NOTE TO CASH: TOLD YA SO! HAWKINS STINKS!
2008-04-24 02:52:00
Enough of La Troy Hawkins. He stinks. As I predicted back in January, he is a failure in the bullpen.Wednesday night he faced 3 White Sox and could only get 1 out, allowing the Pale Hose to inch their way back into the game.He has now given up 12 earned runs in 9 innings.Hawkins had help, for the 2nd night in a row Billy Traber could not get out the 1 batter he was brought in to face.Hawkins was a DUMB signing.Cashman should cut this off now. With options in the minors, Traber should be sent packing to Scranton and Hawkins should simply be sent packing.

NYDN CROSSES THE LINE. A NEW LOW.
2008-04-24 19:14:00
The New York Daily News crossed the privacy line when it published a picture of an ambushed Cynthia Rodriquez exiting the hospital upon her release after giving birth to a baby girl. This is absolutely disrespectful to the Rodriguez family and violates their right to privacy. The picture (which I will not post) shows Cynthia in a wheel chair using her body to cover up her newborn, shielding her from a scum photographer. Also in the picture is a woman trying to get between the scum and Cynthia, a hospital employee and another woman along side Cynthia. This is the caption:Alex Rodriguez's wife Cynthia, trying to shield the baby girl she gave birth to on Monday night, leaves the hospital Wednesday in South Miami.SHIELD!Where is hospital security? Not only does this show what scum the photographe

OH NUTS! GIRARDI BANS SWEETS FROM CLUBHOUSE!
2008-04-24 13:07:00
Joe Girardi has banned candy and ice cream from the clubhouse in an effort to create a more healthy diet. The Yankees have asked opposing teams to remove the offending items from the visitors' clubhouse before the team arrives. In Tampa Bay, the candy was replaced with nuts, dried fruit and granola.Source: LA TimesNice. I'm glad the manager is looking out for the health of his players. My question is, has tobacco products been banned too?How about alcohol?Sounds more like a nursery school than a group of grown men.

POSADA SENT TO BIRMINGHAM
2008-04-27 14:15:00
Jorge Posada is on his way to Birmingham, Alabama to visit renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews to have is right shoulder examined. The NY Times reports today that Dr. Andrews has already seen Posada's MRI results.Posada has been experiencing a "dead arm/shoulder" sensation since April 8th.If Posada ends up on the DL for an extended period the Yanks are in a bind for a back-up catcher.Chad Moeller was DFA on Friday, which now makes no sense. Why would they DFA Moeller knowing that Posada was not 100%?I would imagine this will spark more Mike Piazza talk.If Moeller is not picked up by another team they could bring him back. The Yanks could also bring up Chris Stewart from Scranton or P.J. Pilittere from Trenton to fill the gap until a long term solution is found.

FANTASY EILAND - PART 2
2008-04-27 12:11:00
I took a few hits about my previous post on Dave Eiland. I believe that Eiland is leading Hughes and Kennedy in the wrong direction. They are pitching timidly trying to nibble at corners instead of attacking the zone and going after hitters.A few comments and emails I received tried to remind me of who developed "The Big 3" in the minors, Dave Eiland.Listed below is Eiland's assignments and which of the 3 he had at that stop:2003 Pitching coach GCL Yankees: None2004 Pitching coach Staten Island Yankees: None2005-2006 Pitching coach Trenton Thunder: '06 Hughes, 21 games, 116 IP.2007 Pitching coach Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees: Kennedy, 6 games, 34 IP. Hughes, 5 games, 28 IP. Chamberlain, 3 games 8 IP.Listed below are "The Big 3" and their minor league trail:Kennedy: 2006 Staten Island,

FANTASY EILAND
2008-04-26 21:56:00
If young players are influenced by their coaches, this might explain the troubles of Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy this season.Last season these guys looked almost invincible. They aggressively attacked strike zone, throwing strikes.Their pitching coach last year was Ron Guidry. Guidry was a successful pitcher with a hard slider. One of the keys to his success was that he aggressively attacked strike zone, throwing strikes. This year Hughes and Kennedy look more reserved, more timid. Nibbling for corners, rarely going inside and walking too many.Their pitching coach this season is Dave Eiland. Eiland was a failure as a major league pitcher. Eiland spent his carreer nibbling for corners, rarely going inside and walking too many. All that timid pitching lead Eiland to a 12-27 record, with a 5.7

THE GIANT-BINO! GIAMBI HEADED WEST?
2008-04-30 13:40:00
There is a buzz going around the Bay area that the Yankees and Giants are discussing a deal that would send Jason Giambi to the Giants in return for Barry Zito. There also would be a swap of some minor leaguers included in the deal. The sticking points are how much of Zito's $126 contract the Giants will pay and if Zito is willing to restructure the payments of the rest. Zito's agent is Scott Boras.Zito is under contract five more seasons at an annual average cost of $18.9 million.Giambi, who is from the bay area, will get $20 million from the Yankees this season and is a free agent at the end of the year.Zito is 0-4 with a 9.68 ERA and has been removed from the rotation by manager Bruce Bochy."I'm certainly not happy with it, by any means," Zito said. "But this is the bed that I've made.

JOE AND CASH NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER
2008-04-30 08:27:00
In order for the Yankees to turn this around and start winning, Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman need to think a little deeper about what they are doing. There have some very poor and questionable decisions this week.1. Joe Girardi.A) Why do you send a 21 year-old, inexperienced and struggling pitcher out there with a minor league scrub catcher? Coming off of a travel night or not, Molina needs to catch that game.B) Why do you send a 21 year-old, inexperienced and struggling pitcher out there with a minor league scrub catcher AND your WORST defensive outfield combination possible? Melky would not have flubbed the ball that Damon couldn't handle in center, while Damon would have not flubbed the ball Matsui couldn't handle in left. Damon in left and Melky in center and this is a different game.

HUGHES HAS BROKEN RIB
2008-05-01 16:34:00
Joe Girardi has just revealed on the Mike and the Mad Dog Show that Phil Hughes has a stress fracture of the 9th rib. This was found during an MRI on the strained oblique.Hughes will not pick up a ball for 4 weeks then begin a rehab. He might not be available until around the All-Star break.

A-ROD TO HAVE ANOTHER M.R.I.
2008-05-07 21:49:00
Joe Girardi announced during his post game interview that A-Rod will have another M.R.I. before beginning his rehab in Tampa.Girardi said nothing has happened since the injury and the M.R.I. is precautionary.

KENNEDY RETURNS
2008-05-12 15:30:00
WFAN is reporting that Ian Kennedy will start Friday vs the Mets in place of K-O'd Igawa.Kennedy will pitch 1 inning for Scranton tonight. No roster move has been announced, but I'm hoping that the move will be the final one for Igawa.Darrell Rasner will pitch Thursday.7:20 PM UPDATE: Kennedy will go Thursday vs the Rays, Rasner will get the call Friday vs the Mets.

KEI-OH'D
2008-05-15 14:50:00
The Yankees put us out of our misery and sent Kei Igawa back to Scranton.I was hoping they would have sent him to Trenton (or lower) to try to get him to ask for a buy out of his contract so he can become a free agent.I would love to know who in the Yankees system thought that this guy could pitch in the Major Leagues. It's easy to blame Cashman, but someone scouted him and made the recommendation

G-MAN GETS TOSSED BILLY/LOU STYLE
2008-05-23 08:51:00
Congratulations to Joe Girardi on his first ejection as Yankees manager. He put on a good show. He had a little Billy with a touch of Lou.The only thing I saw wrong with what Joe did was that he didn't come out with his hat on sideways.Ken Singleton nailed it though. It's not seen on this video clip but Singleton pointed out that the ump didn't call it until the catcher said something. Watch it ag

A PLAN FOR IGAWA
2008-05-27 09:36:00
Maybe Kei has some value after all. This is an idea that the Yankees should explore.By CHRISTOPHER SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer May 23, 7:51 pm EDT McALLEN, Texas (AP)—During three years in the low minors, John Odom never really made a name for himself. That sure changed this week—he’s the guy who was traded for a bunch of bats. For now, Odom is headed to the Laredo Broncos of the Un

"MOVE" or "MOVES" ?
2008-05-28 07:44:00
During his post game interview Joe Girardi said that he was going to talk to Brian Cashman about "moves". This was during the announcement that Ian Kennedy was DL bound.Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but Kennedy to the DL and bringing up a replacement is a "move", more than that are "moves", plural. So, will there be more that a a simple pitcher swap? With the team on the road, its a good tim

SIN SIDNEY

Yankees claim Sidney Ponson off waivers from Texas. Yet another questionable pitching pickup by Brian Cashman that's doomed to fail.

WASH-OUT!
2008-07-23 08:23:00
Yesterday on WFAN, Mets press shill John Heyman told Mike Francessa that the Yankees were interested in Seattle pitcher Jarrod Washburn.Today on SI.com Heymaker is reporting the deal would be Washburn and Jose Vidro for Kei Igawa. It seems that the Mets' Heyboy has been hanging out with Peter Gammons too much.Washboard is on his way to his 5th double digit losing season. He was 18-6 in 2002 and ha

MID-TERM REPORT

After the Yankees 9-4 victory over Toronto Saturday, the team was informed of the passing of Bobby Murcer. In their quest to bring Yankee fans player reaction to the news, Kim Jones and the camera crew zoomed in on Joe Girardi. As Girardi was expressing his sorrow over the loss of a good friend he started to get emotional and got more emotional as the interview went on.The more Girardi cried, the c

BRITTON AGAIN?
2008-08-06 15:16:00
Will someone please tell me what the Yankees are thinking?News of the day is that Joba Chamberlain was placed on the DL.To replace him the Yankees recalled Chris Britton, again. How many times does this tomato can have to get knocked around before the Yankees realize that this guy SUCKS?Is anyone in Yankeeland watching?Last time he was here I compared him to Sid Fernandez, fat and out of shape, eat
