My son's first interview 2008-03-05 20:55:15 We are in the application process for a private Christian school. We had an interview
yesterday with the principal. She tested my son one-on-one for about 10 minutes. Well, it seemed that long! Nerve wracking for me and my husband. We think he did just fine. He was asked about letters, numbers, shapes, asked to follow directions (one, two and three step commands), body parts, and my favourite - asked to draw a picture of his family. I asked to keep that part! :) He missed chin, hips and jaw. Do other 4 year olds know where these are? I don't think so.We don't hear back from them until next week. Sigh. I had trouble sleeping last night. I need to relax. I guess the thing that worries me is that we don't have a backup plan.
Free magazine subscription 2008-03-01 13:45:31 I currently receive enough magazines and could probably eliminate a few, but here is a link to a free year of Focus on the Family magazine.
Listening to.... 2008-02-28 01:00:30 Sarah Groves' album Add to the Beauty. She has such a gorgeous, simple voice. I loved the song Something Changed from the movie The Ultimate Gift which I watched last week.I heard "You Are the Sun" tonight for the first time. It really touched me.Here are the lyrics. You are the sun shining down on everyoneLight of the world giving light to everything I seeBeauty so brilliant I can hardly take it inAnd everywhere you are is warmth and lightAnd I am the moon with no light of my ownStill you have made me to shineAnd as I glow in this cold dark nightI know I can't be a light unless I turn my face to youYou are the sun shining down on everyoneLight of the world giving light to everything I seeBeauty so brilliant I can hardly take it inAnd everywhere you are is warmth and lightAnd I am the moon Read more:Listening
"It looks like the Eiffel Tower" 2008-02-25 15:00:33 My youngest son is a real character. You can't turn your back on him for very long. He'll be up to something.Last night he was nakey after getting out of the bathtub. I was going to get him a diaper and he was in his room. He, of course, peed on the carpet. But the funny thing was what he said afterwards. He said "it looks like the eiffel tower." The pattern on the carpet that he made, that is. You need to know that I have a Paris-themed bathroom and he likes to count the Eiffel
towers. He is very refined and yet, not! Read more:Tower

What do you think of this? 2008-02-22 00:30:35 I heard a bizarre commercial on the radio tonight. Well, *I* thought it was strange, anyway. It was an OnStar commercial but not the usual ones where someone is in real danger or distress. You know, a medical emergency or maybe locking the keys in the car when there is a child inside. This one was about a father of the bride (or groom) who was at the church for the wedding and said that the justice of the peace didn't show up for the wedding. He really sounded upset. OnStar's operator actually found them a chaplain and she came to the rescue. Chaplain Debby. I even found her website where she mentions being in the commercial. Has OnStar become the new Yellow Pages? If you want a laugh, try out BlondStar. No offence to any of my blond friends. :) Read more:think

I'm displaying one on my sidebar. At Ramblings of a Crazy Woman's blog I found a whole bunch of ideas for activities and a craft using conversation heart. I'm not a fan of eating candy hearts but I think they are super cute. Read more:Conversation

Three movies watched and enjoyed 2008-02-01 20:22:18 My hubby and I watched Oceans Thirteen last night. I didn't have high expectations for this one since some critics panned it. We thought it was hilarious and a very fun watch. We loved many of the lines. Here is one funny scene:Rusty Ryan: Are you alright?Danny Ocean: (tearing up) Yeah, um, I just bit into a pepper.Rusty Ryan: Is that... are you... are you watching Oprah?I, of course, enjoyed the view. :)I watched Waitress earlier this week. It is both funny and sad. This review is a good summation. I especially enjoyed Andy Griffin's role.Paris Je T'Aime was another favourite (watched a few weeks ago) of mine. It is 18 vignettes about life in Paris with the theme of love. Some stories leave you scratching your head saying "Why was that included?" but I enjoyed it overall. Each story is di Read more:Three

I'm a proud mommy 2008-01-24 00:21:27 At my son's preschool they are doing a unit on safety. They want the children to learn their home phone numbers. They actually had homework last night! :) My husband worked with A on learning our number and he mastered it. Well, today he said it to his teacher and received a special certificate! He was one of only 2 children who received it (in a class of approx. 15). Way to go A!
One good thing about winter 2008-01-21 23:27:11 is that this is on TV.Northanger Abbey was tonight's Jane Austen adaptation on PBS. Fun 90 minutes of period drama! I might reread a few of my Austen books, especially the less familiar ones like NA.Next Sunday night is Mansfield Park. Austen fan - write it on your calendar! Read more:winter
Another day, another day without photos 2008-01-21 01:36:36 I REALLY want to show you some photos
from the last 2 months but I still don't have the necessary technology. I almost bought the required cable but then my DH found out that it is 20 dollars in the store and 5 dollars online. Make sense? I don't think so. So, I wait. Hubby is the sickest in the house. I'm on the mend. Some sinus pain. The boys are improving. Here's a funny YouTube on the "man cold." Here is an explanation of some of the references. Calling 999 = 911. Lem sip = NeoCitran (Canada) or TheraFlu (USA). Ceebeebees = kids TV.I'm excited about the new Veggie Tales movie. It comes to theatres on January 11th. I'm going to take my youngest and maybe my oldest if he changes his mind. It would be their first ever movie in a theatre.
Cool movie coming out 2008-01-18 00:34:33 I've never seen U2 in concert. It is one of my minor regrets. There is a 3D IMAX movie
coming to town on Jan 23rd. I'm thinking of going. The next best thing to going to a concert, I think. If I do go, it will probably be by myself. My hubby's not that into U2. Here's the website with details.Colette, want to go with me?

I wish I could have it at my wedding (almost 10 years ago). It is called "Lost in this Moment." There are two versions, one by Big & Rich and one by Keith Anderson. Both are good. Where's your mommy? 2008-01-06 00:24:28 That was the question for my 4 year old from the Immigration official as we were about to board the Victoria Clipper to return home to ensure we were his real parents. A glanced at the official for a moment quizzically and then looked at me and said "there's a booger in my nose. You need to get it out." She decided that was a question he wouldn't ask a kidnapper. He's comfortable with me.
Happy 2008 2008-01-02 23:56:21 Or is it? :)Mine hasn't started out very well. My littlest one was up with a fever on New Years Eve. My hubby and I spent it in the bathroom - no, we weren't sick but that was the only place to hang out in our hotel when both boys were finally asleep at 11:20 pm (too late to take my dad up on his offer to babysit). We didn't know when it was midnight since neither of us has a watch. We both read. He's reading Agent Zigzag and I was reading Atonement. I finished it today. Great book. Fabulous writing. We travelled on New Years Day on the Victoria Clipper. The seas were rough and I held A while my hubby held C. I don't think I've cuddled A for such a long time since he was a toddler. He was scared by the boat's movements. He also kept asking "are we in Seattle yet?" That dreaded question.C ha Read more:Happy

Libraries - no children allowed? 2008-03-14 23:45:38 Warning, this is an angry post. I had an upsetting incident at a library and I'm steaming. Here's the scene. We are in the children's section of the library (not our local one) and my 2 year old is exploring and chatting at a normal volume - believe me he wasn't being loud. I was tidying up some books my 2 year old had pulled out. My 4 year old is sitting a child-sized desk reading aloud from a book we had just checked out. We had been there less than 5 minutes. A "lady" in the adjacent section pops her head over the bookshelves (separating us from this anti-child fruitcake) and asks us to be quiet, we are "disturbing the computer users." Huh??????Is the library intended for computer use or for reading and promoting literacy? We were in the children's section and my son was reading! I wish Read more:Libraries
On the waiting list 2008-03-13 18:19:59 That is our answer for the school we applied to for the fall for kindergarten. I've been waiting all week for the call. It came during naptime so I missed actually talking to the registrar. We are "accepted but on the waiting list." So, good news and yet uncertain. We are going to phone back and find out where we are on the list. Last year we were on the wait list for preschool but we knew we were at position #1 so we weren't concerned. We don't have a back up plan so I'm not sure what we should do in the meantime.
