BMW Art Cars
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Ok maybe this is old news to most, but for those in SG, here's some photos from Autoblog.com showcasing the 4 cars (Andy Warhol, Ken Done, Frank Stella and Roy Lichtenstein) exhibited in SG until this Sunday 11 Jan 2007 before heading to the Philippines. You can also view 4 other cars that will not be exhibited at SG (touring East Asia - Japan, China, Taiwan) on the same page.www.bmwworld.com has photos of 7 other cars that are not in the abovementioned page at AutoBlog.com.    Images taken from AsiaOne Motoring aticle here.Clockwise from top left: Andy Warhol, Ken Done, Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella.

Virtual Lego Designers
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I recently rediscovered the joy of playing with Lego bricks after playing Lego Star Wars : The Video Game non-stop for the past few weeks. Since I completed the game, I'm been trying to find a fix for my Lego addiction on the Net and found these three virtual brick apps.BlockCAD 3.18 by Anders Isaksson. This was my first introduction to the world of virtual bricks a few years ago. Free to download (Windows) (~1 MB). The selection of bricks is not strictly Lego-based. Lego Digital Designer 1.6.680 - The official designer from the makers of Lego themselves. Free to download (Windows, Mac)(~16 MB). An assortment of bricks is included in the download but additional bricks have to be purchased online. Slow startup time but very easy to use with a decent set of features . LDraw.org Tools - A set of Lego modelling tools contributed by the online community. Interface is similiar to 3D modellling apps. Steeper learning curve than Lego Digital Designer but is more powerful and also has more bri

MechCommander 2 Encyclopedia
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Was trawling through the Microsoft Download Center under the Games & Xbox section when I chanced upon this old promotional download released in July 2001 - MechCommander 2 Encyclopedia . Download here. (57.6 MB)Pretty cool stuff if you're a Mecha or a fan of the BattleTech universe like me. Essentially a model viewer for the 29 Mechs as well as vehicles and weapons in the game. Contains a brief introduction for each Mech plus its in-game statistics. Some of the Mechs that I recognize easily from the tiny 3D models in the encyclopedia include the Atlas, Catapult, Mad Cat, Raven and Thor, probably because of their distinctive silhouettes. Some other oldies but goodies in the Microsoft Download Center:Xbox 360 HD Videos - High definition videos for some Xbox 360 games like Gears of War, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 etc. Quality is excellent but most of them are just gameplay footage, no fancy CG cinematics there. Prima Guides for XBox - Excerpts from Prima guides for Xbox 360 games like F.E.A.R,

High-resolution 3D renders from Upcoming Combat Mission : Shock Force
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The Combat Mission : Shock Force website was recently opened to the public a few days ago. On the website, you can find high-res 3D renders of 4 armored vehicles that will be in the game - Strkyer ICV, M1A1 Abrams, BMP-1 and the T-72 M-1. Each of the renders is pretty realistic and well-detailed especially Strkyer ICV (tht topmost image).© Battlefrontread more | digg story

Warhammer 40,000 Vehicles in Lego
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Found this older post at www.terminally-incoherent.com with a photo of a Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Hellfire Dreadnought (Blood Angels?) created with real Lego.© JeracCurious to who might have created this masterpiece, I searched the web and found Jerac's page on MOCPAges here.On his page, he also showcases his other creations comprising a Dreadnought and Predator for Chaos Space Marines, Vyper Jetbike and Wraithlord for the Eldar and a Land Speeder and several variations of the Dreadnought for the Space Marines and a Killa Kan for the Orks. My favourite has to be the Chaos Predator .    © JeracIf you feel like creating one with virtual Lego, you might want to take a look at the virtual lego designers here.

BrickArms - Lego for the Gun Nut
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Found BrickArms from the The Brother Brick at www.brothers-brick.com. Read the original BrickArms post here.BrickArms produces weapon Lego parts and custom minifigs. Some of my favourite weapons below (Clockwise from top left - M47 Tactical Shotgun, AK47, M23 Socom Pistol and MP5)    © BrickArmsLove the look of the weapons, realistic (especially the MP5) yet retains that slightly silly Lego look.

Searching for Japanese Game Wallpapers
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Official Japanese game wallpapers released by the developers or publishers can be notoriously hard to find on the net.The typical official Japanese game website usually doesn't provide wallpapers for its fans or links them in some strange place where only Japanese readers can find. Some have a minimal English site without links to the additional media or content found in the Japanese site. Here's some stuff I use when searching for Japanese game wallpapers.Look for the words "壁紙" which literally means "wall paper" in Japanese and Chinese.Do a Google Image Search and enter the domain name of the website (omit the "http://" and the pagename). You'll be surprised what you can find with Image Search at times. Plus it's a lot quicker than randomly clicking on every button in sight.Look for "サイトマップ" which means sitemap. Hopefully the sitemap is an updated one ;)To find the official site, you can search for it Wikipedia (see the external links section at the bottom) or just

Smacker Video Player
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Remember those cutscenes in the .smk (Smacker Video) format popular in older games several years back (circa 1997 - think MechWarrior 2, Warcraft II, Diablo) RAD Game Tools which developed the Smacker Video codec and its successor, Bink Video, has made the RAD Video Tools ready for download (1.2 MB) at www.radgametools.com so that you can now play Smacker Videos (.smk) as Bink Video (.bik) files from your older games.

800mm Dora Railgun
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The 800mm Dora railgun (no, not the Quake 3 railgun) developed by the Germans in World War 2 was truly a feat of military weapon design and engineering. The image below (from Palpatine's site) clearly shows the enormous scale of this massive weapon. The soldiers look like ants next to this monster. For specifications and actual photos, see Palpatine's site .You really need to view the photos to appreciate the size of the Dora - Even the shell fired by this gun is at least 1.5 - 2 times taller than the average human.

MrBean (Not that Mr Bean) Lookalike
1970-01-01 00:59:59
If you live in SG, you should have seen this mascot (left picture) of Mr Bean (the soya bean beverage retailer)  The one on the right looks similiar right? From the body shape, smiling face and little stumpy legs, they look like identical twins (Except one was designed in SG and the other in UK by Jonathan Burch for his work - see his original post here.)By the way the one by Jonathan is a 3D render (Looks like real plastic to me. Pretty cool, huh?)

Shinobido Imashime Opening Movie
2007-03-05 07:00:00
© Spike/AcquireThe opening movie for the PS2 game Shinobido Imashime must be one of the most stylish CG videos for the stealthy ninja videogame genre I have seen in a long time. Accompanied by a lush Japanese instrumental soundtrack, this trailer really displays the violent skills of the ninja as the ninja Gou infiltrates a fortress by scaling the walls and dispatches the sentries inside with clinical precision. One of my favourite scenes in the video is a fight between a acrobatic female ninja armed with a kusari (chain weapon with a weight at the end) and two guards on the roof on a mooblit night. She switches between using the chain to entangle her opponent's weapons and the mace at the other end to strike the opponent. You can visit the official Japanese site or English site here. The wallpapers and videos can be accessed from the Japanese site from the first and second buttons on the bottom right corner of the Flash site. As the video is embedded into the web page, a direct l

CheyTac M-200 in Shooter
2007-03-06 06:00:00
Finally found the name of the olive drab coloured rifle used in the trailer for Shooter starring Mark Wahlberg, from a comment made by Frank at www.themovieblog.com. © CheyTac LLCIt's a .408 CheyTac M-200 Intervention designed for long-range anti-personnel duties and is accurate to beyond 2km. The specification PDF on the current M-200 page points to a PDF for the M-200C variant which is slightly more compact and lighter (and frankly looks much better too). The correct link for the M-200 should be here (direct link) if anyone's interested. The other black-coloured sniper rifle shown in trailer could be a CheyTac LER 308 or a Remington 700 variant like the US Army M24 or USMC M40.

Rackham AT-43 Wallpapers
2007-03-06 05:22:00
Three wallpapers released for the recently released Rackham miniatures game, AT-43.Trauma was the starting point of a new age after the climate and orbit patterns of the planet Ava were drastically changed due to battles between the invading machine-like Therians and human forces on the planet who eventually prevailed and drove the Therians off. In AT-43 (43 Years After Trauma), the human forces start their counterattack and take up the offensive against the Therians.Actually the primary draw of this game for me was the calibre of some of the artists for the game - Adrian Smith (previous post), Karl Kopinski (previous post), Kev Walker, Pablo Parente, etc.Two of the four promotional wallpapers for the game.  © Rackham. The first one (also the box art for Operation Damocles boxset) seems to be by Karl Kopinski (The faces on the U.N.A White Stars have the distinctive style of Mr Kopinski). The second one looks like it's done by Adrian Smith. Not too sure about this one tho

Changed the max posts displayed per category
2007-03-07 05:12:00
Finally figured out how to change the maximum posts shown when clicking on a particular category in the View Posts by Categories widget. My apologies to anyone who has attempted to view posts by category and given up due to the large number of images trying to load at the same time. For any Blogger user who wants to change it, you have to go to the Template Tab > Edit Html Page. Ensure that Expand Widget Templates is checked and search for 'data:label.url'.Change 'data:label.url' to 'data:label.url + "?max-results=10"'. Substitute 10 for the number of posts to be shown. Ensure the quotation marks are in the correct positions! (I messed up for quite a while due to my understanding of quotation marks in other programming languages.) Finally, save the template and you're done!Always remember to BACKUP your template first though. This more detailed post at hackosphere.blogspot.com served as my reference for this template edit. Thanks Ramani!

Favourite Artists of Warhammer 40,000 (IV) - Andrea Uderzo

Does Andrea Uderzo sound unfamiliar to you? How about the pencil drawing by Andrea for Codex : Witchhunters below? (Available as a wallpaper from Games Workshop UK here)© Andrea UderzoI didn't know Andrea Uderzo before chancing on the Dark Millenium card database a year ago (Recently just returned to the site and taking a closer look at the artwork. Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millenium Card Database
2007-03-09 03:17:00
Something for the Warhammer 40,000 fans to browse over this coming weekend :)A fan-made online card database created by Ondrej "ondrowan" Slinták & Andrzej "AWu" Wrobel for the Warhammer 40,000 based collectible card game Dark Millenium by Sabretooth Games. Cards from the Dark Millenium, Dawn of War, Hope's Twilight sets as well as promo cards are shown. The graphics are slightly fuzzy but are still detailed enough to appreciate the artwork on each card.Illustrators like Adrian Smith, Karl Kopinski, Paul Dainton and Alex Boyd still produce some of the best artwork used on the cards although there are some newer artists to look out for. Below are previews of some great card artwork taken from the online card database at dm.chaotit.com from some of the lesser known illustrators (at least to me).     © Sabertooth GamesClockwise from bottom left:001.
