12-year-old "Magneto Man" breaks every computer he touches
2008-03-09 07:42:12
Confirming our belief that some people are just "bad with computers," a boy named Joe Falciatano III from Pulaski, New York, seems to have simply the worst luck ever -- and some think it could be do to an overly magnetized touch. While using PCs at this elementary school, Joe -- who dubbed himself "Magneto Man" -- found that every system he laid his hands on went totally haywire.Only after a teacher suggested he use a grounded, anti-static wrist strap did the systems experience relief from his Geek Squad-inducing grasp. Apparently, the boy has also disrupted slide show presentations and caused his Xbox to freeze repeatedly.Though tests have been run on Joe, there's still no conclusive evidence about the source of the problem, though at least one electricity expert said the cause could be h

Finance companies lead way with IP telephony
2008-03-08 06:27:19
The financial sector is a long way ahead of other industries when it comes to adopting Internet Protocol Telephony (IPT) technology.Nearly all (94 per cent) of finance companies have an IPT solution in place compared to the UK average of 80 per cent, according to a survey by the SAS Group. Finance companies are also eager to go forward with their communications strategies, with 69 per cent planning to implement unified communications (UC) in the near future."It is interesting to see that financial organisations are wise to the benefits of IPT, as they don't tend to be early adopters of technology," said Charles Davis, chief executive of the SAS Group.Although the financial sector was praised for their speed, worries were raised that 63 per cent were using internet-based Virtual Private Net

Asus EeePC 900 Launched at CeBIT
2008-03-08 06:27:01
For all the claustrophobic folks who can't use the Eee due to its size but would like to try to, perhaps the new Asus EeePC 900 launched at CeBIT this year would be a match. The Asus EeePC 900 widens the screen of the Eee to 8.9-inches. And without that thick, hideous screen margin, I must say, it's looking good. Aside from the larger screen, the Asus EeePC 900 also offers 12GB of storage which is a lot larger than the old Eee's, and a default 1GB memory. And yes, the Asus EeePC 900 will come preinstalled with Windows OS. It will first be available to select European countries for US$600, which is around twice the amount of the old Eee with basic specs. I surmise though, that this price tag will lower as time goes. Unfortunately, unlike what was reported, it doesn't seem as if the Asus Eee

Here are five secrets to taking great flower pictures.Tip 1: Lighting for Flower Pictures It can be tempting to wait for the brightest midday sun to take your flower pictures. That's actually one of the worst times because the powerful sunlight will wash out your image, and can create harsh shadows. Instead, take flower pictures when it's overcast, or in the morning, afternoon or evening when the sun isn't as bright and overpowering. This will result in more saturated colors in the blooms of the flowers.Tip 2: Level with the Flowers To get unique and beautiful flowe

2008-03-17 01:27:52
Wi-Fi networking range is like money, candy, and free time. You can never have too much of it. Getting more range out of your wireless networking gear can be a challenge, but it isn't impossible. Here are some pointers on how to extended your Wi-Fi range, hopefully letting you cover your entire house or office. * Upgrade to 802.11n - OK, it's not a free solution, but it's the best one there is. The new 802.11n gear (even though it has yet to be finalized by the standards body in charge of it) has dramatically better range, speed, and stability than 802.11b or g: After simply upgrading your router to an 802.11n model, you will likely find that your signal is stronger and more reliable in every room, plus you'll experience faster throughput all around (especially if your laptop has 802.11
