer your Opp may not fill and you may insult the Posties.Just as Advertisers rank the Posties the Pos
Looking for Some Wikians 2007-03-29 00:23:00 I am seeking a handful of people to contribute to a Wiki designed to educate and inform our users. I know many of your are prolific, experienced Wiki users and are eager to enhance our community. This is a great opportunity to really get involved. The Wiki is in its infancy and needs some love. The first piece of content in the system will be of interest to all of you:http://wiki.payperpost.com/index.php/CategoriesYes, we know that there are many areas that have no content. The goal is to make this a living extension of everything PPP. If you are interested comment here. While you're out there I think someone needs to give some love to the PPP page in wikipedia. There are two pages an neither of them does the Posties justice.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_per_posthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPerPost
Save for PostieCon 2007-03-30 19:37:00 Many of you have been requesting a "Save for PostieCon
" option when taking an Opp and I am proud to announce that we have incorporated that feedback into this release. To save for PostieCon simply select that option when you take an Opp. It functions in the same way as donate to charity previously did. Can't wait to see you all there.

Announcing 1K Tuesday!!! 2007-04-03 00:59:00 Ohhhh I know the Posties are going to like this. Starting tomorrow and lasting through the end of this month we will be running a new promotion called 1K Tuesday
. What does the 1K mean? $1000 of course! Every Tuesday between midnight tonight and 11:59PM tomorrow EST we will be releasing at least one $1000 Opportunity with no segmentation guaranteed. When will it be released? We're not telling of course, but it will be out there. All you have to do is grab the Opportunity and you might just knock Colleen off of the top earners throne.Happy April Posties! This month is going to be exciting. This 1K Tuesday is sponsored by Zookoda, a great platform for bloggers looking to use email marketing to drive traffic to their blog. You should check it out! We like this platform a lot!If you are an advertiser and would like to sponsor a future 1K Tuesday please contact Joe Vaughn at joe (at) payperpost (dotcom).
15 Miles of Pain 2007-04-02 19:52:00 This weekend I ran the longest I have run continuously in my entire life. 15.1 miles to be exact. I ran cross country in high school and have been training to run a marathon for about 3 months but this is the farthest I have gone to date. I never knew what 2 hours and 20 minutes of constant running could do to your body. Check out this confessional for all the details. Read more:Miles
Vegas Baby! 2007-04-02 15:34:00 Mike and I pulled an all nighter in Vegas
last night to celebrate the acquistion. It was incredible. I totally planted one on Mike after I won $5000 at the roulette table. I am having problems with the video, but here is a screen shot. Read more:Vegas Baby
The 100 Mile Challenge Ends 2007-04-02 13:14:00 This weekend the 100 mile running challenge between Eric and I came to an end. I am not sure what happened to Eric during this competition, he started off strong and then fizzled quickly. I know that he is still hitting the gym, but it seems that he either stopped running or stopped uploading his results. It was actually harder for me when he stopped because I didn't know if I was doing well or not.Either way Eric and I are going to be competing as a team at Muddy Buddy on May 12th in Orlando. If you haven't heard about this event you should really check it out. Read more:Challenge
PayPerPost to Acquire TechCrunch 2007-04-02 01:35:00 I am pleased to announce that late last night Mike Arrington and I came to an agreement whereby PayPerPost
will acquire TechCrunch
and all related "Crunch" properties. I am well aware of the irony of this situation given Mikes comments about PayPerPost in the past. This comes on the heels of TechCrunch's acquisition of FuckedCompany, which was already in progress and will be part of the deal. Through it all we have been able to come to an agreement whereby Mike will continue to run the Crunch sites but PayPerPost will be able to leverage the site for its advertisers. As a result of this merger, we will soon be launching a new "PayPerCrunch" feature, whereby Advertisers will be able, at our customarily low prices, to leverage the journalistic talents of Mr Arrington and his staff to fully promote our customers products and services.Mike and I are now BFFs, don't be surprised if you start seeing pictures of us partying together in Vegas. Robyn Pays it Forward 2007-04-03 22:49:00 I didn't realize this at the time that I read her post but it appears that Robyn
has created an opportunity in the Marketplace to "Pay it Forward
" with some love to the Posties and myself. You guys are awesome. A picture from Chris and Karen are below. Feelin' the love.If there are more of these point me to them and I will hook you up with some link love in another post.
This 1K Tuesday is Over! 2007-04-03 20:31:00 I want to thank all of the Posties who spent the night overloading our servers and causing Pete to pull his hair out. This was a good thing for us and exposed a number of things that we are going to work on to speed the site and increase performance. Hopefully the next 1K Tuesday
won't be quite so painful.Congrats Ashley!
The 1K Opp will be out within the next 20 minutes 2007-04-03 19:50:00 You guys are absolutely pounding our servers with requests and it is causing all sorts of problems. We didn't anticipate this level of activity... it is crazy! I have to release the Opp soon or the tech team is going to shoot me. Look for it very shortly. Read more:within

I love the Posties! 2007-04-03 14:43:00 I just realized that I forgot to post the CalacanisCast on our blog after it went live. You can view that here:I have talked about the disclosure issue time and again. This is a long interview that at times seems to go around in circles, but the best part is at the end. Unfortunately you can't fast forward on the PodTech.net player (they should fix that), but if you want to know what happened click here.I am happy to hook you up Robyn! You deserve it : ) Read more:Posties
Have You Become a Better Blogger? 2007-04-05 18:01:00 I am often asked if I think PayPerPost make the blogosphere better or worse and my answer is always better. I answer better based on the information I have been provided in the past, but I would like to conduct a more formal poll of our users. I have put together a small series of questions and would really appreciate your participation. I ask that only Posties take this poll. Read more:Become

U-G-Hey this is nice 2007-04-05 15:43:00 This is a site review of u-g-h.com as request by long time Postie Owen. Again, these are my personal thoughts from an advertisers point of view.Clean design, well laid out.Disclosure Policy right at the top of the page in a tab, very nice and very easy to find. There are a good amount of the posts that have comments and Owen seems to interact and respond to them.Owen makes good use of tagging and has social bookmarking built into each post.I was a little confused by what the "honey" category was supposed to be. Still, it caught my eye and I did click on it.I liked the concept of the photo album, but I was disappointed when I clicked on it and the entire look and feel changed so dramatically. I would have liked to have seen this integrated into your site better.Archives and search are great things to have (yes... yes I know we need one on our own blog! ; )I liked the picture of you in the sidebar, it let's me know who this blog is written by.I like the latest comments feature you are us
Town Hall Meeting Update 2007-04-05 00:20:00 Peeps, I am having some severe computer issues tonight and I am afraid that the town hall meeting will not be an enjoyable experience given the amount of interest we had at the last town hall meeting. I don't think it makes sense to reschedule to tomorrow because of the holiday weekend. I am going to reschedule until next Monday at 7PM EST. Sorry for any inconvenience, I am afraid to even attempt this right now given the repeated application quits I am experiencing on my laptop. Unfortunately, I don't have another computer handy. To make it up to you I am going to let you know about a little secret.... shhhhhh. Read more:Update

Two great bloggers to watch 2007-04-06 15:49:00 A couple of weeks ago you may recall one of my posts, about Veronique and I attending the BlogHer Business Summit in New York. During the two-day function we had an opportunity to meet, speak, and listen to some pretty fantastic bloggers
. There are a couple in particular that really impressed me and I wanted to share them with you.Firstly, there's Carmen Van Kerckhove, who authors the blog Racialicious. Racialicious (formerly known as Mixed Media Watch) is a blog about the intersection of race and pop culture. There are daily updates on the latest celebrity gaffes and no-holds-barred critiques of questionable media representations. The blog is typically fun and often humorous, even though the content can sometimes deal with something many folks don't particularly like to address.I mention Carmen's blog because--in my opinion--it's a great example of what a niche blog is. Carmen has really established a voice for her blog, simply because she sticks to the topic, and delivers re Read more:watch
Largest Blog Comment Chain World Record Attempt 2007-04-10 10:31:00 UPDATE: DUGG HEREBE A PART OF HISTORY!!!This is the first attempt to set a record for the worlds longest blog comment chain for the Guinness Book of WorldRecord
s. There is no prior record of anything like this that I was able to find. The first people I heard from didn't even know what a blog is so it could be challenging to get this accepted. The most comments I have ever seen on a single blog post is about 350, I am shooting for 2,000 "unique human generated comments of 25 words or more each generated within 1 week of the original post." for this first attempt. The author (that's me) cannot contribute more than 10 percent of total posts. Have you ever gone for a world record or thought about going for a world record? If so what was it and were you able to make it official?I am going to see if I can have every participant named if they will allow it. Please add your name to your post if you would like it on there. Seeing red? 2007-04-10 10:09:00 Well, its just gone 4am and Ted just released the first 100 dollar warm up opportunity, with no segmentation on it whatsoever. But, some of you are seeing red. The opp appeared unavailable to you. What's up with that?Well, that's a slight tweak to the opportunity list now. When an opportunity fills up with reservations it's included in the segmented list to show you that you can't take it. On reflection though we should have changed the colour and we'll do that in the next release to make things clearer. Read more:Seeing
Disclosure Bubble Ads and the Red X 2007-04-10 07:53:00 Some of you may have noticed that we changed the format of the Disclosure
badge bubble ad. You should also have noticed when you logged in today that you got an alert message telling you to update your code on your blog. You'll need to do so if you want to be in with a chance of getting the 1000 dollar opp Ted is posting at some point today. Now, when you change your code you are still likely to see a red X next to the blog in your blog list. Don't panic! When you view the opportunity list we check your blogs to see if you disclose, but only if we haven't done so in the last 48 hours. We cache the results to minimize server load for obvious reasons. We will make sure, just before Ted releases his special opportunity that we clear the cache so that all logged in people will have a check run on their blogs for the new code to make sure they qualify. So, the upshot is, if you are seeing the red X at the moment after making the switch to the new code and panicking a little, don't. The a Read more:Bubble
