Father & Son 2008-03-22 17:28:56 The song "Father
& Son" by Cat Stevens has become increasingly poignant and powerfully meaningful to me as I raise my three children. They continue to grow up faster than I want them to but what can you do about it? All I can do if try to be the best example I can be and shower them with all the love I can and share whatever wisdom I've got. Who knows how much of it will "stick" but we must try our best every day to prepare them for the real world out there. Gosh, the thought of them living on their own sends shivers down my spine. Someone once said, "Having a child is like living the rest of your life with your heart outside your body". So true. Here's the wonderful Cat Stevens performing his classic "Father & Son" some 35 years apart (approximately 1972 & 2007). Here are the lyrics. Note:
Here I Go Again 2008-03-30 23:25:32 WhiteSnake was one of the biggest big hair bands of the 1980sfor me . "Here I Go Again
" was their best work and their biggest hit as it reached number one in the country over 20 years ago in 1987! What people automatically think about when it comes to this song is the beautiful Tawny Kitaen girating across the hood of a sports car in the music video. Granted, I'm not complaining about that visual, not in the least! I just believe the song deserves more respect than that! It is a powerful song in many ways. I love the passion David Coverdale conveys in the song. The lyrics are very special because it deals with searching for one's self and the meaning of life itself. We all find ourselves in that position and I think this song will forever be extra meaningful for me because it came along du
Shine 2008-04-05 22:32:01 Salvador's "SHINE" is an inspirational song in so many ways. First and foremost it is a powerful song of praise for Christians. However, I believe this song can inspire anyone that hears it. The music, the voice and the words are uplifting and just so motivating. We all want to Shine
and do our best in life. We want to help others as the song illustrates so well.
Wear Sunscreen 2008-04-14 20:55:14 The 1999 song wear sunscreen by Baz Luhrmann was based on an essay written in 1997 by Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich called "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young". It quickly became popular as people circulated it via email and photocopies, an early example of viral marketing. Somehow the piece became falsely linked to Kurt Vonnegut and a commencement speech, but eventually the truth prevailed, thankfully. Mary Schmich released a book based on the essay and later a song and music video were produced (plus countless parodies, foreshading YouTube's bread and butter).I'd totally forgotten how wonderful and powerful this piece was until a friend of mine sent me the music video on my FaceBook wall. Talk about a surprise wake-up call. I fell in love with it all over agai Read more:Sunscreen
The Graduate 2008-04-20 23:46:56 One of my favorite movies of all-time is "The Graduate
" (1967) starring a young Dustin Hoffman. Everything about the movie worked perfectly together. The direction from Mike Nichols (Oscar winning), the acting, the coming of age theme, romantic twists and most of all the music! Simon and Garfunkel's haunting score was a wonderful part of this experience. All of the songs told stories themselves and complimented the scenes they were used in. Then there's the unforgettable and often cloned ending of the movie! No matter how many times you watch it, you are drawn into the emotion of the action. The music once again pulls you in and enhances the experience. By the final scene you are wiped out and thoroughly satisfied. Even though it's been over 40 years, The Graduate has stood

Lust for Life 2008-03-18 22:45:00 I’ve always loved Vincent van Gogh, but not just for the beautiful paintings he created. I’ve always been amazed by his life story and how he was able to create such wonderful works of art in the midst of such severe pain and torture. What a true inspiration he is to all of us.

Father of Mine 2008-03-17 20:58:00 “Father
of Mine” by EverClear is a special song for me because it truly hits home for me. I relate to the words so much because our father left our mom with four sons and I never really got to know him. The part that gets me the most is “I was just scared white [...]
Just a Dog 2008-03-15 14:57:00 Spike was a min-pin (miniature doberman pincher) that didn’t get the memo that he wasn’t a full-sized doberman. He got so sick at the end that I had to take him to the vet to put him down. Now I’m a big tough Italian man so I thought it wouldn’t be that tough so off [...]
Vienna Waits for You 2008-03-14 21:46:00 “13 Going on 30” is an underrated movie. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo were wonderfully delightful in this gem. She plays the 13-year old girl who becomes 30 overnight which is a silly over-done premise but the way they tell the story and the performances truly make this a joy to watch. What could’ve been [...] Read more:Vienna

Wazzup! 2008-03-08 18:52:00 Budweiser’s True commercial campaign was a hilarious and infectious marketing phenomenon! It was a prime example of viral marketing in its most powerful form. People loved it and couldn’t wait to share it with their friends and so on. It’s been many years but people old enough still remember the original series of commercials as [...]
It Could Happen To You 2008-05-01 21:22:19 I just love “It Could Happen To You” starring Nicholas Cage and one of my favorites, Bridget Fonda. It reminds me so much of a Frank Capra movie. Live Like You Were Dying 2008-04-30 21:00:38 Tim McGraw’s wonderful song “Live Like You Were Dying
” is a powerful reminder of how precious our time is in this life. It’s the perfect theme for this blog as well because it’s about living life to the fullest as if you knew you didn’t have much time left to live.
Everyone knows that this song [...]
Phenomenon 2008-05-06 21:12:11 One of the most underrated movies ever has to be “Phenomenon
” starring John Travolta. It is one of my all-time favorites. There are so many things that I love about this movie. The performances by everyone in the cast, especially Travolta and Forest Whitaker. Robert Duval was also amazing as the doctor.

Never Stop 2008-05-08 21:51:48 “Never Stop” by the Brand New Heavies has been one of my favorite songs ever since I first heard it. I think it’s one of the best summer feel good songs ever.
Perhaps it’s extra special to me because it came out during a special time in my life as well. In any event, it still [...]
Eros Era 2008-05-24 09:02:58 I was in Italy in 1985 when Eros Romanzzotti performed his classic “Una Storia Importante” at the annual San Remo festival. It’s a special song to me because it was the theme of my glorious summer in Italy that year.
I love how YouTube can span an artist’s entire career in seconds with a simple click. [...]
Bad Day 2008-05-23 19:09:35 Even though it’s been a few years since it was a hit, I still love “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter! It still turns even the worst of days into a better one because of all the fond memories it brings me. Another reason why the song’s extra special to me is because my youngest son also loved [...]
TRUST 2008-05-24 19:52:08 Hal Hartley’s”Trust” (1990) is one of my favorite movies ever. It’s unusual, like the director himself, so I know it’s not for everyone. It’s dark humor and full of quirky dialogue but I just love it all. The two leads Martin Donovan and the late Adrienne Shelley were perfect.
Sadly, you can’t even purchase the DVD [...]

Say What You Need To Say 2008-06-08 08:30:36 I love John Mayer’s “SAY” from “The Bucket List”. He wrote it after being moved to tears from reading the script. What a beautiful song and powerful message. We should all make a bucket list and say what we need to say while we still can in this wonderful life.
Here’s John talking about the inspiration [...]

I Got You Babe 2008-06-13 22:42:38 Here’s Sonny & Cher performing their signature song “I Got You babe” in 1965
Here they are again in 1987 performing the song again on the Late Show with David Letterman who forced Cher to do the song live with Sonny. Sadly, it would be the last time they’d ever perform together again as Sonny would [...]

G.I. Joe 2008-06-22 21:47:33 My brothers and I loved G.I. Joe! It wasn’t a doll for boys, but an action figure!
It’s amazing how popular it still is today. They’ve even re-issued the original G.I. Joe as a special collector’s edition.
My little brother has an impressive collection today of not only G.I. Joe, but many of the toys and games [...]
Scared Straight 2008-06-21 23:14:22 Scared Straight
(1980) Won the Academy Award for best documentary in 1980 as well as the Emmy Award. It was a landmark event for primetime television because it was the first time that obscenities were allowed on the air.
The concept was simple yet extremely powerful. They brought a group of juvenile delinquents to a state [...] Read more:Scared
