Accordian Book in a Box 2007-04-23 22:15:00 This is the undecorated version of my first attempt at a Accordian Book in a Box. The idea came from www.craftweekly.com and I really enjoyed doing it although it did prove tricky when it came to putting the folded pieces together. I persevered and managed it eventually, but I think it's marvellous that the whole thing can be done without any glue at all! I do, however, need to decorate this now and will post again when this is done. The box was made using K & Co. 6x6 inch scrapbook papers by Brenda Walton (Brianna). The concertina inserts were made with Moss green pearlescent card and Maroon plain card and I added liners for both the top and bottom of the box in the pearlescent card to cover the interlocking papers inside the box to provide neatness and stability. These were glued in place with PVA adhesive. My next box will be stamped and decorated but I think it's important to understand which surfaces of the papers will be exposed for viewing and which will not. The box I have pict
Spin 'n' Splash Card 2007-04-28 18:51:00 Here is my first card made using a spin 'n' splash background.I Used a 4x4 inch background rounded the corners and applied an image from Crafty Individuals with tacky glue and allowed this to dry. Then I matted this onto plain mauve & then pearlescent pink cardstock using DS tape. This was then applied to a 5x5 inch card made from pearlescent purple card and the word 'Dream' applied with black and gold epoxy stickers. Read more:Splash
Acetate ATC's 2007-04-28 17:51:00 As part of a recent UK Stampers swap I made these three acetate covered ATC's. Each had a stamped background with embellishments applied before covering with a piece of acetate which had been coloured with various Ranger Alcohol Inks. The acetate was held in place with eyelets in each case.
Spin 'n' Splash Backgrounds 2007-04-27 22:28:00 Everyone but everyone, is trying this technique at the moment. So I thought why shouldn't I?In fact, I remember when it was the 'in' thing to do at stalls at the seaside ( I am very old :D). Perhaps not so refined as modern day alcohol inks and craft techniques which I have used here. All these are done on 4inch x 4 inch cards of various materials. This is really the first time I have experimented with my spinner from WH Smith at £4.49 !!!!! I am quite pleased but do need to do a lot more stuff before I have perfected my technique. Read more:Splash

Canvas Tag 2007-04-26 08:47:00 This tag was inspired by a challenge on Talkcrafts Forum and was kindly hosted by Glynis and my thanks go to her for hosting. The tag is cut from canvas and has been decorated as follows: I tissue stamped two images, the Angel by Crafty Individuals and a word background with blue Stazon ink. These were then cutout. Meanwhile the tag was first sponged with chalk inks to obtain the desired effect. A coat of matt mod podge was applied thinly and quickly and then the tissue images applied over this with more mod podge, ensuring no air bubbles between the canvas and the tissue. The whole thing was allowed to dry thoroughly. The diamonds were stamped with black Stazon and a text stamp was overstamped with Brilliance pearlescent sky blue ink which I heat set. I then used the sewing machine to sew corresponding sides with a close zig-zag stitch in dark blue thread. Finally applying a beige eyelet to the hole in the tag and embellishing with assorted purple fibres. Read more:Canvas
Stunted Wings Card 2007-04-25 22:32:00 This card was a while in the making. Some time ago I bought a couple of wing stamps and whilst trying them out (the stamps not the wings !!) Used some brush markers with water based ink and brushed on colour then stamped on light cream card and when dry spritzed with water and dried off with a heat gun then cut them out. This gave a watercolour effect on the background. I came back to the wings recently and applied glossy accents and then Gutermann seed beads as an embellishment, finally edging the wings with gold Krylon pen. They sat there for ages. Then I bought some more background stamps (rulers) and produced a mat which I edged with Versamark and dipped in gold detail EP and heat embossed it. Then I used a winged man/woman stamp from Paper Artsy and stamped with Adirondack espresso ink on cream card and varnished with matt modpodge. When dry I again cut out the image. I then used a cream card and applied Ranger distress ink in aged mahogony direct to the edges of the card. I then Read more:Wings
Two ATC's 2007-04-25 20:22:00 Here are yet another two ATC's, done for a UK Stampers Swap, themes are Boys & Red.
Nebula Card 2007-05-02 08:54:00 I decided to call this card 'Nebula
', simply because it reminds me of the photos you see of those astronomical phenomena. Different colourway this time too !This is the third spin 'n' splash card I have completed. This time I have used Ranger alcohol inks on a silver mirri card base and then cut this into four pieces. This was then mounted onto a hand made textured background (featured elsewhere on the blog), with metallic brads and applied to two mats one in cream card and one in mauve. The background card is cream pearlescent card cut and scored to fold.
Dare To Dream Card 2007-04-30 21:04:00 Another of my Spin & Splash creations. This time the background was done on silver Mirri Board and incorporated some metallic Inks also. The finish on the silver Mirri is quite reflective and looks completely different to the gloss cards.I matted the 4x4 inch background on maroon cardstock and trimmed to size. I then threaded a short length of 5mm satin ribbon through a cork 'buckle' and applied this to the base of the matt by wrapping the ends of the ribbon behind the background and securing with double sided tape. This was positioned so that a piece of vellum printed with the words 'Dare To Dream
' could be threaded beneath the ribbon and secured vertically on the reverse of the front of the card with DS tape. The card itself was made from a piece of pearlescent pink cardstock which was trimmed to size and scored.
Two More ATC's 2007-05-04 18:57:00 These two ATC's have been made for a UKS swap for May.Wings of FortuneTarget PracticeThe first was stamped using a floral background stamp in black Stazon and this was hand coloured with USartQuest Stargazers paints. This was then stamped and heat embossed with a flower stamp and white embossing powder. A strip of card made using metallic inks was then applied to the base of the card and a butterfly was stamped with black Stazon on gloss card and selectively coloured with Jacquard gold acrylic paint. A copper foiled 'flutter' word was then applied as shown with DS tape. The ATC was edged with gold Krylon pen.The second was made from a card coloured with dye inks of various colours and a make-up sponge in a diamond shape. This was then applied to the base ATC and stamped with words, target and a run of numbers stamps with black Stazon. A copper brad was applied in the centre of the target and the ATC was edged with dark blue dye ink to complete.
Accordian Book in a Box - Decoration 2007-05-06 09:55:00 Box, outsideAs promised I have now completed decorating the accordian book in a box project. For the lid I punched out two holes and threaded a small piece of 7mm fuschia satin ribbon through the holes and tied it in a bow to act as a lid handle. I embellished the top panels with square red and green flat backed jewels adhered with glossy accents. For the book I printed out a number of angelic pics onto 2ins square vellum pieces using an ink-jet printer. These were trimmed and the concertina panels were decorated with these. My book had 8 panels in all. To compliment the lid each panel was adorned with two square flat backed jewels to compliment the colourway. I think less is more on this one and because of the fussy papers I purposely kept it simple.Box opened showing concertinaPanel DetailPanel Detail Read more:Decoration
Pendant 2007-05-10 23:52:00 This is the result of a Talkcrafts Forum swap to produce a piece of jewellery. Once again I have used a piece of my trusty Faux Dichroic Glass to which I have applied a silver bellcap and suspended this on a silver chain. I actually made a little bag from ivory brocade which I machine sewed and fastened with a piece of gold braid. Hope you like it Karen !I enjoyed making this very much. Read more:Pendant

Victorian Treasure Boxes 2007-12-23 01:35:00 Not posted for a while, and am just recovering from a rotten cold so feeling a little more festive now.I have had a tall Treasure
Box stamp (Windsong), for ages now and have never used it to date. Typically me ! This is just one of my stash items that I have accumulated over time but never got round to giving an airing.I decided to have a go and I did two 4 sided boxes with a different medallion topper on each. Both boxes were heat embossed with gold EP after stamping with Versamark. The pink one was coloured simply with Sakura Gelly Roll Glaze pens, whilst the blue one was coloured with fine glitters in green and blue. Ribbons were attached to the medallions to act as a closure for the boxes. Read more:Victorian

Christmas Inchies 2007-11-25 10:44:00 Here is a pic of my offering for a swap I hosted on UK Stampers Forum this month. We had eleven entries, all very different with some stunning colourways and festive themes across the range.Mine were done on a base of linen effect cream card which I liberally spread with Starburst Stains in Festive reds, greens, yellows and golds. I dried the background with a heat gun and then randomly stamped a holly rubber stamp image with Versamark and heat embossed it with copper EP, I also applied pink stickles to the holly berries. Then I followed this with a star stamp which I heat embossed with silver EP. I used a guillotine to chop the squares down to 1 inch and backed half of the Inchies
with red and half with green hand made paper. I printed festive words in red and green using the computer and Read more:Christmas
'Believe In...' Card 2007-11-13 11:28:00 Here is a card I made using a lovely embossed oyster pearlescent card base. The two daisies (Judikins Carols Cube) were stamped out using Purple Whispers dye ink pad on white card. They were then coloured with Starburst Stains Cocklebells Coral and dried with a heat gun before cutting out and shaping with a pair of scissors. Stickles Diamond glitter glue was applied to the flower centres and allowed to dry. The central square frame was stamped from the same Judikins Cube using purple ink on white card and then overstamped with the words and heat embossed with Chinese Lacquer EP from Joanna Sheen. This was coloured with Starburst Stains Glory of the Seas Gold before drying with a heat gun and was cut out and matted onto a piece of dark blue cardstock with a glue stick. The background is a
Tag Canvas 2007-11-03 10:44:00 Yet another recently completed 7 inch x 5 inch canvas. This time in very muted and dream like colours. I have used a lot of gesso in making this to ensure all colours were very pastel and not 'in your face'. The decorated tags are done to represent (from left to right), the greens of garden and country, the blues of sea and shore and finally the pinks of romance. The background has been done to emulate light old marbley stone and the three tags are detailed in each of the following pics:Garden & CountrySea & Shore Romance Read more:Canvas
Klimt Multi-Media Canvas 2007-10-28 06:24:00 This is the second canvas I have completed it's 20cm x 20cm and angled at the sides to provide an area of 15cm x 15cm on the front surface. I have used various media including Lumiere paints & Sherrils Sorbets, micro beads, chenille pipecleaners, seed beads, fabric covered beads, a tassel, jewels and pearls to highlight certain areas. Calculating Wisdom Card 2007-10-27 06:04:00 This is a card with a 'vintage' feel that I have just completed using two stamps. The main image is by Crafty Individuals CI-072 and the matted image is the 'Stone' finish from the Textures Cube by Judikins. The main image was stamped with onyx black Versafine onto a watercolour paper mat pre-coloured with dye inks in sepia and ochre. Once dry this was then lightly sprayed with Moonglow burnished bronze Glitz Spritz to add shimmer. The mat was edged with dark brown dye ink. The second mat used the same background but was overstamped with sepia Versafine and the stone texture stamp again edged with dark brown dye ink. The final mat is a printed paper from Dovecraft. The base card is in cream hammered finish. Before assembling the mats with DS tape two bronze square brads were applied to the Read more:Wisdom
Circle Book 2007-10-24 10:30:00 Inspired by Carrie on her Scrapwest Blog (where you can find instructions and a downloadable template). I decided to make one of the books on a more general theme of Frienship and Nature. Used printed papers, embellishments & Stamping to accomplish the piece. The covers are made of mountboard and I have used my beloved Starburst Stains as a base and then overstamped with Chalk Ink and a flourish stamp and finished with fine glitter glue, white gellyroll pen and gold dimensional paint. Here it is:Showing CoverFirst QuarterSecond QuarterThird QuarterFourth QuarterTOP Down View Read more:Circle
'Enchanted' Card 2007-10-22 08:39:00 Here is a little creation I have called 'enchanted'. The base cardstock is plain navy card edged with a stone texture cube stamp (Judikins) and Versamark watermark ink. The strip down the centre is a piece of maroon card coated several times with Starburst Stains in Amaryllis Burgundy and Wisteria Purple Blue and dried with a heat gun between coats to build up a good iridescence. This has then been overstamped with the same Judikins stone stamp and Versamark to which I have heat embossed fine detail gold EP. The next layer is a piece of Tyvek which again has been carefully heated after applying various metallic mica sprays to its surface to produce an almost vellum-like material. The final layer is a piece of square card which has had various Starburst stains added in yellows and purple Read more:Enchanted
Autumn Colours Collage 2007-10-13 14:41:00 Just by way of breaking the silence I have done this little collage in celebration of Autumn
this year. The colours of the leaves on our trees have been breathtaking and astounding.......more so than usual !! I have had a very busy period at college lately and have found it really difficult to put time aside for crafting, much to my annoyance. However, now I have made the break I expect I will be doing a lot more posting from now on. Read more:Colours

Gatefold Card 2007-09-16 09:27:00 Here is a gatefold card I made recently. The background card was made from a piece of gold metallic effect card folded into the required format. The decorated panel of mountboard was made using oil pastels which were applied in yellow, orange and light brown using my finger to blend. This was then overstamped with a Celtic Knot Stamp from Tanda Stamps in black Stazon. Gold Lumiere paint was stencilled through sequin waste around the edge of the card in a random fashion and allowed to dry. I then used Versamark ink and a random dot stamp to stamp over the gold painted areas finally applying pearl brown EP and heat embossing with a heat gun. The panel was edged with gold pen . I applied two strips of brown 1/4inch satin ribbon with double sided tape vertically to the centre of each side of th
Multi-media Canvas 2007-09-15 08:18:00 I have been experimenting with various multi-media
materials over the past few weeks and this is the first of my canvasses. It's only small, 7 inches x 5 inches but contains a number of hand made embellishments. The paints used for the background are all Stewart Gill Colourise in various colours and applied freehand by brush. The beads are all handmade as are the wrapped chenille pipecleaners. Other iridescent and interference paints are used to highlight areas and some stamping has been accomplished with Jacquard Lumiere metallic paints also. Read more:Canvas

Thanks Card 2007-08-20 05:13:00 Here is a card I made today to say thanks to one of my friends. The background is done on a 3 inch square of white mountboard and this has been coloured with oil pastels in yellow, light & dark green in a random manner. I have used my finger to blend the pastels to the desired consistency and I like to apply them quite thickly. I then used some sequin waste base as a mask and applied Lumiere halo blue gold paint with a stippling brush around the outside edge of the board, holding the mask in place with low tack masking tape whilst stippling. Once dry, I have then centrally applied a Crafty Individuals rubber stamp of a thistle from Plate C1-134 using olive green Stazon and scraped through the oil pastels to expose the white mountboard to accent the thistle and border, using a piercing tool Read more:Thanks
Spin 'n' Splash Techniques Class (Part 1) 2007-08-12 03:08:00 We all love Spin 'n' Splash
backgrounds ! So here is my attempt at a class to help those just starting with the technique. It is, indeed, nothing new and Spin Art has been around for a very long time. Some of us old enough to remember have practiced our art on machines situated in stores and at fairgrounds where we have dribbled various coloured paints from a plastic squeezy bottle onto a card attached to a revolving turntable and produced one-of-a-kind multi-coloured creations which were then placed in a mask or frame for display.EQUIPMENT We will need some supplies and more importantly a machine to enable the spinning to take place. There are both mechanical and electrical variations available and there are even downloadable plans available online to make your own enclosure. But assuming
Les Fleurs ATC Set of 4 2007-08-11 01:52:00 On a floral theme here are 4 ATC's I did using Chalk Inks over a clear heat embossed resist background. The stamps were first stamped in Versamark using stamps from Tanda Stamps flourishes plate 1 and these were heat embossed with clear EP. The background was then applied direct-to-paper and the excess ink wiped away from the embossed areas to reveal the base card colour. The colours used were yellows, greens and browns. Extra flowers were stamped on card and cut out to be applied to the ATC's on foam pads after embellishing with brads and these were highlighted in some cases by a white gel pen. One of the ATC's has an acetate cover stamped with black Stazon and applied with four brads in the corners.
